Weeks in advance, reservations were made for six persons at 4:30 p.m. in the main dining room. When I arrived, I was shown to a table in a small room adjacent to the service area; nevertheless, the table was too close to a naked wall for my visitor to gaze at throughout supper. "Well, if you want to wait, I can seat a table in the main dining hall at a much smaller table," the hostess said after asking. There goes the first item. I had boasted to my guest about how the restaurant was decorated. Then came the seating. No server, no server. Finally, STOPPED two of the many servers rushing past just to ask for water. The first server told us it was not her area. The second server rushed through, saying, "Yes, I will get you drinks." We asked if wine or cocktails were available; the response was that she would need to get an "adult to help." No adult ever came to help. No information/greeting of any type to welcome or on how to proceed with getting the food. Now for the $40 food. The appetizer of boiled shrimp tasted mushy, as it had just been poured from a container of water. Buffet: Did not know it would be an almost attempt at a country-type food buffet. Failed at that attempt, and not what would be expected from a fine dining restaurant. Black-eyed peas tasted like they had just been poured from a can, with no flavor. Dressing and mashed potatoes were good, and BBQ ribs were good. The ham had a large bone and gristle, the turkey was thick but dry, and the grease was starchy and had no flavor. The dessert was good, but we did not believe it was made at the restaurant; we ate some from Costco, and it tasted and looked the same. Very rushed and chaotic atmosphere. Staff running past 5-foot aisle along the back of our table and not once looking our way, without us waving them down to help. Used plates on the table were picked up much faster at other buffet restaurants. Maybe just a bad day for their business, but the customers paid for the fiasco. Not sure we will return; it was very disappointing and embarrassing for me to have guided my guest to the restaurant. Made me look and feel embarrassed. Do not believe this is the fine dining restaurant the Mashburns had intended. Classic on Noble Street in Anniston, Alabama, is closing permanently at the end of 2025 after 30 years in business. We ate here for the Sunday brunch. The food on the hotline was cold. We waited 15 minutes for them to come pick up our tab, and we had to ask twice. Additionally, if you prefer vegetarian options, this is not the place for you. There is ham in every single bean or vegetable option on the hot line. I couldn't wait to get to those creamy and full of flavor Shrimp and Grits!.. the Seafood selections were plentiful and fresh, the entrees were flavorful and a large selection to choose from. Service here sucks and is very rude. My daughter and I called and made a reservation for dinner, upon arrival we were literally the 2nd table to be seated. When I asked if we could be seated by the windows the hostess stated "we already have reservations there". So we had a salad and I had an old fashioned that was maybe a one ounce pour. Wanted to try dinner but they really pissed me off. When we left guess what? Both tables by the window were still empty. We come to Anniston often and I can tell you we will NEVER come back. Such a lovely space. I'm not big on buffets but this isn't your typical buffet. We were there on a Sunday after church and pleasantly surprised with the buffet. The shrimp & grits were delicious. There was a grazing table with everything from spinach dip to charcuterie to Frog legs. Meat choices were Ham, Turkey and Roast Beef from a carving board and southern style veggies. We came here last week and this is a place that ordinary would be on your radar because of its location. But after you come , it will be in your rotation. It's in a beautiful historic building in downtown Oxford, AL. The decor and atmosphere is truly amazing. Reservations are a must but strangely, we came on a night that we had the entire upstairs to ourselves!!!! The restaurant is filled with beautiful art and the most comfortable chairs. We started off with a Caesar salad and the fried green tomato salad. Oh I forgot to say that everything on any of your plates will be homemade. The salads were fresh and filled with so many different flavors that I can't describe. The entrees were ahi tuna and salmon. The tuna came with a calamari salad and the bomb fried rice. The salmon had a Yukon and sweet potato dish that I wish I would have had an extra side of. Both dishes were perfect and you can tell they take pride in putting out a great product. Last but definitely not least was the bread pudding. I thank God for the lady that made this because it was the best that I've ever had in a restaurant anywhere!!!!! I'm a BIG foodie..so whenever I'm in a different City or State I make it a point to do thorough research on the best places to eat in that city. While visiting Anniston, AL I came across a list of places to eat and Classic on Noble came up as a definite must try. The Shrimp & Grits in particular was on a separate list as "100 dishes to eat in Alabama before you die" let me tell y'all they weren't lying! I mean it is 1 of the best dishes I've had in my life. Word to the wise: I came here during the holiday season & trust me when I tell you, if you try to come for dinner you WON'T get in! Was with a large group (over 20) for lunch. Service was very good. We had one waitress, who had a little help. She did a yeoman's job. Very patient and helpful. The food was excellent. I had the gumbo as an appetizer (some of the best gumbo I've ever had, and I lived in Louisiana!) and the Reuben sandwich, which was also very good. My wife had the salmon, which she enjoyed very much. Restaurant was very nice. It gave us a good place to dine and visit. I hope we have an opportunity to return. read more

