This is a great historic hotel. Was able to receive a tour from the owner. Beautiful location, great food and service.

Thank you Hotel Sutter! From the event coordinator who was very patient, professional and attentive to our wishes, to the entire hotel staff who worked very hard to ensure the utmost perfection for our events, to the spectacular food choices and presentations, Hotel Sutter comes highly recommended for special occasions. read more

I have to admit I was disappointed with this place. Right from the get go, the waitress told us that they were out of a couple items on the menu. One of them was mussels, I think. I don't remember what the other item was. My mom tried to order a beer from their menu and was informed they do not serve that anymore. So she chose sangria instead. My step father tried to order a different beer from their menu and was also told they no longer serve that. They should update their menu if they are no longer offering multiple items on it. My mom ordered the eggplant parmesan stack. Well about 20 minutes after our order was placed the waitress came out to let my mom know that they are out of mozzarella cheese and asked if ricotta would be OK instead. My mom said yes, that's fine, because she is nice and because she didn't want all of us to have to wait a long time to get our food since our order was placed 20 minutes prior finding it they were out of mozzarella cheese. I ordered the mac and cheese and was really disappointed with it as well. It had this strange after taste. I could hardly eat any of it. This place really is not worth the money. No one at our table was impressed by this place. I'm trying the pizza place next time for sure! read more

Nice convenient location (gained a star) when staying in Sutter Creek. Pleasant ambiance in a charming old hotel. Food and service is fine but uninspired. Good wine selection. Ho hum, back to the B&B. read more

Very nice room, clean and updated. We had one of the larger King rooms. We were right next to the elevator and some reviews commented on that. I didnt find it disturbing at all and it wasn't very noisy although you knew what it was. I would say the only thing and it wasn't that big of a deal to me was the very nice front office person said that continental breakfast started at 7. I was the only one down there at 7:15 and there was coffee available but nothing else. The front desk girl arrived shortly after and said the cook was running late. Which happens so I cant judge on that. I was a bit disappointed tho as I was looking for something to go with my coffee! Im not sure if there are any other places open for breakfast in town whick makes it attractive to have some sort of meal available at the hotel. All in all this is a very nice Hotel to stay at. It was great sitting on the balcony sipping our wine, very enjoyable! read more

Not impressed at all. We were seated promptly by very friendly staff. The vibe was good and the bar full of life we thought we might be in for a treat. Our water arrived almost immediately and our friendly waiter arrived quickly to get our drink order. That's when things started to go south. We had to wait too long to get our drinks. So much so that our waiter stopped by twice to inform us they oils be there soon? We ordered an appetizer, which didn't take too long, but our dinner order took forever. Again our waiter kept checking in to say it wouldn't be much longer. We had a concert to get to so we asked how much longer. Not much, was the answer. When our food came, I was very disappointed. My steak was literally raw in the middle and barely warm, my mashed potatoes were Luke warm to cook and dry, our dinner companions dinner was similar to worse . It took an hour and a half to get cold food. We won't be back. I honestly felt bad for the staff, they had to do damage control and apologies all night long read more

All in all our experience was pleasant. Not great, not bad. I ordered a manhattan, and it was not very good. Whomever the bartender is, needs to be either talked too or retrained. Service was meh. Food however was pretty good. Was in and out within 1 hour, so for all you folks complaining about they take forever, I say you're full of $h!t and don't be such pompous jerks, and relax. read more

Went in on Mother's Day for dinner. Nobody in the restaurant. Bar seems to do a good business. Our meal was expensive and underwhelming. Steaks were not cooked correctly, very, very rare. So much sauce that sending it back was not an option. Would have rather cooked my own meal at home. Would have tasted better and been cheaper. This is the 3rd time I have given them a chance. Not coming back. Good luck!!! read more

