Everything could be improved. Apparently this place has been under construction for months and yet the front is still very much under construction. The walkway entrance is sticky and wobbly. The sitting area is probably the only nice part about it and even then, it only has pleather/bonded leather couch. The other hairs looked flattened. The reception is off to the corner by the elevator. Sometimes, the staff is talking on the phone. And the elevator scares me as it makes weird noises when it moves. It's expired for a few months. It also smells. The room is very small. The bed is supposed to be a queen but it's more like a full, and on metal rails. There's no bench or couch in the room to drop off the luggage. However, there is one shelf in a small closet. The room is also supposed to be upgraded and renovated. But it's already dated. Some of the items like ventilation does not work. There's no headboard, just wooden slates. The floor is lament, the bathroom is on par with motel quality. Also, the room is noisy at night and I have been having trouble sleeping. I don't feel rested. For all these reasons, and at $400 per day, this place is a scam. read more

So, I stayed here July 25&26 and I loveddd almost all of the staff. There were two guys that checked me in and were amazing and super sweet! There were also two women that I think did overnight that were great! I was staying there for a big exam and the guys knew that and one ended up bringing me a fridge for my waters and snacks. I requested a quiet spot and they put me in one. It's a smaller hotel, and their customer service is great and makes you feel comfortable! Would highly recommend staying here! Loved my stay here! The good 1. Free soda and coffee by the reception desk 24/7 2. Nicely decorated (fireside!) lobby area 3. One single "public" bathroom located upstairs from the lobby so you don't have to run upstairs to your room if you need to use the restroom 4. free baked goods (see photo) for breakfast 5. Super close and convenient if you are visiting the university 6. They are able to store your luggage temporarily upon check-out 7. Reception staff are all super friendly and nice. I had to check out a day earlier than scheduled since the winter storm was not stopping, my request was effortlessly accepted 8. You do need your key card to swipe for building access after 11 PM (or midnight) for security reasons Other notes 1. Standard room (with two beds) is SUPER tiny but coming from NY, I am used to the crammed space. Just to note that the room I stayed in was even smaller than the ones that I have stayed at in New York 2. Because the bathroom is so small, the door cannot be fully opened. Only two blocks from Harvard Yard on the side near Lamont Library and Quincy Street, this is a cool little hotel. The rooms are small but tastefully decorated in a classic European style (heavy drapes, Italian style tile in the bathroom, earth colors (olive, beige)). Very comfortable bed with plenty of quality pillows. Superior bath amenities & bath robes. Hotel staff are friendly & professional. The courtyard outside is an excellent place to hang out and drink the hotel Nespresso. The only caveat I have is that the hotel is located right over the Red Line & you can hear the trains go by inside your room if you're at the front of the hotel. This added to the urban ambience for us but it might bother some. read more

This is an elegant looking hotel but needs some refreshing of the furnishings. The towels are very thick but no wash clothes were provided. We were told that wash clothes were available only if requested. The room was not cleaned or trash removed for the 4 nights we stayed there. On Sunday morning we were told there was no milk or cream for the coffee and it wouldn't be delivered for one hour. There is no coffee pot in the room so you need to go to the lobby for coffee or tea. The person at the desk was not at all apologetic for lack of milk. The location is great though. read more

Hotel Veritas was unbelievably quaint hidden gem very close to Harvard Square. Upon walking in, the lobby is very handsomely decorated with a fireplace and beautiful pale blue decor. Comfortable couches are available for if you need to wait and directly behind them there's a small row of tables and chairs if you want to relax with the free coffee or juice. It's a very nice layout initially. The hotel staff were very accommodating and kind. Unfortunately I did not get their names but there is a pretty blonde young lady concierge and a darker gentleman manager. They did a great job making me feel welcome. The rooms are very small, but if you don't mind that, you'll love them. After traveling quite a bit in Europe it certainly doesn't bother me. Sometimes it feels like American hotel rooms as well as American cars etc. are way too big LOL. The linens are high count and everything is squeaky clean. The decor is just as lovely as in the lobby, understated, pale, refined. The floor is heated in the bathroom and don't ask me why but I just love that. It makes taking a shower in the frigid winter a happy experience. I can't believe how reasonably priced Hotel Veritas is at this time of year. I would encourage you to go now, or really any time. Our room had a patio facing the street and during the day, it was nice to sit outside. Walking distance to Harvard Square where all of the shops and restaurants are. Books out super fast! Recommend booking as early as possible. read more

