    Our Fam @ Houlihan's

THE GOOD ---------------- + ALLLLL of the food (for a chain) that we ordered was surprisingly delicious. ++++ Wings & Things Sampler came with Buffalo wings, Houlihan's Famous 'Shrooms and loaded potato dippers. Wings and shrooms were great, but the dippers ---- well, needed dipping sauce! Unfortunately, they forgot to give us the creamy horseradish, sour cream and blue cheese dressing and we didn't realize it was missing until we looked at the menu again. ++++ So. Cal Fish Tacos came with 2 MASSSSIVE tacos stuffed with multiple panko-breaded whitefish, chipotle mayo, napa cabbage, honey-cumin dressing. These were some of the best fish tacos we ever had! ++++ Lonestar Burger, which was new, was sooooo freakin' good. Shocked at how good this Houlihan's fresh sirloin burger was. It was cooked perfectly medium, dripping with oils/juicy and the meat just melted with each bite. ++++ Kids Cheese Burger + green beans and Kids Mac & Cheese + sweet potato fries were solid. Our kids enjoyed it, but it was what it was. + The entire menu is well-priced for 2025 and nothing is absurdly expensive. + Restaurant is relatively big with a main dining room, large bar towards the back and an upstairs space. ++++ Although the restaurant's exterior (for the entire chain) looks a bit drab, the interior was quite cozy at this location. + Food came out very quick and orders were accurate. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - Our waiter was friendly, but he failed to mention to us that the Kids meals came with juice, apple slices/Go-GURT and ice cream. We had to mention it after we had ordered. - Parking lot on an early Friday evening was almost full, but yet the restaurant had only a few customers/parties, however, there are other spaces a bit further since it's shared with a strip mall. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Nada. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Came on an early Friday evening at 6PM and most of the patrons who sat down to eat were families with young children. Definitely don't see Houlihan's being the trendy type of chain restaurant. CONCLUSION -------------------- = Although our appetizer was missing sauces and the waiter failed to mention what the Kids meals came with, I will give them a one-time pass on since everything else was really, realllly great. If it happens again though, I would definitely attribute it to a training issue.

Houlihan's on Route 4 in Paramus is always a reliable and great spot for a meal. I ordered the grilled salmon with a side salad, and it was excellent. The salmon was perfectly cooked, incredibly tasty, and fresh. The salad on the side was crisp and the perfect light pairing for the fish. The server was very friendly and he was back and forth frequently. The food came out quickly and hot, which is important at lunchtime if you're on a tight schedule. .

Stopped by the Paramus location and had a reliable and satisfying meal. The stuffed shrooms are always an absolute must-have --the perfect appetizer to start with. For the main course, I got the cheeseburger with bacon, and it was incredibly juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Great food and solid service. I will definitely be back

We've been here a few times and have had pretty good experiences but it was disappointing today, mostly because of the lack of attention, slow service and the overcooked food. Not my favorite houlihan's spot but has American fare in a casual environment. We arrived on Saturday evening and had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Not horrible but when you looked around the restaurant there were empty booths and other tables seemed to have much quicker service. The server was nice when he did come around but we only saw him a handful of times. And we had to ask to have our order and drinks taken and it took forever to get our check. The burger was ok today but everything was overcooked in the salmon with green beans except for the mashed potatoes. They have a price fix menu with appetizer, main dish and dessert which is essentially a free dessert, not a bad deal if you want one of the entrees. Join the rewards club and you can get some free items with purchase. Parking is in a shared plaza and can get full. There's an art supply store, fried chicken, etc.

