I could see people inside of the businesses. So I'm guessing they could've seen me

This hotel was very okay. The Monday morning staff were much friendlier and more sincere than the Sunday evening ones, though to be fair, I wouldn't love working Sunday nights either! The place itself felt like it may have once been luxury apartments that eventually got converted into a hotel. It definitely had that "someone's old apartment" kind of vibe. The bathroom wasn't spotless, the sink drained slowly, I could hear people in the hallway, and the furniture looked dated. I kept the windows closed since the view was directly into nearby businesses, and the A/C unit's light was blinking, likely needing a new filter. I found this hotel through a Priceline "VIP discount," but it didn't feel very VIP. Parking also wasn't included, and when I politely asked about it, the front desk agent immediately got defensive, saying I should have booked it when making the reservation before even checking my file. When I asked how I could tell if it was included, she snapped that "it says it on the website," though I never saw the website since I booked through Priceline. The interaction happened around 3:30pm, so it wasn't even late at night. On the bright side, the Monday morning team was much more pleasant, which helped end the stay on a better note. Overall, it wasn't terrible, but I wouldn't call it a VIP experience or one I'd rush to repeat.

At this point in my life, I would sleep in some pretty dire conditions if it meant I don't have to wake up with the demons my wife gave birth to in the morning. Thankfully, when we got the chance to get away from those adorable little monsters, we were able to book a room at the Nu Hotel. The room was surprisingly pricey, but still more affordable than the other options nearby (there may have been something happening at the Barclays Center to drive up the rates). And aside from a slightly funky smell upon entering (I hope it was just a fluke), the room was nice. It was just about all the things we were looking for, which was basically a decent bed and a clean bathroom in this neighborhood. We had grand plans to go out to brunch the next morning, but horrific hangovers meant the continental breakfast came through in the clutch (much appreciated), and the post breakfast nap was necessary, right up until the noon check out. The guy who checked us in and the lady who checked us out were both quite pleasant, and that was the extent of our interactions with the staff. I'd do it again, if only for the most reasonable rate in the area, and getting the hell away from my kids.

I really wanted to like this hotel, but things went wrong from the time of check-in until I left. When I arrived, the staff who was at the front desk was not friendly and did not even lift her head up to acknowledge myself or my husband. I overlooked it and figured she may be having a bad day. Upon receiving the room key, we proceeded to make our way upstairs when I opened the door, there was only one bed. I requested a room with two queen beds. I tried to call the front desk, but nobody answered the phone so I made my way back downstairs with all of my luggage. I told the staff at the front desk the situation, but she proceeded to interrupt me and her response was "it's for two people". Not sure what that was supposed to mean, but I showed her my reservation summary where I booked for two beds. She just said give me your key cards and she handed them back to me after reprogramming the new rooms. We went to our new room and encountered more issues which included a stain on the sheets, broken drapes, a dirty shower and floor, and the iron was missing from the room. I attempted to call down and request an iron but once again no one answered the phone. My husband and I took another walk back to the front desk and requested an iron which she said somebody would bring it to the room. The iron we received was broken. We also attempted to order food but was told they are not serving any so we had to walk and find an outside option. Also, the amenity fee that the hotel is charging on their website was not honored. It states a $10 credit towards NU bites, a complementary pour upon arrival, bike rental, slippers, and more all which I was told they no longer do. I work in a leadership role and a well known company and having one unprofessional staff or not updating policies to current status can have a huge negative affect on the brand. This staffs customer service skills was not reflective of someone who should be the first interaction people experience. The next morning when I got off of the elevator the same staff did not even have the courtesy to say hello or good morning. She just had her head buried in her phone. There were no napkins put out for breakfast which when I asked still none came out in the ten minutes I waited. Overall, not a good experience. I overlooked the fact the noise level was the worst I've ever encountered in a NYC hotel, but I could not let go of the inappropriate behavior of one staff.

The room was clean and the location worked for me. Those are the only two good things I can say about this hotel. The lobby and front desk had the feel of a nice-ish convenience store. The front desk staff were cold. The first room I got was on the 2nd floor. When the elevator doors opened it smelled like NYC on trash collection day. I immediately went down and asked for a new room on a different floor. Luckily I got one but the woman at the desk acted put out. The room I got on floor 3 had drab grey walls and a bed that looks like a pull out couch. I felt like I was in a dreary dorm or very nice prison. Very dim and depressing. I booked two nights but the first night I could only sleep 2 hours because the bed not only looked like a pull out couch but felt like one as well. I couldn't get my money back for the second night but I left and got another hotel anyway. Then when I got home I saw a charge for $60+. Upon calling I was told that that was an "amenities fee" and that I must not have heard the person tell me about it but that someone definitely must have because they always do. I assured the person on the phone that I would have heard that. For such a bootleg hotel to have the nerve to have a "resort fee" for breakfast that I never saw, a gym I never used, and wifi is laughable. Just no.