This only gets two stars because the hotel is beautiful and our waitress tried to make it right. The food is way over priced. The girl at the front desk acted like us asking for a table was an inconvenience to her life. She told us 15 min... We waited 40. Just say 40 min. Why is that hard? We ordered everything at once because we had been waiting 40 min and knew what we wanted. We had to ask twice to get our wine after our Brussels sprouts arrived(they were really good) next we had salads and the dressing on the wedge salad was like mayonnaise with seasoning, so gross. I had to scrape it off add some more blue cheese and make due because they were also short staffed and I didn't want to wait half an hour for a different salad. Next the salmon.... It was just not good... So dry. The waitress tried to get us everything we wanted but the service was painfully slow. Points to the waitress, she tried; points for the Brussels sprouts. The rest was not worth a second try. read more

Had lunch on the balcony yesterday with my sweetie, I have eaten here before and enjoyed my meal. My husband had the prime rib dip and he thought it was good. I had a crab and shrimp Louie salad for $17 , I was so disappointed. The fish was fresh but iceberg lettuce, tasteless tomatoes , 3 small slivers of avocado and a deviled egg -just a decoration. We live in farm to fork area some butter lettuce and heirloom tomatoes would have helped. The chef needs to go to Magpie Cafe and have a Shrimp Louie for some inspiration! I will probably try another place next time I am in Sutter Creek ;( read more

We celebrated our anniversary there! Nice experience. The cheese plate is huge, a meal in itself! Sutter Creek is a great place to visit and the food is great. read more

I honestly want this place to be good! I have given it way too many chances, about 20, and I'd say 90% have been completely disappointing. The service is the number one problem. It takes on average about 10 minutes after getting sat to be addressed or greeted by a worker, it takes around 30 minutes to get your drink once ordered, and once your food arrives you are thoroughly disappointed. I once got raw, literally rare, chicken on my ceasar salad and the waitress asked if I wanted a new one once I pointed it out. No apology. I once sat through an entire dinner listening to the table behind me complaining about their meal the whole time and telling the waiter to no avail. The cancelled their drinks after waiting until after their dinner arrived. This building is awesome, location awesome, balcony awesome... but they have a lot of work to do to find employees and management that make this place worth your while. When reading this review, take into account that I have tried almost everything on this menu and have still come to this conclusion. read more

My wife and I had a nice dinner here while camping in the area and wine tasting in the region. The dinning room fills up quickly so reservations are recommended/required most weekends. The menu is broad with entrees in the 20 - $40 range. Crab cake appetizer was creative with lemon and a fig condiment. My wife had the rib-eye for which they are known. It was good but not great. Flavorful but parts were a bit tough. I had the prawn special that was good but not great and on the smaller size (6 prawns). The flour-less decadent chocolate torte for desert was good but slightly dry. Wines were ok but not superb. Overall a good meal but not quite as excellent as expected for $100. read more

The worst burgers ...overlooked, dry, and a stale bun...ordered med rare and came very well done and dry. Service was so slow - took almost 2 hours to order, get served and eat burgers ....they were out of 4 desserts as well as a few entrees at 6 pm --- our B&B warned us not to go--we should have listened..... read more

We made a 7 pm reservation and arrived at 7. We were told that there were no tables available and we were sent down to the downstairs bar. 7:30 came and we sent a person from our party to check on the reservation. That person returned and they were not ready for our party of four. After spending $40 dollars in the bar and the clock struck 8 pm, my party of four went up to the restaurant to find out what was taking so long. We were told that our table was ready, even though the restaurant was 1/10 full. After be seated, we waited over 10 minutes before the waitress came to take our orders. She apologized for the long wait and blamed it on Christmas parties. Other than that, the meal was good. read more

We ate at the Sutter Creek Restaurant on Saturday night. We were pleased to have the same server, Shelby Rae from our previous visit. Shelby Rae was spot on with her attentiveness and suggestions from the menu. Food was delicious. Service even better! read more

Nice place, good food, but not worth the cost. Some of the best service we have had in the Amador area. Unfortunately, we will not return. 40 dollars for a 2 hamburger lunch and no alcohol is just too much. read more

