The bed I slept in. If I would've rolled up the shades, you could see the train tracks.

This hotel is conveniently located between 2 subway stations and multiple bus stops for getting around Brooklyn and elsewhere. However, you will hear trains barreling by all day and night. The staff is very friendly and there is complimentary coffee and fruit-infused water in the lobby. The sleeping rooms are ok. They feature beds that are kinda on the firm side and not long enough blankets. There is a see-through to the room shower. VaVa Voom. There's also a microwave, but no fridge. The rooms are kinda small, but that's probably how it goes in the area.also, there is no recreational facility, as advertised on the website. Download a day pass for Planet Fitness a half mile away, if you'd like a gym.

Stay away There was noise at my window till 2am started again at five am. Bad, very uncomfortable bed ,furniture laminate burned and chiped. Shower floor had been patched but was still mouldy and dirty. As potential to be a great place , but they're not keeping it up. Have no idea where these were good reviews are coming from. The only good part was cheap We'll pay more to stay elsewhere next trip. Happy car was there in the next morning and tires were not flat from the broken bottles in the street in front of the hotel.

I stayed a few nights and had a pretty comfortable stay. My room was spacious enough for one person, though it had two beds - a full and a twin. Each night when I retired back to my room after long day in the city, I was welcomed with a clean room, clean bathroom, and freshly made beds. Though it's right by the subway, the noise didn't affect my sleep nor did it bother me. My window view was actually of the tracks and the busy street. However, I was exhausted each night and slept hard. If you're a light sleeper, this hotel might not be for you. Since it's located in the middle of two subway stops, it's pretty convenient if you plan on commuting. It's also walking distance to a few cafes and restaurants. Speaking of food, I didn't get to try theirs except for the coffee which was pretty good. I also didn't get a chance to explore the hotel, but it looks like they have a nice rooftop patio. Overall, I enjoyed my stay at RL Brooklyn and would stay there again.

It was hard to capture an angle where all the crumbs are visible, but it was clear that it hasn't been swept or vacuumed for a while

Expectation: cool, hip, urban Brooklyn getaway Reality: Shoulda gotten away with an Airbnb The lobby looks great, that was the best part (aside from being greeted inside by cat callers as soon as I walked in at night). The units decor reminds you of a cheap Airbnb: "decorations" that make no sense, no floor length mirror, and one of the beds didn't even have a comforter. My favorite part was that the place was never cleaned, as if someone walks in to change the sheets only to shrug and say "good enough" before letting the new guests in. That night, we asked the front desk to clean our room. We showed them pictures of the hairs (everywhere) that were not ours, the questionable stains on the floors (don't even want to know) and the crumbs on the floor. Although they assured us someone would come to clean, no one ever came. Round #2 of asking for someone to clean the room the next day also led to no success. Round #3....we asked the housekeeping directly and we got our sheets changed! But no, the floors and everything else was not cleaned and we were left without towels. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Some of the staff was really friendly and I wish I spent more time in that hotel lobby, but the price we paid was not worth this experience.

Letter taped up at the hotel entrance

I booked my reservation through the hotel website on 4/28/23 for a reservation on Friday 6/2/23. I never received an email that this property became an emergency shelter. The security guard at the entrance said that our reservations carried over to the Marriott a few blocks away. We called Marriott and no one knew what we were talking about. No one answered Hotel RL's phone. I message their social media accounts and no response. I emailed their customer service email address which bounced back because it was invalid. We traveled 3.5 hrs to Brooklyn to be told that this site is an shelter. Unreal how they did not even contact me to inform me of this inconvenience. I still have not heard from anyone in regards to this matter. What a waste of time and stressful situation to be put in!

