I came here to upkeep a Brazilian Blowout I had back in December. The sign up appointment procedure is a little elaborate and detail oriented, mostly done online or via text, but they do a lot of processes here and they want to make certain client know what to expect. I got a Glyco Strengthening treatment, where the hair is treated, dried, rinsed, and blow dried. The place is a hallway of smaller rooms, and one has to get in via a digital intercom system. There were rooms nearby with more people than I would have liked, but they were wearing masks. Rachel was in a room by herself being safe. She was professional, giving tips or advice only when I asked. The result was good, I really liked how my hair turned out. There was incense burning, which I usually like but seemed like a bit much with the hair products and utensil smells. read more

I had scheduled an appointment with Akina for a Huetiful Designer Cut. Exactly 30 minutes before my appointment, I received a voicemail from her informing me that my appointment was cancelled because I'd selected the "wrong service". Additionally, if I were to have corrected it, she still wouldn't have time to style my hair. She informed me that the cut is an "add-on" service, in addition to another style that needs to be selected. However - when checking the Huetiful website, it is UNCLEAR as to whether BOTH the "huetiful cut" and the "huetiful designer cut" are add-on services, due to the description under both services. Under "Huetiful Cut", it clearly states that it is an add-on service, which is why I didn't select it alone. Under "Huetiful Designer Cut", it does NOT state that it is an add-on service, which is why I selected it on its own. After having commuted 1 hour in the snow, you can imagine how disappointed I was. It was the lack of professionalism that appalled me the most. After inquiring why I received the call so late, she says that her manager didn't inform her of the appointment until later. I believe that it is still your responsibility as a stylist to keep track of your appointments. As a once-excited first-timer to this salon, I definitely won't be booking again. read more

I had an appointment on 6/7/2024 with Rachel Odem and the exiperence was very poor. Initially she asked me to reschedule my appointment an hour earlier to 3 instead of 4 and I was unable too. When I arrived at 4 she still wasn't even ready for me to sit in the chair and was talking on the phone. My appointment was for a silk press which is also supposed to come with a free trim. I told her I wanted a trim and she told me no. She stated in a nasty tone that "my hair hadn't grown that much since last time" and "did I understand what she said". My last cut was over 3 months ago in April so that statement was rude and false. I explained that my mother usually does my trims every 6 weeks, and maybe I do them more than the average customer but that is what I like and my preference. She then asked in a rude tone "is your mother a hair stylist?" At this point I just ignored her, I honestly started getting nervous that she would mess up my hair at this point since she was obviously aggravated. Finally she asked how I wanted it styled and she curled my hair horribly, they were going in all different directions and pin straight at the bottom. I asked her to fix the ends at least and she started going back and forth with me about where the part was. I finally just paid and left because I was over this interaction. I'm not asking for a refund but she really needs to work on her attitude with her customers. I had to go home and redo my hair myself, I left the building with my hood on. She also got the back of my shirt soaking wet because she didn't put the apron cape on correctly. She's not welcoming and there is no reason for the unnecessary comments. Huetiful is my go to salon! Ive been attending periodically since 2016 and since then I've been hooked. Now amongst all of the other amazing things they have to offer service and aesthetically (see my previous review on Yelp and Facebook), I am here to exalt Ms. Nina Christmas. From the moment she greeted me at the door there was instant connection. She educated me on the uniqueness of my hair and the advantages of my hair type. Im a nerd so I love learning new things (hook, line, sinker)! She encouraged me and we conversed like long time girlfriends. She gives a wealth of knowledge in such a concise manner (yes, she has depth), this is truly Hairapy! Long ago as Black women we confided in our beauticians about home life, our children, our jobs and spouses and just everyday stresses. In this new age where technology is meant to connect us, we disconnect ourselves and sometimes have no outlet. I am thankful that this gem is still alive in Ms. Nina, she knows how to allow you to let your hair down and release (pun intended), all while holding space and keeping the sacredness of sisterhood and our hair. I've been to the old and new locations about seven times and worked with the same stylist the last three times. I went in for a flexi rod set and left with a damaged scalp and bad hairdo. I was first surprised that my hair wasn't blow dried before installing the rods. She rinsed out the conditioner, applied a