Movida @ Hotel Madrid offers the most amazing happy hour appetizers daily from 4-6. There are four different $1, $3, and $5 tapas options, as well as three kinds of sangria for $9. Most of the food options are vegetarian. I had the house seasonal sangria, which was tequila based with tajin on the rim (YUM!). We ordered all four $1 and $3 apps, which came out quickly in 3 rounds. My favorite were: Pan con Tomate (4 pieces) - very fresh tomatoes! Hot Honey Tosta (2 pieces) - the bread is sooo good, and the ricotta/honey/chili flake topping is superb Empanadillas (2 pieces) - not a huge carrot fan but these were amazing, so much flavor! Cauliflower Tosta (2 pieces) - again, the bread is fantastic!! Everything we ordered was enough for 3 people. You do need to enter on the north side of the building, and it is really quite fancy. We all felt underdressed. The happy hour is offered upstairs, where the bar and patio are located, and most people were dressed "business casual." Service was fantastic as well. They do add an 18% service charge" on the bill, which no one was really sure how to handle as there is also a tip line. I felt as though I double tipped on drinks ($27 drinks + $18% service charge + $5 tip)... I guess I need to look up how this is supposed to work here in the US prior to my next visit. We ordered the pan con tomate, the empanadillas, and the patatas bravas. Every thing was delicious! The pan con tomate was light, crisp, and refreshing with a creamy base from the aioli. The empanadillas were surprising light and airy, with aromatic spices. The patatas bravas were denser with a flavorful sauce and creamy aioli, but also had a slight crunch from frying. We also ordered the Hotel Madrid Paella but we were not a fan of it. The squid was fishy and overpowering, and the rice was too salty. Perhaps we just don't like paella. I visited the hotel Madrid years back before Movida became the restaurant here and thought I reviewed it. Mysteries of the universe- I guess not. Hotel Madrid is mainly a tapas and paella place- both of which they do really well. We ordered the hotel Madrid paella and about 6 or 7 tapas. It was so. Much. Food. Favorites were the paella, asparagus, and patatas brava. They had a heated outdoor seating area that was pretty private and actually really warm. Also, they have non alcoholic cocktails! My favorite thing. Of course you can ask the bartender to make you one if it isn't on the menu, but having some pre- thought out mocktail concoctions makes you feel less like an odd man out. I tried both - the jasmine lemonade was light and not too sweet- the other one ("sunrise?" I think?) Was more cloyingly sweet but really delicious. I absolutely love this restaurant and was delighted to go for a Friday night meal with my husband in celebration of our anniversary. I had been here in the past, but only for cocktails, so it was great to get a taste for all of their delicious plates. But first, drinks! We each ordered from their cocktail menu - an Old Fashioned for him (can't go wrong), and a Paloma for me. The El Jimador Silver, lime, and grapefruit soda was a refreshing mix. The drinks are on the pricier end, but hey ya get what ya pay for. The dinner menu largely consists of shared-plates, which is great when you're looking to try multiple tasty dishes. We started out with a goat cheese charcuterie plate. The cheese was decadent and the macadamia nuts and crispy flat bread paired nicely. Along with that, chard broccolini. I'm not sure what tangy sauce came poured over it, but it was delicious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the street noodles with shrimp, as well as the shishito peppers. Honestly, all of our selections had great flavor and left us very satisfied. Aside from the meal, the atmosphere and service at Hotel Madrid are both great. Went to grab tapas with friends! We were looking forward to sampling the menu. Unfortunately, we all were not in love with our meal. The meal started off strong with a summer sangria - so refreshing! When trying my tostas, the burnt flavor overpowered the dish. The steak was VERY well done. My friends tried the broccolini and thought it was average... expect a lot of garlic (bring a mint!). The highlight of the meal was when the waiter plopped a piece of steak in my water, this made for laughs and a fun memory. FYI, they include a 18% gratuity on all meals. This is "The Hotel Madrid" and it is The place to be if you like trendy, hip and stylish establishments to get your drink or relax on. I've been to this spot more than once and every time I've enjoyed everything they've offered up. This particular visit I was able to enjoy Madrid's spectacular outdoor space. It was sunny and hovering around 90 degrees, which for me equals perfect patio weather! I won tickets on FB to the weekends Paella Palooza. The Hotel Madrid Vs. their sister restaurant Movida. Great chef vs. great chef. Cooking Paella is an art in itself let alone in 90-degree weather. Despite the heat, Madrid and Movida turned it up a notch with this one delivering two solid paella dishes that for me were neck and neck close. Being this was the first time an event of this nature was held I hope to see the spot work out the kinks on the next one. Overall nothing but a good time at Madrid especially with the weather being overly cooperative. Not only is the ample sized patio space Madrid has very comfortable, the interior of the dining area is also a solid hangout spot. On Sundays, you get half off the famed specialty cocktail list and also half off food. More reason to hop in and get some. Also great is the Happy hour specials they have during the weekday. We went here for NYE and it did not