Moved to JC from Seattle and Hound About Town was the closest pet store to have Fromm - I'm relieved and happy to have found this store! Although small, they hold a variety! A small neighborhood store that I really wanted to love but they only have a limited selection and the prices are much higher for the same items in other stores (like fussy friends). The time I visited, my pup was so happy to get a treat (as in all pet stores) but until I paid for an item, he wasnt offered a treat. Probably will stick to the other stores. read more

Update! I finally made it into this store to get my dog a new harness since her last one was too small and too tight on her. I found one that was perfect in a cute color but unfortunately in a large size. The lady working offered to see if the other location in Hamilton Park had the size we needed in stock. Luckily they did and she even made sure to text the other store to let them know to place the item on hold for us! We went during Black Friday weekend so after heading to the other location, we were informed they had 10% off so of course I picked up some treats and a new toy as well. read more

Love this place! They have a great variety of dog food and more organic style dog treats and chews. They also support local pet designers (clothing toys etc). The team recommended a chew for my pup and he hasn't stopped to breathe chewing this thing. Kept him busy for hours even at a busy restaurant! They also gave recs for cross titrating food and have a rewards program. Definitely recommend. read more

I don't even have a dog and I thought this place was pretty cool. My girlfriends' sister has a dog though...I wasn't really a fan of dogs until they got him. His name is Lucky and he's an awesome Portuguese Water Dog. Thanks to him, I look at dogs (just him really) differently. But I digress. My jaw dropped at how small the place was when I walked by it the first time. I was kinda nervous...so I did a walk by...turned around, and then came in after changing my mind about doing a 2 block lap when I got half a block away. I'm not scared of tight places or anything...this place wasn't a closet or anything...but it was a dog store and I have no dog. I walk in and the counter is directly in front of you. This girl greeted me and she was soooo chill in a Phoebe meets Rachael meets Person with good taste in music kinda way. She was droppin' the illest beats. "We Are Scientists" type beats. But I digress. I looked around after she asked me if I needed help with anything. I told her I was just looking. Nothing had price tags on it...my only gripe...I asked for a price check on one thing...it was a football...I wanted to know the prices of a few other things, but I didn't wanna be a bother. She said "It's what I'm here for ^_^" after I got the price check on the one thing...but still...for me to ask for a price check on 3+ items seemed...bothersome lol The football was $15...I'm not a pet owner, but that made me go Holy ****. I know my gf's sister gives her dog some really (really) special dog food...it's expensive, but you gotta do what you gotta do when you love someone, right? I got him a $12 ball. Did I mention how awesome he is? Sidenote: It turns out that that football is $15 everywhere I checked online. Except Amazon. Where it's $10*. *Not counting the $4.99 shipping. read more

Shop and support local! We buy our spoiled Monster Fromm's grain-free (no chicken!) and these guys always read the ingredients to verify its what we need before handing it over and selling it to us. The staff, no matter whom is manning the boutique, is friendly and loves giving Butter, our English Bulldog, a warm welcome. Since the newest man in my life uses a litter box and eats Meow Mix like it's his last meal on Earth, I figured now would be a good time to introduce him to the finer things in life. I was recommended to Hound About Town from my friend's over at 9C who are avid pet lovers. I went over on Sunday and found a hand-picked selection of dog and cat foods, treats, pet supplies and litter. None of the run-of-the-mill stuff either. Hound About Town stocks brands that are great for your pet AND they're easy on the wallet! More than anything else -- the owners know their stuff. I was so impressed with how knowledgeable and helpful the gentlemen that I don't think I'll be going anywhere else for my new man's kitty needs. A welcome addition to the Hamilton Park neighborhood. What an amazing little store with friendly staff! We as a new puppy parents entered this store with some hesitation, as we had started ordering products on Amazon(based on user ratings), but it doesn't come close to actually see what we need and still paying same reasonable price! Plus the lady there gave us a lot of ideas, and without trying to talk us into buying anything. we did get some nice toys for our pup, which has lasted for a few months now with great durability. read more