mousse, and went to work on sopping wet hair. My hair is 4c, so she should've known that it was going to dry in a shrunken state. I chose not to say anything because I felt I would've sounded ridiculous by using YT as my reference point. She then rolled the rods close enough to my scalp to develop immediate pain. The kind of tension you get from African hair braiders. Again, I chose not to say anything because I was thinking I only had to sit with it under the dryer for ~25 min and could handle the discomfort for that long. I ended up sitting under the dryer closer to 2 1/2 hours. After the first 30 min, my scalp was taut and on fire, my face and ears were red, and I was getting light-headed so I turned the heat down from 4 to 3 and asked another stylist to have mine come and look at me. When she came, I told her that it was too hot and she said "Well it's going to be hot - it's a dryer." I was later moved to a different dryer to accommodate another client and again had to turn the heat down. When she finally took out the rods, she asked me what I thought and all I could offer was "Ummm...." to which she responded "It'll get fuller over the next few days." In that situation, she should have separated the curls to look more like what I asked for and then given me guidance on how to do it myself. At the end of it all, I was there for five hours, paid $120 for service and tip, and $12 for parking because only the first three hours are validated. My scalp was burned in several areas and now has scabs. The curls in fact did not get fuller and were in a pony tail on day 3. This is the second time that I've gone in for a natural hairstyle and the second time that I left disappointed. Contrary to what they advertise, this salon does not specialize in natural hair. During my ordeal last week, one woman (type 4) got a flat twist out and there was no effort made to blend her sections, and another (type 3) got a hair cut and left with a head of frizz. It's an alright place to go, though, if you want your hair straightened. COVID-19: Everyone was properly wearing a mask. The sign in the salon door (not the building lobby) indicates that the last sanitation cleaning was in November. Chairs are not regularly cleaned between clients. read more

It'd been over two years since I'd been to a hair salon. Like a lot of natural women, I'd gotten used to doing my hair at home. I decided to try Huetiful and my experience was AMAZING! I'd just finished reading The Science of Black Hair and had learned a lot about my hair and why it works the way that it does. My stylist, Monique, proved to be very knowledgeable in that area! She explained everything that she was doing, why she was doing it, and how it would benefit my hair. She asked me questions about my natural journey and made it feel like I was getting my hair done by a life long friend. The steamer made my hair feel AMAZING and the nano smoothing treatment is nothing short of everything it promises! I got flat twists for my first visit, and a flat iron and trim for my second visit. This is the only salon I call home and I recommend it to everyone. They give you an exact start and end time and do a great job of getting you out of the salon in time. Rachel has been taking care of my hair for almost a year. Upon our first consultation we discussed my hair goals and she surpassed each and every one. My hair has never been so healthy. I had a relaxer for over 40 years she helped me transition without doing the "big chop." She also is a master colorist for natural hair and my color is fabulous. I highly recommend her. The women who washed my hair (can't recall her name) but it was her first day in the job and she was very sweet and knowledgeable about natural hair. RachelO is the hair stylist that did my hair and I would not recommend her. She can not color hair right she honestly doesn't know what she was doing. I come from a family of hair stylist and after talking to them they told me she basically played in my head. My hair was two completely different colors. I was very unsatisfied with my results she made my hair paprika after I told her I wanted a ginger she also made my roots very red. She charged me $220 i felt bad for her cuz she doesn't look like she gets a lot of clients so I gave her at 10$ tip but I honestly felt like she didn't deserve that. Please do not go to her if you are getting your hair dyed for the first time you will be very mad at your results. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Here's a before and after photo of a haircut I received from a senior stylist at the salon. All I will say is that I should have done more research as yelp makes it rather clear that this place does not do good work. I've gotten several devacuts before and never had an issue wearing it straight (as you can see in the before picture.) Owner- unprofessional and unwilling to acknowledge the facts, which are clearly shown in the photos. I won't be recommending anyone to this shop. read more

