I wish I could comment on my experience at the Hotel Commonwealth, but unfortunately their customer service was so poor that I didn't even have a chance. I actually won a one night stay in the hotel after winning a raffle. We won the room as well as tickets to the Red Sox/Yankees game on Sunday July 12th. Needless to say, we were very excited about the gift. After I was informed that I won, I was told that the person that donated the room already paid and that I just needed to contact the hotel and switch the reservation over to my name, which I did. It was then that I realized that the hotel was booked for Sunday night, not Saturday night. I asked the person that informed me of the prize if it could be switched and she said to contact the hotel. I contacted the hotel on June 4th and was directed to the manager's voice mail. He called me back June 5th and I explained the situation. I figured there might be a charge on my end for switching to Saturday, but the manager I spoke with said "no problem, you're all set". Looking forward to my weekend in Boston, I arranged for a babysitter for my children and someone to stay with my dog. On July 11th, the day we were supposed to check in, I was told that the hotel made an error and overbooked so the room we were booked for was not available but luckily there was a suite available so they would upgrade us. We were a little concerned that the hotel overbooked but the solution to a suite was great and we were excited to go and said we were on our way, as check in time was 3pm and it was already after 3. A few minutes later, I receive a call saying that our reservation was for the next day. I said that I spoke with the manager who switched the reservation who said that it was all set. The man on the phone with reservations asked me who I spoke with, and I did not know his name. I was told that the hotel was overbooked and they did not have any rooms available for me. He told me if I could tell him who I spoke with, maybe he could do something. Really? So, do you have rooms available or not? If I know the manager's name, you have rooms available? Is that how it works? So, I'd already left for Boston, had paid for a babysitter for my kids, and a sitter for my dog, and this supposedly luxury hotel messed up my booking TWICE. To make matters worse, when I explained my situation that they'd basically left us stranded, he was completely unapologetic. I was offered absolutely no resolution. I ended up paying out of pocket for another hotel in Boston and took what I could just so I'd have a place to stay. The wonderful weekend I'd had planned was completely ruined by this hotel and I made sure to tell the man who donated it in the first place since my understanding is that he has a strong affiliation with the hotel and stays there often. He didn't seem very happy about the treatment either, and I'd be shocked if he stayed there after this. The Hotel Commonwealth may very well be a nice hotel, but I never had the chance to find out. Beautiful accommodations mean nothing if you have poor customer service and shoddy record keeping. read more
