We were pretty disappointed when Romana Pizza in N. Burnaby closed. I think Hot Spot pizza is better. We order the Hawaiian Supreme w/out mushrooms, and it is excellent. This place used to be awesome, now it's still good but they aren't at the same level. I used to love the glazed crust but they stopped doing that. The menu needs an update. Do people actually buy the spam or hot dog ones? How about a seafood? I'd order that every week. Id say keep the ones that sell and update the rest. I read some of the reviews for this restaurant and I simply can't understand them. First of all, this place is family owned. The staff have not changed since it opened. The guy who answers the phone is the guy that brings your order and is possibly the owner. I didn't get a chance to speak to him myself, but I over heard him speaking and he was extremely courteous. The food is simply amazing. I don't eat bread, so we ordered the following: Sweet Chilli Chicken Wings (20) - These were shiny, perfectly seasoned without being too-sauced Meatballs in Sauce - Oh my god. Best meatballs I've ever had from a restaurant. The sauce is just a little spicy, thick, and packed with extra meat. So satisfying. Large Greek Salad - I am a feta cheese fanatic, so I know when it's done right. This was done right. Lots of olives, crisp cucumber, firm tomato, and small pieces of onion. Let's just say we have leftovers, but not a lot of them. The meatballs didn't stand a chance. Mr. J has ordered from this place for years and he advised me that three years ago when he ordered meatballs they were very much the same and equally worthy of praise. This was my first Burnaby delivery experience and they more than earned their 5 stars. We only order anything for delivery maybe once a year, but I know we will be back. Thanks for saving me yet again after a long day at work and no desire to cook! We've had the Carnivore, Canuck, Baked Lasagna with Meatballs and the Jalapeno Poppers (they are awesomely hoooooooooottt!) Tonight we ordered our favourite - the Hot Oven Select. It's stuffed - trust me, order it. Staff has been friendly when I've called to order, gone in to pick up and delivery has been quick. While they tell you the usual "45 minutes to 1 hour" for delivery, I've waited tops 40 minutes. I don't find the prices to be high, the ingredients taste fresh and there's so much, I'll pay for that. read more

Daring pizza lovers, I present to you: Hot Oven Pizza (and Pasta). When I say 'daring', I'm not talking about loading your pizza with spicy banana peppers or ordering a pan-sized lettuce-laden monstrosity that's supposed to resemble a taco (I'm looking at you, Panago). No. I'm talking about utilizing common food items (and dare I say, uncommon?) and fusing them with toppings we have never visualized on a pizza. Here are some examples: "Spam" - Spam, potato, corn, onion and gravy. "Chili Dog" - Meat sauce, hot dog, banana peppers and cheddar. "Tuna Melt" - Tuna, onion, tomato and cheddar. My favourite? Hands-down "The Orient". Where else can you find BBQ duck, chicken, green onion and tomatoes in a deep-dish pizza? Aside from the aforementioned pizza creations, there are also the classics and create-your-own. The pizza itself and dough is not overly greasy, but it is packed with toppings so you might mistake juice and sauce for grease. At the end of the day, these pizzas are delicious and they will fill you up - that's what we're looking for, right? read more

The myth and legend surrounding this place is almost incredible, not unlike a restaurant like Antons has a restaurant been hyped up so much, and like so many of these hyped up restaurants, they fail to deliver, none moreso then Hot Oven. My friend lives in the area, and once in a while we'd drop by and pick up usually the same old same old which to us is: 1 Large Hot Oven Select 1 Carnivore 1 Baked Ravioli Based on these three items, the food does not dissapoint. It's weighty, tasty, and generally very well done. Just don't tell any of the staff this. I live 9 KM away from their store, and have called countless times asking them if they can deliver to me. They say they can't and that it's too far. So Apparently a 9 KM delivery which would take 20 minutes is too far. Bull! So the last time, I made a point to take a cab across town to their shop and I asked them why they don't deliver for what would be a 20 minute drive and the person up front slammed my pizza box on the counter, and walked away telling me they wouldn't serve me the pizza. I'm frankly shocked, and while I mentioned I enjoy their pizza, it's not worth the stress and hassle. No one from Panago, Bella, or even Flying Wedge slams a pizza on a counter, refuses me service, and storms off. You're reading this wondering if this place is worth it. It's not. read more

