This place totally stole my heart! I wasn't expecting what I found inside, and it wowed me! They have chocolates in just about every flavor you can imagine, and for the first time ever, we even found a 100% cacao bar They have truffles, desserts, drinks, chocolates (of course) the packaging is SO elevated, the service is excellent, and it's the perfect spot to pick up Christmas or birthday gifts. They even have a spot for you to sit and drink you hot coffee while you're trying your delicious treasures.
Love this chocolate shop!! Opened in the old Fox Trot, there's plenty of room for seating. If you're looking for some chocolate candies to grab and go, a gift for a friend, or even something to sip on while shopping down Armitage.. this place is the spot for you. I've gotten the dark hot chocolate before and thought it was really yummy! Weirdly I thought it could have been richer or sweeter, but someone that doesn't like a super rich hot chocolate would love it! I need to try some of their pastries- they all come with a cup of dipping chocolate! The banana bread looked outstanding and the dipping chocolate comes out of a fountain- the real Wonkas Chocolate Factory in here :) Overall I highly suggest anyone in the area to come by and stop in, they've got something for everyone!
Enjoyed this new addition to the Armitage shopping district. We went to check out all the different chocolate options this Black Friday and were pleasantly surprised by all the different options they have. They have been creative with their chocolates - everything from advent calendars to penguin cartoon molds and lots of gift packs for the holidays. We did indulge in their signature hot chocolate. I had the dark chocolate peppermint and it was delicious. Smooth and creamy but not too sweet. Great service as well. It was busy but all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Love their chocolate and their service. Stopped in while visiting Chicago as we heard they have one of the best quality chocolates around. They had a wide assortment of chocolates for any taste preference as well as several packages to choose from for personal consumption as well as for gifts. The prices were very reasonable, and during the holidays they had specials on their holiday packaged products. They also had a hot chocolate and pastry bar. We ordered the hot chocolate with a shot of expresso. It was excellent, not too sweet but you can definitely taste the richness of the chocolate. There is also a nice seating area to relax a bit while you drink your hot chocolate. Service was also very friendly, from the staff giving out samples to the barista at the hot chocolate bar, everyone was super nice. Would highly recommend a visit while you're in the city.
I've been here three times thinking maybe I just got the wrong thing. The pumpkin spice hot chocolate was bland. The white chocolate matcha tasted like regular matcha and the hot chocolate mint was the best but I've had better. The pastry was ok but kind of hard. Would have been better if they could toast it. They also had samples of the chocolates and it was not good. Very mid experience. Foxtrot has a better white chocolate matcha with mint.
saw someone walk out of here with a hot chocolate so we stopped in for one and it was so much more than that! The whipping cream was thick, creamy, and flavorful but not too sweet. I got the 50% milky hot chocolate which was not too sweet but not too bitter. perfect if you want something warm but not too sweet. My boyfriend got the salt he'd caramel hot chocolate which was also very good. It was sweeter but not overbearingly sweet. the store was super cute and offered an amazing variety of chocolates and samples of you were unsure what you wanted. I wish i took more photos inside. The service was quick and everyone was very kind and helpful! i like that they asked about dairy preferences and allergies

