My food was cold and under seasoned staff was pretty friendly, but don't mean to sound condescending, but you know how our people are

I don't know Toledo like that. My first time here, I passed through the Vistula Historic District…read moreon my way out to do some work in the Ottawa Hills area. Funny, I didn't see one hill in all of northwest Ohio, much less in the place called, "Ottawa Hills." Why you gota lie? So anyway, driving through Vistula, I noticed how it has its fair share of black people. I love soul food. Who doesn't? It is ground zero for American cuisine. I googled around, some places weren't open; some other places turned out to be closed permanently. Josephine's Kitchen was alive. Now they operate on CPT, that much has to be said. You know what that means? It doesn't matter, it's all love. I got the smothered pork chops with greens and mac n cheese. I chose corn bread over the dinner roll. Pork chops was falling off the bone. Greens was right. The $15 dollar plate of food must have weighed five pounds. They feedin ppl here. The proprietress was one of the most competent and hospitable women I have ever come across. A talented and humble woman.

Ordered the meatloaf Sunday dinner. Absurdly huge slice of a dense meatloaf with gravy. Very tasty…read more Came with two sides and a bread option (roll or cornbread) I went with the Mac and cheese which was extra buttery and yummy and the greens which were a little salty for my taste (but I think most would disagree with me). I called ahead and my ordered was ready in 15 mins. Inside there is limited seating. Everyone was very nice. Mainly posting to update the menu pictures :)

One of my favorite food reviewers enjoyed the food here so I gave it 2 tries. I did get these…read moreorders to go which most seem to do here. Thanks to Doordash for remembering my ordered items. Prices are $10-15 for pub type food so not bad So this is your late night grub spot in my opinion. Its midnight. We got a couple versions of the soul rolls which are egg rolls with different items inside. We got the Philly cheesesteak roll, buffalo chicken, jerk chicken. Also tried burgers and chilli cheese fries. They really need to upgrade their to go containers. The prices are inflated when using Doordash so use it to upgrade your to go. They are using the cheap styrofoam containers and you have egg roll type items so guess what happens when you get them? You get soggy egg rolls. Especially the jerk and buffalo chicken. They put the jerk and buffalo sauce on the outside of the Roll so it's just a soggy mess that honestly I got tired of fooling with it. Should be able to pick up n eat an eggroll. The flavor and everything was okay but the point of getting an egg roll is to have that crunchy type taste right?. The burger was well done with no options to remove onions or other items you don't like. It had zero flavor to me. The best thing that I had was the chili cheese fries and I don't particularly like chili but it was after midnight so post bar food. I think if they upgrade their to-go containers the rolls could be a highlight but for right now I'm cool on ordering from them.

The current tenants are serving up a mixed bag of southern fare, burgers and a bit of soul food along the way. Sadly today, the one thing they were out of was the one thing I came in for... the gumbo. Long story short, I will be back because I've heard it's really good. As for the burgers? Super fresh with a home cooking vibe. The fries? Cooked to order with skins on and really great! I added cheese and recommend you do as well. To note: their menu is super limited in addition to their "daily" specials, but it looks like their "daily" specials might be available all the time. Also note: beverage offerings are super limited. No tea or coffee. Just canned soda and bottled water. Next visit, I'm going to hopefully try that gumbo... and maybe some fried fish. Hoping this small joint succeeds, as it adds a missing element to downtown Toledo. Super friendly staff and great prices. This is not fancy food, it's just good food.

I was visiting our office downtown and the meeting group planned to order in. I didn't want to be…read morehigh maintenance, so I just ordered a salad - no dressing. I didn't request chicken or anything on it as I didn't want to spend the extra money (or have the company pay extra, more precisely). Our orders were called in and I didn't think anything further of it. When the order arrived, the staff handed out containers of food. I waited and waited and waited. At the end, there was an extra grilled chicken salad (what I would have ordered if I really got what I wanted) - and they handed it to me. YAY! The salad was much like a cobb - with some mixed greens in addition to iceberg lettuce. There was some cheddar, cukes, egg, cut up chicken breast and more. It came with dressing, but I do eat my salads dry. There was enough stuff on it that I really didn't miss having a dressing (I do like oil and vinegar - but again, wouldn't get that on an order being delivered in). Was the salad the best ever? No. But considering I had packed fruit and assume they would bring in something I don't eat, I was quite happy and enjoyed my lunch. I would definitely order this again so I return and be given the same menu options.
