    Chopped Veef Sandwich

"The Champion of Vegan Barbecue" Hands down this is my best choice for Barbecue Vegan or not. This meal consisted of the following: The pulled Veef sandwich Brussels (no pic) Sausage links Mac & Cheese The service was great, wait time was very short, no line, if you get there early and right after opening. This was my second go around and I am very much satisfied with the product. Bye-Bye! I will remain a guest here, however the journey for new vegan dishes does not end here it simply continues.

VEGAN BBQ that satisfies any BBQ craving that my vegetarian heart may desire. Houston Sauce Pit's entire menu is vegan, making it a safe haven for all vegans and vegetarians. It's a good truck not far from Hermann Park, so my partner and I love to grab our go-to meal (a sausage link plate with Mac & cheese and potato salad) then head on over to the park to enjoy a lovely picnic together! They're usually pretty quick to get your food to you once you've order. Also, I think they might've updated their Mac and cheese recipe a bit because when we ordered it last night, it was soooo much creamier than before! Which we really appreciated. Keep on being sauce-some, Houston Sauce Pit!

When in Texas what do you want to eat? BBQ! Being that I'm plant based I knew I would be having a hard time finding BBQ that I could eat but I decided to hope & pray for a miracle. I went on Yelp & Houston Sauce Pit got rave reviews and after looking at the menu I was excited to give it a try. They are located off of Almeda on the side of the street next to Turkey Hut. There was a long line when I got there but luckily enough I had already ordered online and avoided the wait. I ordered the the chopped beet sandwich, smoked wangs with Mac n cheese and potato salad. The sandwich was pretty good and had good texture. The potato salad was weird mushy to the point of mashed potatoes which is a weird consistency for potato salad. The wangs were ok I would have liked it more if it were sweet or spicy the sauce was more tangy. The Mac n cheese was ok. Overall I wasn't impressed with my vegan BBQ experience.

This is a staple for Houston vegan food. The way they smoked their "meat" is perfection. I would recommend parking on the street as they try to charge you for parking in the lot. Today was the first time I fel the customer service wasn't up to par. They were out of the swamp potato, my favorite and then we received the wrong order. I ordered the brisket mac this time and would much prefer the swamp potato or Trill nachos over them. I didn't notice it until I got home. When you go get the lemonade too!

OMG! Absolutely the best VEGAN barbecue sandwich I've ever had. THE Hubby and I finally visited after seeing them so much on social media. All vegan BBQ food truck + black owned. Mad we didn't try this place earlier especially since it's literally only 5min from home. From the posts on the social media, they sell out fast (I can definitely see why) so get there quick and early.

One of the BEST vegan food trucks I have ever had. Their mac n cheese is amazing and not like any other vegan one I have had. Their burgers are also so filling and flavorful with their special sauce - I dream of it all the time. I really want to come back to try their wings and nachos. The service is pretty quick the longest I have waited is 20 min. For parking, I usually park on the street right next to the truck (it's free). Love the music they play outside too!

PSA: if you're gonna eat here order online before you pick up your food. And by eat here I mean in your car. This is the best vegan spot in Houston by far. I've tried almost every one of them. The chicken is cool, the bone is made from some sugar cane like substance.

Hits that BBQ craving! I've wanted BBQ so bad since I became vegetarian and especially so when in Houston. This place did not disappoint! I ordered via DoorDash this time but I'll definitely be back to try some items fresh from the truck. I love that DoorDash was an option. The Brisket Mac was my favorite, but everything was amazing .

    Brussels sprouts

All the bbq flavors are definitely there and bold! The potato salad was my least favorite, more like mashed potatoes. Some of the best Brussels sprouts I've had. Overall the sandwiches were so good! Great for meat alternatives

Menu was cheaper at the truck than their online menu. So worth every penny!

Holy crap! Explosion of bbq that was missing just hit my taste buds. Being vegan, you don't get that immersive experience with "wings" anymore. As much as I don't want to eat the animal, I wanna use my hands and get dirty! This is the place. Super cute food truck which was next to a fried chicken place which has no line haha the guy was adorable and sweet and recommended items for a cheaper route to try more food. Too bad I'm passing through, this would have been my spot!

Links plate with Mac and cheese and brussel sprouts.

I attempted to wait in a long line on a Sunday afternoon. There wasn't much street parking around and I had to park in a spot in the neighbourhood where they required permits at 5pm. After a 45 minute wait and view of the debauchery that was going on at nearby bars, I had to leave the line to tend to my car. I came back on a Wednesday afternoon where there was a line of 4 people. It's expensive here, but BBQ in Houston has gotten expensive in general along with the vegan surcharge. The special, the swamped burrito was $21! They were out of many items so I ended up with the links plate with brussel sprouts and mac & 'cheese'. I took the plate back to the comfort of my own home and unlimited refills of water. Believe me, you'll need the water because the amount of salt you ingest with processed "meat" is enormous. The links had a nice peppery taste and didn't taste too salty. The mac and cheese had a strong garlic taste that compensated for the missing richness due to the lack of actual cheese. The brussel sprouts was the main culprit in terms of salt, being too salty and also too sweet. Not something I want to repeat again. My meal was good, but I had to keep drinking water afterwards for hours. The food was not something I would wait in line for though.

