Maple pecan latte
Carrie M.

This is Chip and Johanna Gaines's fancy boutique hotel. I did not stay here but simply went to their coffee shop and sat in the lobby, which is open to the public. I noticed they don't have a separate Yelp page for the coffee shop. The library is gorgeous and has major dark academia vibes. It is reserved for hotel guests only, so I just took a quick peek and didn't linger. I got the maple pecan latte, which was a sweet and tasty drink that I enjoyed. There were plenty of college students studying here on a Sunday afternoon. We weren't able to get a comfortable height table at first, but one later opened up. They have some seats with awkwardly low coffee tables, which were mostly open. They have a lot of open space that could do with more tables and seating. The booth seating has outlets, but the other seating areas do not.

Really enjoyed the library.

I was so excited to spend my birthday here. I called to reserve my room for myself and a guest. I was saddened to discover I was overcharged and had to spend time calling to investigate. It's a newer hotel. Mistakes happen. I moved on. When we arrived at the hotel, it really is stunning in real life. The details in design were absolutely gorgeous. My room was clean and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The view was awful. I opened my windows to a sign obstructing my view....of the parking lot. Bummer. Whatever. We lounged in the bar for dinner, drinks, snacks. Had coffee and sandwiches to go at the coffee bar. The staff was mostly friendly. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't receive any special treatment for my birthday, which was really disappointing. Especially at this price point, I wish they would have acknowledged my birthday, since I happened to mention it 4,000 times. I've had better service at the Ritz for far less $$$. Sad. All in all, like another reviewer stated, it's a one time thing. I don't think I'd go back. If they can't muster a happy birthday after spending over a grand for 1 night, I won't bother next year.

Absolutely stunning. The Gaines crew has spared no corner or wall to be adorned with style and obvious care! I could happily live here forever! The main floor, lobby, restaurants, and library are my favorites!

Staff, especially Tatiana at the bar made our stay great on a Tuesday afternoon. Room takes you breath away when you first open the door. Jo and Chip and their Design Team did a fantastic job. A must add when you come to town. And the Happy hour 3-6 before Dinnner at Berties tops off the day.

Trying to figure where to start. The brick outside the front of the hotel are the original bricks. You enter into the hotel and immediately the reception area is beautifully done. The receptionist is friendly and welcomes you look around the hotel. Turn to the right and you face the sitting area of the cafe. Walk through the cafe and you will see the Library below. Continue walking and you will see a painting that will make you smile and laugh. Beyond the painting is the elevator that will take you to the breathtaking rooftop restaurant. It's amazing! The decor and the view! Back to the reception area. If you turn to the left you will enter another restaurant that is more casual than the rooftop. We had the 1928 double patty Smashed Burger with thick cut fries and their Pea Risotto with Truffle Mushrooms! Wow! I loved the way they designed and renovated everything to bring you back to the glamour of 1928. We plan to bring our entire family here for Christmas! A must see in Waco and a wonderful place for lunch and dinner.

Conducted a little business while I was there.

We stopped in for happy hour drinks and appetizers... We got the warm olives with GF bread and cowboy Xavier with corn chips. The ambiance is elegant. Lupe provided friendly and professional service. She made a great suggestion to visit West, TX for Czech pastries. Lovely brasserie!!

Chicken fried steak. Taste was amazing.

The food here is fantastic. Definitely recommend. Bar service was pretty slow and there wasn't that many tables either. Waitress was great and as I said so was the food. Biscuits and cornbread are great.

The vibe of this place feels like you're stepping back into the 1920's, which is such a nice place specially as a history nerd myself! My dad and I stopped in for coffee after doing a little photography walk here in Waco. To which the coffee is absolutely delicious!

My family and I only stayed here for one night last month for my birthday as there were no rooms available for a longer stay with the days I wanted. But one night was enough for us to experience it and say that we stayed at Chip and Joanna's hotel as it is pricey! And this is just for the basic Austin room. The hotel is beautiful and well done. It's so neat to watch the Fixer Upper: the hotel series and see it in real life. Everyone we've interacted with was so pleasant, from check in, to shopping at their hotel boutique, and to dining at both restaurants. The room we stayed at was beautiful and spacious for my husband and I along with our 5 month daughter. We had room to lay out our suitcase and for her pack and play and still walked around comfortably. And shortly after check in, we got a knock on our door from a sweet lady that brought us warm chocolate chip cookies and room slippers! What a sweet touch! Also, when we walked in the room, there was a card and champagne waiting for us as I made a note that we were celebrating my birthday. That was so special! My husband was really impressed with the rooms and that the walls weren't paper thin where we could hear our neighbors or people walking down the hall. The hotel offers valet parking only, but we found street parking at the front of the hotel and Waco's downtown parking is free! Overall, it's definitely worth it to stay overnight! From the show, each room is different so it's neat that if we were to come back, the room will be different than the last.