I was lucky enough to win a Family Pack from Hot Oven Pizza a few weeks ago, just in time for the Canucks vs. Blackhawks game. In the spirit of hockey and pure irony, we ordered a Canucks "Chicago style" pizza. The Family Pack came with a lasagna, Caesar salad and 2 pieces of garlic bread. While the toppings itself was delicious, Hot Oven Pizza reconfirmed why I'm not a huge fan of Chicago-style pizzas. Whether it be the fault of the style of pizza, or the one who made it, I found that the deep-dish pizza left the thick-crust below the toppings soggy from the pasta sauce and oils from the meat. There's nothing much to be said about the salad or garlic bread, except the bread was slightly burnt. No big deal. The lasagna - fortunate for me, unfortunate for them - was delicious. It was cheese-loaded (a huge plus in my eyes), meaty and flavourful. It also had a wonderful tang in the tomato sauce which I can't quite put my finger on. I will most likely order from them again, considering my choices split between them and Pizza Hut or Panagos, but it might just be for the lasagna. read more

Ordered a Hot Oven Select pizza and some honey garlic wings for delivery. I wasn't expecting much from this place, as I've had some bad experiences with a couple of other family owned pizza places in the area. Was pleasantly surprised that this was actually really good. The food came in around 45 minutes, which was pretty standard with a lot of pizza delivery. A bit on the expensive side though. About $5 more for a medium compared to the big chain pizza places... but worth it. The honey garlic sauce on the wings was great. Some of the best wings I've had, actually. The pizza was very good though. It was a deep dish pizza. Not as deep as I thought it'd be, but thicker than your average pizza. The crust was amazing. It was light and crisp, and easy to bite through. The toppings were spot on. Great flavour. Loved it - can't wait to try more of their selection, and maybe their pasta too. read more

We just ordered three pizzas from here: Alexandra the Greek, Pesto Pollo, and the Canuck. I found the pizzas to be okay. It wasn't my favorite. But I did like that they were loaded with toppings. But maybe it was too juicy for my liking. Also, the crust had a sweet glaze on it which I wasn't sure if I liked. What I did like was that the Canuck pizza had real bacon on it... mmm! read more

Fresh and Yum - I think this joint is Asian run, perhaps Korean, and boy do they ever know how to make a decent pizza! The toppings are generous and fresh, like other reviewers have noted and the crust is fairly ample (although not as good as Bella's Pizza - I am more partial to a traditional, crusty on the outside-soft on the inside yeast-leavened crust - just my preference). Hot Oven's is softer and a bit more lipidy (is that a word?) - like they've used oil or shortening in their crust. We had the Greek - feta, tomato, peppers, black olives & onion - it was thick with toppings. This is not a pretentious pizza - think prairie Greek restaurant pizza and you'll catch my drift. Good ingredients, but nothing sundried or thrown on top as a whole leaf. Good crust, not soggy, brushed w garlic oil after going in the oven. It was about 1" deep, and crust built up like a rim. Ordered a pizza here one night on a walk-in with a friend. This was the first time I tried Hot Oven. Ordered a medium with a few toppings and the price came to around $20, which I found to be slightly on the expensive side. Pizza came about 15 minutes later. Since we were eating in we were given a paper plate and some napkins. The pizza was alright. Not greasy at all and that was with extra cheese. As we were finishing the meal, the delivery man, who had just spent 2-3 minutes parking his car, entered the store and began swearing at us for staring at him and laughing as he tried to park correctly. Swearing at paying customers is no way to do business so for that reason I would not return to this establishment. read more

I love pizza and absolutely love Hot Oven! They use good quality stuff for their toppings and pile them on high, covered with a layer of cheese that makes every bite delicious. Their tomato sauce is nice and zesty and the sweet glaze on the crust just adds that extra kick of flavor that really makes these pizzas so great. This place is still just as good now as when they first opened, which is unfortunately not common. My husband and I live in Vancouver, but when we get a hankering for some delicious deep-dish style pizza we can't think of a better place. I live in the neighborhood so I have tried many places in this area! This one is just OK. I wouldnt reccommend it. It is a good snack to grab if you are not in the mood to cook and want something quick. Honestly you are better off going to Da Mario across the street for some real Italian food. I have only tried the lasagna here but it is nothing to rave about. It tastes like a packaged lasagna that you would purchase from the grocery store... except if is much more expensive. This is my favourite pizza place. I have to say, that pepperoni is the best as the provolone and pepperoni combination are unbelievable. The crust is a real pizza pie made fresh and deep.
