The chicken tenders was really really delicious. As a non spicy person, I went for the mild level and dipped the chicken in honey. The tenders were juicy, moist, and seasoned well. I now understand why people wait in line for this. The Shake fries were also really good and addicting. I saw a lot of people get the Sando so planning to come back for it next time. Staff and service was excellent. There's a parking lot in the back shared with Sidecar Doughnuts. Side note, could smell the sweet flavor in the air while waiting for Howling.

If you ever want one thing in LA, it HAS to be Howlin' Rays. I came on a Friday early afternoon and only waited maybe 20 minutes which isn't bad at all. I know that the long lines seem really intimidating but it's worth it. I love the community feel this place has because all the employees' are friendly and it feels like you're at home. If you want a table, they have these 'reserved' placards placed on the table but it's not really reserved and more so, for one of the employees to "seat" you down at a clean table. Food: Sando medium spice (9.5/10): First time trying medium and it wasn't too spicy. We didn't get rid of anything so it comes with slaw and pickles on top of a spice coated chicken breast sandwiched in between toasted bread. I do wish that the spice was more evenly distributed throughout the chicken since the most spicy part was at the beginning with the solid crunch. The slaw adds a nice freshness with every bite so it doesn't feel as heavy. The pickles add a touch of acidity and I don't think that it was acidic to the point where it overpowered everything. French Fries (9/10): Crispy exterior with a soft, fluffy interior are my cup of tea. The seasoning they use adds a nice spice to each bite. We also got a cup of their comeback sauce and it was the cherry on top.

Thought I do an updated review on Howlin' Ray's. I've only been here maybe 3 times. My experience every time has been top-notch. I can't say enough great things on their world class staff, exceptional service, and amazing foods + drinks. This establishment brings it every day! My most recent visit was full of spicy and sweet surprises. The young gentleman behind the register was super friendly and helpful. He offered shake fries on the house so I can try them. Thank you! I forgot to order a drink. The young lady behind the counter said she got me covered. I got a bottled orange drink on the house. Thank you! Wow, now that's generous hospitality. I got 3 chicken wings that came with one toast and some pickles plus the shake fries. Wings were lightly fried with perfect crispness. Mild spice was still spicy, but manageable good spice. Bread was good, but it would have been nice if it was lightly toasted. Pickles were delightful. It was indeed one tasty lunch. Howlin' Ray's, you're the best! I'm coming back with full force for more deliciousness. I'll be howlin' all the way here.

2nd time here while also taking the train so that is a huge plus that it is walking distance from the station! The chicken was so delicious and flavorful as always and I tried Howlin spice this time and wow it was intense! This location has the best employees and are so communicative and helpful. I've always had a great experience here even when it's busy!!

The food is five stars all day and night. The chicken is ALWAYS cooked to perfection: juicy, meaty, and rich with spicy goodness. If you love fried chicken, you cannot go wrong eating here. The service i have mixed opinions. Most all of the employees are friendly. Maybe too friendly. Part of the reason for their long line would be the talkative cashiers. There is a way to chat up the customer while still keeping things moving along, but I've not seen it once while there; the chicken is that good that I put up with my least favorite thing at a restaurant--unnecessary conversation that adds to the wait time. The ambiance is also not my favorite. It's too loud in there. The music could be a touch lower--I'm there to eat, not be at the club--and the top notch cooks in the back yell a lot. I will say that the yelling appears to keep them upbeat, positive, and motivated; I see the value in it, yet it's the reason I get delicious chicken to go. They have a clean bathroom, a parking lot in back, and some of the best chicken in the Greater Los Angeles area. My mouth waters when I even begin to think about going there. Also, I believe the times to avoid the long waits would be weekdays until about 3 PM ish.