Wow, I'm surprised by all of the bad reviews :-( I have only been to Huetiful twice, but I have enjoyed my experiences both times. 1) My first experience was actually back in 2017, I wasn't living in Chicago at the time, but was home visiting for the holidays. I booked a last minute appointment and I remember they were really nice and accommodating. After the washing process, I requested my flat twist be left in and not taken down. I wore it like that for a couple of days. When I finally took the style down, my hair was so soft and moisturized! I loved it. 2) My second experience was this year, I had moved back home and I needed a severe trim. I'm ashamed to say, it was a long time since I'd had one. Ha. My stylist suggested a blow-out, this was also the first time since 2010 that I had my natural hair straightened. I have a "fear" of heat damage, but I took the plunge and trusted my stylist. She did cut quite a few inches off of my hair, but it was severely damaged. I was amazed with this blow-out y'all! It literally lasted for like 3 weeks! With only minimal touch-ups to the roots, during week two. When I finally washed my hair, my afro came back poppin! :-D I will never trust anyone else to do my blow-outs! The peace of mind, of no heat damage, is worth coming back to Huetiful alone - and the steaming process, of course! Lol. read more

Overall Review: Highly Recommend for Designer Cuts!!! Pre-Cut: I am a natural 4c and a little 4b at the top crown of my head and I had about 6-7 inches of natural hair all around. I booked with Crysten at the Chicago location for a custom cut and I wanted to remove a little more than 6 inches to get a sort of a pixie cut with a sponge brush. During the Cut: Crysten was extremely nice and professional and we began right on time. This is huge for me because I hate waiting past my scheduled appointment time. She really took the time to "feel" through my head and hair and asked a lot of questions for what I wanted. I brought in pictures from Pinterest of the overall desired look and she DELIVERED! Far better than my expectations, and it was her attention to detail that really nailed it. After the Cut: Afterward, she showed me how to maintain the style, how often I should come back for trims and what products to use. I am very pleased with the results and I am even thinking of color for next time. Overall the salon was clean and the staff was friendly. The manager Chavon is also a doll because she emailed me the night before to explain that my appointment had been booked with the wrong person for designer cuts. She corrected it and put me with Crysten who again delivered beyond expectations. I will definitely be back and will edit the review for color. read more

I've had my hair done here on several different occasions by multiple stylists and have always received excellent service until today. I made a same day appointment for a silk press and the stylist was supposed to be Sherri. Usually I try to book in advance but I just lost my mother last week and decided on the appointment last minute as a pick me up. I received an email confirming that my appointment was booked shortly after. I rushed to take down my previous style and detangle my hair in time for my appointment. I traveled across the city to the salon. Upon arrival, I informed the two present stylists of my name and who I had an appointment with. Sherri informs me that she's not sure why I was allowed to book because she's done for the day. There was no apology, no accommodation, no nothing. I asked if there was anyone else who could take me and I received a short "no." I cannot adequately express how disappointing, inconsiderate and inconvenient this was. Terrible customer service. Also, if appointments are not going to be honored, they should not be available on the website nor should they be confirmed after booking. read more

I knew two things when I walked into Huetiful, this evening. 1. I was going to be writing a review. 2. And it was either going to be good or bad. I'm writing this an hour after leaving the salon and unfortunately.. this review is bad. Which sucks bc my experience was wonderful. My hair.. not so much. Let me start off by saying that I straighten my hair, every blue moon. Last time it was straight was summer '14. I decided to get it straightened today bc it was in desperate need a trim and some TLC. I booked a last minute appointment and was happy to get in tonight. I arrived for my appointment.. got a very friendly stylist.. got a phenomenal service (silk press) and gave a very good tip. I spent a total of a $140 for my press, haircut and gratuity. My hair was a frizzball ten minutes after leaving. Mind you, it's late September. Chicago humidity has came and left. The humidity is not even near the reason my hair frizzed up. The stylist did not apply a sealant, antihumectant, drop of hairspray.. nothing. My hair should not go from bone straight to Anne Hathaway's pre-makover hair in "Princess Diaries". I can't even wrap my head around it. No pun intended. I ended up stopping by Walgreens on the way home and grabbing some John Frieda Frizz Ease serum and I'm going to run my blowdryer through it in the morning. I'm praying that it doesn't expand more between now and then. Taylor, I really like you and you are a pretty good stylist. But please add a sealant or finisher of some kind, next time you straighten someones hair. I'm very upset that I had to spend more money on a product to correct what I had