Had an opportunity to stay at the Nu Hotel this weekend. While we are still amid a global health crisis, I was impressed by how accommodating the hotel staff was. Everyone was friendly and wearing masks. The service was great and they even gave me a kit with a quality mask, hand sanitizer, and other information about COVID-19. We were able to socially distance when using the elevators and there was a lot of hand sanitizer stations throughout. The hotel was spacious and amazing. Very swanky and close to good eats in downtown Brooklyn.

Professional customer service is what you get at this hotel. I emailed the hotel to arrange a surprise staycation for my mom and cat (You need to sign a waiver and will be charged a $100 one-time cleaning fee) - Katherine B. , account manager, responded to me in a timely and professional manner. They offered a very good rate and prepared some welcoming refreshment in our urban suite. I felt so welcomed the moment I connected with them - good customer service goes a long way. NU Hotel is a boutique hotel located at downtown Brooklyn where it is surrounded by a bunch of good restaurants. Make sure you grab a pizza at Sottoca, omakase at Ki Sushi, smoked brisket sandwich at Mile End & pastries at Bien Cuit etc if you happen to stay here. They are all within 5 to 10 minutes walking distances and I guarantee you wouldn't regret your choices. I had a great time here with my family and I left with a bigger tummy.

So this needed to be its own post... Y'all know I love graffiti and taking pictures so I wanted a space that felt unique and eclectic... Not a chain hotel and I picked up on the nuhotel It was a cute little boutique hotel situation... I chose a room with a mural ... next time I want the room with the hammock And for an NY room it was huge... I def recommend if you're in Brooklyn Oh and it's one of very few Brooklyn hotels with parking ... there is a garage next to it, but I luckily found on street parking every I took away a star because my sink drained slowly and overflowed and there was a stain on the bed skirt I didn't notice until the last day of the trip

Small hotel centrally located by the prison. Joking aside, good location walkable to major subway stop (Jay/Metro), b61 bus and others, shopping, jail, courts, food. Cute and nicely updated. Free breakfast till 10.

Such a cozy and comfy stay in Brooklyn!! I stayed here for two nights with my boyfriend as we visited the area. Positives: -Friendly and down to earth desk staff -Free cookies for guests in the lobby (delicious btw) -Comfiest bed ever! -Hardwood floors free from allergy dust -Low to ground beds (which I loved!) -Clean rooms -Chalkboard in bathroom a very fun and cool touch -Free coffee and keurig in room -Close proximity to stores -Easy walk to Fulton Street -Window has noise isolation from street cars -Lo'ccitane products in bathroom -Free breakfast in the morning (but it's a small light selection: i.e bagels, toast, coffee, kashi bars, fruit) Negatives: -room was hot and radiator wouldn't blow cold air -windows open only one inch -LED lights by the bed were broken so we couldn't read -desk chair didn't roll well -Detention center was across the street but didn't bother me. I felt safe inside the room. As far as Brooklyn goes this was an excellent hotel. Had a few issues as far as room temp was concerned but I loved my stay. Our room was directly in the front of the hotel so we had a nice view of the streets ok BK. I would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

A rude woman who did little to correct her mistake. Now I'm wet. I went to the bar to ask if they'd replace the drink. The bartender immediately said "no go ask the manager." Well alrighty! I find the manager and he proceeds to re-explain the situation as "so you want us to buy you a drink? It's not our fault or responsibility." We're adults. I never placed blame. A peculiar thing to say considering I just bought the drink and I'm in your establishment. Felt pretty short tbh. Not sure why I was expecting a different tone. He eventually just offers me a shot. I don't particularly like shots so I kindly slid the remainder of the spilled drink and declined the shot, suggesting that Managment show the next customer a little more grace and respect in tone. Obviously an establishment isn't responsible for spilled drinks and don't have to be kind at all. I get that. But I guess that's what separates a great establishment from a mediocre one just selling drinks and not an experience. Good luck to them.

Service was friendly and attentive. They served fries, ribs, chicken wings, olives etc. Our food was pre-ordered by out hosts and we had wine. The bar area is dimly lit , so a nice place for a casual or semi intimate meet up. Our host did have the second part of the event in their suite so I got a chance to see what the rooms looked like. Spacious, clean and they had a nice view. Our hosts had been at the hotel for 4 days and were happy with the experience and service they received.