The best hot chicken! The chicken is so juicy. The mild is a good heat level (although I think can be hotter), the medium is too hot imo if I got them as tenders. The french fries are a big portion so they are definitely shareable! The only con is you have to pay extra for sauce, but the comeback sauce is pretty yummy! The service there is amazing, the workers are so friendly and were asking if I needed anything. The restaurant itself is super fun, the bathrooms have disco balls and they have Aesop soap! Overall, amazing and will be coming back again! Also they have pebble ice!!

Limited street parking with time restrictions. Upon our wait as the line wrapped around the building the staff came outside to offer umbrellas for our comfort. A mood setter for calm guests. Order first then show your receipt to staff to get put on waitlist for a table. Wait to be seated. Nice touch of self serve water and sparking water on tap with ice machine. Perfect for the hot day. Inside or patio seating options. Chicken sandos were awesome. Crinkle fries were crisp on the outside fluffy on the inside, slaw was the kind I can eat perfect acidity hit between bites. Mac salad was nice and creamy with tender pasta bites. Will return for another round. A must when craving some spicy, crispy chicken!

We visited on a slightly rainy Saturday, 4/26/26, and it was excellent. The line is usually 45+ minutes and wraps around the building, into the parking lot. Because of the precipitation, we only waited about 20 minutes. The restaurant is a well oiled machine with all of the staff working in sync. The cashier was super friendly, offering samples of chicken for folks unsure of the spice level to order or of the beer on tap. We ordered the Tenders entree with the option to have a different spice level for each of the three tenders...but I made all three medium spice. My husband ordered The Sando at a medium spice level. And we each ordered Shake Fries - very crispy and well seasoned crinkle cut fries. Pro tip, order a Tennessee Tang dipping sauce - ranch with dill, super yummy. The medium is the perfect spice level for us - enough heat for flavor and to water the nose a bit. There is a Medium Plus that gives me the hiccups and I won't go any hotter. The space is polished concrete floors, half booths along the windows across the pick up counter, and tables long the windows facing Arroyo Parkway. The parking lot is way too tiny, so we usually don't bother and just park on the street. This place is worth the wait and definitely eat at the restaurant so it's hot and fresh. They have an exclusive delivery partner, Postmates, but usually delivery takes too long where the food isn't as fresh or hot.

This place is amazing! Food is delicious and the staff are so welcoming and kind. I got the Sando (Medium spice level) with shake fries. The spice level was perfect and the portion sizes were generous. There will be a line to wait in that likely wraps around the building, but it is worth the wait! We waited about 45 minutes. After ordering and paying at the counter, we were directed to a staff member who helped seat us at the next available table. They had a very smooth flow for customers and great table management. Our food came out in about 10 minutes. The restaurant had seating inside and outside, very clean and welcoming feel. The energy from the staff was great, they really created a fun and uplifting environment. The staff also checks in while you are dining, which is nice! They have a water station where you pick up your food. They even had a sink outside of the bathrooms for customers to wash up! There is a parking lot located behind the restaurant and some street parking in the area. This is a new favorite! Can't wait to go back!

LOVED this spot. I got the mild chicken tenders and the spice level was perfect for me. I tried medium and that was way too much for me. After getting my order, I saw how big each tender was. Portions are very generous and the quality is great. Staff was so nice and continuously checked up on my party. There is also plenty of seating and staff are constantly cleaning tables, so you probably won't have trouble finding seating despite how busy they get.

Street parking or a valet parking lot next door. It's kind of hidden located inside an older plaza building. The seats are all set up outside! We came on a weekday and surprisingly still a good amount of people. I only got the fried chicken breast to try since I just had lunch nearby and always heard about this place. I must say! The fried chicken was amazing!! Super crispy skin and tender on the inside! You can also try their special sauces for an extra price. I'd definitely want to be back to try the sandwich. And the staff was also amazing!! Super nice and friendly