The Chocolat Baristas will give you the sweetest experience ever making each moment of your visit extra special. I chose the banana bread; a rich, moist circle of deliciousness. Each pastry item comes with a side of pouring chocolate. You have a choice of milk or dark. I chose milk and boy did it elevate my treat. For my drinks I chose the frozen hot chocolate; made with their famous ice cream and I added chocolate whip. I absolutely loved each sip. I also opted for a hot drink; coconut, white chocolate hot. I did not enjoy this one. The Chocolate Wall is another experience all on its own, so many choices. I decided on the strawberry champagne truffles and three chocolate treats; dizzy praline, fruit mix and millionaire shortbread. I have recently tasted each and YES, I approve. During your dine-in experience the Chocolat Baristas walk around with samples of their premium, hand crafted chocolates for you to sample. Oh yes! Going back very soon.
Listen the samples help cause we were literally about to walk out the door when they gave us two samples of their ice cream followed by milk chocolate caramel mini bars - so we stayed. 15 minutes later we got chocolate orange marmalade, amaretto, fruit & nut dark 80% chocolate. In addition we also got blood orange hot chocolate top with chocolate whip cream. The moto here is more cacao less sugar. They use a pod and a half of cacao which is 84 beans in their bar of chocolate vs the national brand named after a town in Pennsylvania that uses 3. Best of all the crew is really cool !
Such a cute little place to grab a hot chocolate for the winter. Went while it was snowing and the atmosphere was adorable. Nice service and menu selections with hot or frozen chocolate. Liked the honestly of the server about the whipped cream being better on frozen vs hot chocolate. Awesome place to grab chocolate gifts for that someone in your life who has a sweet tooth.
There is a kiosk with a preference taste test that recommends chocolates based on your preferences. My favorite chocolate so far is the strawberry cheesecake. You can get three six-piece chocolates for $20, which I thought was a good deal. The coffee shop has hot chocolate, drinking chocolate, coffee, tea, and ice cream. We got the white chocolate matcha (which was my favorite), salted caramel hot chocolate, and the white vanilla hot chocolate. Our barista and cashier were very friendly. They have some table, booth, and couch seating, which was very comfortable.
I was lucky enough to have stayed at Hotel Chocolat in St. Lucia where they get their beans and it was there that I was introduced to the whole concept of the "velvetizer". But, I digress. The chocolate here is whole different level. The drinks are delicious. I feel like the skim milk makes them not as sweet. The croissant was good as well. I can't say the service is fast but I'm assuming it takes a while to make the hot chocolate. There are usually a lot of workers but I don't think its very efficient. Also, service is not that friendly. I think there is room for improvement when it comes to service and ambiance as I didn't feel like there was much of one.
The staff here is efficient, courteous, and professional. It's a cute place for chocolate addicts to get their fix, but keep their motto in mind: "More cacao, less sugar." The taste, nevertheless, is exceptional. They have a Wall of Chocolate that's Worth spending time at. Unless you're looking to get a box, your best bet is to pick your favorites from the Wall of Chocolate.

Swung by hotel chocolat on a cold spring day. We got two hot chocolates: hazelnut praline and the raspberry praline. Raspberry praline was great but the hazelnut praline didn't taste that great. They had some tiramisu chocolate samples for us to taste and those were okayish, hence the three stars. I was excited after seeing all the truffle options but the taste isn't justified. The ambience is clean and there a few seating options. read more
I got the hazelnut hot chocolate $6. The hot chocolate flavor wasn't super rich. I could taste the hazelnut. Overall, wasn't that impressed by the hot chocolate. They did have samples of their chocolate pieces, which I liked! There was one with gooseberry that was delicious. Limited tables to sit inside, maybe 5-6 tables. Restrooms inside. read more

The store is beautifully organized and decorated and the staff were all friendly, but I felt like it was overhyped on instagram. We got a sample of hot chocolate and it reminded me of packaged hot chocolate mix. The chocolate pastry/croissant tasted kind of stale and dry, it wasn't buttery or anything. My friend and I also shared a chocolate shot which was way too rich and thick, definitely meant to dip than drink. The best thing I had was a plain iced latte. Despite not being a fan of the food/drinks, I think it's a fun place to explore and to buy speciality chocolates as a gift since everything is so pretty. read more
Lovely, chic storefront! We had the cube chocolatine which were beautifully laminated but clearly not from today. We had the chocolate shot with them and it made it better. The iced drinking chocolate is not as good as the hot chocolate in my opinion. I have a velvetizer at home and regularly order chocolate flakes from them. 70% is best in my opinion but there are other decent options, too. Do you need a velvetizer? Prob not but it's a fun splurge. It's like a milk frother but the whisk covers the more surface area. The wall of chocolat was fun to explore and it was difficult to choose just 3. They have chocolates and bars divided into categories on that wall. The staff was polite and attentive. They offered samples and advice on choices. I wish I lived closer I would come often for a treat. They serve metric coffee which I didn't have here, but I suspect would make a nice cup. read more