just spent an arm and a leg on. My experience at Huetiful today was an example of great customer care. I had scheduled an appointment for my niece, who is in Chicago as maid-of-honor to her bff BUT my stylist needed to cancel due to an emergency. Instead of just leaving me hanging, my stylist (Monique, a Diva cut goddess) performed magic to schedule my niece with Nicole, who delivered an excellent blow-out and style on my niece's natural hair. BTW, my African-American niece has spent the past 3+ years in Hong Kong where natural hair care knowledge is very, very, very rare. Who am I kidding? Natural haircare knowledge doesn't exist in HK! Nicole used her skills to trim, treat, and style my niece's hair to maximize her healthy length. Nicole also encouraged my niece to contact her for advice during the wedding weekend and offered to continue contact after my niece returns to her overseas home. I've loved my Diva cut experiences with Monique for the past two years and with Nina for blowouts before that. My natural hair is healthy and beautiful. Today I realized that my good experiences might be about more than individual stylists. The Huetiful stylists are a great team and my niece and I have the gorgeous hair that proves it. This is a detailed review, so skip to the bottom to get my overall experience. Hope this helps someone. My stats - Natural for two years, transitioned from heat training, relaxer-free for over 6 years, length is APL, shrinks to my shoulders. I do my own hair 90% of the time and I straighten my hair about 2-3 times per year. Booking Appointment - you book online. It's super easy I give them a 4 for this. The only downside is selecting a stylist is a bit ambiguous - you have to decide based on the stylist bios. I selected Daria because I wanted a natural style and she is Deva (cut) certified. Quick tip, if you don't care about the stylist and you are just looking for an available appointment I would toggle thru all of the stylists'' calendars by hitting book to look at their available appointments and select your desired appointment slot that way. They also note that all appointments should take 90 minutes because they want this to be a timely experience. Daria texted and called me beforehand to ask me about my goals and expectations for the appointment. I really liked that. Location - it was hard to find because I was looking for a storefront and the addresses are not easy to read while driving. Daria sent me a pic of the shears that are outside the building. Look for a Greystone building and go up the stairs and it's on your right, you have to get buzzed in. It's Right next to the library. Bonus: Plenty of free parking! Service - I got the regular conditioning treatment with a trim. I was solely looking for a good trim. I felt Daria did a great job - I would give her a 4. She gave me a solid trim, walked me thru the trim and even shaped up my hair (a major plus) while she styled my hair she also gave me a tutorial on how to get a super defined wash and go. The downside was I was in the salon for over 3 hours and I only got a trim and a wash and go. I waited a lot of that time. I think I could have been done within 90 minutes, if it wasn't for the wait. I saw an email from the salon about wait time so I think they are working on this. Waiting is a deal breaker for me, but I'd give them a second chance. Overall Experience - booking the appointment was super easy and I liked how Daria, my stylist, called to talk about my goals and expectations (Just a trim and no more, lol!). She met my expectation with a great trim, shaped my hair and she even taught me how to get a super curl defined wash n' go. Downside is the long time in the salon and wait - I was in there for over 3 hours and a little less than half of that time was spent waiting. I highly recommend this place to newly naturals, I was checking out the other clients who were getting great twists and flat ironed styles. Huetiful's natural textured styling options, except for updos, are things I can do myself, but if you are trying to learn I say book it because they are really good and they will walk you thru the styling technique. That's if you care to know, lol! As far as existing naturals who do their own hair. I only see value in getting trims, a (Deva) cut to shape your hair. And also I think they safely get your hair straight without any damage. So this place was good, but it didn't knock my socks off. I used to have a very good experience at the salon, but over the years I've found the salon unsatisfactory. No matter what stylist I get, each time they are late and don't seem to care that they are late. Ive had hair burned on one occasion and the last visit I found them to be very rude. Despite having a mask on I was told to cover my mouth loudly in front of other patrons. I look to my right and someone took their mask off and nothing was said. I have had a lung condition for 23 years and I cough sometimes because of it. I get COVID has ppl on edge, but manners shouldn't be discarded. No one asked if I was okay or offered water, they just stared at me and made me feel very uncomfortable. Will not return. read more

