Not something I would eat regularly. My family and relatives always get Hot Vit Lon from here too. I always ask for young ones so I don't eat their baby "feathers". (PSA for noobs like me: COOK the baluts first!!!!!!) Located in a shopping center lined with several Vietnamese restaurants and bakeries, we happened to pass by and noticed a long line for their sugarcane lemonade--so of course we had to try it. Inside, they also sell chicken and duck balut. I had never bought balut before and assumed they were already cooked. Big mistake, I cracked them open at home and found a raw, bloody interior. So if you're not familiar with balut--make sure to wash and COOK them first! Lol. There were no instructions and the ladies didn't tell us, probably because of the language barrier. Thankfully I only bought and wasted two. I'll definitely give them another try next time. As for the sugarcane lemonade, it was unique. My family and I aren't really used to the flavor yet, I'm sure we will like it more the next time around, but I think I'd prefer the plain sugarcane without the lemon. read more

Instead, "Hot Vit Lon Long An" is a tiny, no-frills, no-nonsense shop that sells fresh pressed sugarcane juice. They do sell other items, but we were strictly there for the juice. The Nuóc Mía is fresh, & the employees are kind. The only downside: they no longer had fresh kumquat juice as an add-on...they only had a tangerine add-on which made the drink much too sweet for us. Still my favorite place to get sugarcane (nuoc mia). Don't expect anything fancy as this place is super traditional, just pure sugarcane and kumquat if you like a little citrus. I believe their sugarcanes are home grown. Every time I'm in this area, I have to come here and order a cup because it's so nostalgic for my childhood and their sugarcane is just one of the best. I would dare to even say it's better than Cococane too and the price is still lower than all the overhyped places because their overhead cost might be lower as they only accept cash. This place has my dad's seal of approval for hot vit lon or balut in tagalog. He has many fond memories of eating this in his mother country, Philippines and kept talking about a place he heard about from a friend's daughter in Westminster which we mistakened for Balut Pateros. While that place is also good, they did not have as much variety of balut maturity and we were always at the mercy of whatever they had which tended to be less days than my dad would like since he likes an older egg because "it's more bang for your buck" as he proclaims. A lot of the reviews here mention more "mature" eggs, and that's somewhat right. Pro tip: mention how many days old you would like your balut to be. Anything on the 18 to 20 mark is going to be a little bit "jungle asian" with maybe a tiny foot or a tiny eyeball or both. If you want something on the hey this seems like a soupy egg variety, your best bet is 10 to 15 days. I got 3 ea of 18 days and 20 days and they were fabulous! The soup is extremely tasty, moreso than Balut Pateros and the yolk wasn't too overly done. We boiled them for about 18 minutes and they were perfect. To eat, if you're hardcore you'll eat it with your hand like a boiled egg. If you're wimpy like me, you can set it on a shot glass or egg holder and eat it with a spoon since it will be hot. We usually season with a bit of salt and pepper or some vinegar with chilli. They also sell some salted duck eggs, chicken eggs and chicken balut here as well. A friend recommended this place so we stopped by for some balut eggs before heading back to Bakersfield. We ordered 24 balut eggs and other stuffs as we do not live here in Bolsa. I've been coming here since I was in elementary school. I have fond memories of road trips from San Francisco to Los Angeles and stopping here to get a dozen or two of balut to enjoy at our relative's house and to take home. I'm so glad they're still open and have weathered the pandemic. This place hasn't changed much from back in the days, except that there used to be more varieties of eggs on display that you can buy - from duck eggs to goose eggs and even ostrich eggs. I've only purchased chicken and duck eggs (balut to be exact). The prices are quite reasonable, specially knowing that you're getting fresh eggs. My favorite thing about getting my balut here is that you can choose the level of development/size of the fetus! They sell the whole spectrum and trust me, large is quite large! The service here is typical of a Vietnamese market and unless you speak Vietnamese, it's pretty straight forward order and pay. Don't forget to pick up a bunch of Rau Ram (Vietnamese Coriander) to accompany your balut. I've noticed that their Rau Ram is more fresh, with larger leaves than what the markets sell. The man behind the counter didn't speak much English and I had forgotten what the herb was called in Vietnamese, but luckily I saw a bag behind the counter and pointed to it. So if you don't know what it's called, just google it on your phone and show them a picture. Next time you're in the Westminster area, make sure to stop by and get yourself some fresh balut or eggs of all sorts. read more

I remember I would take my grandma to ABC supermarket and I'd always look forward to stopping by here to get some nuoc mia/sugar cane juice when I was younger. The area is generally chaotic when it comes to customers going in and out, but that's entirely normal. In my recent visit though, I handed over a $20 for a large nuoc Mia which was $5, but the worker didn't give me any change back. Once I realized she was giving off the impression that the transaction was done, I had to be persistent with following up and emphasized that I gave her a $20. She was adamant on pretending she never got a $20, but eventually she caved and gave me my change back. It was embarrassing, but not surprising either.
