The Shack is Boss. Great Barbecue and lots of it. They have that smoker going every day. Dot's potato salad is wonderful. All sides great. Also hamburgers, chicken, and hot dogs. Large portions. Service is prompt and correct. Eat in or take out. It is how they live and what they do. I must confess I Iive in the area and have eaten there for years. Check them out. read more

We order Shack all the time. All our rela tives want it when they come to lake. Could not as for better. read more

Had the 2 meat plate. Very mediocre. Sides were clearly out of a bag/can for a $17 price tag for the meal. Value wasn't there for the quality unfortunately. Seems like this place has potential. read more

This restaurant has been well established for numerous years . I always order the Bbq salad , and it's enough for 2 meals for me. Meat is freshly chopped, properly cooked and plenty of it. Many restaurants are not consistent, have cut portions and raised prices. You get exactly what you've always gotten in the past . A modest little place, ran by country folk that has contributed to the reputation this little landmark has. All locals know this place by name. read more

Off the beaten path but we'll worth it. Only place in town open on Monday evening that's not fast food . Tender flavorful meat, good beans, coleslaw and potato salad. I highly recommend. Pork is their specialty.... So menu is limited no bbq chicken or beef but hamburgers, hotdogs and fried chicken fingers read more

Down home bbq joint. Doesn't look like much, but those are the good ones in my opinion. Service was typical southern hospitality. Great place! We visited on race weekend and they sold out of ribs. Chopped pork plate was excellent. Their sauces didn't disappoint either. read more

The food was very dry and the environment in-side is terrible it smelled like cow manure and when the cook came out to give me my food he dropped my food on the ground I get i'm black and we live in Alabama but this is not professional I tried to get my food and the cook said "That's how it need's to be" So then I just left I will never going back that's why I rated it 1 star hope you understand and sorry for any inconvenience Sincerly, Christopher A read more

We had the family to-go pack and it was great. I really enjoyed the potato salad. It does have onions which I know some don't prefer. The pulled pork was great as well as the sauce. The restaurant is made out of railroad ties so that was neat! Would eat head again. The lady on the phone was nice when she took our order and it was ready when they said it would be. read more

Great BBQ always fresh, never frozen. Building is rustic, but the food is number one.

The food is always fresh and has a great taste. Just wish they had more sides to choose from.

this is one of the best bbq places in Alabama. ranks with Bob Sykes in Bessemer, Archie's in Hoover and Hooks in Opp and Troy.

Worst barbecue we've ever eaten. Greasy- very tomato based sauce. Lots of fat in meat. Onion rings ok but very greasy.

Food was delicious and service was fast and friendly. Bbq was great including the sauce. Potato salad was incredible. Even the tea was addictive. Highly recommend! read more

This spot deserves another mention. BBQ sandwich plate with baked beans and onion rings was on point. Young lady taking call for carry out was sweet as could be. Four stars only because the lady at the register was not friendly. And in the South, we do friendly with our barbecue. The Shack is a little off the beaten path but you must check it out. read more

I wasn't impressed. I've come over here a few times. The last time I went I had a bbq sandwich. The meat was fatty and the sauce wasn't sweet. I wish this place got a higher rating from me. I would rather go to fat man's in Cropwell. This place is close to us but it needs a revamp for sure! read more

For locals it's known as the Shack created by the Hann Family. Has been going for a long time. The folks are just the best around. They get the order bring it out and hold on to your hats. Just good eats! Been all over this state and other establishments as far as Baltimore and no one can out do the Shack BBQ! The best all around. Prefer the lg. BBQ mild inside chopped. Sweet tea and fried onion rings. Or a Lg. BBQ salad. Soooo good. Not related to them just been eating there for as long as they have been open. Rich heritage and laid back atmosphere! Worth the drive. read more

Went tonight with my husband, everything was delicious! Had the BBQ meat (chopped pork), five pork ribs, side of delicious sweet baked beans, coleslaw, dinner roll, two drinks and a piece of pecan pie all for under $25. Meat was smoky, tender, and the perfect amount of fatty. Loved all three BBQ sauces; sweet, mild, spicy. Wish we could come back! read more