We didn't stay at the hotel, this review is just for the restaurant. The only reason it gets two stars is for the service. Kaylee was our server and she was great. When we told her that our appetizer of artichoke hearts had calamari (which I despise) mixed in with it, she took it back right away and brought out a plate of only artichokes. She was very apologetic. Then we received our burgers. Mine was the Cubana. It had three ingredients on it along with the hamburger patty. Ham, cheese and pickles. The ham was missing. My friend's burger was missing bacon. So we asked Kaylee to have them corrected and about 10 minutes later we get them back. Mine came back with three little round pieces of cheap ham looking meat. Like a lunchmeat you'd buy at a closeout store. Not even warmed, and for sure didn't taste like ham. The idea of a Cuban sandwich is that it's all melted together, and pressed. The only thing pressed was the bread. My friend's came back with bacon but the bun was absolutely dry, the BBQ sauce was omitted this time. And to make it even worse, they put back the same hamburger patties we had already bitten out of. So they were cold and didn't match the replaced buns. It was just odd that the whole burger wasn't re-made. Our server felt so bad and we told her we knew it wasn't her fault. We were told there was a new menu or something and they were having issues in the kitchen. The manager that night, Annette, came to our table and apologized also. She took care of our whole bill, which was a very nice gesture, and not at all what we were expecting, but since we didn't eat any of our entrees I am glad we didn't have to pay for it. They also brought us out a complimentary dessert (Key Lime Pie - which was just OK. Came out in a coffee cup and was mostly cool whip tasting cream) They did a good job with the service and trying to correct the mistakes, but overall the experience wasn't a good one and we won't be back. read more

We had an amazing quiet and romantic dinner here for a wine tasting getaway! Delicious dinner, nice wine selection and historical ambiance.

My wife and I stayed at the Sutter Hotel for our Wedding anniversary / Valentine's Day and had dinner at the Sutter on Valentines Day. The restaurant offered a special 4 course meal, which was amazing. A beautiful pear blue cheese champagne vinaigrette salad, butternut squash soup with apple, beef short ribs with polenta and asparagus, and finally tiramisu and chocolate covered strawberries. Huge delectable service, great service from Shelby. read more

Though we have pretty high standards, and why shouldn't we....... This was one of the all time bad dining experiences. My darling man asked for a simple pasta dish with grilled shrimp. He wanted the basic olive oil/garlic/red pepper flakes. What was brought out was A)not edible and B)3 lousy little shrimp atop the pasta. Honestly, a child could make this correctly. Having sent this back he ordered a cheese burger with sweet potato fries. the sweet potato fries were underdone and the cheese burger was revolting. This place should be ashamed of what came out of their kitchen. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my dinner tonight. It was overpriced, skimpy portions, and little flavor. We had to ask for our wine, more water, and twice for the bill. This was supposed to be a special meal and instead, we went away sad and still hungry. Very disappointed. read more

Don't waste your money. Service was slow & bad - we had to ask for our silverware. When the sandwich finally came the bread on top had already dried out. The atmosphere is too loud, and if you are seated in their sidewalk area of the restaurant you can't hear and you get to smell all the exhaust from passing motorists. A party of 3 - for lunch - with no alcohol - and the total with tip came to $125+. Seem like they don't really want the locals as patrons. read more

What a great find! We had dinner here a year ago and really enjoyed the food, ambiance and especially the service. Our server, Shelby Rae, was fantastic. I made reservations online and checked the online menu and was happy that they served a rib eye steak. Got to the restaurant and was seated near an opening and the flies were terrible. Received a menu and no steak was listed. Asked the waitress about the rib eye steak and she mentioned that there was a new chef and the steak was not offered. My wife ordered salmon and I ordered ribs and was very disappointed in the portion. We paid over $60.00 for a very yuppie meal that we shared with the flies. This place was one of our favorites when it was The Twisted Fork. Won't be going back... read more

