Exceptional pizza

We love Hounddogs. The pizza is exception tavern style pizza. Service can be a bit bumpy depending on the day but the servers are always so kind and friendly. It's the perfect spot for a pre-concert meal or a gathering with younger kids.

Hounddogs is still one of my favorite pizza spots in Columbus. On my last visit I went with no reservation. My date and I were still seated immediately. We ordered a large 4 cheese pizza with pepperoni and she ordered a side salad. The salad arrived quickly and was huge. Almost too big considering it wasn't the main course. But I won't really complain about having too much of something. When the pizza first arrived I thought it looked overly greasy and I was worried Hounddog's may have dropped in quality since my last visit. Thankfully I was wrong and it was just as good as ever! I will say my only complaint is they no longer offer the 3 toppings large pizza and a pitcher of beer deal for 20 bucks they used to have. That deal was great!

I've "struggled" with finding "good" pizza here in Ohioooooooo (not that I'm PICKY or anything... Just a "BIT" of a NY pizza snob!!) but I'll be the first to give credit where credit is due if I find a pizza "worthy" (ha!!) of my seal of approval, and that's just what I found during my recent visit to Hound Dog's!! Yep, I drove 50 miles approx. each way for good pizza, great company, and a real "throwback" college hangout vibe, and I'd do it again!! Specifically planning for leftovers, I ordered a 14" smoking Joe crust (mmmmm!) cheese pizza and added meatballs (very flavorful!!) and banana peppers. Went with the regular sauce, though I'd like to return and try the spicier option. I considered some of the specialty pies, but decided to keep it relatively simple. Lots of meaty options, less veg., unless you "design" your own. Others at my table enjoyed apps like stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, a LARGE side salad, and some tempting looking onion rings, but that pizza I ordered was waaaaaay more than enough for me. Two SLICES of hot, steamy deliciousness, on a perfectly crunchy, flavorful crust were more than enough for me, and my leftovers tempted me the whole way home!! I'm sure this place gets MUCH busier during "prime time" hours, but there was a pretty good crowd for an early Tuesday evening. Service was quick, prices reasonable, and if I lived closer, this just might be my cozy, hole-in-the-wall, GOOD spot for GREAT pizza (and more!!)

My search for the best Columbus pizza has led me to Hounddog's Pizza. It has been many years since I've had their pizza and so many claim it is their favorite, I just had to give it a fresh try. First off, these is some good pizza. I understand why so many like it. However, I would not rank it the best. The restaurant has a cool vibe and the space is perfect for the college crowd on campus. I also was impressed with the friendly service. However, the crust and sauce wasn't my favorite. I ordered a Hound dog thin crust pepperoni, mushroom, and black olive pie. I also tried a hand tossed pepperoni, sausage and onion pie. Both had a generous amount of fresh toppings. Both were well cooked. For most people, that's all they need. But for me, I needed more flavor in the sauce. I also had hoped for a crunchy, chewy crust. The crust is a big deal for me, so these pies didn't hit the mark. Lastly, these are expensive pizzas. $48 for two 12" pizzas is expensive. If you're hosting a party, will everyone enjoy these pizzas? Yes. Having said that, my search continues for the best pizza.

I had heard two things before going to Hounddog's: that it was a bar and that it had good pizza. I'm here to tell you it's so much more than the sum of those parts! Hounddog's is a vibe. It has all these dark, fun little booths, nooks and crannies. There is a pool table area. There is stained glass. The staff is lovely! We had our team holiday party here and it was super fun. A little loud, but good times. Pizza was super good - we had chicken bacon ranch, sausage and the one with spicy sausage and sauerkraut. All better than expected! Mozzarella sticks and cheesy bread starters were aces, too. I'd definitely go back!

Wow! What an experience! My family repeatedly has had the pleasure of enjoying great meals at Hounddogs complimented with terrific service. The Smokin Joe's crust that they make in-house daily is so good on the Hot Mama Pizza. Who would have ever thought that sauerkraut on a pizza would be so tremendous. The sauces they make and the tasty ingredients make for one heck of a pizza. I've traveled the country and enjoyed pizzas in Chicago and New York and this one tops it all. The bartender, Alaina, is so personable and makes the best drinks. Amazing how she can work that whole bar...and does it in style. Star is one of the great servers and they are absolutely delightful every time we are in. The ambiance, complimented with all the fun lighting makes for a cool experience. Thank you team for always making us feel welcome.

