We plan our trip to GA around a dinner at Dave's. Great people and best food between New Orleans and Atlanta. Seafood is always fresh and perfectly prepared. Much of the produce comes from Dave's farm. I had heirloom tomatoes when I stopped there in August. The kitchen is open to the public and there is kitchen bar seating available. Shrimp and grits, Redfish, and any steak. Steaks are Hickory grilled INSIDE the building. You watch it cooked. Who does that??? Chef Dave does. read more

Excellent experience at Garfrericks Cafe. The customer service and food were world class. I met the owner, Dave, who was very friendly. Granted, I dined with a friend who knew the owner, servers, and chefs, so the hospitality could have been because of the familiarity, however it was impressive to see the customer service capability. I believe this place delivers this level of customer service consistently. The food, presentation, and quality were very good. I dined at the chef's table and within proximity to the food prep, cooking, and plating. It was impressive to see the chef's attention to detail and technique. I appreciate the simplicity of the menu and great execution on the cook. I also appreciate their willingness to divide tomato salad among my party so that each person could sample the dish. We were traveling through and stopped for dinner with our kids. Food was good, service was good.

All I can say is ..... WOW! From the time we set foot in this strip mall area (almost missed sign on building-) , to being seated promptly and greeted by several waiter/waitress. This was a great experience! Our waitress Ryleigh was very polite and knowledgeable about menu & specials as well as good recommendations. We both ordered Hickory smoked filets mignon, with delicious garlic smashed potatoes and broccolini. All was delicious, even baget with real butter! And the blueberry cheesecake... ahhh yeah! Funny thing is this restaurant was Highland recommended by the competition who was completely booked tonight! ... If it weren't for Yelp, we would've never found this place. The outside is neat and clean with string lights, but very unassuming. There is also no sign big enough to see from the parking lot. The inside is clean and airy. We sat at the bar so that we could watch the chefs prepare the food. Everybody was friendly, with multiple staff checking on us. We enjoyed the crabcake, beet salad, a pasta with shrimp dish, and a halibut special with risotto. For dessert, the crème brûlée and a coffee with Baileys. We had a lovely chat with Dave, the owner. Lovely spot for farm-to-table food tucked away in a small town. The food is fresh as advertised, and they have many seafood options. We started with some fantastic crafted cocktails and roasted garlic and Parmesan oysters. In between our appetizers and entree, our server gave us each a palette cleanser they make in-house, composed of celery, apple, and ginger. That was a very unique and excellent addition to our meal. We sat at the bar directly in front of the kitchen, where we could see the chefs and staff in action. We were more than satisfied with our meals. I got the scallops over creamed corn with roasted veggies, and my husband got the halibut. Our food wasn't over-sauced or too rich and was just incredibly fresh and filling. We were eyeing the bread pudding with white chocolate for dessert but had no room. Absolutely stunning restaurant and great food! I was impressed with their wine list as well. I got the chicken Marsala and loved it. The wine room looked really neat. I'd like to do a wine tasting next time I'm in town. Our waitress was wonderful! She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I forgot her name but she had Brunette hair and took care of us on 1/30/24 at 6pm in the Gallery room. I highly recommend eating in the Gallery room. It felt more private and quiet. read more