    - Extremely large restaurant with multiple dining areas on the left, right, and an upper level; bar area is tucked toward the back on the right - Parking lot was full outside on a chilly and windy Friday evening, but was calm and quiet inside; no wait to be seated - Cozy and comfortable atmosphere with dim lighting; a mix of modern pop and holiday music played softly in the background - Tables and booths are generally spacious, though our booth felt tight on one side--possibly shifted by previous diners - Service was good overall; our waiter was friendly and attentive - Food exceeded our initial (somewhat low) expectations: Wings & Things Appetizer Sampler was decent--the famous 'shrooms were excellent, though we later realized all the dipping sauces were missing (boo); So. Cal Fish Tacos had two large tortillas loaded with crispy, perfectly fried and well-seasoned fish, topped with fresh, crunchy cabbage slaw--a squeeze of lime really elevated the dish; Lonestar Burger was cooked perfectly to medium, held together well, and was packed with flavor; the kiddos were happy with their Cheeseburger (two sliders) and Mac & Cheese meals--each comes with a drink, a side, apple slices or Go-Gurt, AND a scoop of ice cream - Would definitely return to try other menu items; the lunch specials also look like a good value and worth checking out

Vern is great! Always friendly, timely and responsive. We always enjoy sitting in his section and chatting with him before and after our meal. Food is always great! We're here at least once a month. Houlihan's 4 LIFE!!

We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.

We ordered a few things. Spicy Tuna Tartare: wasn't spicy, didn't taste fresh which wasn't a deterrent to me as this isn't a seafood restaurant or fine dining. Next time I'd pass on that. Bavarian Pretzel: amazing. Very tasty. Came out nice and hot. That rarebit cheese sauce? Oh honey that can come home with me anytime. Absolutely delicious. And this is coming from someone who hates that fake cheese, cheese whiz type taste. Margherita Pizza: didn't come out hot which is probably why I wasn't a fan of it. It was pretty mediocre for such a basic pizza. And the food didn't come out all together, so not sure why that didn't come out hot. Wings and waffles: Tasty buffalo wings. The waffles actually taste like funnel cake which was a nice surprise. THEN. The burger came out and that is why this review dropped. It had a small hair on the side of the plate and a closer look at the rest of the plate, you'll see a long hair on the pickle. That was disappointing but happy to have tried the place nonetheless.

For those who aren't history junkies, FDR ran on a platform calling for the repeal of the 18th amendment, Prohibition. During the Prohibition Era, speakeasies (hidden drinking establishments) popped up left and right due to the nationwide ban on alcohol sales, consumption, production, importation, and transportation. After his presidential victory, the 21st Amendment, ratified on December 5, 1933, officially repealed Prohibition. The restaurant's name is a celebration of FDR's repeal and how it impacted the American hospitality industry and economy as a whole. The interior is meant to transport customers back to the roaring twenties. Think flappers, The Great Gatsby, dim lighting, black/gold/burgundy colors, plush chairs, geometric wall patterns, vintage chandeliers, mosaic tiled floors, etc. There's four "sections" of the restaurant to dine in, each with a different vibe. *Lucy's Parlor - A hidden speakeasy named after FDR's mistress. This is my favorite space. They really went creative with the wall decor! There's black and white photos of Prohibition protests, as well as excerpts from love letters exchanged between FDR and Lucy. There's a small bar and a good amount of seating. Sophisticated, sexy vibe. *The Hide Out - A private and intimate dining space for a group of 4-6 people. You get special attention from the Executive Chef. They offer two seatings per night by reservation. *The Saloon - One of the main dining areas, complete with a large bar, high top tables, a fireplace, a vintage piano, and flat screen tvs. *The Dining Room - A formal dining area for private events and parties. It has a mahogany bar, skylights, and LED lighting. The drinks and food? Of COURSE they're on par with the theme. Most of the menu is elevated bar food, but they also have steak, pork chop, and seafood options. They have Happy Hour every day - all day on Wed & Sun and twice a day from Thursday-Saturday! DJs on the weekend. They even have a Sunday brunch! I've only had drinks, so can't speak on the food yet. I've tried... *Roosevelt Side Car (Courvoisier VSOP, Cointreau, syrup, and lemon juice with a sugared rim) $15 - Definitely a strong drink with a sour aftertaste! Not my favorite. *The Bee's Knees (Hendricks Gin, St-Germain, lemon juice, and honey topped with rose water) $15 - Refreshing, bright flavor and definitely on the sweeter side, but I loved it. Whether you want to sip on creative cocktails, book a private event, or enjoy a dinner meal, The Roosevelt is worth a visit.