The food quality has always been enjoyable. Seating is limited and is crowded at times. The atmosphere is dark and dismal. The creosote treatment to the exposed wood has a lot of "off gases" that are obnoxious after a while. The owner and staff are generally very welcoming and accommodating. read more

My husband brought food home today and OMG! What happened to the Shack we used to love? I didn't get a chance to taste the slaw because my husband spit his first bite out and said it was ruined! He will eat anything. The BBQ sandwich meat was not good. The sauce tasted like it had been cut with ketchup. Very tomato taste. He had ribs and they were good. Fries were good. They always had great sweet tea. Now that was even off. I just don't know what to think. Did they sell? New owners? I do not recommend! read more

As I was out running an errand to Pell City, I found this intriguing BBQ place known as The Shack. If you see the pics, it is described very accurately. Now the place might look kind of like a joke, but there is pretty good BBQ inside. My sweet tea was homemade and freshly brewed. I went with the rib and meat plate...no brisket here just pork...with beans and potato salad. One word I would not use to describe the ribs is tender. They took some work to gnaw on but wasn't bad. The pork was better. The ribs and pork were smoky and chewy. Didn't seem like there was any unique seasoning to them. The BBQ sauces went really well with the meat. You had mild, sweet, and hot...all ketchup - base and all were very similar to Sonny's BBQ sauces. Beans had meat mixed in and that always adds a little something extra to them. Potato salad was homemade, nice blend of mustard and miracle whip, and no overpowering taste of relish or celery. I got peanut butter pie to go but I need milk to eat it. I was pleased with the Shack...the only complaint I have is that the BBQ be a little more easy on the jaw. read more

First of all you do not go the shack and order a hamburger!! YOU GO THERE FOR THE PORK. OMG THE BEST RIBS AND OUTSIDE SLICED I HAVE EVER HAD AND I AM FULL BLOWN PIG EATER!!!! Ran across this place with my mother who lives in Pell City. These ribs are smoked and juicy and when I come back to visit for 4th of July I will order slabs to go and say I made them LOL . I bet you have to pre-order and I will. Terminator this restaurant "I'll be back" read more

Impressive. Found this place by chance for our part of 8. Between us we had everything. The favorites were the pulled pork and potato salad and the sweet BBQ sauce. Prices are amazing! The only item that was meh was the coleslaw lot of mayo but just no flavor. Service was also great! I would go again! Oh and of course the sweet tea was yummy! read more

Mini throw up in my mouth. Worst sauce I have ever tried and side items were very bland. Meat was chunks of fat pretty much. Would never eat there again! read more

This is what everyone should be eating. I take all of my out of state friends to the shack, always get the same wow reaction.I'm very proud to claim this as alabama bbq. I usually get a pulled pork or the shack stack. read more

We grabbed some take-out from The Shack since it's only a couple of minutes from the condo we stayed at. It was also a recommendation from a local. Great little find! The BBQ is the real deal. Nice ring, with good flavor but not overly smoky or dried out. Sauce was sweet and mild so it was a hit with our group. We had several people to feed so we got a whole shoulder, which they sliced for us (made it a whole lot easier to eat on a sandwich). Potato salad was great had a hint of mustard but not overpowering and it still had good chunks of potato. Baked beans had small pieces of meat in them and were delicious too. Very reasonably priced too! The same quantity of food in the North would have easily been double the cost!!! Will be one of our "must have's" on our next trip to the area. read more

Love the Shack...gotta visit every time I'm in Talledega. Great food and great atmosphere. Check out the shack and tell your friends!

The ribs are awesome, the sauce is REALLY GOOD. I'm not fond of the potato salad, but the onion rings? YUM! Try the BBQ Salad, it will hit the spot! While you're waiting on your order (not very long at all) look around at the old stuff on the wall. It's old timey. The customer service is okay, they're not rude, just too busy to put on a fake smile and chat. I think they cook other food too, but I've just not tried it! read more