Love this shop, I have a 100lb dog who went bonkers with excitement when we went inside trying to sniff everything, eat the bones on display, and knocking over treats with his gigantic wiggly butt tail. I was so embarrassed and felt so bad, and the shopkeeper was SO nice and accommodating despite how insane my dog was acting, and even helped me open a treat bag I was purchasing to calm him down while I was checking out. She also recommended the perfect product for an allergy rash he has, we were there earlier today and he hasn't itched at all since we applied the product. They have a huge selection of dog foods, treats and toys despite how small the shop is. Given how small it is inside I may not bring my bull in a china shop dog back with me, but I am definitely going to be a forever customer! read more

Hound About Town is my favorite pet store. They sell quality products, have great prices and they truly care about your pets. If you're looking for Purina or another of the brands that can be found in a typical grocery store, don't bother. HAT is all about products that are actually good for your pets! My dog requires grain-free products due to allergies and they have the best selection including Merrick, Orijen, etc. Not only that, they carry great accessories and have a helpful, friendly staff. I love this place. It's literally a hole in the wall, but a great hole in the wall nevertheless. I think I first found out about this place through Twitter and then someone carrying a recyclable bag with their name on it, so I took these as signs that I have to go here. I came here looking for something indestructible for my chewy pit bull puppy and left with a bag of Primal raw bones, a spankin' brand new collar (and a tip on a new cupcake salon that just opened at the time!). He loves the raw bones!..hides them under his blanket and unfortunately, in my couch cushions to enjoy later. It was also here that I learned that grain free food is better for Jake's gas issues, and it is! His bomb droppings are less frequent now and I can breath again (literally). In addition, they have a great selection of treats and food and will even place an order for you if need be. read more

I love Hound About Town! - They have a great range of non-rubbishy dog foods, and plenty of fish options (which my Basset Hound loves!) - The staff are very friendly and kind, and obviously love animals - There's always a fresh dish of water out the front for thirsty hounds - They have a great range of collars and leashes. I bought an adorable little collar with a mushroom pattern for a dog we'll be adopting soon. - The prices are reasonable. - They're situated just across the road from Hamilton Park, so after some retail therapy, my Basset can go referee the dog park ;-) read more

By far the best pet store in Jersey City. They have two locations and the most friendly and helpful staff. They love dogs. Don't let size fool ya. While small, this lovely little establishment owned by a friendly local couple is my pup Roxy's fave. My husband and I could go to Petco in Union Square or Canis Minor in Newport, but they just don't have that customer service with a smile that this place does. read more

Very nice store with high quality products. All their products are made in USA. It's very expensive compared to other pet stores though. I wish they had discounts or sales so that I could buy my pet supplies from their store more often. They have the freedom harness which is amazing. I like their selection of high quality foods & harnesses, leashes. They will order special food or supplies for your dog if need be. Customer service is alright but not as great as Fussy Friends. But aside from pet supplies ; it has the friendliest, mostprofessional staff of any store. last week , before Christmas, i ran out of cat food and needed a delivery. Jose, who works at the McWilliams store, placed the rder for me. the delivery was to arrive about 7:00 pm. about 6:45 that night, my phone rang. it was jose who told me he was outside with my delivery, as the company who delivers had closed for Christmas. Jose took it upon himself to personally deliver my order. that is going beyond his job. I though iit was just wonderful for him to do that. i was very grateful. Another time when i needed a cat sitter and couldn't fjnd one, i turned to hounds about Towmn, the Mc Williams ave store, and lo and behold, they found someone for me. so in case the grocery store runs out of cat food or Chewy doesn't arrive on time, I always have hounds about jtown to help. thank you Jose.! i urge everyone to shop at this store. they care abut their customers and their pets. read more

So can I rate this in the negative!! Terrible customer service . I ask a price for dog treats and the come back is no one really cares. I'm sorry come again! What kind of customer service are you offering. I have been to this store many times in the past and bought plenty of things from. Woman it this guy! Wow! I can't believe his reaction to a customer question. After his disgusting negativity I asked why he felt the need to give me an attitude for a pretty normal question. You sell something and I ask how much it is. He decides to say well it's true most people don't care. Ok it if I care to ask how much one is over the other isn't that an appropriate question. It's the tinier of the two stores, but it always has just what I need and even though it's all high-end premium stuff it's never really expensive. I really enjoy their personalized service, I've been able to have my dog walker pick up supplies there on my behalf and have it billed and emailed to me. read more
