Located in a warehouse with an eclectic mix of furnishings and decorations that make it feel like you're back in your dorm room from college. People working there that are super friendly and engaging with customers and seem like they really understand beer and are excited about it. Most importantly: a killer taplist with an astounding 21 beers, one NA beer, and one seltzer. No two beers alike and all of them inventive and delicious. For me the real standout was the Politics and Religion, a DIPA with milk sugar and coconut and sabro hops. This is just a quintessential NJ brewery. My girlfriend and I have been to a lot of NJ breweries over the years, and we feel confident ranking this one high on the list. We visited on a Sunday afternoon in February and whiled away the hours watching Winter Olympics with the staff and other patrons. The only downside is parking. There are about five parking spots out front. If you're not lucky enough to grab one of them, and especially if they have a special event going on, you'll have to demolition derby your way into a parking space amongst the maze of narrow streets that surround the brewery. This place just passed their 7th anniversary and will undoubtedly be around for many years to come. We live far away but can't wait to come back someday. read more

We drove right by this brewery as it is wedged in between two other businesses and they don't have much parking as they added additional seating outside. There is a parking lot down the road where you can park and walk it's maybe a 2minute walk and way easier to park. They had a food vendor outside with kebabs and a birthday party ongoing so it was definitely packed. We opted to sit inside as it was hazy outside and a bit too humid for liking. When trying to go inside it seemed there was a large group at the end of the bar which in turn was blocking the entrance. And they didn't seem to move when the door was opened. When ordering my boyfriend ordered their oh the pain DIPA and he really liked it. I struggled to find something as they didn't have any sours on tap. So I went with the Sanguine which was supposed to be their blood orange wheat beer. It was drinkable but definitely not something I'd get again. Was definitely surprised when I asked if they had anything non alcoholic and the bartender said no. Glad we were able to try this brewery but probably would not come back. read more

We love a brewery with a nice variety of beers and Hackensack does it very well and we especially enjoyed the Wetlands wheat beer. The indoor space is industrial with string lights and artwork, along with an outdoor patio that is host to pop-up food trucks. We met some cool patrons and staff and it is a very welcoming environment. We stopped by on a rainy Saturday afternoon to celebrate a friends birthday. It took a few minutes to locate the place as the warehouse is a shared driveway in the back, hiding behind other buildings. Inside we walked in to a decent size area with stand up tables. On the far end is a long bar with plethora of beer choices. I tried the musket haze and it was very good hazy ipa. Like all NJ brewery's you can bring your own food which is a plus. Dogs and children also are welcome inside. Be warned it was quite busy with little breathing room , but in the summer time they have an area in the parking lot cornered up where you can drink outside. First timer, found out about the brewery from the Yard House in the American Dream Mall. Waitress suggested my table to sample it. We were blown away. The coconut blonde Ale was so refreshing and delicious. I had to buy it. My co workers would like me to get them some as well. I found it the brewery. it was a bit tricky. I was determined. It's a very chill cool hangout spot. I would have stayed but it was late. It would have been dangerous if I did. The bartender asked if I tried the vanilla flavor and I have not. Thrilled to visit yet another brewery in Hackesack NJ. I enjoyed it immensely compared to a negative experience at a recently opened brewery 8 miles to the north. Very sociable and knowledgeable beer tenders are the key to a successful brewery. If a customer tells me "I come for the atmosphere" and knows nothing about the beer, I'm out! Sorry to report I was not impressed here. Beers with seasonal flavors weren't great, and the others were pretty average. I will admit it is cool inside for hanging out, but getting to the place is tough. It's behind a headstone company with no lit up signage, so even seeing their sign was hard in the dark. Place has changed mucho since its opening years ago. Used to be a nice brewery with art displays on the wall. Now the only art is the graffiti ridden walls in the bathrooms. Place turns into a club rather than a brewery on Friday night. This Friday night they had a food truck parked smack in the middle of their outside biergarten, taking up the majority of the outside space, and subjecting the other tables to generator gas fumes. My first time at Hackensack Brewing and highly recommend it. The tap team really knows their brew and is friendly. The atmosphere in in an old warehouse, but has that cool brewery style to it. The brew - excellent. I started with a "Parking Lot Pilz: - great flavor, it is light and smooth and is a pilsner to quench your thirst on a hot day. My buddy did an "On the Pain". I think this may be the hoppiest bear I have ever had. It is green with hops. I am a hops guy, and it was delicious. It's think and almost green in color. I will say - you need to be a heavy into hops person for this one. If you are, then go for it. It is an incredible creation. I had a second brew, this time switching to "Beach Badge", which is sold as an American Lager. It is an excellent blend with forward hops. It is the peerfect brew if you are a beer drinker who goes between IPAs and light brews depending the your taste. My final thought: I will be back and if you are in the Hackensack area, I highly recommend stopping in! read more