It was also perfectly located just a short walk from my Pilates studio, which made sticking to my routine while traveling super easy. On top of that, there were plenty of coffee shops and local restaurants nearby, so I never had to go far for a good bite or my morning coffee. Being a Hilton Honors member made check-in a breeze, and I was even gifted complimentary water upon arrival, which was such a thoughtful touch. The room itself was clean, cozy, and perfect for a short stay. The view from my window was amazing especially at night and I loved how quiet it was, making it easy to fully relax after long days out. They also have great amenities like a gym and a breakfast buffet every morning. The waffle machines, fresh fruit, and coffee were definitely highlights and a great way to start each day. My main concern when looking for a hotel in NY/Brooklyn was having a microwave and fridge, and thankfully our room had both. I was also told you can request them if your room doesn't already have them. We stayed in a room with a window facing an extremely busy intersection, with honking going on all day and into the night, but thankfully, the windows were thick enough to block out most of the noise. The AC sound also helped drown it out. The room and restroom also felt spacious for what you get in NY. There was daily breakfast, which was your typical hotel breakfast with a variety of options that changed daily. It's about a one-mile walk to get to DUMBO, which wasn't bad at all, even when we had to do it in the rain. The subway is about a 10 minute walk, and there are two corner stores down the street. Honestly not a bad location! Just be careful when crossing that crazy busy intersection! I would stay here again!

What I encountered should NEVER be allowed in the hospitality industry. Immediately when you walk in to check in, you are met with the staff members behind bullet proof glass. The girl who works in the daytime has a very hard to hear voice and shows 0 emotion. The pictures show the front is decorated which is NOT the case any longer - it's just dirty and deteriorating. The lobby is out of order - chairs everywhere, the bar wasn't open the entire time we were there, and they tour down the TV that was once there. The elevator is deteriorating like the rest of the building, and you can hear it each way up and down. My partner and I walked into the room, which at first appearance looked nice. Once you sat down and looked around, things just became more unhinged by the moment. - DUST covered everything. - The floor was nasty and had dirt, scraps of food wrappers, and food crumbs everywhere. It was clear the floor had not been vacuumed in days. - The hallway was also covered in grime, and had an added stickiness to it which you felt each time you took a step forward. - The large door to the bathroom was off its hinges so it could no longer slide shut. - The shower had visible black mold. Only a few of the water spouts had water come out. The rest were either clogged or just didn't work any longer. - Paint was pealing on the wall. - The couch in the room was covered with a cheap, ripped, couch cover that had stains on it. - Visible cigarette burns showed in various areas of the room. - They only gave us one pillow and one towel. I had specifically booked the hotel for two guests. We used the hotel to quickly get ready for the rest of our night, and asked the man working at the front desk to bring up a few pillows and towels, as we explained we only had one of each. When we returned, they had brought two towels up to the room, but no pillows. My partner went downstairs to ask the man once again for pillows. He told us they would be right up. 15 minutes passed and nothing. We called again and he said the same thing - they would be right up. Another 15 minutes - nothing. I called once more, and said we needed them because we wanted to go to bed soon - I was clear my partner did not have any pillows to use as we only had one supplied to us. I was told they would be right up - they never came. When we left the next day, I was very straightforward with the girl working at the front and let her know it's unacceptable that my partner had to sleep on a "decorative" pillow from the touch which smelled. She told me they would be right up - but I told her they already said that to us -she needed to make it a top priority for us as we've asked many times. Not one apology was given for their lack of service. Fortunately, when we came back they had given us two pillows however, both of them stunk and were stained. When we woke up the next day, we realized the sheets had moved around a bit while we were sleeping, and my partner slept on a giant brown stain that could have been anything. NEVER staying here again - I hope they shut this place down soon what a joke.

Customer service from the front desk and staff THROUGHOUT the stay was abysmal and horrendous. Half the time you couldn't even find someone AT the front desk to help you out with anything, and when they were there, they literally would drag their feet or pretend to do something when they actually weren't! Anytime I requested or asked for something, I would be told it's 'done' and that I'm 'good to go', but inevitably I would find out that NOTHING had actually been done!! This led to me also receiving very rude interactions with the housekeeping managers, who would act like I was in the room without permission due to the lack of communication between any of the staff here regarding my check-out times and other such issues. As for the hotel itself, it clearly is not being properly maintained, and things are grimy, dented, and nasty throughout the rooms and halls. The door handle for my first room literally BROKE, and doors throughout the building all have half broken, drooping door handles...scuffs, marks, and broken bits EVERYWHERE. It shouldn't be that hard to maintain a relatively new hotel if there was an effort AT ALL put into it, but the staff/management here clearly DOES. NOT. CARE. AT ALL. OH - and watch out for scams here when it comes to charges they'll put on your card!!