If you haven't gone, you're missing out. I've gone to the Chinatown one at least a dozen times and this is my first time at the Pasadena one and they do not disappoint. Literally 10/10. The Pasadena one actually has beers which is plus while enjoying their delicious chicken. I've tried other Nashville hot chicken place but this is the best! I would definitely take the hour drive and wait in line any day. The customer service is always on point. They know their customer and are always looking out. I arrived today with them handing out umbrellas to their customers due to the heat and sun. What other place does that?! When picking up your food, they introduce their names and asked you for yours. They make it personable and feels like you're making a friend. They come and check on us at least 3 times while we were eating. I can't say enough good thing about this place. They ambiance is cheerful and the music is great. My boyfriend mentioned that I looked "happy" eating my chicken and I really was. I was totally enjoying it and it was giving me a foodgasm in my mouth. read more

AMAZING. It was pouring rain, and staff was so kind to handout umbrellas. Staff was very tentative and were so kind!!! Food was sooo delicious, so filling! Best fried chicken place ever. Lastly, ambiance was great also, it's small but the friendly staff help you grab a table. 10/10 would recommend even if there's a long line outside it's worth the wait!!!!!!!!!! read more

That's some good chicken! Got the 'Medium' hot for the sandwiches and it was perfect. We got a solo tender in the 'Hot' spice level to test it out and we almost had an aneurysm hahah. I dont know why anyone would even get near the 'Howlin' but, hey to each their own. Honestly, what was even better than the chicken was the staff! Super friendly and welcoming, they made the experience even better. One of the staff members even jumped in our booth and got in a photo with us :) Will see you all again soon! read more

The food is good, the tenders are decently sized and juicy. Although, I recommend sticking with mild or medium as hot was spicier than I expected. I believe they use a habanero and ghost pepper dry rub which was really good but when eating three whole tenders that can be a challenge. Prices are a little high but I suppose that's to be expected for this quality and service. The employees are very helpful like letting you sample the hot spices. They also keep the establishment clean. This particular location was unfortunately a bit small. I was able to sit indoors, however, you need to be serviced first before claiming a table. They also have a limited parking spot behind the restaurant which is shared with another restaurant so most people park on the street. read more

Possibly the best service I have experienced at a fast food restaurant. In addition to the tenders being very juicy and seasoned, the food is immaculate and large for its price. However, if you are familiar with Dave's' Hot Chicken, do understand that the spice levels here are much spicer than it's competitor. While struggling to handle the heat with the hot and extra hot levels, one of the waitresses gave us all milk and free mild tenders. You heard it! 3 mild tenders that would have been $12 for free! I love all the waiters and the hospitality here. In addition, the theme of the restaurant is beautiful. Even the bathroom is a party. The only thing that I would say looks off is the front sign, but otherwise than that, I can say the 1-2 hour wait is worth it! read more

It's good chicken, but wait in line for 1.5 hours good? Idk! The presentation, customer service and overall vibe is 5 stars across the board. The wings, tenders, fries are all good - but nothing ground breaking. I definitely think it's a well ran restaurant with free advertising (lines down the block everyday) so good for them. Easily the best hot chicken sandwich I've ever had. Well worth standing in line, and there will be a line. What makes Howlin' Ray's different from other hot chicken places I've tried is their fries are on the same level as their chicken. No one trick pony here. Their fries are super crispy on the outside with a soft interior and spiced to perfection. Customer service is on point from when you walk in the door to when you leave. How often does a manager come over to introduce themselves and ask if it's your first visit while you're waiting for your order? At Howlin' Ray's they do. Get in line and find out for yourself. You won't be sorry. read more

Been wanting to try for years, but distance and waiting time deterred me. Arrived around 2pm on a weekday. Parking lot full so found spot on street in front. Be careful though. No parking after 3pm and the city tows!!! Line took about twenty minutes. Not too bad. Ordered a couple sandwiches, fries and tenders. Everything was delicious, huge portions and extremely friendly and efficient staff. Wasn't crazy about the loud music and selection. But I'm old! Not sure when I'll return as it's a 24 mile drive from my house. It's probably the best chicken sandwich I've ever had, though. read more