This was a fun place to hang with some friends and drink some craft beer. The beer itself here was very good. I started out trying a beer flight of 4 different brews they had on tap. Im a big IPA beer fan, so I started out by trying alot of these types; and I must say they were great. Everything was brewed perfectly. Hackensack Comet was my favorite one of the bunch. The west cost ipa style and citrus flavors was the perfect combo. This was so good that I ordered a tall glass of it afterwards. This brewery is pretty spacious and has some parking. Even the merch looked cool. But goddamn the beers are bad. Like. Bad. Like have all these descriptions and then taste like coors light. Some smelled like they have flavor and then nope. Gotcha. We all had the first round all having different beers and no one was really sold on having a second round but we figured we'd just all try another beer making it like 8 total or something? Yea, we all had some and just left most of the second round because no one really wanted to finish 'em. It's sad right? Everything else going great but the one main issue is like the main reason the place exists? lol flavorless. Tasteless. Bitter? Idk. We stopped at Hackensack Brewing to pick up some beers to-go and were lucky that we were able to find a parking spot in their rather small and tight lot. We purchased a 4-pack of their Rapid Eye Movement double IPA, which possessed an abundance of hops and a robust flavor. There were subtle hints of citrus (particularly mandarians) and pine. I also took advantage of being able to buy a single can and selected the Hula Skirt, their playful, seasonal coconut blonde ale. I simply loved the light texture and toasted coconut flavor, both making the brew easy to drink and extremely refreshing. It was also the perfect compliment to my Indian food dinner. From a takeout perspective, Hackensack Brewing was a fabulous destination, offering a variety of interesting beers and purchasing options. read more

Hackensack Brewing is a welcome addition to densely populated, yet relatively brewery sparse North Jersey. Sometimes I wonder why South Jersey has more breweries than the northern part of the state. I think it's just because space is so much more expensive here. Hackensack Brewing had really been needed, so it's nice to see them open. They have lots of IPA's and lagers. The beers are still relatively new, but give them time, and they'll become outstanding. The interior space is industrial, cozy, and fun. There isn't too much parking available (again this is North Jersey). But you can park near the Alementary Brewery, which is walking distance away and hit them both. We noticed that a lot of the patrons were going to both. Although it is North Jersey, which is normally standoffish and snobby, I found the crowd there to be a lot more blue collar and friendly than you'd expect. The staff was very helpful, too. read more

Hackensack brewing is a hidden gem! I've been coming here since they opened and they never disappoint. I even had my husbands 30th birthday here a few years back and it was perfect. From the awesome brews to chill atmosphere and the friendly staff Hackensack brewing us always a fun place to be. Great experience at Hackensack Brewing earlier this weekend. Finding the place was a bit of challenge. Though the address is on Johnson Avenue, there is no actual storefront on JOhnson Avenue. On Johnson Avenue, you will essentially see a sign indicating where the "78" buiding is. You then follow a long driveway for about 100' or so to the brewery. You will see a tent and some outdoor seating along with their logo on the building. There are lots of seats both inside and out. The outdoor tent has a few picnic tables. I did see people bring in pizza and other food, so I believe that is allowed. The main bar area, has some seats along with some cool decor. When you visit, please take some time to walk around and read/look at everything. There are some really great art work on the wall, along with other merch for sale along the back wall. I even noticed a book shelf off to the side.They had a great beer selection on tap and the pour prices were very reasonable. There is also a refrigerator off to the side if you want to purchase cans or bottles, either to drink there, or take home. All bartenders were very nice and helpful, offering recommendations when requested. The vibe there was very relaxing. There was adequate space there to distance if you wanted to. Masks were optional and the seating was distanced accordingly as of this writing. Keep in mind that this experience was on a Saturday about 3 PM and I'd expect the crowds to increase later in the day. read more

I'm a proponent of local breweries and this place didn't disappoint. It's a bit hard to find since it's surrounded by warehouses. The beers are great and I like the selection in not only types but sizes. If you are not into games(board or electronic) you might be put off but all the games they have set up. There is no food, so I recommend getting dinner first. read more

One recommendation though is to consider serving at least one non-alcoholic drink besides water set up in the vestibule and heated up by the sun. Loved this place!! Such a great selection of beers. I enjoyed every single one. My favorite were definitely the fairmount and the duke. I just HAD to purchase a four pack of each to take home. Cans are pricey but totally worth it. You're getting quality beer. The employees were very hospitable and had great recommendations depending on your palate. It was a little hard to find but worth it! It was pretty busy and after trying the beer I see why! We each tried an ipa, a lager ( I think I can't remember what my boyfriend said it was lol) and an AMAZING coffee beer. I still can't get over that one , it had the exact flavor of a fresh cup of coffee with cream and sugar! Outstanding! I highly suggest this spot. Went here cause I heard about a promotion they had. After enjoying the promotion special, stayed and enjoyed the place altogether. It's mainly an outdoor spot so for the spring and summertime, this is perfect. Many different beers to enjoy from and the good is also great. On top of that, the staff was so accommodating not only with their beer recommendations, but they would also sit and have conversations with you as well.