I really wanted to love this place. I love Brooklyn like crazy and def wanted this to be my go to zone when I visit the city...which is usually monthly. Unfortunately there were just way too many issues that I couldn't ignore. I even messaged them the day after I left to give them a chance to address my frustration, but no one replied back. Where to begin...well I'll begin with the good. The staff are pretty accommodating. I had a request and they made sure it was taken care of and there was no circles I had to run around. This started things off great and I couldn't wait to get here with my girl. (This was our get away from stress much needed mini vacay). Upon arriving is when things went south. We walked in the door and the entire lobby just stunk of weed, it wasn't a little linger, it was bad. We then got sent up to the 8th floor where the entire floor once again stunk of weed. It was so bad we had to toss our masks because they stunk now. Speaking of masks, so many guests weren't wearing them that we now have to get Covid tests. There was zero enforcement. Speaking of guests, I have to admit it was pretty awkward on the elevator when an escort in red lingerie and no shoes can on the elevator (no mask of course). She was very comfortable with her surroundings, so clearly that behavior is acceptable there. (Can verify with cameras on elevator if need be). The other issues are ridiculous and could easily be addressed. They don't have even ONE vending machine for drinks. We had paid 60$ to bring food to our hotel so we didn't have to go out. Only to find out they had no vending machines and I had to walk across the street to get sodas. I could have just walked to get us food and saved all that money. They also don't have refrigerators in the rooms. We also kept hearing a loud hum in our room all night. All those issues bum me out like crazy because I really liked the room and the lobby was super cool if it didn't smell so bad. I would have loved to made this my go to hotel for all my city trips.

you're a hotel and don't have utensils on deck? What the actual *?

They don't have utensils to eat food. They just asked me to get it around the corner. They. . . Asked. . . Me. . . To . . . Get it.

After spending 3.5 hours in an electrical storm on a runway at JFK my flight was canceled and me, along with thousands of others, were left to compete to find lodging for the night. It was near midnight and the decision of where to stay wasn't a studied one. I lost out on a room at a Best Western (hotels.com) then toggled over to grab a room at this property (booking.com), which listed it as 8.8 miles from JFK. I chose it due to supposed airport proximity, recognizable brand name, and price. There's a lot to unpack in the above: * Despite what booking.com says, the hotel isn't near JFK. When the taxi pulled up in front my friend asked about getting a trip back to JFK the next morning and the driver said "you should've stayed closer to the airport". The Hotel RL is a $36 (pre-tip) taxi ride from JFK, a $24 Lyft ride to JFK, or a $74 Lyft ride during surge pricing. The train (with links to AirTrain) is .3 miles from the hotel's front door so if you're inclined, this would be a more economical way to get back and forth. * Though I recognized the name Red Lion it'd been years since I'd stayed in one. I remembered it to be a decent, mid-priced property with locations outside of major city centers. This property is in Bed-Stuy in a somewhat rough looking area directly beside the train (earplugs available at check-in). More than one person suggested it was "okay during the day but probably not so safe at night". When I left the next day at noon, a woman was swigging a 40 from a paper bag out front. I didn't feel in danger during the day but neither did I feel comfortable. * With the exception of the elevator and interior halls, the property has been outfitted with cute, hip features. It's clean and stylish (old Brooklyn mural, rough wood/industrial chic) with a spacious communal work space/cafe on the ground floor. The elevator (which sounded about to short out) needs some maintenance and the interior hallways leading to the rooms could benefit from renovation. I was surprised to get off the elevator and find that the hallway looked to be in its original state, not a good or comforting look. The room, with 2 double (queen?) beds was ample and the only thing missing seemed to be bedside lighting. * $215.79 ($185 pre-tax/fees) for one night seems a bit high for the area. Could I have gotten a better deal directly from the hotel? If you have time, I'd suggest you check. For all of the above reasons I can't honestly think of a reason I'd stay in this hotel again but, were I given a reason to stay in Bed-Stuy I'd stay here without hesitation. Sure, I wish the price was less, the hallways renovated, and the train tracks further from the window but the staff was pleasant and the room clean and stylish. If I needed to stay in this area this is the hotel I'd choose.

This hotel is perfect ! I saw it a few times and always felt like going in to see it. Too bad that I didn't do it before. This is the perfect hotel if you need to get away without going away, if you are from Brooklyn or from out of town, is simple, clean, super fresh, nice. The restaurant side looks so nice and I couldn't eat anything because Covid19 has it closed. The room was excellent, it had 2 beds, really comfy ones and the sheets of the bed felt so fresh and clean, I didn't want to leave. You know, if there's a day where you need a break or vacation from your family, and you feel like you just want to go somewhere and find a quiet spot to relax or do some work, this is absolutely the right place. The room facing the street with the train tracks might have the noise of the train when it passes by, I can't tell how noisy because while I was there, the train did not run.

