This place used to be worth the drive and the House Special Chicken was the reason you went. It was the anchor dish. Now it is gone, erased as if it never mattered. Under prior ownership, this was a destination. People drove in from surrounding cities. After moving out of the area, I would drive hundreds of miles out of my way to eat here. That was not nostalgia talking - the food used to be that good. This was one of the first three locations of Pick Up Stix. After the split, Hot Wok, now branded HTWK, kept the House Special Chicken on the menu and kept the original recipe alive for years. They understood what made people show up. The new ownership did not. Somehow they looked at what was a proven formula, a loyal following, and a signature dish that built the brand, and decided the problem was vision. They removed the very item that defined the place and expected the reputation to remain intact. It did not. This is no longer the restaurant people plan trips around. It is what happens when management mistakes change for "progress" and forgets why customers came in the first place. They had a good thing and killed it. read more

We have been going here for years and years and the food has always been really good. My only negatives that were huge turn offs this last time was that if you are dining in, your table will be sharing 1 IPad for a menu. You can tell it's not sanitized between tables because of all the finger smudges so after scrolling through you feel the need to go wash your hands. It was pretty gross. My wife and I ordered from this place last weekend for D&D night. The selection of sushi to order from in this area is, unfortunately, lacking. But, this looked like the best go-to on Doordash. All in all, we got a pretty significant order; a tuna roll (which I'll come back to later), a Surprise roll, a Rainbow roll, Spicy tuna, and a handful of other things that I can't remember at the moment. The order came in a reasonable amount of time; maybe an hour or so? That's pretty much been my experience when ordering from DD - which is not to say there's an issue with the service or Dasher, just that the average time to prepare and get someone to deliver is about an hour. So, no disappointment there. Overall, the rolls that I ordered were good. The seafood itself wasn't 'off-the-boat' fresh and pristine, but for San Jacinto, it was on-par with the other sushi that I've gotten here. Overall, a good 8/10 (which sounds odd to say about sushi, right?). The tuna roll was a little odd. Traditionally, it's tuna, rice, and seaweed. That's it. It's pretty much the simplest thing one can make. Hot Wok seems to have an alternate recipe. It's rice on the outside (a lot of rice), then the seaweed, then tuna, avocado, and cucumber. After reading the reviews here, I'm trying to puzzle out if we were the lucky ones or if this place has gone and had a change for the better. Hopefully that's the case. read more

When you order a sushi roll you should get at least 1 spicy mayo per roll and the chilli oil is usually free. I got charged for the spicy mayo, the smallest chilli oil and then we asked for her to fill up our tea cup with tea and she was almost not going to do it. We asked for napkins and were given two. I just wish that they'd give free sauce, at least one per item. I've never been charged at any sushi place. read more

Hot wok was one of my wife and I favorite places since we were in High school. We moved out of town in 2017. Visiting family during the holidays and we decided we wanted to try some again because it's been a while. The restaurant seems to have cut a lot of corners during the pandemic and it's very noticeable in the taste of the meals/sushi. Dishes that were our faves don't seem the same. Plus it's 2023 who charges for refills at a regular restaurant. Plus they're blasting EDM music, loud, seems like they don't want people coming in and staying. I miss the old ambiance of Hot wok. I sat their any way , but she insisted I had to wait outside. She didn't give me any explanation why I couldn't wait at the bar. Ordered here for the first time and won't go back. We got a mix of Chinese and sushi to see how both food were. The Chinese was not good, had no flavor at all and lacked quality. (Panda Express is better).... on to the sushi. Rolls are not too expensive and you can tell why. They fish doesn't taste fresh and once again the sushi lacked any flavor and was bland. ( I've gotten better sushi at stater bros). In long story short, we won't be returning here, my husband and I up the next day with stomach aches from eating here. We went in to try the firecracker onion rings , they were sooo good a taste bud explosion in your mouth I ordered the beef Teriayaki bento&& it was delicious.
