Raise your hand if you remember when Mason's was a few blocks down, inside of a converted bank - where they'd have cool special events (like wine tastings) taking place in the old vaults from time to time. The odd thing about the current location: as you walk in it seems like a lot of the shelves are kind of empty ("Hey, maybe they're going out of business?") but then you start to take a slow stroll down the aisles and realize they have a ridiculous amount of (quality) stuff. Beers, wines, and liqueurs that you probably haven't seen or heard of before. The pricing is on par for competing liquor stores. They have a (awkward) parking lot which can be a lifesaver in this part of town. If you forced me to Sophie's Choice I'd say Rutherford Wine Shoppe is the overall better place (I mean... Mason's opening an hour later than RWS is the sole reason I don't get over this way that much) but Mason's is a damn fine spot for sure. Na zdrowie! read more

It's an okay place. Good prices on beers, but they are not consistent with their inventories of beers. The fridges have been quite empty lately. One time asked the male owner if he had more of a certain beer and he replied "I don't think so" and left it at that. His wife knew that was the wrong answer, got up and checked in the Fridge and came out with a four pack. The helpers they have are the same way. If you can't find it, they will not check for you. Nice place, convenient to the BYOs in the neighborhood. I was greeted by a super friendly girl behind the plexiglass at the counter who immediately pulled her mask up as soon as I walked in.( Bonus points) It doesn't seem like a big store but once I started browsing the aisles I was impressed by the variety. Downside: the prices are noticeably higher than what I'm used to paying at Clifton Commons. Hey, ya wanna live in Rutherford, this is how they roll. I reviewed Mason's Cellar when it was at its old location on the main street of Rutherford. They moved (awhile ago) to a side street but it's the same great local spot to find some good booze! They have helped me keep my sanity during this crazy year of 2020. First off, they have a huge selection of both liquor and beer. I've found many new beers that I've enjoyed. They have a spot where you can create your own six pack (which I always appreciate) and they have beer all over their store. I found a chocolate stout beer which I love, and they even had a few Bolero Snort 4-packs of Leaf Cattle Battle, which has been sold out from the brewery, so you better believe I grabbed two of those delicious 4-packs. I also found Crook and Marker there for a friend, which I had trouble finding. I try to do all my alcoholic shopping at Mason's Cellar. They have a great selection and great customer service. Really cute wine shop (other alcohol too). We just go here to grab wine. Staff are always friendly and the store has great options. They also have random tastings which are fun. It's only a stair entrance so if you need access otherwise you'll need to ask them. read more

Was so happy to see they reopened a few months ago after moving to a new space. The store looks amazing but the beer selection has gone down in both quality and quantity. I used to drive from Kearny to Rutherford at least every other week to see what new stuff they had, now it is a smaller selection of good breweries and fewer beers from said breweries. I'll still stop in if I am in the area but will stick closer to home for my regular stop now. read more