Made a last-minute reservation through Booking.com because the nightly rate was so low! The neighborhood seems to be more gentrified than the last time I was in the area a few years ago. Finding parking right around the corner was easy, and the check-in staff were very pleasant and friendly. They even had live music playing in the lobby bar! Our room itself was clean, modern, and trendy. Great aesthetic, I liked how they used industrial wall hooks to make up for the lack of closets. And I know it's super geeky to get excited about bathroom products, but I liked their charcoal lavender body soap so much I looked up the brand online to see if I could buy my own! Unfortunately, there was a couple having a very loud and violent fight right down the hall. I'm talking yelling, crying, and throwing objects. We called down and reported the incident. On our way out for dinner, we again mentioned the disturbance. Hotel management informed us that the police were already on their way to escort those visitors out, and I was impressed by how quickly they handled it.

The back wall in the bar area. The wanderlust in me loves the tiles!

My review is for the bar area as I live a few block away so don't really need to stay in the hotel lol. Super cute hotel lobby bar. They offer coffees of all variety, cappuccino, espresso etc. There is a full service bar with everything ranging from wines by the glass to your favorite cocktails. The decor is casual, I especially love the murals etched into the tiled walls, showcasing popular buildings in famous cities across the globe. The music is generally good, played at conversational level. But I think your favorite part of Hotel RL's lobby bar will be the prices. They can't be beat!

A rude woman who did little to correct her mistake. Now I'm wet. I went to the bar to ask if they'd replace the drink. The bartender immediately said "no go ask the manager." Well alrighty! I find the manager and he proceeds to re-explain the situation as "so you want us to buy you a drink? It's not our fault or responsibility." We're adults. I never placed blame. A peculiar thing to say considering I just bought the drink and I'm in your establishment. Felt pretty short tbh. Not sure why I was expecting a different tone. He eventually just offers me a shot. I don't particularly like shots so I kindly slid the remainder of the spilled drink and declined the shot, suggesting that Managment show the next customer a little more grace and respect in tone. Obviously an establishment isn't responsible for spilled drinks and don't have to be kind at all. I get that. But I guess that's what separates a great establishment from a mediocre one just selling drinks and not an experience. Good luck to them.

Being a Hilton Honors member made check-in a breeze, and I was even gifted complimentary water upon arrival, which was such a thoughtful touch. We stayed in a room with a window facing an extremely busy intersection, with honking going on all day and into the night, but thankfully, the windows were thick enough to block out most of the noise. The AC sound also helped drown it out. The room and restroom also felt spacious for what you get in NY. There was daily breakfast, which was your typical hotel breakfast with a variety of options that changed daily. It's about a one-mile walk to get to DUMBO, which wasn't bad at all, even when we had to do it in the rain. The subway is about a 10 minute walk, and there are two corner stores down the street. Once you sat down and looked around, things just became more unhinged by the moment. - DUST covered everything. - The floor was nasty and had dirt, scraps of food wrappers, and food crumbs everywhere. It was clear the floor had not been vacuumed in days. - The hallway was also covered in grime, and had an added stickiness to it which you felt each time you took a step forward. - The large door to the bathroom was off its hinges so it could no longer slide shut. - The shower had visible black mold. Only a few of the water spouts had water come out. The rest were either clogged or just didn't work any longer. - Paint was pealing on the wall. - The couch in the room was covered with a cheap, ripped, couch cover that had stains on it. - Visible cigarette burns showed in various areas of the room. - They only gave us one pillow and one towel. I had specifically booked the hotel for two guests. We used the hotel to quickly get ready for the rest of our night, and asked the man working at the front desk to bring up a few pillows and towels, as we explained we only had one of each. When we returned, they had brought two towels up to the room, but no pillows. My partner went downstairs to ask the man once again for pillows. He told us they would be right up. 15 minutes passed and nothing. We called again and he said the same thing - they would be right up. Another 15 minutes - nothing. I called once more, and said we needed them because we wanted to go to bed soon - I was clear my partner did not have any pillows to use as we only had one supplied to us. I was told they would be right up - they never came. When we left the next day, I was very straightforward with the girl working at the front and let her know it's unacceptable that my partner had to sleep on a "decorative" pillow from the touch which smelled. She told me they would be right up - but I told her they already said that to us -she needed to make it a top priority for us as we've asked many times. Not one apology was given for their lack of service. Fortunately, when we came back they had given us two pillows however, both of them stunk and were stained. When we woke up the next day, we realized the sheets had moved around a bit while we were sleeping, and my partner slept on a giant brown stain that could have been anything. NEVER staying here again - I hope they shut this place down soon what a joke.