So, I want to first start by saying that my overall experience here was awesome. The salon is gorgeous, the staff are friendly, and I was in and out in a decent amount of time. However, what baffles me is that I paid $105 for a flexi rod set that lasted all of a day and a half. How that is humanly possible is beyond me. I went to the salon on Friday, August 21st in preparation for my bday weekend. So as you can imagine I was saddened that I had to rod half of my own hair the following day because they had fallen--not just fallen, but the hair was bone straight. As a salon that boasts specializing in natural hair, I was sadly disappointed. And given the cost for the services, I will not take another chance for them to fail at a flexi rod set or anything else. This was my first time at Huetiful and I had high hopes because I thought they specialized in natural hair. I booked online by searching for someone who could do a designer cut. That's were I booked Sterling. He was very kind and nice. I asked him for an "out grown tapered cut" and showed him pictures from pintrest of the cut I wanted (I've had my hair cut the same way in FL). My hair was in a top knot when he preceded to cut my hair without washing or combing through, I asked him about shrinkage and he said it was a precut and he would cut again after shrinkage. After washing my hair he looked at the picture of the desired cut as he began to cut more hair. I received a twist in after the cut. I could tell my hair was very short because it was a struggle for flat twist. The next morning I twisted out my hair and it was very choppy, poor transition, uneven, patchy, and looked nothing like the picture. I desired a styled haircut but received a butchering. Of course I returned to Huetiful the next day and was told no managers were working except for Sterling so I left my contact info for the owner. I was called back shortly by Sterling, who remained nice (but I specifically asked not to speak to him). I told him the cut looked nothing like the inspiration and the cut I wanted was no longer an option due to how inconsistent and low my hair was. He offered to book me with another stylist to "correct" the cut or to void my transaction. I elected to void my transaction because I'm not sure that I can trust another Huetiful stylist. Honestly, Im not satisfied with that option either because it does not bring the hair back, it will be months or maybe a year to get my hair back to a decent length. I have posted pictures: one of my before, one of the desired cut (woman with the red hair), and after the cut. My recommendation is stylist should not be on the schedule for services that are not their specialty. Maybe Sterling is great at color but he butchered my hair. I'm not even sure where to go for a corrective cut and I'm still coming to terms with how bald I will be. I definitely feel traumatized by this experience. Today was my fourth visit to the salon. The salon itself is in an old grey stone building where they have converted the first floor into a salon. There is a cute waiting area, but so far I have not had to wait in it very long. Everyone is friendly and speaks to you, even though you are not their client. They have coffee, tea and wine, so that was a nice touch to have my stylist bring me a drink while doing the steam treatment and a stand to allow me to put my drink and IPad on instead of having to try and juggle everything. I have had two stylists and both were great. The shampooing was amazing...not sure what they were using as I was in the chill zone, but it felt like a brush of some kind massaging my scalp. The shampoo seemed to go on forever and I loved it. The steam treatment was not what I was expecting...it is actually cool on the head, but since I have been going to the salon, I have noticed that my hair is more hydrated. I love the fact that I can book my appointments online and cancel them online when the need arises as I don't want to try and get anyone on the phone. And I love the 15 min rule about not showing up on time for your appointment. My time is valuable and I don't want to be sitting in a chair all day to get my hair done. So far I have been out in under 1 hour 20 mins and looking great each time. I love that when I sit in the chair, it is my time and they stylist isn't trying to do 23 heads at the same time. Overall I am very happy with my experience there and will be going back. read more

I've had services with huetiful before but it seems as though the location has changed. I arrived for my scheduled appointment on Saturday and there was no way to enter the building. I called several times and left voicemails with no answer or reply back. I stood on the side wall talking to an intercom that no one listened to and got no response. Stood on the sidewalk trying to get the attention of other salons stylist yet no one ever came to the door. There are also no signs to specify that "Huetiful" is even located in the building. Other than the intercom name. I missed my appointment and I paid for parking. This experience was completely embarrassing and frustrating. There needs to be some sort of instructions on how to enter the establishment sent to the customer before they arrive. As a business I'm sure you're loosing customers because no one wants to be in this situation. I