I finally made it to this known establishment, to check out their Menu of 100% Vegan Options. I started with the Flame Broiler Burger with Cheese, BBQ Sauce, Onions, and Pickles. All 100% Vegan. In addition, I ordered their Wangs Plate, along with fries. In my haste to take a bite, I proceeded to my vehicle. First of all... The Burger was hearty in portion. But moreover, I have NEVER tasted a Vegan Burger as GOOD as this one. There was no putrid after taste. Extremely perfectly seasoned. And the sauce on the grilled burger was as if I had exclusive rights to the secret of a grill master. On to the Wings, or as they call them Wangs. The sauce was Amazing, yet again. The taste of the wings were pretty good, to be Vegan. I will definitely be back for More of this bite of delicious delight. Good job Houston Sauce Pit.

I am so grateful for the growing list of vegan eats in Houston - from more restaurants offering options on their menus to full on vegan-only restaurants. Like I keep telling my friends: IT'S ALL HAPPENING. So when I heard about a vegan barbecue stand in the third ward, I made it a mission to check it out. The two first attempts were fails - they were either sold out + they are closed on Mondays - but finally, third time was a charm. Their menu is 100% vegan - they have "wangs," chopped 'meat' sandwiches and barbecue plates along with sides, like mac, brussels sprouts and baked beans. I haven't had barbecue in a few years, so this was such a delicious reunion with barbecue - but CRUELTY FREE. Wahoo. Extra delicious. My favorite was the 'veef' sandwich with all the fixins. The texture of the "meat" paired with their sauce - which they bottle and sell - was perfection. I also was a fan of their baked beans. It tasted just like traditional baked beans, but again, no animal products. Oh how I've missed southern baked beans. We also got the loaded mac topped with links and veef, along with the elote, which happened to be on special that day at $2.50 a cob. On this particular day, they didn't have utensils (not sure if that's the usual), so we took our food to-go; but there were some people eating their barbecue sandwiches along the street that offers some shade. Take your appetite, take your credit card, and take anyone who likes barbecue and wants to explore vegan eats. Looking forward to my next visit, likely this week. :) #blackownedbusiness

What is the meat made out of?

I think it varies depending on what you get but the smoked links are pea protein, which is my go-to. Hope this helps!

Is there a way to get delivery or contactless pickup?

Yes there is contactless pickup online

    Any gluten free/friendly options?

There aren't any except fries I'm assuming but I would check with them

You order online hosted by hot plate and pick up at your scheduled time/date at their house. I ordered it but someone else picked up around 2 hours later. You get an automated text when it's ready and you text when you're there. For special requests, you can call/text the number as well; he was pretty helpful and responsive and mentioned to my brother in law that he personally made sure everything had no alliums at pick up. As a note: my family consists of allium-free vegetarians (with one vegan) so we asked ahead of time what our options were before we went for it. He (I really should have gotten his name) gave us a list of rolls that could be made allium free and we chose from them so you could say they do have an allium free menu upon request. We pretty much got almost everything on his list. For 5 adults, we ordered a total of 10 rolls: LOW-KEY LOKI (2) CLASSIC SPICY TUNAH (2) NIKCO ROCK N ROLL SPICY MAMI, HOT TAMALE SPICY DRAGON FIRECRACKER (2) When we opened the boxes, it turns out that he included an extra roll of SPICY MAMI, HOT TAMALE as well as a small container of seaweed salad which I thought was really nice of him! Or maybe we spent too much or there's some buy 10 rolls get 1 free promotion I was unaware of, haha. It was an unexpected surprise. I also have 2 kids but one has multiple food allergies and the other one is picky. She wanted a sweet potato roll, but it's not on the menu so we rolled up some seaweed rice rolls for them ahead of time so they weren't left out. I didn't bring up my kids because we wanted to ease in with the allium free request and go from there. Plus, one of the food allergens is avocado and that was found in almost every roll. On that note, there's an option to make it gluten-free on each item's page, which is pretty awesome. There's also an option to use soy paper instead of seaweed and to add extra ingredients at additional cost. My family shared everything so my plate was a mix and I honestly lost track of what I was eating at the time for personal notes. But honestly? Everything was delicious. Sushi was the last thing I gave up before becoming vegetarian and I'm picky with the sushi I eat now. These are very good and I must say if I lived in Houston, I'd order again. I do wish there was a place to sit or picnic nearby, but this worked as well. (We all congregated at a house.) There was one roll that definitely had a kick to it. Oddly enough, SPICY MAMI was not it. My nose tends to run with spicy food and I didn't get to that point but it was close after that one spicy piece. Overall, a great experience. Our rolls were $8 to $17 each, 8 pieces per roll. It was around $27.20 per person before tips and tax/fees from hot plate ($7.35). They were nicely packed complete with edible orchid flowers, and personal cups of ginger and wasabi as well as chopsticks and soy sauce packets. We finished everything. This certainly wasn't cheap but when is sushi affordable enough to be a daily thing? I do wish there weren't service fees added on top, but I guess the platform needs support too. Delicious and something to try whether or not you're vegan. I hope to order again our next time in town. Many thanks to the chef for the excellent experience and his help!

