Funny, I didn't see one hill in all of northwest Ohio, much less in the place called, "Ottawa Hills." Why you gota lie? So anyway, driving through Vistula, I noticed how it has its fair share of black people. I love soul food. Who doesn't? It is ground zero for American cuisine. I googled around, some places weren't open; some other places turned out to be closed permanently. Josephine's Kitchen was alive. Now they operate on CPT, that much has to be said. You know what that means? It doesn't matter, it's all love. I got the smothered pork chops with greens and mac n cheese. I chose corn bread over the dinner roll. Pork chops was falling off the bone. Greens was right. The $15 dollar plate of food must have weighed five pounds. They feedin ppl here. The proprietress was one of the most competent and hospitable women I have ever come across. A talented and humble woman.

I called ahead and my ordered was ready in 15 mins. Inside there is limited seating. Everyone was very nice. Mainly posting to update the menu pictures :)

Thanks to Doordash for remembering my ordered items. Prices are $10-15 for pub type food so not bad So this is your late night grub spot in my opinion. Its midnight. We got a couple versions of the soul rolls which are egg rolls with different items inside. We got the Philly cheesesteak roll, buffalo chicken, jerk chicken. Also tried burgers and chilli cheese fries. They really need to upgrade their to go containers. The prices are inflated when using Doordash so use it to upgrade your to go. They are using the cheap styrofoam containers and you have egg roll type items so guess what happens when you get them? You get soggy egg rolls. Especially the jerk and buffalo chicken. They put the jerk and buffalo sauce on the outside of the Roll so it's just a soggy mess that honestly I got tired of fooling with it. Should be able to pick up n eat an eggroll. The flavor and everything was okay but the point of getting an egg roll is to have that crunchy type taste right?. The burger was well done with no options to remove onions or other items you don't like. It had zero flavor to me. The best thing that I had was the chili cheese fries and I don't particularly like chili but it was after midnight so post bar food. I think if they upgrade their to-go containers the rolls could be a highlight but for right now I'm cool on ordering from them.

I'm not gonna pretend I *KNOW* soul food. I never lived in the South, or anywhere that's known for…read moretheir soul food offering. The only experience I have are from my L.A. days. You'll always come across those mom-n-pop grandma's recipe shops, and you'll also find a little better known places like Roscoe's Chicken. Between all of those experiences, I'll just say I have a little taste of what a good soul place should feel like and taste like. Went with a family on a Sunday, and the place was empty. You can definitely tell it's a family-run business by the way all of the staff talk to each other. Nicely put, very homey. Not-so-nicely put, very unprofessional. Again, depends on the person. I don't mind the homeyness of the place as long as they get their jobs done. In our experience though, it wasn't so. Ordering the food was actually plenty pleasing and even entertaining. Girl at the counter was very nice about explaining their menus and what to and not to get currently. I took their recommendations and went with a pig feet plate, chicken plate, and a few side items for my wife and daughter. Food took way too long to come out. Again, had what came out been great, it wouldn't have mattered. I would have accepted that good home-cooked meal can take a little longer than norm. But that wasn't the case, either. Pig feet and chicken were both just okay and side dishes were overdone. It really was unacceptable what came out after 45 minutes of waiting. I still ended up finishing my pig feet plate and we packed the rest home. I don't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure I was the one who had to finish up the leftovers, for my wife and daughter didn't touch it neither there or at home. I really wanted to like them. I guess I'll move onto the other two soul food places I have bookmarked.

Nope. I could leave…read morereview at that, but you likely want details... Lemme start by saying that I was excited to see a soul food restaurant in Toledo and that Sunday's had a buffet. That sounded great!!! Walk in for the $13/$13.99 Sunday buffet, and pay up front. The good is behind glass, you tell the server what you want, and she puts it on a plate. I love this sanitary approach! But the food...y'all it is so bad. -The fried chicken (dark meat) had a good crisp but no flavor. -The black eye peas were ok. - The mashed potatoes I SWEAR TO GOD WERE OUT OF A BOX. These were not real potatoes and I am so angry a "soul food" restaurant is serving this garbage. - the turkey was meh - the dressing with the turkey made the turkey taste better for sure. But was just ok. - the lemonade had a bad flavor. Maybe they used a mix and out too much mix in? I was unhappy but the. The potatoes made me rage. Ugh! That said, the service was exemplary. The young woman working the front did an amazing job.

Lowrider Cafe - Breakfast tacos with chorizo. Even better than they look.

Yet another five star review! Hooray for consistency!!…read more I have been transitioning out of the bedside nursing and into more of a marketing role for the past six months. I have now met four different people here for lunch or picked up breakfast tacos for meetings. Every time the food is stellar. And all four times no one had heard of this place. Why are people not screaming about Lowrider Café from the rooftops? The food, already said hands-down amazing. The service? Always spot on! The owners should be on the shortlist for Toledo philanthropic business owners. When you come in here, you can also purchase a meal for someone who's homeless. They employ people that others wouldn't, and honestly, I'm here for it! I love seeing a local business that gives back to its community. You want specialty coffee? They've got it. Do you want fresh salsa to rival any other salsa in Toledo? They've got that too. You want to buy some great locally handcrafted bags/clothing/unique gift items? They've got you covered. You want a chill spot with a great vibe that just radiates good karma? Come on into low Rider. Bring a couple extra box and buy a taco for someone else too. You'll feel great about the Boy Scout deed. It's a karmic double win- not only are you feeding a local business, but you're also feeding someone who couldn't otherwise afford to feed themselves. This is food that doesn't just feed your belly and feed your soul.

My man has been talking about this place forever and raved about the tacos. So now that they got on GrubHub I can get delivery because they have some very odd hours. We ordered a breakfast taco with chorizo and egg chips and quesabirria tacos and the man was extra hungry so he even added in a couple hot dogs with fries. Now at this point it was almost closing time and I always tell him do not order food when it's near closing but he wanted it so we got it. So we didn't get any queso with the chips which is a little bit of a big deal for me because I don't particularly like salsa so if I get chips I get queso so since I didn't get any queso the chips are still sitting on the counter 3 days later. The breakfast taco was okay. Way too much cilantro in there. He ate his quesabirria tacos and he seemed to be mostly pleased. The hot dog completely sucked. Just no flavor and we threw the second away. Fries needed salt added. But.. I would have never ordered it from here myself personally but I tried it because hey it's here. It really didn't taste very good and there's no option to take off like onions or anything if you order online. Something for lowrider to think about for their online orders. Not everybody wants onion and relish on their hot dog. I'm impressed with the place because I know they do a lot for the homeless community but as for the food it's just average to me I've had way better in Texas and out west.
