Don't miss the blackberry cobbler and ask about seasonal items, like pumpkin items in the fall. Service was prompt, friendly, and stopped by to check on us. Be aware, they pass on credit card / debit card charges to the customer, so paying cash is cheaper. The establishment was clean (floors, tables, and chairs / booths). The decorations fit the setting of West Jefferson and Appalachia: hillbilly but nice, warm, and comfortable. I enjoyed the "how to talk like a redneck" sign on the wall, among the other locally inspired decorations. We would return and recommend you check it out.

I'm not sure if we were talking with the owner or who but he made us feel welcome and gave us great recommendations. They have a lot of options plus daily specials. It was a tough choice but ultimately we landed on Smokey's single burgers. It's a touch pricey. You don't get a side with your burger so it's extra to add one but they do have a variety of side items! The burger was good. I'll say it was a little too mayo-naisey which is a lot for me to say cause I love the stuff. But it was huge and the patty was crispy. I also loved the bun! I tried my friend's curly fries and they were good. I would come back and try other items for sure! We also got to see Smokey and he's a cutie pie! I'm so glad everywhere is regrowing since Hurricane Helene and love supporting yall!

The ribs have great flavors, the pulled pork was a bit dry but still very tasty, the fried okra & bbq beans were very good, the hush puppies were excellent & the sweet tea was southern good! The only thing that lacked deliciousness was the potato salad (an easy fix for a good cook).

The number of times we have ordered to go for and the orders be wrong, shorted, items left out…read morecompletely, cooked wrong, overcharged, and various other issues is insane. I try not to complain especially for places we have always been partial to. But when an order is called in and it is plainly stated what is wanted and that the person would order something else if said item is unavailable to be tossed in the sauce and the person is reassured they have it then you expect it to be right. Tonight we had inedible fries, 3 half filled ranch cups to split between all 3 orders of fries, an appetizer of fried pickles, potato wedges, an 6 pc chicken tenders and it was reiterated that both orders needed extra ranch. The chicken was not tossed in the sauce and the sauce wasn't even provided for the chicken tenders. It's all pulled into one plate with no dividers so everything you order gets coated in whatever sides you ordered. The last few times we said we wouldn't order again but we really wanted things to be better because we used to really love it here. Out of the 5 people eating tonight nobody was satisfied and we are at work so we just have to deal with it. Truly disappointed that I have to even leave this review, but the last few times we tried to have things addressed it was met with little concern and/or "oh I'm sorry" but then repeating the same issue again. Let me edit to give credit where credit is due: Went back for correction on one of the plates and they remade it with no issues about it. I still stand by my 1 star just because this has became a consistent issue and the cost of gas running back and forth adds up. We hope maybe in the future if we give it another go then our score can increase and things will be better. We do understand being busy and things being overwhelming but if it is consistently too overwhelming to maintain quality then there may need to be adjustments made somewhere. If you do order just be sure to make sure everything is correct before you leave the best you can. Unfortunately in our situation it's usually a few people at work ordering and a 3rd party picking up

I bet the only spot in West Jefferson that gets more foot traffic than Town Tavern is the Walmart…read more Seriously, this place didn't seem to slow down during our stay in town. Anything that draws people into small towns to keep them energized is a good thing, I think. Things were a bit loud inside, and the weather was nice when we visited, so we took seats out between the sidewalk and street. The hostesses were a bit disorganized though, as they seemed to be working against one another; one cleared a table for us but then her colleague offered it to other patrons, and then the pair of staff members tried sending us to two different tables at the same time. We were able to order quickly, thankfully, but there was some delay in actually getting the food, and then we didn't see much of our waitress until it was time to pay. Was she just inattentive or was this a reflection of the staff being overworked? It's hard to say. The consensus about the food was that it was of reasonable value but only of moderate quality. The house salad was quite large but was made up largely of lettuce stalk material, and many of the other components were chopped to a miniscule level that made them relatively tasteless and undetectable. Reuben sandwiches contained a fair portion of meat and cheese but were a bit dry as only a tiny bit of dressing was present. It would seem that the draw here might be more about the adult beverages, or so it appeared amongst our neighboring tables, though none of our party chose to go that route. So on the basis of food quality alone, I'd say this is a welcome option versus fast food but certainly nothing to make a special trip for.
