We always enjoy coming here for breakfast. I'm giving a general good review for their coffee, pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and waffles. That's all i can comment on bc that's all I've tried. I enjoyed the tri tip breakfast but my husband would pass on it next time; but personally I think he just didn't enjoy medium rare - should have went with medium. We were mislead by several reviews and stopped by this place while in the area. The food makes foodservice fare seem like sustainable organic cuisine. The omelette was essentially a malformed puck of scrambled eggs and canned ingredients. The "home fries" were effectively rehydrated factory byproduct. The bacon was simply inedible. Suet? Soy? We could not tell. In fact, we ate one strip of bacon not because we wanted to, but rather because we were trying to discern its origin. The prices are not "right." They are obscene. As two adults and a six-year-old we ran up a $40 tab- for food that should be used in a future episode of "Scared Straight." As a restaurant or coffee shop, Howard's is a window to the not-so-distant past when cheap industrial food was desirable. The staff are friendly. I really wanted to like this place. I love eating at local diners vs. chain restaurants. However, this place is tired and could really use the help of that restaurant take over show. Old furnishings - didn't even feel clean. Restroom was okay. Food was poor and all I ordered was a veggie omelette - how do you mess this up? Start by using processed swiss cheese. I usually order swiss cheese to avoid the process cheese that some diners use. Nope, two nice squares were affixed to the top of my egg. Their home fries were tired. They tasted like they had sat around for a long time. We were there at 7 pm - could they have been there since breakfast?? Pricing over priced for what they were serving. Service slow. I had to ask twice for salsa. When I got some it was in a small plastic cup - possibly a tablespoon. I have drove over to Howards 3 times. The last 2 times there were no cars in the parking lot and the place was barely lit inside...and we could see no one inside eating....so my boys asked me not to go in. I find it weird....last night I did see a woman inside behind a counter just staring outside, she had light colored hair. My boys again asked me to drive away. We were there at 6 PM on a Thursday...should have been someone there eating. Just really strange...I dont know if we will go by again...I noticed there are not many new posts...did the place change hands...??? Tried this place for the 1st time today. We went here because the 1st place we went (Huff's in LB) . Howard's is a typical old school diner. The waitress was nice. The food was just OK. The prices are way to high for the amount and quality of food that you get. I think that if the portions were bigger or the prices were cheaper I would have given this place a 3. I had the Beef Eater with fries, which was OK. My wife had the Monte Christo which see said was good. My son had the Chili Bowl and said it was not good and it tasted like canned Chili. read more

I passed by Howard's many times and always wanted to give it a try. Last Friday I did and I'm sad to say I was very disappointed. I ordered just a simple veggie burger and a side salad and it cost 10.00 !!!!! Usually that wouldn't bother me if it was somewhat of the same burger that volcano burger serves with at least a side salad that has the color green. Instead the salad was the white part of the lettuce and half of a slice of tomatoes that didn't even taste fresh. The burger was on two pieces of cheap sandwich bread and the veggie burger looked like it was morning star that was microwaved to long. This is my go to breakfast place if I want good old fashion corn beef has and eggs. No frills or fuss. It's a solid breakfast place. It's got the old fifties decor and a counter you can eat at. Most of the breakfast plates come with your choice of pancakes, biscuits and gravy, toast, fruit, or sliced tomatoes AS WELL AS your choice of hash or country potatoes. The service can be slow but not inattentive. I can come and have a quick breakfast in under an hour (depending on my entree choice) or a nice long leisurely meal while reading the entire Sunday paper. They are busier in the early mornings but by mid morning the regulars have come and gone and there's plenty of parking and tables. read more

Just as the rating says "A-OK". Went here for breakfast and the food was good and cooked well. Service was ok. Prices seemed a $1-$2 more than other "burger joint" style restaurants. If I pay an extra buck or two I expect something special for my money...excellent seasoning or the best service ever or something. I thought the food and service were very average so no need to charge more. If the prices were more affordable I'd raise them up a star. The service is 5 star! I didn't read the reviews because this place is within walking distance and I have been curious to check it out. I should have looked at the menu pictures I would have realized the food is wayyyy over priced for the portions and taste so I give 0 stars for value and 3 stars on taste. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised. Like most of the reviews here, I've been driving past this place for many years now, and decided to take my wife in. Entering is a little freaky... it's almost like going into a time machine back to 1982. For the most part, it's pretty endearing, but the place definitely needs a little TLC. But the food is great! It totally walks all over the chain across the street.... not to mention that the coffee actually tastes good. It's a little more expensive than the chain across the street, but you're supporting a local business with superior food... so you feel like the money is well spent. Honestly. Ive had some bad meals, but this was absolutely the worst I've had. The meal i had was definitely from canned meat, you can taste the preservatives, the fat was hard, and you can tell it's just a lazy way of making a proper breakfast. My girlfriend got something simple as chorizo omelette. What we got? It was a patty that had the texture of tofu with 70% scrambled eggs and 30%chorizo. It was like leftovers put through a blender and cooked into a block, sprinkled with cheese. It's priced high too. Run, just run. read more