I came here with my cousin to catch up and obviously for the food. They have a parking lot and I was able to get a spot as soon as I arrived. We got in line and it was a little busy but nothing they can't handle. The line went by so fast and we ordered the medium tenders. I didn't know this but for the parents out there, you can order fries w/o seasoning which I thought was cool. :) Everyone working there was really nice and attentive. They even brought out our food which was very appreciated. The best part was when I had to order something to go and get back in the long line. Luckily, one of the employees had recognized that I ordered already and took care of my order back at my table. He got my order to go and I didn't have to stand in the rain! Anyways, Howlin will always have my business. The chicken is always juicy, nice spice and just good vibes all around. Bring your friends/family here!! read more

Ok this place is worth the hype. 10/10 in all aspects. The food tastes amazing. I got the Sando and 2 chicken strips to give them a try. I would personally stick to mild or medium, this place's hot isn't watered down, it's actually hot lol. The employee warned me but I went for it and wow I got burnt lol but it's part of the fun so I'm glad I tried it. The sauces are really good too, I tried the comeback sauce and their special ranch, both go really well with the food. The vibe of the place is really good too, you can tell the employees like their job and the feeling inside the restaurant is happy. I love this. Lastly, the service is so good. The employees are very nice and interactive, they have manners and actually tend to your needs. It was my first time coming here and they gave me free desert and free sauces, that's actually amazing. This place is an owners manual on how to run a successful business. Love it and would recommend to anyone, I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Had the Santo burger and fries. The fries was so good! Well seasoned and crispy even hours after purchase! A bit of the fried chicken was dry but with the coleslaw, it added moistness to the burger. The breading of the chicken was just right. Glad they opened this location. read more

"A truly exceptional dining experience at Howlin rays!The food was beautifully prepared, with fresh, flavorful ingredients and creative combinations that delighted the palate. I don't understand the fuss about this restaurant. The staff is super friendly and fun, but I'm sorry to say that the Sando isn't special at all. Good bun, but the chicken breast is dry and overcooked. If you want a GREAT fried chicken sandwich, head to A Cut Above in Santa Monica on a weekend. It doesn't have the heat of Howlin' Ray's (thankfully, at least for me), but their fried chicken is perfect: juicy, tender, never overcooked, and huge. They're my gold standard, and unfortunately Howlin' Ray's doesn't measure up. read more

There are a lot of hot chicken places around LA, and I don't think any of them are bad. But Howlin' Rays has really great and fresh chicken, really good fries that are crisp, served hot and seasoned perfectly, and the most attentive, positive energy staff of any restaurant I've been to recently. I've been twice in the last week, and I'll definitely go again. There's not a ton of seating, but I've been able to find a table either inside or on their shaded patio on both my visits. If you like good chicken and find yourself around Pasadena or Chinatown, you should try it out. read more

I don't see what the fuss is all about. The food was just ok. Nothing too special. People are really hyping this place up..the best things here are the fries and the customer service is top notch. The hot chicken in my opinion is just hot, not a lot of flavor. I tried the chicken tenders, they could definitely used a little more seasoning on them. To me they were bland. The chicken tastes like it was marinated in pickle juice. If you like pickles, you'll probably love it! Being someone who normally likes spicy but can't eat it at the moment due to personal reasons, warning the mild is hot!! My stomach started hurting immediately. The drinks look good but i didnt try those. Maybe ill go back and try them. read more

We went on a Saturday for lunch and it was crowded!! The line was long and it moved very slowly. Once we finally got in and ordered, it took a long time to get our order too. I think it took us 1.5 hours total to get in and get out. The inside is also very small so it's hard to dine in as well. I got the sando - mild and it was still too spicy for me lol. The portions are huge and the chicken is nice and moist, so it's worth the money...but for me it's not worth the wait lol. My friends think otherwise though read more