I have been a longtime user and guest of Marriott hotels & brands for YEARS, especially the Aloft…read morebrand in particular - the Aloft New York Brooklyn is by far the WORST Aloft/Marriott I have EVER stayed at. Customer service from the front desk and staff THROUGHOUT the stay was abysmal and horrendous. Half the time you couldn't even find someone AT the front desk to help you out with anything, and when they were there, they literally would drag their feet or pretend to do something when they actually weren't! Anytime I requested or asked for something, I would be told it's 'done' and that I'm 'good to go', but inevitably I would find out that NOTHING had actually been done!! This led to me also receiving very rude interactions with the housekeeping managers, who would act like I was in the room without permission due to the lack of communication between any of the staff here regarding my check-out times and other such issues. As for the hotel itself, it clearly is not being properly maintained, and things are grimy, dented, and nasty throughout the rooms and halls. The door handle for my first room literally BROKE, and doors throughout the building all have half broken, drooping door handles...scuffs, marks, and broken bits EVERYWHERE. It shouldn't be that hard to maintain a relatively new hotel if there was an effort AT ALL put into it, but the staff/management here clearly DOES. NOT. CARE. AT ALL. OH - and watch out for scams here when it comes to charges they'll put on your card!! They created a second folio and had multiple duplicate charges for the SAME room and the SAME nights, and have refused to remove them!! I have disputed the charges on my card and filed complaints with Marriott regarding the shady, scam-like activities that the management at this hotel engages in. Needless to say, I will NEVER stay at the Aloft New York Brooklyn Hotel EVER again - and I highly recommend that all of you steer WELL clear of it as well.

So glad we did! We love Brooklyn and this area in particular. This TownePlace is right around the corner from the Subway station, literally 3 minutes. We take the Subway everywhere we can when we visit, so we were happy. This is a great location! There are lots of restaurants in the neighborhood and the people are so friendly. There are lots of fun locally owned shops which we enjoyed as well. If you don't mind the walk, you can head to the shops next to the Barclay center which have Target and Marshalls and other shops but those are the only two we were interested in at this time. You can take the Subway over there, but we like to walk as much as possible when in NY. In the hotel there is a washer and dryer which cost $6 a load. The hotel sells laundry soap in the little lobby market. The complimentary breakfast is just like the regular Marriott breakfast for a TownePlace. Eggs, bacon/sausage, oatmeal, bagels/muffins, yogurt, dry cereal, coffee. Not much fresh fruit at this location. We checked in and checked out without any issues. Our room was spacious and clean. Great view to watch people shoveling snow and watch the snow fall. Big windows to let in the sunshine when the snow stopped. We will definitely be back in 2027!

However, after Christmas, December 26th, I called around 1PM to have our room cleaned. The front desk confirmed, we left and returned at 7pm, the room has not yet been cleaned and the trash bins are full for both the bathroom and kitchen. I was informed by the front desk that they do not have housekeeping and will schedule the room for cleaning tomorrow. I said, but our trash is full. They can't do anything about it. I went downstairs with 2 bags of trash and offer to throw the trash away and was told they can't throw them away and to just leave the garbage in the hallway, outside the room. How can a place like this not have a housekeeping available, it's only 7pm. How about offer to get the trash at least? Am I at Marriott?