First time in. It's been on our list for a long time. Wow I'm glad we did. The pizza is amazing. We were torn on which one to get, so many sounded good. We asked our server Bill what he likes and he said the breakfast pizza is the best. So that's what we got. It's a huge place. Tons of tables. Big tables for groups. Pool tables. Bar. We got the breakfast pizza and the regular pepperoni and cheese. Both were very different and very delicious. The pepperoni and cheese was great cold the next day, which is one of my pizza requirements. The breakfast pizza is amazing. It's serve with warm syrup. Wow. The flavor profile is to die for. I had it in the toaster oven the next day for breakfast and it was just as good as the night before when it was fresh. Wow. The Buffalo chicken balls were SO GOOD. The loaded fries were absolutely amazing. Wow. The flavor! Can't wait to go back!!

Yum!

Super fantastic, definitely cool vibe, was in town for Sonic Temple, 2025, saw a review from Dave Portnoy, decided to check it out, definitely worth the trip, service was outstanding, very friendly and accommodating, Pizza is really good!

I've been wanting to go here for awhile because many people have mentioned it to me- it seems to be a Columbus institution. Inside decor is tavern like. Bathroom is gross. Customer service is a little crass but I did call ahead and they were okay with me scheduling a pick you up time. It wasn't ready when I arrived but at least I knew it was freshly made after waiting for a while. Pizza was fine. Not bad but not great. Very greasy. The pesto pizza was very muted on the pesto, was very tomato forward. Smoking Joes crust was good. Glad I went and will probably return if someone else is really driving that we go there, wouldn't probably select it in my own.

I've been to this spot many times over the past few years, and it is definitely simply delicious, greasy, buttery, good, good good. The likelihood of me having a tall glass of beer and having several slices of luxury pizza, and not enjoying it would be low. Quality of the pizza has been consistent. Way better than the typical Columbus pizza in my opinion. Go for the smokin Joe's crust 100% of the time. Sidenote, you like Donatos pizza, you should probably not be allowed to give pizza places rating on yelp.

We…read morespent over $80 on a to-go order that included two Gina's Gem, a big cheese pizza, and a salad. The pizza arrived cold but was still edible. Unfortunately, the Gina's Gem was nothing like what was advertised. I was expecting warm, crusty bread with a roasted cheese dip on the side so you could tear pieces of bread and dip them into the cheese. Instead, the cheese had already been spread directly onto the bread and toasted together. Because of that, the bread lost the texture you would expect--it wasn't crusty or dippable at all. It ended up soft, almost soggy, and the cheese was baked onto the bread rather than being a dip. The whole appeal of the dish was supposed to be the warm bread with the roasted cheese to dip into, and that part was completely missing. Included with the bread was a hot honey that missed the mark on being "hot" and some kind of jam. These options just made everything even more soft....which should have been impossible. The salad was actually the best part of the meal - even though it was a bit spicy. I've always had good experiences here in the past, so this was a big letdown--especially for the price. I just wish the to-go version of the dish matched how it's described, or that expectations were set correctly when ordering. Unfortunately, this experience made me lose all trust in ordering from here again. I can't believe we waited until exactly 3pm (when they opened) to order this.... At the very least the pizza should have been hot.

The kind of spot where you expect a solid beer and maybe some decent bar food. What you don't expect? One of the best Detroit-style pizzas of your life hiding behind a window in the back like some carb-based speakeasy. And when I say hidden, I mean hidden. No flashy signage. No "best pizza in town" ego. Just a quiet little window cranking out square pies that deserve a standing ovation. I ordered the classic red top -- already a bold move -- and added pesto because balance matters and I like to live a little. The result? Beyond reproach. Fresh, loaded toppings. Sauce with depth. And that crust... that beautiful Detroit crust. Crispy edges with that caramelized cheese halo, but still chewy and pillowy inside. The textural contrast is what separates amateurs from legends -- and this? This was legend-level execution. Easily top 3 Detroit-style pizzas I've had. And that's not a casual statement. If you don't understand the life-altering power of true Detroit-style pizza, I regret to inform you... you have not been living. Go find the window in the back. Trust me.