had to go home and do my own hair and create a new appointment. My new appointment is for today at 4pm and I've called all numbers and contact information I could get a hold of. I even called the number from my confirmation several times to get no response. I just want to receive information on how to get into the building before my appointment time. Yet again no one is answering and returning my calls. Or Facebook messages. At this point I'm extremely frustrated with the appointment process. I expect personal stylist to miss appointments and not be prepared for the customer. I think I've found "the" salon to help me care for my natural curls!!!! I've visited twice and had services completed by 3 stylists, both experiences have been wonderful.....great service, knowledgable stylists, and ON TIME!! They only have street parking, which can get tricky at certain times. Fortunately, I was able to grab a spot on both visits. My reasons for 4 stars is that their greystone isn't labeled well at all, so I had a hard time finding it the first time. It's in the same building as a coffee shop, but the coffee shop is the only business with signage out front. The next reason is that they don't have someone answering the phone. When you try to call, it just goes to voicemail sometimes and sometimes the phone just rings. There was some scheduling questions about my initial appointment with Nina and it was very annoying to have to play phone tag with the receptionist because whenever I returned her call I couldn't leave a message or speak with anyone. So, on to my experience once I was there. I've had a shampoo and blowout by Nina, devacut by Monique, and partial highlights by Raquel. ALL of these stylists were very friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable about hair care! Nina turned my shampooing session into an educational experience that I LOVED. She gave me a towel to dry my hands and let me "touch and feel" my hair at the different steps of shampooing. She also explained the ingredients of each shampoo and why she was using it. Nina explained that once you're a Huetiful client, you can see any stylist in the salon and it's not awkward. You can schedule online with any stylist that fits your schedule and services needed. This also allows you to get services done by the stylists that specialize in whatever service you need. So, although I loved my initial service with Nina, I had the devacut done by Monique and highlights by Raquel. Again, both of these ladies were very knowledgeable about hair care and what they were doing. All I can say is: AWESOME! Had the best, most professional experience ever. I've been natural since 2000. It's been long, it's been short, it's been healthy, it's been fried... Here lately, it's been fried. A big mop that I couldn't stand to comb, so it was time for a change. I'd heard very good things about Huetiful & for me they all turned out to be true. I'm baffled by the bad reviews. I was seen right on time by Brenda & got a pretty thorough hair "diagnosis" & told her what I wanted & then she got right to it giving me a precision cut. The ethos is all about the health of the hair & Brenda took great care of me & my head. My hair is very curly--4A & very fine. I loved my cut, deep condition & steam treatment. Brenda cut my hair dry & wet for the best precision cut. I thought I was going to get finger coils but I really only needed a wash & go and that's what I got. I have the cutest, curliest, most hydrated & healthy TWA (teeny weeny Afro) that I've had in years. Most of the things Brenda told me about how to care for it I already knew but I appreciated the reinforcement. I was in & out in about 2 hours. No fuss, no drama, reasonable price. Huetiful is redefining the Black salon experience & providing lots of professional options in particular for those of us with natural hair. Crying hot angry tears after wasting 3 hours of my morning. I understand that Covid-19 makes things challenging for all business. My family runs a business too. However, not keeping appointment books is a matter of professionalism. I was able to schedule two 8 AM appointments using the online scheduler, but both stylists cancelled them. The second was canceled just after I had traveled 25 minutes and was parking at 8AM. Look, if you can't make 8AM appointments as a stylist, DO NOT put it on your books! I was told to come back at 10 AM and as assistant would wash my hair. I arrive on time again. The woman I told this to expressed frustration (not at me, and she seemed liked a nice woman) and basically told me that my 3rd appointment wasn't real either. Looks like I'm on the search for a great salon again. Disappointed. Like everyone's, my time is PRECIOUS, and I can't patronize a business that doesn't take me seriously as a client. I really wanted to love this salon, but unfortunately it was a terrible experience. I left with white flaky residue all over my hair, especially on my hairline and my hair looking nothing like a tapered cut. The stylist had the nerve to tell me that they charge extra to unravel my curls. Like she finger curled my hair in medium section and wanted to send me home with wet, hug finger curls on my hair. I insisted on her drying and unraveling and I still ended up looking a mess. I do admit, other ladies at the salon who did a perm press did look good. I definitely won't recommend going there for any curly style. read more