If you ever find yourself in the Oxford/Anniston, AL area, try dinner at Garfrerick's Cafe, a farm-to-table, wood-fired grilled concept. Walking in, you're first hit with the aroma of the wood-fired grill, an intoxicating Hickory campfire scent wafting through the dining room. The walls are adorned with paintings, portraits, and photographs from local artists available for purchase. We started the meal with a Beet Salad: Seasonal roasted beets, julienne Granny Smith apples, walnut citrus vinaigrette, and topped with goat cheese. Sweet, sour, and tangy. A great way to awaken the palate. For the entree, Rack of Lamb: Hickory grilled rack of lamb over Anson Mills organic grits with grilled asparagus spears and a blueberry balsamic reduction. Cooked to a perfect mid-rare, the hickory wood flavor comes shining through. The grits were rich and creamy. And swiping a bite of lamb through that blueberry balsamic reduction is a perfect bite. To end things, we got Dave's Company Cheesecake. It's a house-made seasonal cheesecake. For tonight it was a raspberry swirl cheesecake in a pool of something they call, "Sweet Baby Jesus" peanut butter sauce. From day 1, Rachel was AMAZING at helping us plan the catering for our wedding. the food tasting was amazing and Rachel had answers to every single one of our questions. She was so patient working with us and figuring out the dynamics of a larger backyard wedding. Rachel thought of EVERYTHING and I kept telling her she could truly be a wedding planner! This is an off-the-beaten-path restaurant in Oxford, AL. The only way we could tell something was there was the small "Open" sign and outdoor string lights under the awning. Upon entering we were greeted with a warm hello and welcome to Garfrerick's. We did not have a reservation but were seated anyway. Our waitress was extremely efficient and very friendly. We ordered our drinks and were served our drinks with very fresh bread within minutes. Our order was taken and arrived a short time later. My steak was cooked to perfection and my wife was very pleased with her crab cake and creamed corn. As we were enjoying our meal, I saw why reservations are needed. Stephanie at the bar served me generous pours of wine and kept me entertained with stories of her mixologist experience. She recommended the halibut with coconut rice, which was exquisite. The lack of seasoning was aggravated by being lukewarm to room temp due to being served on cold plates. The crab cake appetizer came very quickly and was likewise cold as if prepared before we ordered. Our waitress was very pleasant when she bothered to come by our table. I watched my glass of wine sit in queue on the bar until my meal was almost finished all the while resisting the urge to go get it myself. We left about half of our meals uneaten without anyone inquiring about whether we enjoyed it. We brought in 10 people and they were able to give us a private room and the service was outstanding - prompt, friendly, and cheerful. I had the Redfish it was perfectly cooked and tasty. Some of our meals were spectacular (steaks, Halibut were wonderful), other meals in the group were good, but not spectacular (Chicken Marsala). The seasonal menu provided great options. Pretty good dining experience for a small town! It was pretty empty but, it was a rainy weekday, so that may have kept some people home. There isn't a large sign over the restaurant, so it took a touch longer than to find it. The staff was friendly as soon as I walked in, the waitress was engaging and helpful. I spent the night in Oxford, Alabama before a gravel, bicycle race. looking for a dinner spot, this restaurant, reviews and menu appealed to me as the restaurant advertises itself as farm to table with many of the vegetables grown at the chefs own Farm. I started with the heirloom, tomato stack salad. Since it is October, I asked whether the tomatoes were local, and my waitress assured me, they were grown by the chef/owner. The tomatoes were tasty, although they didn't taste like true heirloom, such as my favorite favorite purple Cherokees. The salad included purplehull peas and corn, which were small kernels/legumes, so maybe they were local? For my entree I had the halibut with jasmine rice and sautéed peppers in a Asian inspired glaze. Overall, I was pleased with my meal, especially in a relatively small town. I didn't expect this level of cooking and attention to detail in Oxford, Alabama. If I'm in the area again, I would definitely enjoy another meal here. read more

What a fantastic place to visit! Miss Morgan was an absolute hoot, took care of the 8 of us and gave the attitude back!

1 year later! We survived another year of marriage and celebrated in the same spot. Service was fine. We started with the crab cake which was great though more crab than cake. Hubby got the ribeye entree and while he ordered it medium, received it closer to medium-rare, but it was tender, rich, and had lots of gravy. I ordered the salmon which was perfectly done and the roasted vegetables were DELICIOUS. We ended our meal with the chocolate custard split between the two of us. On a trip through Oxford, we desperately wanted a local fresh restaurant and stumbled upon Garfrericks based on Yelp reviews. Their menu was amazingly impressive and the staff was so welcoming. Our server, Morgan, went above and beyond to explain the menu and even offered samples of wines we were trying to decide between at the beginning of the meal. We split a seasonal tomato salad with goat cheese, pea succotash, and balsamic glaze which was a meal highlight as well as a tomato pie. Entrees consumed were scoops and pecan-crusted grouper which were stellar as well. Can't recommend stopping in if you are in the area because the farm to table freshness is impeccable.