10/10 worth the hype! i'd just come back from a nashville trip and was missing hattie b's, so decided to give this place a try. i ordered thru postmates and it arrived late (not howlin's fault). i got the chicken sando in hot. it was DELICIOUS -- seasoning was amazing, chicken perfectly juicy, all the accompaniments a perfect symphony of flavor. i was like, GURL. hattie who?! if it tasted like that, 20 mins LATE - i cannot wait to visit in person and eat it fresh! read more

Easily best spicy chicken sandwich i've ever had! I love spicy food, but "Medium plus" spicy level was already super hot for me. Not only was the sandwich amazing, but also the colorful environment, the hype music choices (it felt like i was at the club), and the positive attitudes of the employees were all a great experience. This is the only food place i've been to where the staff appeared genuinely glad to be there, so so happy I came here! read more

The food is a 10 out of 10, yes. The chicken has a lovely crust. The slaw is perfectly crunchy. The bread is soft. I find the medium to be the best spice level for me as I found to mild to lack flavor. But we waited 30+ minutes for our food. There needs to be more registers (as the other reviews mention, there's only 1) or more people with those handheld checkout devices. Maybe it's to help pace the orders, but something needs to change :( Other than that, the service is solid and the restaurant is clean. read more

Awesome staff and such good food! The "hot" is NO JOKE so do not get it if you are not good with spicy food (staff is super nice and helpful and will warn you every step of the way too). - Sando is incredible - Sando 2.0 is not my favorite but I'm not big on sweetness in my savory food - Fried chicken is super good. They do not break the chicken down so get ready to get primal haha. Kinda wish they did but it's not a big deal. - The fries are also incredible read more

Food is good, but this review is about the business practice and efficiency. This restaurant THRIVES on manufactured hype and is more of a brand than it is a restaurant. I might sound like a conspiracy theorist but stay with me! My husband and I have gotten Postmates delivery before and knew the food was good. Yesterday, we decided to go to the restaurant in person to change things up and support them directly - plus, the line wasn't too long. There were about 12 parties in front of us, so it shouldn't take that long, right? Wrong! After waiting for a full hour, we finally approached the ONLY cashier who was more interested in having a conversation and complimenting our jackets and giving us a history of the restaurant, unprompted, than actually just taking our order - wild considering there is an entire line wrapped around the building! Normally I actually really enjoy chatting with cashiers, but her conversation was so forced, unnatural and awkward - it's clear they are instructed to chit chat. Because of this, it took over 5 minutes just to order two sandwiches. We also noticed they only have one POS station inside their pretty large brand new restaurant. If your original location had lines that lasted hours, WHY would you only build one cash register for your new, larger location?! The reason? To keep the line long and around the block, as a way to advertise to people driving by. Once our food was finally ready, the guy giving us our order fist bumped my husband, kept calling him Boss and complimented his sweatshirt - even asked him where he got it and how much he paid for it, then asked how much shipping was, which I thought was weird and SO forced. Can you ever imagine that coming out of your mouth in the natural flow of conversation? LOL. Then another guy came up and did the same thing, complimented my husbands (basic, grey) sweatshirt, ver batim, line by line, what the last guy said. By the time the third employee we interacted with complimented the same basic grey sweatshirt, it was obvious that they are trained to carry on conversation, compliment whatever the customer is wearing, and try to just keep them there as long as possible and slow down the whole operation. This makes me sound like some type of Scrooge - trust me, I love chatting with strangers and human connection, but this felt so uncomfortably forced and weird, like a Stepford Wives robotic type of vibe. The people of Los Angeles just want your delicious hot chicken without waiting 1-2 hours for it - please god just give them what they want - add another cash register and stop with the manufactured chatter!!! Side note, I was really weirded out to see that the restaurant is... sponsored by Adidas???? Again, more of a brand than a restaurant! read more

History

Established in 2015.