Don't be too quick to judge Hotel Sutter Creek. It was just recently purchased and is in the beginning stages of a very extensive renovation. To keep all jobs in tact, they are being creative and remaining open while they renovate one area at a time. They have hired a new Chef and this week introduced their new menu. My husband and I ate there last night and while we are anxiously awaiting the renovation of the dining room, we found the entrees to be wonderfully delicious. We already knew there was a new chef on board, and the menu and food was proof. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection and I had the Chicken Caprese which was tender, juicy, pasta al dente, and full of flavor. So far the work they have done renovating the banquet room is outstanding! We are so excited to see what they will do with the rest of the place. As Sutter Creek locals, we have high hopes and are so appreciative that someone has the passion and foresight to take on this project. read more

The menu and food are good. The bar staff is friendly and attentive. However, the restaurant staff is totally clueless! We waited for 10 minutes for a table at 3pm, with two clear and set tables right in front of us and probably 4 tables of diners who were finished eating. The host didn't even remember he had seen us already, even though we were waiting right there. When we asked again, he took our information a second time and said he couldn't seat us because he couldn't find any menus! There were three staff members at the hostess desk, so it didn't appear to be a staffing issue. We finally sat at a clear table in the bar. We noticed the same pattern with each party that came in to get a table in the dining room. If you're in a hurry, you may want to go somewhere else. This was our third time there since new ownership a couple of years ago, and it has been our experience each time. We really want to love this place... read more

This place is great. We went for a day trip from Murphys and had lunch here. I had a dragon lady something or other cocktail and it was yummy. We had spicy mussels as apps which I still dream about they were that delish. I also had the truffle bacon mac n cheese and it was amazing. We got to walk around upstairs and it's so beautiful! Overall a nice stop and I will be returning. read more

I used to go to the Sutter Hotel for lunch/dinner about 20 years ago when I lived in Placerville. I was really disappointed with my experience today. After being seated, no one came to take our drink order for 15 minutes, even though they were not busy. They got my order wrong and didn't offer to fix it. Then after we were done, drinks empty and napkins laid on the plates, we sat for 10 minutes waiting for the check, even by then we were the last ones in the restaurant. I won't be back. read more

This restaurant has typical hotel food that is overpriced with poor service. I ate at the bar in an attempt to have faster service and avoid the rude, inexperienced waiters in the dining area, but had to endure boisterous patrons. We stopped in Jackson last Saturday and had lunch at the hotel . My husbands meal was great but my chicken sandwich was unbeatable and I had to send it back . Food was cold and French dip meat had a fish flavor. Expensive for poor quality. Silverware and glass also dirty.

On Saturday, my daughters and I came back from swimming and decided on an impromptu dinner, although we did not feel appropriately dressed for this restaurant, which is quaint, but could also be dressy. Still, we were treated like queens! We celebrated my daughter getting her PhD and told our waitress, Ashley. Much to our surprise, she and some of the staff came over after our outstanding dinner, and sang "Happy Graduation!" The atmosphere, friendly staff and excellent menu and food capped off a wonderful milestone! read more

My husband and I had a very pleasant dinner there last night before going across the street to enjoy live music. My salmon was cooked perfectly, the brussel sprouts were flavorful, and the risotto was so wonderful that I wished more had been put on the plate. My husband had the Crab Louie salad, always my favorite, and we were surprised to see that it had diminished significantly in size. It is adequate as an entree for someone who has a smaller appetite. The new "signature" bread was delicious and came with a wonderful dipping sauce. Our waiter was extremely attentative without being annoying, and the food came rapidly. We made it to the concert with time to spare. read more

We had lunch on Sunday, Nov 9. We were starving and recognized this place as fairly new so we decided to try it out. It didn't look that busy, so we figured on a nice quick lunch and head out wine tasting. Well, we were seated quickly enough, and our orders were taken quick enough by a polite, young waiter. From there it got frustrating to the point of feeling sorry for the waiter! He kept apologizing for the food being late, that there were a couple of large parties being served. After waiting 50 minutes for our lunch, our food arrived. The food itself was really good! And again, the waiter was great too, but not one apology from the kitchen/manager. We figured that at the very least, they could have comp'ed our $3 sodas! Oh well, we'll look for another lunch spot on the next trip...this one's done. read more