It;s kinda like going out to dinner and spending over $100 per person - of course it will be pretty good but for that kind of money it'd better be. Hotel Veritas is an absolute gem that's hidden just outside of Harvard Square (about an 8 minute walk). The hotel is modern, updated, really pretty, and pretty swanky. I stayed here with a friend last minute, and booked our room through Hotels Tonight. I got a great deal considering that it was the first night of the World Series in Boston, so I'm not sure what their normal rates are. When I asked for two beds, the people at the front desk informed me that they had reserved me a room with two twin beds. Not as ideal as two queen beds, but it was a last minute booking and was better than us sharing one big bed, so that worked for us. The front desk people were almost relieved that we were OK with it. There wasn't a fridge in our room, but the front desk was able to store two yogurts for me in one of their many fridge drawers. They actually offered to put a mini fridge in my room, but that sounded like a lot of effort for a one night stay and two yogurts. It was so nice that they even offered. They also had complimentary waters, tea, coffee, and juices in the lobby, which is SO NICE. I nabbed an orange juice on my way out in the morning. Their internet is also complimentary, which is - surprisingly enough - hard to come by in Boston hotels sometimes. Our room was reallllllly small, but very modern, super clean and very comfortable. We were only there for one night, so it worked just fine. The bathroom was also small, but was functional. The toiletries provided were fantastic - shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, lotion and a small toiletry kit. Plenty of towels were available, too. Once I got to the room, the front desk called just to see how everything was and if I needed anything. It was really an overall great experience, and I would definitely recommend this hotel if you need a place to stay in Cambridge! read more

We stayed at Hotel Veritas for one night. We live right down the road, but needed a hotel while the floors in our condo were getting sealed. Hotel Veritas a great hotel. The location is close to the heart of Harvard Square, but there are a ton of great spots right outside the door. Our room was clean and comfortable. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The lobby has a coffee and tea machine, bottled water, bottled juices, and the Boston Globe. Because we stayed here in the winter, the heated floors in the bathroom were awesome. And the fireplace in the lobby made lounging on the couches with my laptop much more comfortable. There are two more nights that we will have to stay at a hotel in a couple of weeks when the next coats get put on our floors (it's part of a complete kitchen renovation so that's the reason it's spread out), and the Hotel Veritas will definitely be at the top of our list. read more

Free internet! Free water! Free (decent) coffee & tea! It makes me sad that these essentials are usually either unavailable or ridiculously pricey at hotels these days, as they actually ARE essential. Hotel Veritas gets that the basic human being and modern traveler needs these things, and that they shouldn't have to pay through the nose for them. I love Hotel Veritas dearly for that. Check in was a breeze. The lovely man at the desk gave me my room key and valet parked my car within five minutes. I was given a brief overview of things (internet, taxi service, breakfast, coffee, FREE bottled water), and offered assistance with my bags. Lovely. My room was divine. I was upgraded from a 'petite queen' to a glorious boudoir with a king-sized bed just for me. The silky drapes matched the silky walls and the silky bedding - all in a delicious silvery-oyster color. Gorgeous. I slept like a baby... Until the construction began outside my window at 7am. Yuck. That's my one complaint: Hotel Veritas is actually right on Mass Ave, so you can hear pretty much everything. Had I remembered to pack my white noise machine, I wouldn't have had any trouble. So, a word: remember to bring a white noise machine if you're somewhat of a light sleeper. I kind of do think the hotel should have these in the rooms since it's a bit noisy, but I'm so in love with it in every other way, I cannot doc it a star just for this. Check out, too, was a breeze. The woman at the desk even mapped and wrote out instructions for me to get out of the city (which is always difficult for me). So kind. In closing, I loved this hotel. It's a boutique, the staff is very service-oriented, the rooms are splendid and the bathrooms are lovely. Stay here. read more

I really enjoy Hotel Veritas as a whole. I like the smaller, boutique hotel experience. I enjoy the more modern design and furnishings. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The only drawback to this hotel is small room size. The first room I stayed in here was small, but still functional. My second stay here, the room was also small, but so small that you could only open the closet door halfway before it hit the bed. The noise level also depends very much on the room location in the building. I had no issues with noise in the room that was on the rear street side of the building, but the room in the front of the building overlooking Mass Ave. was very noisy and would wake me up during the night. I would still consider staying here again, I would just look into the rooms available. read more