However, the flavor of the tacos were A1. Chicken Chikn Alfredo sub Oyster Mushrooms- 7.5/10 because NO EXPLOSION OF FLAVOR. It was INSIPID. However, the noodles were cooked well, sauce was saucin' and they didn't skimp on the mushrooms in this dish. BUT they could've gave more pasta as a whole, it really wasn't much in there. Philly Steak Sub sub Oyster Mushrooms with KORNY SAUCE- 7/10. It lacked flavor AND there was barely enough mushrooms for how big the sandwich bread was. There was plenty onions and peppers which were cooked well but that's not what we were looking forward to. In addition, we couldn't even tell whether there was KORNY sauce added to it or not. Cookies and Cream Milkshake- 7/10. It was pretty good. Nothing special. Had a good consistency and flavor. German Chocolate Cake- 5.5/10. The cake itself was cooked well and really good. The icing which was coconut and something else wasn't very appetizing or appealing nor was it sweet. It was cold but we prefer our cakes room temperature. Overall, we would go back for the shroom tacos and probably try something else. They did have a very extensive menu. So I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others to try for themselves.

I will say that vibe here is some what informal however the team is super friendly and nice! Think vegan McGriddles, a vegan Big Mac, and even vegan honey butter "chicken" biscuits the creativity alone is impressive, and the execution takes it to another level. Every item we tried delivered. It's rare to find a menu this ambitious where nothing misses, but here, everything genuinely felt like a five-star experience. The flavors are bold, satisfying, and remarkably true to their traditional counterparts, without feeling like a compromise. The clear standout is the vegan McGriddle it's an absolute game-changer. Sweet, savory, perfectly balanced, and somehow incredibly close to the original, yet elevated in its own right. However they pulled it off, it works beautifully. Don't just take my word for it this is one of those places you have to experience for yourself. Your taste buds will thank you.

It's tucked away in Midtown and makes for a perfect quick stop, especially if you're about to hop on 59 or 288 south from the Webster Street ramp. I recently swung by on my way to work and grabbed an iced oatmilk flat white. It was smooth, well-balanced, and exactly what I needed to start the day. They've got plenty of other tempting options--both sweet and savory--so whether you're in the mood for a quick pastry or a full-on indulgence, they've got you covered. I've had the banana bread cinnamon roll and some of the "pop tarts" always a solid choice. Never have tried the meatless kolaches but I've heard good things in the past. Friendly staff, chill vibe, and everything is vegan. Definitely a spot that deserves more of my morning routine.

Crumbville is such a unique bakery and record shop with a beautiful atmosphere and positive vibe…read more It has an old school Third Ward feel, but also reflects a contemporary mindset. I read somewhere that the bakery is set to close soon and wanted to share a few thoughts regarding how important this bakery is, not only to my original childhood neighborhood, but the city itself. What I love: how the building looks on the outside and inside; the owner is very kind, friendly and eager to converse with visitors; and the idea that you can purchase an album by The Jungle Brothers, David Axelrod, Andre 3000, De La Soul or D'Angelo along with sweet treats from the bakery is just so cool. As a cratedigger who loves buying records, this is just so impressive to me. The great artwork hanging on the walls is another plus. A family member bought a delicious strawberry cake for my birthday a few years back, and that was my first introduction to Crumbville. The owner's decision to offer vegan and gluten free desserts was a smart decision, but she also offers regular baked goods. During my first visit recently, I purchased a strawberry cupcake, which had a lime-flavored cookie base. It was sublime and reminded me so much of the birthday cake from years ago. Service was great here. Overall, I just love this place. It makes me smile, and I will be very sad to see it go.

Yesterday, I had a hankering for a cupcake, and it was rainy so I had zero interest in going anywhere. I found that Crumbville is on the Favor app, so I figured, why not? I ordered the Blueberries & Cream Cheesecake cupcake. Wow, it was liking having a blueberry muffin, with loads of blueberries, and icing on top. It was so good!! I also ordered the Strawberries & Cream Cheesecake, Vanilla Peachy-cob-a-licious and the Chocolate Peanut Butter Snicker Crunch. All of the cupcakes are just so fresh and tasty. They are literally the best I have ever had. I fully plan on stopping in sometime to check out the location. I hear the service is amazing, and I cannot wait to find out!