We are a husband and wife team with a serious passion for fried chicken. Chef Johnny, an LA native, has worked professionally under some of the best chefs in the world, including Thomas Keller, Gordon Ramsay and Nobu Matsuhisa. Amanda grew up with her grandparents in the heartland, growing, hunting, fishing, harvesting and preserving most of their food supply and spending summers in East Texas learning about southern soul and hospitality. In 2014, during a stage at Sean Brock's Husk in Nashville, a local chef introduced Johnny to Nashville Hot Chicken. It was instantaneous love. Johnny brought back tales of this hidden gem to LA along with a strong desire to return to Nashville...and so the Hot Chicken tour was born. In November 2015, we announced the final stop of our Hot Chicken truck. The doors opened to LA's first Hot Chicken shack in March 2016! You can find us in Chinatown's Far East Plaza and Pasadena!

When the manager returned, I simply asked if we could please get our two slices of cake so we could leave. He apologized and went to retrieve them. It took 25 minutes to get 2 slices of cake and possibly longer if I had not stopped the manager. We finally walked out more than two hours after being seated, having spent most of that time waiting rather than enjoying our meal. To make matters worse, going a few minutes beyond the two-hour mark triggered another hour of parking charges, making an already expensive evening even more frustrating. I feel bad because I had built this place up so much to my family, and their first experience was disappointing. I know holiday crowds can be difficult, and I truly appreciate the staff members who remained courteous throughout the night, but management seriously underestimated the demand and the customer experience suffered because of it. I hope Fixins can address these issues because I'd like to remember the restaurant for its food and hospitality and not for spending two hours mostly waiting to be served. I had to take pics of my daughter with her head down on the table waiting on her food. Happy to share them privately.

Service and food were nothing but amazing! Their menu is very limited. Maybe not everyone will appreciate that, but I think it is more intentional on what is being served to the table. Our highlight of the night was the Grandpa's Pan Roasted Duck Magret Au Poivre for sure. It was so tender on the inside and crispy on the outer edges! The Panda Beef was shockingly amazing with crisp and flavorful slices of beef. We finished up dinner with Chocolate Lava Cake and the Warm Rice Pudding, the latter of which is also made in house. Both were a very great end to the dinner. Upon checking in, I was a bit early and was prompted we couldn't sit before the entire party was there. Once ready, we were seated at a large table near the back. It was spacious and we all had ample room for our dishes. One of the things I liked the most about the menu was the variety of items. Some of my friends got ramen, while another got handrolls, skewers, etc. Personally, I got the chirashi donburi. This took the longest to make but it was well worth it. Everything from the rice to fish were seasoned well. This was the perfect dish for someone that's super indecisive like me! Furthermore, the vibes of the place was great. We had a server that frequently came to fill out waters. He had a great sense of hype as well. Highly recommend Mills Alley for the delicious food and ambiance!