My daughter and I stopped in to explore the newly opened location, and everything felt sleek, modern, and straight-from-Europe fresh. The first thing that catches your eye? A striking "Wall of Chocolate" offering curated tasting flights for just $8. Seconds later, one of the friendly staff members approached us with a sample of their signature chocolates--an unexpected (and much appreciated) treat. Next up: two mesmerizing taps pouring warm, liquid chocolate. For $1.50, you can get a small cup and sip this molten magic. Rich, velvety, and deeply flavorful--it's worth every drop. Sadly, the soft-serve machine was down during our visit. I had my heart set on one of their decadent sundaes, which would've been perfect on a day like today. Before heading out, we tried their espresso with warm chocolate and a splash of milk. It was smooth, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Will this become a go-to for locals or more of a tourist treat? Too early to tell--but either way, it's worth stopping by for a sweet escape. read more
Hotel Chocolat is a lovely cute little spot to go with friends or on a date! Their variety of chocolate was phenomenal. We tried a few different hot chocolates and I was not entirely pleased with it. Consistency and tastes were not the kind I'm used to and like very much. But the reason I think this place is still worth a visit is because their kitchen brings up new chocolate they've made every so often and you can keep trying it! And I bought pistachio chocolate from there as well as puppy dog shaped chocolate bites and they were both SO good! read more

Hot chocolate weather has descended upon Chicago but I couldn't help but be drawn to the frozen blended chocolate drink. It might have been the thick looking chocolate whipped cream with the chocolate shavings pictured that made me order one instead of a hot chocolate. Imagine my disappointment when I received the cup and there was no chocolate shavings or whipped cream. They didn't let me know ahead of time when I ordered that they had run out, which I didn't understand if they ran out for the day or just at that moment. My friend ordered an iced chocolate drink with chocolate and a hint of clementine. There were a lot of chocolates to buy and plenty of seating as other shoppers leisurely browsed. read more

I visited Hotel Chocolate and had a fantastic experience. The chocolate was incredible and fresh. It tasted wonderful. I ordered the Caramel Hot Chocolate with whipped cream. I enjoyed the whole experience. The atmosphere was truly relaxing and soothing. I will certainly return.@hotelchocolatusa & @yelpchicago. read more
LOVED this place. and the prices are pretty reasonable. I bought 3 chocolate pkgs from the back wall (I think $3 for $20) Plus I got the best thing there, the FROZEN cocoa, 70%. Bye bye foxtrot! I have been so excited for Hotel Chocolat to open up on Armitage. It's in a great location with lots of street parking out front and also easy to walk to if you're in the LP area. We walked into a large store front with a good amount of seating around the corner. The sales associates were friendly and we tried several different samples. We got a cold milk chocolate drink with the whip and the strawberry cheesecake chocolates and both were delicious. We will be back soon! read more

I visited the Lincoln Park location of Hotel Chocolat. From the outside, it looked premium and classy, so I really wanted to give it a try. They specialize in chocolates and had some samplers out when I walked in. The samples were delicious. I ended up buying an assorted chocolate box and loved it so much that I finished it within a couple of days. The server was kind and helped me decide on the box I should get :) Excited to try more, I went back for their drinking chocolate. Unfortunately, it was disappointing. It didn't come close to the quality I've had at Max Brenner or even L.A. Burdick. They also serve ice cream, though I didn't try it this time. Overall, their chocolates are fantastic and worth trying, but the drinking chocolate fell short for me. read more

Wall of chocolate 3 for 20 I believe!! I got the milk chocolate mix, dark with macadamias nuts and milk chocolate with nuts!! Yummy! This place has a cafe and the vibes are just super earthy modern! Checkout at cafe counter they do have seats to sit and enjoy your chocolate whatever lol Cute place in the chi! Will be back when i return! read more

Ahh! This used to be Foxtrot. Remember that! This is the second location in the country. The first one opened a week ago (see our review). This is smaller that the first one. I had the Drinking Chocolate. The staff and service is always chocolatful. read more

Very kind staff and generous with sampling! My drinking chocolate was good, but was hoping it would be a little richer. Fun cafe side with comfy seats. They also give free dunking chocolate with a pastry purchase! read more

A very cool store that opened up in Lincoln square area. Chic modern chocolate store that also has a cafe serving decadent drinks including, obviously hot chocolate. The wall of chocolate is super fun and has every creative flavor imaginable. I bought and tried the carrot cake, their signature flavor and you can tell only high quality chocolate was used. Definitely a worthwhile store to hop in when doing some local shopping, great for gifts or some well deserved self indulgence. read more