We were passing through Anniston and decided to stop here and eat. Let me tell you - this is a destination place! Food was terrific and service was great! We had the fried green tomato appetizer, crab cake appetizer and dill chicken salad. All the food was good, but that fried green tomato salad was over the top. My husband and I split it and it was a meal in and of itself. And quite possibly one of the best meals we've had in a very long time! If you haven't tried this place, I highly recommend it. I think the only thing that could make it better was if they served a non-alcoholic beer, but that's just a personal preference. :) We will be back! read more

Traveled from CT to AL for Mother's Day. First time I've seen my mother in 18 months, thanks to Covid. Anyway, took her to Classic on Noble for Mother's Day "brunch"at 11 am. It was packed. No social distancing. People were seated at tables right next to other people. I'm not kidding. It was insane. Maybe a spreader event. Who knows? Back to "brunch." It was not really a brunch. It was lunch plus some omelets made to order and a few unidentifiable items near the omelette station. Nothing was labeled. Who could possibly know what the "brunch" items were, except someone who worked there? Same story on the lunch though. Tons of chaffing dishes filled with tepid items that we could not identify. We weren't the only ones looking for some identifying labels. A dude I didn't know asked me what something was. I told him I had no idea. The food items we sampled were lukewarm in temperature--not my favorite way to eat. Food poisoning risk, you know? And they weren't good. We each had about a half a plate and left disgusted, disappointed, and hangry. Yes, hangry. Not a typo. Back to our this-meal-was-not-a-brunch assessment. There was no offer of a mimosa, wine, or other spirits. Maybe local liquor laws? Maybe under-trained staff? We have goofy liquor laws in CT, so maybe they don't allow alcohol at 11 am in AL. It was very odd for "brunch" and never explained. The place was very pretty, but there was a cacophony like you've never heard. A loud piano, loud people, an overfilled facility, and only hard surfaces -- nothing to dampen sound -- made it impossible for my mother and me to talk over the roar. All this noise and a packed facility alone, in the time of Covid, made this "brunch" a hot mess. By now you know we were both underwhwelmed by the under-seasoned mystery food items we got; but, then the bill came,which I requested 20 minutes into our "fine-dining experience." Most expensive meal I ever hated $70+. I've eaten some bad meals at cheap prices and a lot of fantastic meals at exorbitantly priced places in the United States and several foreign countries. This was the pluperfect expensive disappointment. I wrote pluperfect because there might be one more in my future; but, it won't be at this establishment. My only memory of Classic on Noble is one where I was but a child. I was around eight or nine years old, and my parents were dangerously close to becoming divorced. So we went to Classic on Noble, of course, to mend this. The chocolate fountain almost did it, but no such luck. Mom and Dad still ended up splitting up three harrowing years later. In the back of my mind, I can still hear that underpaid pianist playing that classic little tune in the undertones of the whirring of the fondue machine, forever calming me and keeping me at peace with the world and it's constant offenses. read more

