This place is DIVEY but don't let that fool you. The food was very good and the service was fantastic. I don't know if they were short staffed but there was only one waiter. And he was a ROCK STAR! I arrived right after a large group and a few other tables. Israel was fast and attentive! I had the liver and onions and it was very tasty. A nice size portion and you are able to select 2 sides with your meal. The menu is typical diner fare and was expansive. I did notice that they have a Friday Fish Fry. This is a nondescript, humble restaurant. I ordered to-go and got myself a triple decker sandwich with hash browns and seasoned fries. This cost me $16.44. The sandwich was just absolutely delicious. Pulling up and the place is named Ollie's on the outside. Walked in and the place was empty. It looks like they took care in painting and having it be clean. We had our pick of tables. The waiter was very nice and attentive. The food seems to have been good overall. The biscuits and gravy were not the best the gravy tasted very much like flour. I didn't not care for the type of cheese on the tuna melt it seemed very plasticy. As far as The pancakes with strawberry, he loves the strawberries saying they were really sweet but he said the pancakes lacked flavor. Seemed fluffy but were more dense. I don't eat them so I am no help on that one. Eventually a few more tables did show up. I would go back to try something new. read more

I've been going here for years when it was called Ollies. It's gone through a few different ownerships and now it's called Hotspot 51. Overall, the food is just okay. Portion sizes could be a little larger and the coffee could be better. The corned beef was tasty, but there wasn't a lot of it. The over easy eggs were nicely cooked. My date got scrambled eggs and it was probably the worst scrambled egg I've ever seen in my life. The egg was not even scrambled. It looked like they just crack the egg on the grill and mixed it up a little bit, then it was over cooked. The young man who was our server was above average. Pleasant, efficient and personable. In short this place was a disappointment. Every review I saw mentioned amazing service and the food looked amazing! Unfortunately I never got to see my food. My wife, her Tia, and I arrived at 1145. We seated ourselves after greeting one of the servers, we were the only people sitting in the restaurant(another couple was leaving as we came in). We waited 10 mins for coffee and a menu and it was another 20 mins before anyone came to take our order. After ordering another group came in and ordered their food. We waited another 45 mins as we were catching up, and during this time another 3 groups came in, ordered and received their food. We had still not been checked on. We were finally checked on after 45 mins and we ask about our food to which we were told it would be any minute. We wait another 20 mins and decided we had enough and left. I don't know if this was racially charged(my wife and her Tia were the only brown people in the restaurant), ageist(we were also the only people under the age of 45) or a lack of good customer service, I just know we were not gonna wait 2 hours for 3 basic meals(hash skillet, hearty breakfast special, and biscuits and gravy w/a side of bacon). read more

Only been here a few times and the only thing they are consistent on is terrible service. Food is ok. The atmosphere is tense. Waitress never refilled drinks or to even come back and check on us. When she brought the check asked if we needed anything else. I asked for a Togo box and more water since we didn't have any throughout our meal. She never bothered to come back with the Togo box or water. Went to every other table but ours. When we went up to pay 10 mins later and we told her about not getting the Togo box or even water her response was" I can only do what I can do". I rarely write reviews. Only when it's an exceptionally good or bad experience. In this case, it was excellent! Prompt and friendly greeting upon entering. Had 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns, 2 pancakes and coffee. The eggs were scrambled to perfection (soft but not runny, not overcooked and hard). The bacon and hash browns were crispy as requested. The pancakes were the highlight! Crispy edges, fluffy center with a generous amount of butter. Syrup was on the table, not overly sweet but just right. The server was attentive the entire time, offering to refill coffee but not obtrusive. Total bill was $17.78 which is about the going rate. My first visit to Hot Spot 51, I will be returning soon! I was hungry for breakfast and happy I could order anything on the menu. I asked for the bacon crisp and it was bacon perfection; thin and every piece totally crispy! The eggs were also good and it came with nice crispy hash browns. The server was friendly and very well mannered. It is in an older building but the booths and tables were sparkling clean and so was the bathroom. Noticed a new place had opened where Ollie's used to be. We couldn't figure out what type of food it was from the name... So I googled it and found their Facebook page. American traditional food was the answer. We decided to try it for dinner. We showed up later in the evening. There were only a couple people there eating. To make a long story short, everything we ate was REALLY good. We ordered mozzarella sticks, the fish fry, chicken strips, a patty melt and chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes. I only managed to get one picture of the all you can eat Friday fish fry. ($15.99) It came with 2 sides and a soup or salad I believe. Their ranch dressing was excellent for those of you who care about that kind of thing! Our waiter was great, also. Very attentive! There were a couple of mistakes made with our orders...which is not unexpected with a new restaurant. Our waiter was able to fix it quickly. We stopped in this morning for breakfast and to see what this new little place had to offer. I remember this building starting out as a Pizza Hut when I was a kid, so the entrance was nostalgic to me. Once we went in I noticed the ambiance was okay, nothing to brag about and could use a bit of better branding and uniqueness but I understand that it opened not that long ago, but I wasn't there for that and I came to eat! We were greeted and sat promptly and had menus within minutes of being greeted. They have a decent selection of dishes to order I got an omelette and my husband got the chicken fried steak breakfast. Both were delicious and we both shared to see how each others tasted. Our waiter and the entire staff were very friendly and made sure to check on you but not obsessively or not at all, as we've experienced in same places. Overall, the food was great it's not far from home and we will definitely be back again and might even bring some extra guests with us!
