I've eaten, Hot Stone several times now with months in between. I would say they were always fantastic and have gotten even better. The lady was so incredibly sweet and attentive and a good sense of humor. We had some good laughs and some even better food. It was a quiet Tuesday evening and it was just what we needed. We had the Budae Jigae which is ramen with, spam, bacon, hot dogs, and tofu. It was incredible and my go-to. We also added the, Chicken Bulgigi and I can't for the life of me remember the appetizer but it was spicy and awesome and also a sticky rice soup of some sort. I know the rating for Hotstone isn't spectacular but they're getting stronger. It's authentic, comforting, and full of flavor. Can't recommend them enough. read more

Hot stone is THE BEST! The food was delicious and really lived up to its name. It stayed hot the whole meal! We went on a weeknight and were one of the only people in there, and the server was incredible. She took great care of us and provided us more fermented potatoes to add into our bowls. Delightful restaurant. I had the bulgogi beef Bibimbap and added an egg on top of it. The rice on the bottom crisps on the hot stone bowl. Break the egg and it gets gooey among the rice. There's potatoes and vegetables to add to the bowl and they ask if you want more. I wish there was an add on sauce of some kind I could put with it. That's my only very minor complaint. We ordered bibimbap with beef, mixed tofu soup/bulgogi combo. Every dish comes with side dishes (banchan). The owner was very nice and friendly! She refilled our side dishes when we told her they were very yummy. Bibimbap: Super colorful with a variety of veggies. Really flavorful! The gochujang that comes with bibimbap was not too spicy. Tofu soup: since we got a mix of seafood and meat, the soup had an adequate amount of both. The tofu was very soft and easy to eat. I did wish the soup had more flavor, though. I think you can ask for the spicy level of your choice. We didn't ask so got a default level which was a tad mild for me. Bulgogi: the meat was very tender and had a good mix of onions! The dish was very flavorful, on the sweeter side. I loved it! Banchans: There were 5 different banchans. Our favorite was the cucumber! Yumm! Looked over the menu, not too fond of tofu...eventually ended up ordering a Bulgogi Bi Bim Bap (aka a bulgogi bowl) and a Spicy Pork one as well. We were served hot tea and five different banchan with our food. I only cared for the cucumbers and the cabbage kimchi. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant had people coming and going but not super busy. Prices are a little high--which bulgogi is pretty expensive these days, but I honestly was still kind of hungry leaving here. Today we decided to try a different Korean restaurant rather than our usual one, as we were going about our errands. We sat down and checked out the menu. I ordered A4, the Dduk Bokki, which I've never tried before. The menu lists it as "stir fried rice cake w/beef, vegetables, and hot pepper". When I got it, it came in a boiling hot ceramic bowl. Looking forward to this delicious meal, I began to dig in. However, I was surprised to find there was almost zero beef in the meal. I picked and dug around for the beef, but in the entire bowl, only found a few meager and tiny (very tiny) bits. I called over the server to complain about the lack of beef, and he said that's how it just comes. I was pretty upset and asked why even mention the beef in the description when there is almost zero beef in it. I told him I didn't want this because it was misleading. He asked if I wanted to speak to the cook about it, and I said yes. When he came over, he was immediate confrontational! I complained about how the description was misleading, and that I didn't want to pay for it. Well, he got very angry and yelled and said that's how it comes! And would not cancel the order. I was going to walk out and not pay, but my friend insisted we just take it home and she'd have it. Anyway, the cook was extremely rude and unprofessional. I'll never go back there again. Here is a picture of the pathetic excuse for their idea of beef in the food. I'm not kidding! That's about all there was! Note: The server was very kind and understanding. When we walked in, it didn't look like anything special in terms of ambiance, but it definitely did not look like a place we should flat out avoid. There were a few people seated at their tables, and, as we sat down, we were approached by an employee who provided us with average service. That was nothing to complain about. We ordered a few dishes including their bibimbap. Overall, the prices were not terrible, but the food was pretty average. This place was really good! We were the only customers there and the food came out shortly after (~20 minutes). We ordered: - Korean fried chicken - C.1. Bulgogi beef and tofu soup (beef)(Combo) - Dduk bokki We liked the dduk bokki/tteok-bokki and Korean fried chicken, they were SO good. Large portions so we had to take them home. The Korean fried chicken came with about 6-8 wings and they weren't spicey at all. They were sweet, savory, and crispy. The dduk bokki was slightly spicey but definitely bearable. C.1 (Combo meal) was ok, even though the price for two sounded better than just ordering bulgogi, we should've done that instead as the tofu soup was lacking flavor. Also, the only side dishes we enjoyed were the cucumber and the kimchi. All of the sides were vegetables unfortunately. Our total came to about $60-66. I absolutely adore Korean food- as in well rounded, varied, traditional, robust menus that exemplify the kaleidoscope of Korean fare. My partner though prefers Korean food in the form of AYCE Korean bbq. Suffice to say, I was very excited to try this spot in Olympia! The everything was delightful and came out with surprising speed! The banchan wasn't as impressive as it probably could be, especially compared to other spots in California we have been, but it didn't matter because we were too busy with our entrees. Our general "family style" order has always been a meat fish, a starch, and a vegetable. We went off course a little bit by ordering the beef bulgogi, fried rice, and tofu soup with dumplings. Usually I'm a big ole carbo gal with my sights set on the rice and noodles, but I'd leave them all behind to slurp that tofu soup every day. Hotstone is located in downtown Olympia and is across the street from the Kizuki Izakaya. Got there on a busy Friday night and the limited staff was still able to get us seated, take our order, and serve our food within 20 minutes. This place was popular for a Friday night, lots of other diners were already enjoying their meals. We ordered the spicy pork bulgogi and japchae noodles. Like most Korean restaurants, the meal comes with banchan- assorted sides such as kimchee, bean sprouts, and pickled veggies. The spicy pork bulgogi was served on a sizzling platter with a side of rice. I really like that the japchae comes with your choice of meat- chicken, beef, or pork. The menu includes a variety of appetizers, bibimbap, soups, and bulgogi. We didn't see any beer or liquor on the menu but they do offer soft drinks and boba tea. Everything was delicious with a good amount to take home. Looking forward to ordering more on the menu. FYI-They're closed on Sundays and only street parking available. read more
