Since starting with Donnie, I've been redefining my relationship with health and fitness & he has played a huge role in that. I've always played sports at a high-level since elementary, and became entirely burned out after playing varsity basketball all four years of high school & travel ball. After graduating, I hated playing and refused to go to the gym since I no longer "required" to go. Since 2011, I've had my short spurts of working out, but nothing stuck because I still despised working out. It wasn't fun. About 3 months ago, I was the heaviest I've ever been at 165 pounds (was consistently 130 pounds prior). That's when I contacted Donnie with my goal of dropping to 145 & overall just wanting to feel better. Fast forward to now: my association with fitness has become immensely more positive (joined a gym to play basketball, am learning to breakdance, look forward to group fitness classes, and am generally more active on a day-to-day basis), my strength has increased & gained muscle, I have a better idea of nutrition goals, and have lost about 5 pounds. I'm looking forward to seeing my results by the end of 2021 & am motivated to make these changes a new lifestyle, while continuing to have fun learning new fitness styles and physical activities!

We all have different goals, yet he's super patient, positive, and effective with each of us. (For example, I didn't want to take comparison photos or do regular weigh ins because of my own psych needs, and he's been totally supportive of that.) All the trainees are also super supportive of each other. It's only gotten better since his rebrand as Torq and relocation to 1420 E Sprague. Donnie and this community are one of my favorite parts of my new life here. What to expect: small group training of 2-6 people, a cool app that helps you track your nutrition and fitness goals, and a trainer who's always on your side. The price is good, but for the same price and more facilities, you can go to Spokane Fitness Center or MUV. Their employees are almost always on their phone which I get, its boring, but at least be available for help. I've seen people waiting at the desk for a good 10 min while they're walking around on their phone. I eventually had to leave because I saw one of the blonde girls that wears a gallon of make up that works there doing some kind of shady deal with money outside the gym as I was leaving and she would bring her kid in and he'd run around the weights area while I'm power lifting. I'm not trying to have a kid run around me while I'm lifting. To top the experience off I went to cancel my membership, I cancelled it and they cancelled it on their end, but then restarted billing me out of nowhere a month after my membership was cancelled and the manager, Randy, wouldn't refund the $100 I got charged for those months even though it was a fault on their part when I just found out about it. Save the headache, go somewhere that's more professional and puts their gym goers first.

I have been trying to get into yoga for years and have never found a space I enjoy. The Mat is the first studio where I want to go back. The floors are great for me because they are covered in a firm mat. This way the floors a firm enough to support you through poses, but give a little to help my knees and other sensitive areas like my tail bone. The studio has accessories like blocks and straps available so that you don't need to bring them. The cleaning solution smells wonderful, like eucalyptus, so the studio smells more like a spa and less like a gym. They have multiple classes including restorative, power, and intro to yoga. The studio offers "hot yoga", but not Bikhram hot. This is great because it keeps my muscles warm without making me sick with heat. It is a small studio, so the instructors are able to give each student personal attention. The instructors watch your form, and help motivate you to move on to the next level when you are ready. They also support beginners and those of us with strength or flexibility limitations with the modified poses and remind the class that yoga is a personal practice, not a competition. This studio is great for all levels, and the different classes allow you to relax or get a butt kicking workout. The students are all very friendly as well, and I don't not feel judged. It is a welcoming environment and I actually enjoy yoga finally.

From the start, Louise struck the perfect balance--she challenged me without pushing too hard and made sure every session felt worthwhile. She is very attuned to who you are as an individual. At the end of each class you really feel like you got a great workout, but during the class it's fun and calming and feels like just hanging out with a friend. She is very good at helping you to focus on your strengths while also being open to making adjustments for each individual. I also love the music that she plays. It's unbelievable that is what's required nowadays and how easily it is for people to get taken advantage of. 2 years ago I became pregnant and needed to cancel our membership. Have not stepped foot in hotworx since, 2 years later they are claiming we never canceled and started charging on March to my moms debit account for what is shown as the first time according to her bank so she was finally able to notice. We are not sure what other payments were involved previous to this. She was continuously charged Months of due payments for me and my husbands supposedly canceled account, also in her confusion as an also many years cancelled connected account to ours. she called and was told we did not "confirm" our cancelation. We were under one account, and they said we were individuals. Regardless we all went in and cancelled, I don't know how their end looks. if you have a similar situation, get every proof you can of cancellation for every member under the paid account. Take photos and names. We enjoyed going to this establishment, and it's sad to even have to put up this review because the way they handled the situation I have never experienced anywhere in my life. They claim that there was no written agreement of the cancelation. Even though during that time my husband and I went in to the location together knowing the need to confirm cancelation, we signed, and yet that wasn't enough. Because somehow even after signing, being told of confirmed cancelation 2 years ago, there would still be a chance that they would charge us for years of service. Here is a photo of no communication until 2 years later about some payment not coming through. I have screenshotted this round of cancellation and taken note of the name of the General Manager Sara Mentel. Hope this is enough confirmation for them, as due to their policy it is our fault for their mistake.
