So anyway, driving through Vistula, I noticed how it has its fair share of black people. I love soul food. Who doesn't? It is ground zero for American cuisine. I googled around, some places weren't open; some other places turned out to be closed permanently. Josephine's Kitchen was alive. Now they operate on CPT, that much has to be said. You know what that means? It doesn't matter, it's all love. I got the smothered pork chops with greens and mac n cheese. I chose corn bread over the dinner roll. Pork chops was falling off the bone. Greens was right. The $15 dollar plate of food must have weighed five pounds. They feedin ppl here. The proprietress was one of the most competent and hospitable women I have ever come across. Excuse my ignorance by a slab of ribs sitting on 2 pieces of white bread WITH bones a "sandwich" does not make - they were pedestrian at best - bland - sauce was stock no depth or taste you'd expect with quality ribs - meat was bland no real taste somewhat dry ate some cole slaw for "juice" - no special spicing or any real spicing at all - THE BONES were 80% of the slab extremely disappointing - Cole slaw was basic stock no special seasoning or "wow" taste - again frozen fries cooked in any quantity served are still frozen - my mama uses REAL potatoes takes very little effort - overall cannot recommend based on beyond ordinary food quality with no special "hook" to separate them from any other ordinary cookie cutter place for food despite exceptional service and warm environment

Also tried burgers and chilli cheese fries. They really need to upgrade their to go containers. The prices are inflated when using Doordash so use it to upgrade your to go. They are using the cheap styrofoam containers and you have egg roll type items so guess what happens when you get them? You get soggy egg rolls. Especially the jerk and buffalo chicken. They put the jerk and buffalo sauce on the outside of the Roll so it's just a soggy mess that honestly I got tired of fooling with it. Should be able to pick up n eat an eggroll. The flavor and everything was okay but the point of getting an egg roll is to have that crunchy type taste right?. The burger was well done with no options to remove onions or other items you don't like. It had zero flavor to me. The current tenants are serving up a mixed bag of southern fare, burgers and a bit of soul food along the way. Sadly today, the one thing they were out of was the one thing I came in for... the gumbo. Long story short, I will be back because I've heard it's really good. As for the burgers? Super fresh with a home cooking vibe. The fries? Cooked to order with skins on and really great! I added cheese and recommend you do as well. To note: their menu is super limited in addition to their "daily" specials, but it looks like their "daily" specials might be available all the time. Also note: beverage offerings are super limited. There was enough stuff on it that I really didn't miss having a dressing (I do like oil and vinegar - but again, wouldn't get that on an order being delivered in). Was the salad the best ever? The restaurant is reasonably clean and the store is well stocked. I have not experienced a wait, even if there were charter buses in the parking lot. The service is good; my regular server recently retired, but she was great and greeted me personally and knew my order specifics. The hosts and hostesses are friendly as well. The food is standard Cracker Barrel, which is pretty good in my opinion. I enjoy their pancakes with peach topping, broccoli cheddar chicken and macaroni and cheese. The pancakes are a little crispy on the edges and go wonderfully with the peach compote that is served warm on top of the pancakes. The broccoli cheddar chicken is a Wednesday special that is topped with crumbled Ritz crackers. The creamy sauce and crispy crackers make it a very pleasant dish. Overall, this is an above average example of this chain and I will return regularly.