The hospitality is unlike any place I've ever experienced! The server was attentive, knowledgeable, and so kind. The owner stopped by the table and told us the history of the building. My boyfriend, who is a history teacher, was absolutely in love with the history lesson and the food. The best customer service and hospitality I've ever experienced! My grandmother, mother and I arrived to Anniston, AL around 2pm on a Saturday to shop and enjoy our time when we searched and came upon Classic on Noble. We were saddened that it opened at 5:00pm on Saturday, but it was definitely worth the wait. When we arrived, we were greeted by David (the owner) and he gave us such a warm welcome and asked if we were from the area and what bought us to the area. Very seldomly now a days do you receive such hospitality and delicious food which was a plus. But let's get to the DRINKS + FOOD! The best part... the spiced-carr is the best drink on the menu! It's strong but not overbearing and hits the spot! We had ordered the oysters for our appetizer; however before that even came out we were surprised by David bringing us a beautiful and oh so delicious appetizer... that's not even on the MENU he created it himself! For our meals, we ordered the fish of the day, which was the sea bass with a lemon sauce and rice and asparagus, filet with mushrooms, onions and potatoes and the shrimp and grits. NO COMPLAINTS! We even ordered the white chocolate bread pudding which I'm so glad we did even though we were all soooo full! It was to die for! It was perfectly warm on the inside, nice sponge cake with a delicious sauce. Just Yummmm! I will definitely be returning to Anniston and referring everyone to Classic on Noble who decides to come this way or pass through Anniston! Ordered the wedge salad and shrimp and grits. Wedge salad was ok, the blue cheese dressing that came with it was totally unremarkable and tasted like a cheap food service product. Shrimp and grits were good, but a very heavy dish. It is served with a cheese cream sauce with parmesan cheese shavings on top. That combination made the dish both heavy and very salty. We were traveling from Birmingham to Marietta and searched for a place to stop for lunch on the trip where we would find some local charm and great food. The pros; very nice people here from the owners to all the servers, beautiful ambience with classic touches like lovely glassware, linen tablecloths and ice tea spoons for goodness sake! Decorated for Christmas it looks lovely. Lunch prices are pretty steep but ok if top shelf food. The shrimp and grits were good but so rich that I couldn't even eat half a portion. The "crispy" chicken entree wasn't crispy at all and needs a major update - it was a basic breadcrumb baked chicken recipe from any cookbook, very disappointing. The biggest disappointment was the slow service (with a smile though!). It wasn't too crowded but we waited almost 45 minutes for our food. The entire lunch took almost 2 hours. Still, we tipped 20% because many apologies were extended and it's a tough season for everyone - but especially people in the restaurant business. read more

Thanksgiving a week early -- in traveling from Dallas to Hilton Head a week before the actual Thanksgiving day, we decided to bed down in a nearby city. Thankfully, we found this incredible restaurant. Every aspect of the experience was outstanding. Food -- fantastic. Wines -- excellent. Mixed drink -- perfectly made. Appetizer -- delicious. Food -- bigest pork chop ever and made to a tee, salmon dish was mouth watering. Dessert was fabulous. Decorations -- what a festive environment. Had a nice lunch with a few friends and while the pace seemed to be slow it was pretty good overall. I went with the intentions of trying the Reuben (having already tried the wonderful shrimp and grits). My plans were quickly foiled as they ran out of corned beef. They offered a turkey version, but I wasn't sold on the turkey and sauerkraut combination. Went with the chicken, mac and cheese, greens and cornbread. The greens worried me as I didn't see pepper sauce, but they were nicely seasoned and paired perfectly with the rich mac and cheese. The cornbread was fine crumb and a little sweet. The chicken, where to begin... oven baked so it's healthier than ninety percent of the chicken I eat, but I didn't pick up any seasoning. In fact, I was pairing the greens with the chicken to give it a touch more kick. Beautiful dining room, slightly bland chicken. Overall, will return and hopefully try that Reuben. read more

I ordered the Sea Bass dish and substituted the bacon brussell sprouts with asparagus. The fish was bland and I used my lemon from my cocktail to add some zest/boom/pow. The mushroom couscous was the best part of the dish. The drinks were decent and the desert (fried cheesecake) was cute but nothing special. A MUST VISIT!!! This place is an absolute gem!!!! I flew in for the week from California for training. I am an absolute foodie and every single item my colleagues and I ordered were impeccable. Who would have known!! The ambiance, food, and service is off the charts!! Our shared dining experience consisted of: Appetizers: fried oysters, shrimp cocktail, fried green tomato salad and corn chowder. Entrees: ahi tuna, shrimp and grits, mushroom risotto with sea bass, and crab cakes. Dessert: fried cheesecake and bread pudding. Of all things, DO NOT skip dessert!!