The Veritas defines boutique hotels when that definition has been blurred by the Kimpton's and Morgan's of the world with their boutique chain. Small, quirky, local and in an unbeatable location on Harvard Square, we opted for a staycation overnight for a wedding in town. The room, while beautifully appointed in a silver shabby chic, was small, but we knew that going in and were fine with that. But it was hot. Super hot, and the thermostat didnt make much difference. Additionally, the sound didnt work on about 1/2 of the TV channels, which wasnt a big deal, except we wanted to veg out hungover in the morning and couldnt listed to several programs. I'm guessing that should we have made an issue, they would have responded well because the service was stellar- however we werent going to be in room long enough for it to warrant the hassle of a room switch. Still cost it a star. Overall, a residing success as central Cambridge's most unique and desirable hotel. read more

I never know what to expect from'botique' hotels, but I wasn't dissapointed with this one! It started with the chipper and helpful staff and ended the next morning with a GREAT latte in the lobby. The hotel has a super conveienwnt location by Harvard. It has a cozy split level lobby, and they have free wireless and lots of nice outdoor space. The rooms are on the small end of the scale, but nicely appointed in a spectrum of monochromatic blue-greys that make for a calming sophistication. The sheets are high count and the towels are all cotton. the rooms are quiet and comfortable. I arrived without my toilet bag and they were happy to provide me with the essentials as well as a choice of frosty water or juice. I feel like the the 'friendly front end' of the hotel was the staff. Emily, Lori Jack and especially Brandon, the night clerk were helpful and made me predisposed to having a good stay. My only reservation was... The toilet paper. Yes, that minor but essential detail had a rough and institutional feel that made me think of public hospital, or possibly county jail and it was a rough finish to what was otherwise a lovely stay. read more

