This place is a regional chain diner. When you walk in the door it reeks of old grease and body odor of cooks and wait staff who smoke. The eggs, hash browns and breakfast meat come on a plate floating in grease. The hamburger was cooked till it was black and it came with hash browns because they were out of any other side on the menu. No fry's no chips no fried potatoes. We haven't returned since that visit and we live 2 miles from the Huddle house. The staff stand around and pick and choose when they will work or start taking your order or cooking it. Nothing was clean. I sat on something sticky and the table needed a good cleaning. I'm not sure why the health department hasn't ever checked this place out. I think it should be closed till it is cleaned and the staff is aware of food handling regulations. read more

A beacon in the night, an angelic symphony to our grumbling stomachs, Huddle House was a real life saver tonight. Their staff was so friendly, and they welcomed us in as if we were old friends and talked with us throughout our meal. The food was utterly amazing, I cannot give it enough praise. We went last night to Huddle House in Roanoke Alabama. My wife, granddaughter and me sat down in a booth. It was about 6:00 in the afternoon. We took out the menus to look over expecting the waitress to come over. She went to several tables but seemed to not notice us at all. Usually we are greeted right away. After about 5 minutes of waiting my wife said I'm ready to go. We got up and left. No one spoke to us at all. As I was getting in the car I say another waitress entering after she had finished her smoke. Maybe that was my waitress. I guess I will never know. Huddle House you need to get your act together at this location. I enjoy your food if I can get service. read more

This place is filthy. Try to look out of the windows, go ahead, just try. The floors are dirty, the windows are dirty, their equipment is dirty. We sat down, the server Pam acknowledged us and then went off and started washing dishes. Who does that? She finally came back, wiped down the nasty table and walked away again. The syrup bottle had so much dried up mung stuck all over the mouth that the person with us who ordered the waffle couldn't bring herself to use it. My hashbrowns came out burnt, my omelet came out burnt. What nasty grill did you cook my eggs on where there would be black char on my omelet? My bacon in the omelet was black and burnt. Twenty miles down the road I was looking for gum or mint because I still had the burnt taste in my mouth from the awful food. Did I mention the windows? Stopped in for breakfast on my way through to Eufaula from Anniston. Ordered a Smokehouse Platter that has 3 eggs (ordered scrambled and asked for them to add cheese, "no problem" with a smile was the response). Also has 3 bacon strips, 2 sausage patties, hash browns and toast. (Comes with grits but I did not have them serve). You can sub toast and grist for a biscuit and gravy if so inclined. Eggs were done perfectly! Everything else was great! Wait staff was nice and friendly. When I asked for a refill on my milk, she reminded me that there was not a refill policy on milk and that I had to get another. I knew this. She was visibly relieved and said that some people get so mad because no refills on milk. I said to her would those same people go to a bar and order a beer and expect a free refill? We both laughed. walked in sat down they were not busy at all. Had to clean my own table that was not a problem. Ordered our drinks and food my food was right my husbands on the other hand he ordered the mushroom Swiss with hash browns all the way he only got his hash brown's. There were 2 cooks Pat was one of them she was outside smoking she DID NOT wash her hands after her cigarette and DID NOT have her gloves on put my husbands burger on last he didn't get it with his order and it wasn't even cooked right. Hanna and Pam were very pleasant Hanna kept my coffee filled, Mrs. Pam spoke to us and was also pleasant the other cook was nice and welcomed us in. Pat needs to start washing her hands and wearing gloves when she decides to go outside for a cigarette. read more

I eat at this restaurant a good bit, considering I live a mile outside of Roanoke. It's the only restaurant in town that still allows smoking inside and I smoke so that's a plus for me. Maybe not so much for you. There is a section for smokers and one for non smokers but it's not like it's separate rooms or anything. The food here is usually pretty good, and the service is usually good, as well. It's open 24/7 so it's great for those late nights/early early mornings when you are wide awake and hungry but don't want to cook. I went in tonight with just my PJs on and was treated with nothing but respect. :) I have no shame. Lol I would recommend this Huddle House to anyone who's looking for a good meal and friendly service any time of day or night. read more