Really enjoyed my experience with Patricia at Huetiful salon today. On time appointment in and out, well if you don't included sitting under the dryer for a little over two hours but well worth it. Loved the feel of the steamer but the chair was very uncomfortable. And I really wished they had a more visible sign out front. Very welcoming staff. They appear to really love doing a natural girl. I received services last Thursday 9/7/17 from Monique Clay. My appoint was for a Designer Cut. After speaking with her on the phone she suggest I get a Nano, which she described as a deep conditioning. I recieved a text 15 min before my appointment that she will be 15 min behind. Which didnt sit well with me taking the fact that I drove 45 min from Indiana and pride myself with not wasting anyones time by being on time. Usually Ill take that as a sign and turn around but because I drove from Indiana I decide to stay. She arrived, no apology for being late. Long story short, I was told 2 hr which I was there for 4 hrs. I just feel she ripped me off. Shes a very pushy salesman. Example (I dont think you need large twist, you should get med twist) I dont keep the twist up anyway I told her because I like my hair down. She insisted that med twist would look better. So I agreed. She charges separately for everything $175 for Nano, $45 for cut $20 extra for Med twist. After 4 hrs I left with my hair wet and not completely finished because it still needed to be taken down. She said the Nano would make my hair very soft, my hair is no softer for $175 I'm pissed. The only thing I like was the cut which is what I wanted from the beginning until she talked me into this Nano, which did nothing for me. So she talked me up from $45 to $200 plus dollars I'm very displeased, it was not worth it and will not be back. read more

::UPDATE:: After reading my Yelp review, Chanel Robinson, Salon Operations Manager, called to hear for herself exactly what happened during my service. After listening and asking thoughtful questions, she apologized for my service and admitted to overbooking my stylist and underestimating the time it would take for her to complete a service in time to give me the attention I paid for. We had a great and honest conversation in which I was able to listen to the salon side of the story but also to point out that there is no excuse for not checking on your client, particular one with a wet head sitting under a steamer. Chanel agreed and said that was likely a good coaching opportunity. Overall, I respect her tremendously for making the call and for the professionalism with which she conducted the call. And most respectably? She offered to comp services for my next visit, as well as that of my daughter, who she "noticed" had also visited for styling in the past! I was blown away. She made good on this promise even though it took us a month or two to make the time for the visits (at the time, my teenage daughter was wearing braids that wouldn't removed for a while). My daughter ended up choosing a stylist whose name I can't recall. She did Bantu knots that did not impress us in the least: the parts were crooked. I have wanted to update this post for quite a while though because I wanted to tell you all about the BOMB service I received from Ms. Marina Jackson as compensation for my unfortunate visit with Yonous. Marina was amazing. She did my blowout and silk press and left me in awe of her skills. She was very warm and friendly, and most importantly attentive and skillful. I had my hair blown out for the first time in 20 years of wearing my hair natural (14 of those years were in locs) and I can't compliment the service enough. My hair felt so soft and bouncy and the blowout lasted for over A MONTH. It was still straight and bouncy when I finally washed it out. 5 stars for Marina. She was an excellent stylist who made me feel so much better after that first visit. Highly recommend and greatly appreciate the professionalism with which Ms. Chanel resolved an upsetting situation. I should have written this update much sooner, but better late than never since I'm getting notifications that people are really reading this post a lot. Great salon and service, but I'm just leaving without any service after being there for more than an hour. My appointment was for 12:30, they took me in late and then asked to finish up another client. I told them that's fine. She said 25 minutes, I waited 40 and just told her that I don't have anymore time and left. It's sad because I had planned to go to a wedding with my hair done and all that is down the drain. Why do all of my favorite stylists keep leaving? I tried to book an appointment with Nicole Hargett and you still have her picture up but when I called because I couldn't book an appointment online, I was told she was no longer worked there. Quit trying to steal her clientele. Customers get comfortable with a stylist they like and trust with their hair and then they leave. You did the same thing with Lonyae Brown. They're both at Nubian Kinks now. read more