disappoint! Hotel Madrid did a Copacabana themed dinner for NYE and it was the perfect way to ring in the New Year. You were able to make dinner reservations in advance and paid a $10/person deposit to secure your table. If you made your reservation after 9PM - you had it until midnight! Upon arrival, you entered through a special back entrance, there was a live band, photo area, coat check, and all the staff was dressed on theme. It was so fun. Their menu was half French, half Chinese and we loved everything that we ordered! Full of flavor, good portions, yum - yum - yum! Our server, Grace, was super sweet, helpful and attentive. Hope they continue doing these types of events for NYE! Overall, we can't wait to come back for a dinner or brunch date! Random side note: I was super disappointed that a majority of the guests didn't dress up that much...that's the whole point of a theme dinner! UGH. My only advice would be to maybe include additional photos or a quick list of what to wear for inspiration - which could maybe get guests more intrigued for the theme?? read more

Came here for Sunday brunch for the first time, and it was a lovely experience! First off, I love the ability to make reservations online. This made things very convenient. The space itself is nic. When you walk in, it doesn't look that big. However there's another area to the left that has a spacious seating area. I love the open kitchen concept where you can see the food being prepared. Mostly because it gave me a chance to see other people's food before ordering! I ordered the chorizo omelet because I couldn't fully decide what to get and I love chorizo, so can't go wrong with it! I loved that the omelet came with a side of the hm casserole. It's basically potatoes with cheese, and I mean, who doeesnt love that? Another individual in the group ordered the fried chicken with French toast, and it looked absolutely delicious. The bread was thick, and the chicken looked really juicy! The service here is great. My water was always full, the waiter came back just frequently enough to check in on our table without being overwhelming. I also love that at the end of the meal, your check comes in a book! Love small details like this that make a restaurant unique. Of note, HMM also has a Sunday happy hour from 5-6, where dishes less than $15 are half off. BRUNCH REVIEW Weekend peak time and no wait. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, with a very Madrid theme (Toros everywhere). Tables are big, sturdy, and spaced well enough apart that on even a busy evening I image you'd be able to carry on a conversation. I ordered a bloody mary and the chicken & french toast. The bloody mary was nothing special compared to other Milwaukee spots, but I appreciated the beer chaser. There were no "snacks" in it as advertised on the menu. The fried chicken was a large portion, but I managed to finish it all because it was so good. Perfect balance of savory and sweet. My friends ordered items that came with the casserole, and I would definitely get that next time. Service was a little slow-- took forever for drinks to come out, and they brought out my friends' entrees a few minutes before mine arrived. I have been to Hotel Madrid twice. The first time was amazing--the second time was also amazing BUT there's a reason they are receiving 4 stars and not 5. First of all, their happy hour is great-- 50% off bar food and drinks from 5-6pm. The first time we came here (about August/September) we were in a large group and we didn't sit at the bar, but we were given the Happy hour (at this point we didn't know it was supposed to be bar seating only). We were stoked with the food and drinks our first time here (avocado toast, amazing fries, and a baileys drink presented like if you were on a plane--very creative). The waiter was amazing and we didn't even need to ask him to split checks. That visit was a 5/5. We decided to put a group together and go during happy hour again (broke grad students here). In the beginning there seemed to be an issue with getting us the Happy Hour because it was only supposed to be bar seating (this was the first time we had heard of this since we were given it automatically last time). The waiter told us he would give it to us anyway which was so kind of him. We had an excellent meal (5/5) and drinks. But the problems arose when we received our checks without the 50% off the foods. This created a huge issue apparently with the management and the waiter because we weren't supposed to get the Happy Hour discount. After giving back the bill twice, it was finally fixed and were were able to pay. Now, I don't blame the waiter for this--he seemed stressed out and the restaurant seemed full and understaffed. But, the Happy Hour shouldn't be so limited... like it's already only an hour long... why can't it be extended to all patrons? (Not just bar seating). I have never been to a restaurant where Happy Hour is limited to the bar seating area. Without the happy hour they are a little pricey but they sure are delicious. I had the chicken and waffles for brunch which was delicious! Super tender and juicy chicken. Unfortunately food wasn't that great and we were confused about the fusion / identity of this place. We got sangria for the table which was fine. We ordered fruity pebble pancakes and it was gimmicky and very thick and dough-y. If you have something like this in menu, should be delicious to back up the gimmick? The chicken fried steak was dry and had lots of fat on it. The sauce was minimal and we all agreed there should have been more to bathe the biscuit and chicken in. The decor - initially loved the main dining area but then were confused by