    Quiet, inviting lobby

Reluctant to post about this hidden gem. Unassuming and off the beaten path but convenient to the T and great food choices 1868 has a European vibe. Friendly, helpful staff. Rooms are clean and quiet. I found the desk staff helpful with direx and recs. Very good stay. We'll be back.

Checked in this morning right on the other side of midnight. There was no availability anywhere in the city as it's college move in time and this city is really just one massive college campus. I had been looking for rooms that were NOT $800/night for several hours once I realized we would need a room (my daughters new place wasn't ready despite assurances from the owner). When I first saw the room on Hotel Tonight for...get this...and I'm not lying...$221 for the night I thought it was an error as everything else available on Saturday was $500 and up. We couldn't even find rooms near Dedham, Newton, Watertown area. I immediately booked it and honestly didn't even call to validate that the room was actually available because I didn't want to know in case it was an error. We arrived 30 minutes after booking the room and they were expecting us with keys at the ready. The lobby and the exterior were very impressive, with Hotel 1868 going for the industrial yet soft (!) look. They succeeded. The room was a bit small BUT the decor was warm considering the exposed brick look and the ceilings were high. The bed was a queen (I believe all rooms are queen size beds...no doubles). The room had a bar style counter between the bedroom and bathroom where the coffee maker sat. The bathroom was a series of light greys, wood, and metal with a European style toilet (flush buttons for low and high flush needs). The shower was open (not a fan of these as the floor gets so wet) but the pressure was good and there was great space to hold toiletries. I hate hotel showers that don't have space to sit your personal toiletries. They have reusable shampoo, conditioner, and soap (good job...because I hate those little disposables too lol). The water pressure was great. I did feel like there was a bit too much water softener in the water but that was minor. As if it couldn't get any better...check out is noon. They didn't have a little snack shop but guess what? A 24 hour CVS was across the street. There are several interesting restaurants within 2 blocks, including an Indian Restaurant that we're heading to now!

Pros: -Gorgeous panoramic views of the river from the rooms -Room Service is top NOTCH. -The suites are HUGE! Super Spacious. -The gym is very well stocked and clean -Staff members are polite -Cleaning crew is very prompt with freshening up Cons: -The sound bleed between rooms is so bad. You can literally hear the phone vibrating in the room next to you. Tell me why someone was watching TV super loudly at 3-5 AM!? :( No sleep = Sad me.

When I booked the room, I mistakenly thought it included both a bed and a sofa large enough for my son and me. Upon check-in at 1am, Edvin kindly explained that the sofa was not what I had expected. Rather than simply delivering the news, he was incredibly friendly, warm, and genuinely helpful in assisting us an amazing solution. He made sure that we each received their famous cookies while they were still warm. After a long day of travel, his kindness and professionalism made a wonderful first impression. Exceptional customer service like this truly makes a difference, and we really appreciate the warm hospitality. Thank you, Edvin, for helping start our Boston visit on such a positive note!

Hotels in Boston are always expensive any time of the year you visit. I thought we were lucky to…read morefind this Marriott at a lower price. I was wrong. This place was not that great. From the moment we entered there were issues with check in. They could not find our reservations and we had to call and double check to find it. They finally found it and we were able to go into our room. The sink and shower had this blue gel on it that was getting mixed with the water. I did not trust it and did not wash up while we were there. I told the staff about the situation and they said they would fix it but no one came up to check on it. The beds were not as comfortable. Our room was right next to the cleaning closet so the staff was constantly opening and closing the doors while talking to each other early in the morning. This was not a good way to start your morning when you have a busy day planned. They give you a credit that you can use for their breakfast brunch or the Japanese restaurant downstairs. At first, I thought I love Japanese food. We will definitely go there. We came there Friday afternoon and the place was empty. The staff was walking around and acted like they didn't care who was coming in and out. They finally noticed us and gave us a seat. We ordered some drinks which were horrible. They were so sour and badly mixed. It tasted like the bartender poured these out of a can. Then we ordered food. We ordered the Red Sox sushi roll and the fried rice. Both were disgusting. The food was trash. I have had better sushi everywhere else. What kind of Japanese restaurant is this? Of course when you pay the bill the credit only goes to the food portion. Tax and tip are paid separately. If Marriott didn't give any food credit this place would have no one stopping by. When we checked out we voiced our problems to the staff. They were kind enough to refund us for the food credit due to the horrible food and the problems with the shower water. It was a nice thing but I would have appreciated it if they fixed it previously instead. This place was okay because it was cheap but I would rather stay at any other hotel instead.

You can use in restaurant or for breakfast. It has certain value and you don't get change. Gives you flexibility to save on what you choose and it is not a difficult concept! Only disappoint is there is NOT an onsite bar as shown on their website. Not a big deal, but it's permanently closed and we'd planned to visit over a drink and some snacks in the evening. Nothing super close by.

I was…read morethere for work and honestly wish I had extended my stay just for a little more of a rest! The shampoo, conditioner and lotions were (I think) Gilchrest and Soames -- if I have the wrong brand, know they were high quality and smelled wonderful. I did not eat at the restaurant while I was there, but colleagues of mine did and had positive things to say. I did avail myself of Door Dash a few times; very smooth ordering, as the hotel has a system set up for drop off and pick up. Was there this past winter during a particularly cold time and puh-lenty of snow; the front of the hotel was cleared and safe. A few suggestions: 1. If you can get a corner room, I HIGHLY recommend it for the light and openness. 2. The elevator is quite small -- I did fine, even with quite a large suitcase; just be aware for how many bags you bring or if you are a bit claustrophobic. 3. When I was there this past February, some construction was being done on the hotel. I was on the 5th floor and I heard nothing; the lobby, however, could be pretty noisy during the day. Again, not a reason not to stay -- and the hotel communicated well about the hours of the work. But if you plan to meet people there (for work or fun), you may wish to call in advance about the status of the construction. That aside, I definitely plan to make this my go-to hotel when I return to Boston.

We made a few requests during our stay, and everything was delivered to our room promptly. On a couple of occasions, I asked the front desk for a bottle of water when returning to the hotel, and they were always accommodating. The property features an on site bar and restaurant, as well as a fitness center. Our room was spacious, clean, and the beds were comfortable enough for a restful stay. If I had one suggestion, it would be to add a water station in the lobby. During our stay, a few days were unusually hot, and it would've been great to have easy access to cold water when coming in from the heat

Everything could be improved…read more Apparently this place has been under construction for months and yet the front is still very much under construction. The walkway entrance is sticky and wobbly. The sitting area is probably the only nice part about it and even then, it only has pleather/bonded leather couch. The other hairs looked flattened. The reception is off to the corner by the elevator. Sometimes, the staff is talking on the phone. And the elevator scares me as it makes weird noises when it moves. It's expired for a few months. It also smells. The room is very small. The bed is supposed to be a queen but it's more like a full, and on metal rails. There's no bench or couch in the room to drop off the luggage. However, there is one shelf in a small closet. The room is also supposed to be upgraded and renovated. But it's already dated. Some of the items like ventilation does not work. There's no headboard, just wooden slates. The floor is lament, the bathroom is on par with motel quality. Also, the room is noisy at night and I have been having trouble sleeping. I don't feel rested. For all these reasons, and at $400 per day, this place is a scam.