There is so much to unpack here.... First, five stars for Shawn in Bertie's. Great server, super attentive, and really cared about his customers. The risotto was excellent, the rest 2- 3 stars at best. Drinks very expensive for half-glass cocktails. More than four drinks in the menu they couldn't make due to an ingredient being out. Fudge cake? No, just a brownie imposter. Jam for the cornbread so runny it ran off the bread. More like juice than jam. The furniture was so wobbly in the restaurant, that not only were are seats rocking back and forth so was the table. Had to try to eat while holding on to drinks so they wouldn't fall off the table. The was on a design show correct? Manager in Bertie's did not visit any tables just scowled at customers. Dirty dishes left all over hotel and not one outlet had a bag to put our leftovers in. Store in hotel pretty barren with just a few overpriced items. This could be so much better with experienced hospitality people walking the hotel to make sure it is presentable. After a 2.5 hour drive for a birthday celebration, so disappointing.

Beautifully restored boutique hotel. Sleek art deco furnishings and atmosphere with polite, yet unpretentious service. Food in the restaurant just off the lobby is tasty and attuned to local tastes while still offering something for adventurous palates.

Thanks Lauren!

Another excellent dinner! Sat by the window, very comfortable spot on a rainy evening. Lauren was my server (see photo) and she knew the menu, recommended the steak salad wedge, which was very tasty, loaded with blue cheese and bacon, and I also ordered the pork chop (which I have had before. Delicious -- tender, perfectly cooked. This place has delicious coffee and I appreciate that Lauren made a fresh pot for me and brought regular refills of coffee before I requested it and then gave me a to go cup, which was a very nice way to end the meal. Excellent service and food. Thanks Lauren! I also wanted to acknowledge a young woman that Lauren was training, and regrettably, I forgot her name. She was very friendly and seemed to be catching on fast ... I ate at the downstairs restaurant, The Brasserie ... just FYI.

Actually we sent a few texts that were IMMEDIATELY answered. Impressive! Even in the largest of other hotels, it can take some time to get a real person. We were immediately texted when we had a question about parking, then accessing the room, and others. I read on one review that there are about 10 parking spots. Actually, there are probably 25 to 30 in the lot. We found that we could park in the lot with no issues at various times. NOTE: Some spots are marked with "Reserved Parking". I asked the hotel and they related that hotel guests can park in those spots. We were told about possible train noise. We did hear it a few times, but it wasn't bothersome. In fact, there were ear plugs in a black pouch in the bathroom should this be an issue. There was also live music in the 4th floor bar until midnight. We could hardly hear it & we were on the 4th floor as well. BTW, there are superior views of the silos from the rooftop and other places in the hotel.

As soon as I stepped in, I noticed how clean and modern the space felt. The design has a bright, minimalist aesthetic that gives off a very calm and refreshing vibe. After doing a bit of research, I found that Element markets itself as an extended stay hotel designed for the active traveler -- and that definitely came through in the details. Each room had a reusable water bottle, and all the water throughout the hotel is filtered, which I really appreciated. There was a mini fridge in the room, lots of built-in USB charging ports, and everything was set up to be functional, but sleek. The fitness room was a standout -- large, well air-conditioned, stocked with plenty of towels, and had all the essentials for a solid workout. I found out that they use the same beds as Westin Hotels, and it showed. Super comfortable mattress, plush pillows -- I slept really well. But honestly, what impressed me the most was the breakfast. It was complimentary, but far from your typical "budget hotel" buffet. Here's what stood out: * A yogurt bar with Chobani, fresh fruit, and nut toppings. * A variety of bagels, muffins, breads, and cereals. * Made-to-order hot breakfast options including a quinoa bowl, French toast, and an egg frittata with optional sausage. I went with the French toast -- a slice of toast cut in half, buttered, lightly sugared, and topped with powdered sugar and fresh berries (blueberries and strawberries). They even had a Nutella squeeze bottle, which was a fun and tasty touch. They also had a full-fledged cappuccino machine! It was such a pleasant surprise to be able to make a proper cappuccino in the morning. Overall, I had a great experience at Element Waco. With only a little over 100 Element Hotels across North America, it feels like a bit of a hidden gem. If I'm staying at a Marriott-brand hotel in the future, I'll definitely check to see if there's an Element in that city.

So naturally I called the front desk. That's when the comedy started. I was told the hotel has been having "backup generator issues all day" affecting the AC. Interesting considering the entire city of Waco has had zero widespread power issues today. I actually laughed out loud when she said it. Then I asked for a simple box fan. They had none. Ironically, placing a fan where the thermostat sensor detects motion would likely keep the AC from shutting off in the first place. What really sealed it was when I was told:"There is no motion sensor on the thermostat." ...immediately followed by an offer to move me to "a room with AC." Wait -- I thought the issue was the generators? And if there's no occupancy sensor, why did the AC magically turn back on the second movement was detected? The proof is literally on the thermostat screen. I don't mind problems. Hotels have issues sometimes. I DO mind being insulted with explanations that make absolutely no sense.
