Charred Oak offers a wide selection of quality beer, wine, and liquor, the latter for especially when you don't want to drive over to the ABC Store from the area, or for when it's a pesky Sunday. The store didn't have a particular brand of wine that was the object of a hunt, but the guy suggested Publix, and he was right on. The liquor prices are higher than what you'd find at the ABC Store, but you can leave knowing you've supported a local business which is always a warm feeling. And he's cool with folks just browsing!

She is basically a librarian of beverages. Her knowledge runs deep and she genuinely knows the story, flavor profile, and use for just about every bottle in the shop. Conversations here feel natural and educational, not salesy. A quick heads up for anyone not from Alabama, the state government makes things messy when it comes to alcohol taxes and pricing. That is not on Lenell. She clearly does her best to keep prices reasonable, but the regulations and taxes make it challenging. Knowing that, the value is still there when you look at the quality and uniqueness of the selection. And the selection is what really stands out. It is curated, thoughtful, and downright impressive. I was able to pick up several bottles I have never seen before anywhere else. This is not a grab a bottle and leave type of store. This is a browse, ask questions, discover something new kind of place. If you enjoy unique spirits, interesting bottles, and talking to someone who truly knows their craft, Lenell's is absolutely worth the visit. I am really glad I stopped in and would not hesitate to come back next time I am in Birmingham.