the weird touches - Dino salt and pepper shakers, the Mexican streamers on the outside patio and other touches of whimsy in what looks like it wants to be an upscale place. We wanted to try something different for brunch because the menu was very unique. The design is very quaint inside with some Spanish flair. I can't wait for summer to try their outside seating area. We got there within a few minutes of opening so it wasn't really busy. It was odd that a few items were already sold out - I guess from the Saturday brunch so nobody could try the Fruity Pebble pancakes and a couple of other items. We ordered a round of drinks and for some reason it seemed to take forever to get them. The place wasn't hopping but the bar service was VERY slow. However, the rest of the service was prompt and friendly. Everyone tried something different on the menu. Rave reviews for the chorizo burger with chips. I opted for the Madrid Benedict because of the uniqueness of the flavors. The serrano ham was delicious paired with the hollandaise and eggs. It comes with a side salad with a delicious red onion that I believe was pickled. This place has some unique brunch items - I will be back to try something else. Half off a menu of craft cocktails and food items from 5-6pm daily. There is usually plenty of room at the bar or a table during this time in the winter. In the summer, take advantage of their awesome patio on a nice day. Only one word of warning: At 6:00, their prices go back to normal, and it's very easy to continue ordering their cocktails and tasty treats as you were during happy hour time. Then, you have your classic brunch drinks and not so classic. Try them all. They are also known for their pop-up events which makes this place all the more cooler. When Stranger Things 2 premiered they had a themed party, complete with full decor and arcade games. I haven't been to any of these events but have walked in when they are setting up and I immediately regret not planning ahead to join. But my all time favorite part of Hotel Madrid is the summer happy hour. It's only on Fridays and only 5-6, but all drinks and bar food are half off. And these drinks are AWESOME. I recommend the Blue Hawaiian for Spanish G&T. The blue Hawaiian comes on a tray of sand (graham crackers) equipped with a little hula dancer. I'm not kidding, you have to go! read more

I had the chance to go to the Hotel Madrid for dinner on New Year's Eve, and if their every day experience is as amazing as this was, you have to get there. This is definitely a "treat yo'self" kind of place but well worth it. The service, food, and drinks were spectacular. You may notice in one of the photos that my drink came in a ceramic bust mug of Hemingway. This was fitting for a Havana Nights theme! The drink was potent but didn't stop me from having another (don't drink and drive, kids. Uber and Lyft are here for you!). We also had a drink special, shots served in a frozen lime! The food itself was outstanding. I had a flank steak and two of my friends had the scallops. Both were out of this world - cooked to perfection. The special menu didn't have much in the way of a vegetarian option for my 4th diner but once we made the server aware, she worked with the kitchen to come up with something for him, completely accommodating. The grand total for 8 cocktails, 3 shots, and 4 entrees was a little over $200, which I don't find to be totally outlandish especially when you know you're not going to a diner. 5 well deserved stars for service, food, and ambiance. I have being going here for years and it's literally just gone downhill since Covid. It's like they gave up or turned management over to a 16 year old. The food is still OK but it literally it's not the same place it's no longer a premier place to go! There are a lot better places in Walker point who want to earn your business. I was there last weekend and I hate to say it but that was probably my last trip, I will take my dollars elsewhere for my dining experience. Monday, July 23, 2018 about 5:30pm Very pleasant experience. My wife and I visited in July so we sat outside on one of the patios. We weren't real hungry so we tried a sampling of appetizers and desserts. Home runs on all counts! We ordered garlic shrimp, empanadillas, dulce de leche and panna cotta (hey, it was for fun!) and all were well presented, delicious and flavorful. The lemon sauce on the Panna Cotta was exceptionally good! Including outside seating the place is bigger than it looks. Sometime in the "near future" the upstairs will include two suites so the place will become a true hotel. The outdoor patios are great for summer group get togethers. Down sides? Well, there were some flies buzzing around but then we sat outside. I'd rather put up with them than sit in a chemistry set. Price was in line for the menu and quality but a little high for the neighborhood. Then again, the neighborhood has come a long way in the last few years. read more

I've been to Hotel Madrid twice. Once for a cocktail/opening night party for a tour of a traveling musical production and this past weekend for brunch. The first instance, the drinks were really good and the snacks were delicious. Also, the space is gorgeous. For brunch, we had a nice table in the dining room and it was relatively quiet because of a big snowstorm. The service was excellent, the small plates we had to start were delicious, and everyone really liked their meals. I would definitely go back and order the Breakfast Noods, because my sister's boyfriend had them and they looked awesome. My dad loved the Blood Sausage he had. No one else was brave enough to try it, but he didn't mind keeping it all to himself. read more