I am writing to bring to your attention an unfortunate incident that I witnessed at your Howlin Rays restaurant in Glendale a few weeks ago. After much contemplation, I decided to provide this feedback so that the owners or general manager could be made aware of the situation and take appropriate measures to address it. The incident in question occurred on a Sunday around 3:30 pm. I was seated nearby and observed a mother and her son taking a seat in front of me. To my surprise, a particularly rude customer approached them and demanded that they leave the table, citing the absence of an order number. The mother politely explained that her husband had gone to the restroom and was in the process of placing their order. It was baffling to witness such rudeness from the customer towards the mother, especially since the customer was right in front of her space. Subsequently, a customer service representative became involved, though I am unsure of the exact details. After approximately five minutes, one of your servers approached the family and asked for their seat number. Once again, the mother explained that her husband was still in the restroom and would be returning with their order shortly. To my astonishment, the server insisted that they vacate the table. I could not believe that the server would ask the mother to leave, especially considering there were no signs indicating that a table could not be occupied without an order number. I have been a frequent patron of your restaurant and have observed numerous instances where customers occupied their seats before receiving an order number, myself included. The argument persisted for approximately 10-15 minutes until the husband returned and engaged in a conversation with the server. Even during the husband's attempt to complete their order, the server continued to pester the mother to leave the table. This unprofessional behavior deeply disappointed me and caused me to reconsider whether I would continue to visit your establishment in the future. As a customer, I believe that good customer service is crucial to the overall dining experience. It is disheartening to witness such incidents, as they tarnish the reputation of an otherwise excellent establishment like Howlin Rays. I kindly request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure that incidents like these are not repeated. I don't understand the hype around Howlin' Ray's. This place is the epitome of overrated and overpriced hot chicken. Is this a marketing tactic to make it seem like there's some insane demand for their food? Because it's not fooling anyone. The layout is inefficient and unnecessary, especially when there are so many better hot chicken spots out there now. Why wait in a line that feels like it's designed just to create hype when you can go to Dave's Hot Chicken, get your food immediately, and enjoy a meal that's just as good (if not better)? Now, the food. It's just... not worth the wait or the price. The chicken was dry, the seasoning was unbalanced, and the heat levels felt more like a gimmick than a well-thought-out flavor profile. The sides were forgettable, and the overall experience left me wondering why I wasted my time. Maybe back in pre-COVID times, when hot chicken wasn't as popular, Howlin' Ray's could get away with this, but now? There are so many better options out there. My husband and I have been trying all the best eats in SoCal lately, and we saw that Howlin' Ray's has one of the top-rated fried chicken sandwiches in the country, so we decided to check it out. For starters, the line is always long. Prepare to wait at least an hour. It's worth it, though. Now, for the food. The menu is small and it's tailored around a Nashville-hot-chicken theme. It features classics, such as a fried chicken sandwich ("The Sando"), chicken and waffles, chicken tenders, and sides like collared greens and potato salad. My husband and I both had The Sando, and I have to say, it's hands-down the best fried chicken sandwich we've ever had in our entire lives. Definitely worth all the praise and accolades. We also really love the banana pudding that they offer for dessert. Now, let's talk heat. The menu offers five heat flavors - country, mild, medium, hot, extra hot, and howlin'. I'm a wuss, so I had my chicken sandwich country-style (no heat). It was delicious! My husband loves spicy food, and he can handle heat. With that said, he tapped out at their 'x-hot' level. He said he can't imagine how spicy their 'howlin' level is. For reference, their 'howlin' measures in at two-million Scoville units. One of the workers said 'medium' is their most popular flavor, and people are often surprised how hot the 'medium' flavor is. So, if you like spicy food, I suggest starting with 'medium'. Lastly, the workers. Wow. They are so awesome! So friendly. So helpful. So cool. We love chatting with them every time we're in there. We've been to Howlin' Ray's three times in the past two weeks, and I'm sure this will now be one of our regular spots. Love this place! read more

Wow, just wow! Howlin' Rays in Pasadena is an absolute must-visit spot for anyone who loves incredible fried chicken. My experience there was nothing short of amazing, despite waiting in the rain for two hours. And to top it off, they even supplied umbrellas for us! The wait was definitely worth it, as the food at Howlin' Rays is out of this world. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy, with just the right amount of spice. The sides were equally delicious, and I especially loved the mac and cheese and collard greens. But what really sets Howlin' Rays apart is the amazing customer service. Despite the long wait, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and even offered us free waffles as a thank you for waiting. Just as I remember on my two previous visits, and Julian Mario Steven held my team of five up. My wife, our dog, and I were patiently waiting outside for a table, not realizing we were supposed to put our name down. Instead of letting us figure it out on our own, one of the incredibly kind staff members noticed us and proactively came over to help find us a table. This is the GOAT Hot Chicken spot in LA , it's very rare when a restaurant lives up to the hype but it's even more rare when a restaurant exceeds the hype and that is what Howlin Rays does. Saying this sando is just great is offensive , this sandwich is GENERATIONAL..this sandwich is 2012 Lebron James ..it's just that elite. I have to get that sandwich at least once a month or I lose my sanity. I am so lucky they have this location near me and the line doesn't seem to get too crazy like it used to be back in the day.