I was extremely pleased with my stay at Hotel Veritas. It really is a hidden gem, and if I return to the Boston area would definitely love to stay here again. I have visited Boston several times and never stayed in Cambridge. Now that I'm more familiar with both areas, I think I'd prefer to stay here! The staff is excellent and very friendly and accommodating. I'm a designer and I was in heaven with the decor! SO well done. My room was small but the space is well used, and had a beautiful bay window that faced Mass ave. The bathroom marble felt as though it was heated (soo warm in the winter time!) and the shower was really nice and comfortable as if I were in my own home. (I hardly ever feel that in a hotel, I'm usually grossed out and afraid to touch the walls, even in nice hotels). I was sad we only got to stay one night, Hotel Veritas felt like home! I enjoyed my 3-night stay at this hotel earlier this month. Quaint neighborhood, convenient to everything you want to do in Cambridge. Short hike to the train station. Staff are super helpful and friendly. My room must not have been petite, based on the reviews - plenty of room for just me. Loved the beverage station at the front desk. The bathrooms were lovely. Nice bathrobes, great tiled shower stall with heavy glass door. I made a note of the hair dryer to find one for myself. Usually not a high quality item in a hotel stay but that was a great one. Downside is that Cambridge is noisy (to me). Cars, buses and trucks were rumbling past at all hours, which can make it difficult for me to sleep. I could have used a fan or ear plugs. If there are rooms without a street view, I am guessing it might help with the noise. I was attending a conference in Copley Square, and nearby hotels were all booked up. Paired with a week-long train pass, I was able to make it work. It's a couple of blocks to the station. Logged a lot of steps on my FitBit that week. At the end of the week I requested a cab to make it easier with my luggage, and even at morning rush hour it arrived quickly and got me there right away. The downstairs reception lounge is comfortable, but the strange metal outdoor chairs could cut your legs off at the knees. Check out the Yelp photos, they are, literally, Very Helpful. I'm hesitant to write this review. If I tell the truth, I will never be able to get a room here again. It will always be sold out. The staff is very accommodating and as I sit, by the fireplace drinking my coffee (complimentary Nespresso), the majority of people checking out are known by name. This is a place that you return to again and again. I know that I will only use this hotel if I am in the area. The petite queen is true to its name - petite, but has all that you need. This was a very strange hotel stay for me. I travel all the time, and normally things go pretty smoothly from reservation to check in to billing. But this place seems to have some snags, at best, or some shady bait and switching going on. When I called the hotel to book, I was quoted a price of $620.11 for the entire stay, and received an email confirmation with that quote on there, thank God. Upon arrival I gave them my credit card and the woman said it was denied. I asked her to check again. It didn't go through. I called my bank and the representative said she didn't see anything wrong and that the card should go through. I went back to the hotel desk to verify how much they were trying to run the card for, and the guy said $945. So my bank had flagged it as an unusually large amount. I asked the desk people why I was being charged over a third more than my booking was supposed to be. Here's where the hotel issues come in. The guy started defending it, saying things like "oh there's an extra $100 for incidental charges automatically added in" and "oh that's including all taxes and fees" and shit that I guess he thought would end the discussion. No one had looked at the booking or asked what I had been quoted or anything. So I pulled up my email from them: "Here's my confirmation email stating $620.11...where does an additional $325 come from?" Only then did he look at the breakdown of the booking and realize it was completely wrong. Thinking about it later, I'm not sure they even had pulled up the right reservation. But both of them kept defending the cost, making shit up like the $100 additional they put on hold on my accound for "any incidentals"...even though the hotel offers nothing in the way of incidentals...no bar, no restaurant, nothing I could possibly charge to the room. They refused to listen to me or to realize they were in the wrong. So finally they worked it out by taking 10% off the original price of $620.11 so that I would only be charged that, including the mystery "incidentals". After that he handed me my key and that was done. Not a "I am so sorry for the confusion" or "We apologize for overcharging you by over 300 dollars" or "Let me upgrade you to a slightly larger room because you've already been here an hour and still not gotten into your room." Nothing. Not one word. Oh, and did I mention I had a broken foot? I just think a teeny tiny little bit of 1. customer service, 2. professionalism, and 3. ownership of the mistake goes a long way. After that, it was just more of the same. My t.v. wouldn't turn on, they came up and tried to fix it, got a new remote, etc. But I still had to get up to turn it off and on. The wifi didn't show up on my computer, so desk guy "rebooted the whole system" but it never worked. When I asked them about it again,they said "I don't know what to tell you." Again, in a nearly empty hotel, offering me a better room or ANYTHING would have gone a long way. Then after all that, I thought " At least I can get a drink in their little lounge, that's advertised on the hotel website AND on the sheet they gave me at check in." I went back down and asked where it was. "We don't have that any longer. But they are going to be putting it back in soon!" Like tonight soon? No I didn't think so. "You can walk over to the liquor store and they have bottles of wine." Sigh. So finally, after a very noisy and mediocre stay, I left. Last night I checked my charges to my credit card, and found the hotel had charged me...not the incorrect $945, not the $545 correct amount, but a random $684. I called today and asked them to send me an invoice, because upon leaving they had asked me to sign a sheet of paper verifying the total amount, but they didn't give me a copy of the sheet. So they just now emailed an invoice for $558.59. Yet another random amount. I went back to check my bank charges, and sure enough, the $684 amount now reads $558.59. So I recommend that you stay in a place run by a chain, where there's at least some kind of accountability, if you want to have a smooth stay in Boston! read more

Quaint little hotel in a converted row house. Staff have all taken a happy pill and are extra lovely (or maybe I'm just used to NYC ambivalence?), also don't know why I'm so excited by this - but the free water seems like a perk even when you're paying quite a bit per night so therefore it's really not that amazing when you consider the cost (we were also here for reunion weekend so Maybe it's just surge pricing?) Perfect location to the square, T and H grounds. So many great new restaurants have also popped up right around here so really a perfect spot. Star off for cost but really it's not their fault blame the market place, but still....I give to many 5 stars need to reign it in a little. read more

This is a darling, quiet little boutique hotel a few blocks from the square. It is the perfect spot if you're looking for something that's more contemporary than many other Cambridge offerings. Cozy fireplace and chic interiors in the lobby. Rooms are pretty darn small- think euro-style bedrooms with a full bed (disclaimer: perhaps they offer suites, I'm just reviewing my room). My room was also pretty cold despite the fact that I set the thermometer to 74-- be sure to bring warm pjs. Tv didn't work, but not a big deal for me. All in all, if you're coming for a brief stay, the Hotel Veritas is a nice little launchpad for your activities in Cambridge. read more

Just got back from a stay at the Hotel Veritas. It's a cute boutique hotel near Harvard. On the plus side, it was very close to Harvard and walking distance to the T. The reception area was nice with some sofas and a fireplace. They also offered complimentary coffee, orange juice and water. Beds were comfy and the free wi-fi was a nice touch, too. The people who worked there were very friendly and helpful. For the negatives, I thought the hotel was overpriced. The rooms were small (as others have stated). We had a small deck off of our room which looked over the roof - no view. And the deck had no chair or table, so I didn't really see the point of it. The window in our room looked out at a brick building. Bathroom was mediocre. Would I stay here again? Yes, but only at a lower reduced price! read more