Cheap prices for late breakfast cant get any better around Cypress! Definitely better than the usual Ihop and Dennys, or its always good to try something different around the city. I really like this place! Granted, I don't come here often but when I do, I always enjoy it. They're friendly and the food is solid. I come here for their breakfast and they usually have some kind of awesome breakfast deal painted on the window. The interior is cozy and always makes me feel like I'm at a genuine diner. Like one of those places in movies where the main character goes to eat breakfast, read the morning paper and is on a first name basis with the waitress. This place was definitely the worst place I have eaten in years. Lifeless un- refreshed extremely overpriced and marginal quality. I wanted a Monte Cristo sandwich and soup, but I refused to pay 18.50 for a diner entree. I got a bacon cheeseburger burger and salad for $13.50. That price sucked too. Hamburger Patty was like a frozen and fried hockey puck. I wished I had simply gone to any Greek burger place on Earth. Two burger plates and two sodas was $35 and change. Mortifying experience. -I came here at 7 in the morning on a Thursday for breakfast because my fridge was empty and I'm too lazy to go tot the market -A couple people on here comment that the interior is outdated and hokey, but that's why I like it! I feel like I'm in a real mom & pop diner. -There was two tables with old people sitting down and they were yelling across the restaurant to each other and having a full on conversation... it was very disruptive and annoying, but I can't hold the restaurant responsible for that (why didn't those dumb people just sit at the same table let alone the same side of the restaurant! :p) - The food was pretty good and extremely filling. I had the Canadian bacon and eggs plate with a side of pancakes. - When I ordered a cup of coffee, the waitress returned regularly to refill my cup so it was never empty - The waitress was super friendly and attentive -The kitchen was super fast and had my food done so quickly that I didn't even have time to read my newspaper :) * I will be back! read more

I walked over to Howard's with a friend of mine on a Saturday morning...the place is small & prices are very cheap. We ordered french toast with eggs, bacon, hash browns, & a side of biscuits & gravy. The breakfast wasn't so great in my opinion. The biscuits were kinda on the stale side...& they served the gravy on the side in a little dipping cup as well as the ketchup which I hate!! I don't know about you but I like to take charge with the ketchup bottle & put as much as my heart desires... I don't like the fact that I had to keep asking for kethchup...The food was sub-par ..nothing to brag about..which sucks because it is literally walking distance so I was hoping it would be good so I could have a hangover breakfast spot oh well...maybe the next time I move I will get lucky.... read more

This Place is disgusting!!! I was raised in Cypress and had never been here. My wife and I went at 10:30 this am and I ordered breakfast and she ordered a sandwich. I took two bites and left the rest. The sausage was spoiled, eggs burnt, gravy was like paste (taste and consistency). The waitress walked by not even looking and asked if all was ok? I replied Im not eating this it doesn't agree with me but never responded. Upon leaving we found we were overcharged. The breakfast was supposed to be $6.75 and the sandwich was supposed be $6.99. We were charged $32.00 for the worst meal I think Ive ever had at a restaurant. My wife has been ill all afternoon as well. My advise..... I've been here a couple times because I used to get math tutoring which is in the same strip mall right there. One day I was so hungry and I just could not wait to drive somewhere else. The place was packed at 7pm on a Wednesday night, but I was seated immediately (yay, I got lucky). The place is cozy but everything looks kinda retro and worn, but it's not dirty at all. Service was okay. It was kinda slow. I usually know almost right away what I'm craving and can usually decide in minutes what I want to eat... even though I was painfully hungry I told my waitress I needed another minute which turned into 20. That only really, really bothered me because I was so hungry. Otherwise I don't really care. I ended up staying in the "safe zone" and getting a burger (because I was 50/50 with picking a burger or a burrito). EXTREMELY TASTY! I was so surprised and their ability to make a decent burger. I'm not sure what I was expecting... but it was a decent size, and it just had an original flavor to it. I paid extra to get avocado on top of the bacon and cheese and I actually got almost an entire avocado on there! That was awesome because usually you pay a bunch of money for a few dinky slices. Not here - I got me some fresh, creamy avocado. The bacon was crispy which is a plus for me, I hate fatty meat/texture. The bread almost felt like a buttered roll to me. It was soft and warm when I got it. The french fries were also fresh. I had ranch to dip them in, but I could have survived without it. Some fries can't go without dipping sauce but these can stand on their own. On another occasion I came here with my dad and I got the same burger. It was just as good as the first one. My dad got breakfast (eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, pancakes) and from what I could tell it looked delicious. He devoured it pretty fast and that pretty much speaks for itself. Anyway, the price that I paid for my meal was average and I left completely satisfied when I went the first time. I'm glad I made the decision to come here when I was so hungry. Cute, homey, wood cottage place to have a late breakfast; I had the huevos rancheros and my husband had the chorizo omelet. He really liked his dish and mine was good as well. Instead of rice and beans, I asked for hash browns instead. Only thing I would say needed to be improved was the service. While they were good about filling up my coffee, they weren't around for me to ask for more napkins or hot sauce, so I just ate my meal without the spice and made extra sure not make a mess!