I don't order from the tap often, so I wasn't familiar with the beers. Before making my decision, Server Marcos was kind enough to let me sample it to be sure I I would like it. The IPA was fantastic. It was served chilled with a bit of foam up top. There was a hint of citrus and it had a smooth taste. Unfortunately, free refills are not included with the lunch special. Smash Cheeseburger & Fries: This is a perfect lunch serving portion as it will definitely keep you full until supper time. The double patty was served on a potato roll with special sauce and toppings; it didn't disappoint. The proportion of fries could have been a bit larger, but it they were still tasty. There are several flat screen HDTVs for patrons that enjoy watching sports as they wine and dine. If you enjoy the nightlife or clubbing atmosphere, a silver disco ball is adorned at the center of the restaurant. There is a decently sized outdoor seating area, which includes one semi-circular booth. As a bonus, if you want to purchase any bottled or canned beverages to bring home, there is a liquor store conveniently attached to the pub. One round of vodka sodas arrived with an impressive commitment to soda and little else. We let the server know, and he eventually brought replacements--but left the originals behind. While waiting, eventually one of us was thirsty and drank the original, mostly out of thirst since it was mainly seltzer anyway. When the bill came, both of the drinks we complained about were still on it. Asking about the charge seemed to cause some offense. A manager appeared, planted himself at our table, and delivered a brief lecture about how much of a drink is allowed to be consumed before questioning it. It was less "customer service" and more "disciplinary hearing," complete with looming posture, hands on the table, and an authoritative tone that suggested we were the problem for noticing. I honestly can't recall another experience quite like this. If you enjoy watered-down cocktails, missed games, and being talked down to for making reasonable requests, this might be your spot. Sure enough, at 5:30 all of the apps came out and they were a big hit. Everything was fantastic. We got some large pizzas, nachos, mozzarella sticks, potstickers, and calamari. There was practically nothing left. The entree's were great and came without delay. I didn't hear a single complaint from any of the guests. I'd be remiss if I didn't talk about our waiter for the night, Alan. I don't think I've ever seen someone be so on top of things before. He handled the whole room essentially by himself and somehow it never seemed like there was a single hiccup the whole night. He was beyond excellent. He was such a good communicator and kept me in the loop with timelines and was overall very organized. He played a significant role in the night going as well as it did. My whole family, and most importantly my mom, had such a wonderful night. And I have Bob, Alan, and the rest of the staff to thank for that.

People working there that are super friendly and engaging with customers and seem like they really understand beer and are excited about it. Most importantly: a killer taplist with an astounding 21 beers, one NA beer, and one seltzer. No two beers alike and all of them inventive and delicious. For me the real standout was the Politics and Religion, a DIPA with milk sugar and coconut and sabro hops. This is just a quintessential NJ brewery. My girlfriend and I have been to a lot of NJ breweries over the years, and we feel confident ranking this one high on the list. We visited on a Sunday afternoon in February and whiled away the hours watching Winter Olympics with the staff and other patrons. The only downside is parking. There are about five parking spots out front. If you're not lucky enough to grab one of them, and especially if they have a special event going on, you'll have to demolition derby your way into a parking space amongst the maze of narrow streets that surround the brewery. This place just passed their 7th anniversary and will undoubtedly be around for many years to come. We live far away but can't wait to come back someday.

There is a parking lot down the road where you can park and walk it's maybe a 2minute walk and way easier to park. They had a food vendor outside with kebabs and a birthday party ongoing so it was definitely packed. We opted to sit inside as it was hazy outside and a bit too humid for liking. When trying to go inside it seemed there was a large group at the end of the bar which in turn was blocking the entrance. And they didn't seem to move when the door was opened. When ordering my boyfriend ordered their oh the pain DIPA and he really liked it. I struggled to find something as they didn't have any sours on tap. So I went with the Sanguine which was supposed to be their blood orange wheat beer. It was drinkable but definitely not something I'd get again. Was definitely surprised when I asked if they had anything non alcoholic and the bartender said no. Glad we were able to try this brewery but probably would not come back.