Really gorgeous little hotel just outside Harvard Square... perfect location right on Mass Ave. We are from Boston but we like to stay at "fancy hotels" in the city for my birthday each year as a special treat. The Hotel Veritas did not disappoint. The room (we were in 401) was stunning, and we kept saying that we wanted it to be our actual bedroom. The colors were just so pretty and relaxing. The room also had a great balcony which of course would be more fun in the warmer months, but was nice to have. The only ever-so-slightly disappointing thing I can say is that we thought the lobby lounge was more of a bar based on the photos (even though there is not an actual bar pictured anywhere so that was our bad), and we had hoped to bring our friends back there after dinner at Grafton Street. But it wasn't exactly a bar that would have worked for 12 people, it was more a cozy spot in the beautifully decorated lobby where the hotel staff would serve you drinks or cheese plate appetizers (or that is how we understood it), and we thought it might be a bit too obnoxious of us to bring everyone back, since it was quieter and more intimate there than we first imagined before we arrived. In most cases this would definitely not have been a negative, because it would have been nice to have a drink on one of the plush couches if it had just been a weekend away with the two of us... so don't let it deter you unless you had planned to bring a crowd back. We ended up finding a great bar for everyone to go to (Russell House) and so the night was a success, and then we came home and slept wonderfully on the super-comfy bed! Free wifi and water in the rooms, and free bottled drinks (juice, etc) in the lobby was a great perk! Plenty of towels and pillows too! My wife and I stayed here this past Saturday, January 24. I'm always a little cautious when booking a boutique hotel, but I'm happy that we decided on Veritas. The staff is very friendly and approachable, and are happy to help out with recommendations and directions. The rooms are on the smaller side, when compared to other hotels, but for us it was plenty. No disappointments with this hotel during our two night stay over Memorial Day weekend. We got a good deal on hotels.com and decided to stay close to the Boston Calling music festival, which turned out to be great decision. This hotel is very inviting, and the room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was nicer than I might have expected given the size of the rooms. Bonus points for free waters and juices, etc. One night we were also pleased that even though it was past 11pm we could still have some wine sent to our room. Staff was all very friendly and helpful. Hotel Veritas is the quintessential boutique hotel. We were able to get a decent rate on Hotwire as we were staying in Cambridge for one night, and our experience was just fabulous. Staff was incredibly polite and courteous. This is at a great location, so close to Harvard Square and other shops and restaurants. The regular rate runs between $250-400 depending on which time you go. The lobby is beautiful, almost has a calm and soothing effect as soon as you walk in. There are velvety blue couches and comfortable chairs for you to lounge while you wait for your bags. It did not have that big hotel lobby feel which I really liked. The hotel does offer a gym pass to the studio across the street which I found to be a bonus, and they do have a business center with free wi-fi. The mini-bar by the front is a highlight. You can get free water, coffee, tea, pop and a little morning snack. The room was beautiful; loved the furniture, lighting fixtures, bathroom fixtures, bedding. Very clean and modern, yet cozy. The only downside was that despite being a queen, the room was on the small side. The bed pretty much took up all the room, but it is still so beautiful we didn't mind. A beautiful, intimate hotel with a great price and unbeatable location! The front desk staff was awesome and very helpful, offering tips on where to eat in Harvard Square (which is only a couple blocks away). The rooms are small, and my room didn't have a desk, but they have complimentary wifi, flat-screen tvs, ipod docks, and complimentary drinks (espresso, juice, water, pop). I would definitely stay here again, especially for the price ($90) I paid! read more

I've stayed here twice over the last few months and enjoyed my stay both times. The location in Cambridge is great because it's a 10 min drive to downtown, you're a few blocks from Harvard and there are a zillion restaurants nearby to choose from. The hotel has teeny tiny rooms (they barely fit the bed), but they're nicely decorated and I always felt safe being there by myself. The first time, the concierge at the front desk brought a razor to my room which saved my life! Their toiletries smell like old men's cologne so I don't use them, but the bathrooms are really nice and that's my only criticism of this hotel. They have laundry service available, free juice and coffee, they loaned me an umbrella when I needed one and the front desk staff were always friendly. Would definitely stay here again. They're also on the HotelTonight app which is how I got a better deal during one of my trips to Boston. read more
