Damnit. I've already failed in trying to review this weekend backwards. But we press on. After eating lunch, we stopped in here for coffee. I loved it here. My mocha was 'upped' to a Dilettante chocolate by Don while I was in the ladies room. It was very nice. It is, to describe it best, the Poulsbo version of Bothell's Lyon's Den. Not an exact replica, but a coffee shop that has treats, fantastic latte's, variety of seating options, a little fireplace, and board games....including Trivial Pursuit. Needless to say, with food in my belly, coffee in hand and the chance to relax and play TP with Don, just like at home, I was having a wonderful time here. We ran through a stack of cards, testing our trivia abilities to the limit when Don announced we wouldn't be leaving until each of us got a perfect 6 on a card. It was touch and go there, and I was just a *little* tempted to throw a few easy answers just to get to stay longer, but further adventure called, so I did my best. The cheer he let out when I got my perfect 6 turned every head in the room in his direction. Poulsbo has a lot of little coffee shops, and every other little shop (bakeries, etc) also serve coffee it seems, but Hot Shots should be a chosen stop whenever you are in town. read more

Coffee places are funny with reviews, people love them, they have their own fan clubs and it can get very militant if you say anything bad. Then there's the flip side, the fans of another coffee place and they will negative review the competitors. It's funny. Hot Shots is one of those places that people love, or they hate. I'm in the middle. Nice big space, great place in the middle of downtown to meet. Baristi have always been nice to me, but their product misses what it should be. Lack of knowledge to deliver consistency in their drinks, it's hit and miss depending on who is behind the counter. Monin flavors are nice, premade sandwiches, not so much. I like the decor, but it's a bit dark inside for me. Fun games to play with if you're sticking around but there's a bit of a "here's your drink, go away" feel to it, once they've given you what you bought and you sit down, they are done with you. This is another place trying to play at making coffee, but just doesn't deliver. In Seattle, this place would die. Great place to meet and hang out for first time online daters or blind dates, you've got the park and waterfront right behind you, but don't get your hopes up for jaw dropping coffee. read more

This place was not great. It's got a nice looking environment, and seems like it's going to be pretty good. Nice set of tables. Books, board games, other amusements around to help you pass the time. Unfortunately, a nice ambiance alone does not make a good coffee house. The coffee was simply not good. Perhaps the barista was having an off day. I had a latte, and it was pathetically weak coffee that tasted like 95% milk. It wasn't even warm. I thought it was just me, but my aunt and uncle were having coffee and had the same complaint. Hmm. I guess I should have taken the coffee back, but by then we were headed down the street. I hope that it was just a one time event, because the other reviews don't seem bad. I do love coming here! It is very comfortable, there is wifi and the coffee is good and the staff very friendly. People watching in the Spring and Summer is another benefit as you sit back and enjoy your drink as the location is pretty much dead center of downtown. read more

Hot Shots has great coffee, a welcoming environment and great people. It's my go-to coffee place in Poulsbo. Sluy's bakery is right across the street and Hot Shots is happy for you to bring Sluy's products and eat them in their place. read more

I have come back once again to give this place another chance. Especially being it's 1 of the only 2 coffee places in downtown poulsbo.... I don't count Viking Brew, or whatever the new coffee place on the corner is now. That place is a joke in itself. I'm still not impressed. My drink was a watered down unflavored white mocha ( which I don't understand how it possible to make a white chocolate with coconut taste like water and milk ) and made with burnt shots. The whole interaction from start to finish was just weird and awkward. I'm sorry I gave this place another chance but have just lost hope in it. read more

When you first walk in here on a warm day when they have the door opened, you might notice that flies just flock to this place. And I don't blame them! I absolutely love this place. It may need a paint job, but who cares about that when you have a really good product. They have so many variations that you can choose from with your drink. For the most part, I either get hot chocolates, vanilla italian sodas, or some sort of iced mocha and each drink that I've had has been delicious. They'll even make you feel special by adding a chocolate on top of your drink! Every barista that I've encountered have been really sweet, so no wonder they have won best in NK. This place is a definite must to go (and to skip the flies, go on a cooler day. Most cafes have a fly problem on warm days so, don't let that stop you from going to this treasure of a place!) read more

Normally, I would have put a full 5 stars. I love this place and this is only the coffee shop that gets it right for me. I've tried Starbucks so many times that I lost count and every single time, the coffee was either made poorly or they ran out of a certain ingredient and would substitute it with something that ruined my order. However, this place was amazing, until just recently they hired some new people. And since then, I usually walk right out when I see them. My last order there tasted like brunt coffee so so bad. The baristas that have worked there longer know me so well now (and I don't even go that often since I live in Port Townsend). And the coffee always tastes great in their care. There's also the new policy of paying a little extra for added flavor (they give 1 free pump) that I think others should know about. They didn't actually always do this until a few months ago, but I don't really mind it, so long as the coffee doesn't taste like cowboy coffee that was left too long on a burner. read more

For me, visiting cafes in Washington, especially ones around Seattle area feels like I'm going on a pilgrimage to the mecca of American coffee. I expected better, or at least that the baristas would put in some effort into making their espresso drinks. The Cafe Macchiato wasn't anything spectacular than your average rushed job from your local supermarket starbucks. Board games are a plus, we had fun playing speed scrabble. read more

Cozy on the inside when it's cold on the outside. Very friendly staff. I had a cafe mocha with soy and they served it to me in a to-go cup with a piece of chocolate bar on top of the lid. I popped open the lid, dropped the chunk in the coffee and let my tastebuds do the rest. Fun! read more

What a comfortable, welcoming place. Although the saying is very overused, it really feels like home away from home - even the first time I came here. In addition to the usual suspects (coffee) there are very comfy chairs, wifi, board games, books. You can visit with others, or be by yourself, get absorbed in a book, or people watch through the large windows. Toward the back, in the hallway are the only public bathrooms I know of downtown. So, what could be bad? Nothing. Someone in a previous review mentioned that since Sluy's doesn't have seating, they bring their treats here to eat, and get a coffee. What a great idea! Plus, I appreciate that I have not broken my record for including Sluy's in every review I do for downtown Poulsbo. read more

I'd like to preface that several years ago I had an extremely off-putting experience here. I was around 15, had come in with my boyfriend and we were planning to meet up and chat with a few friends. We had gone to Sluys right before and I had a cookie in a pastry bag in my hand. I didn't want it to be crushed in my backpack. I headed to some open seats toward the back and my boyfriend went to order for us. I hadn't even had a chance to sit down before who I'm presuming was a manager or the owner darted out from the back, and asked me to leave. She told me I couldn't come in and eat outside food, understandable, but I pointed out I wasn't eating it and that my boyfriend was purchasing our drinks. She repeated that it was rude to bring outside food in. My boyfriend and I decided to leave and text our friends to meet us elsewhere. I honestly was shocked, and I'm sure people come in with sluys all the time as it's a well known tourist stop? It would have been understandable if I was chowing down, or if we weren't purchasing anything whatsoever. Prior to that I was a fairly regular patron too, always getting a peach smoothie or mocha. This was my first time back since. Having lived in Seattle and Portland, I may be spoiled with options for well-crafted coffee. The vanilla latte I ordered, had maybe a whispering of coffee in it - it was all milk and flavor. The barista was nice. The manager/owner? that I remembered wasn't anywhere to be seen, thankfully. read more

The employees are extremely friendly and you can spend the whole afternoon just playing on your laptop or talking with a friend with it's warm atmosphere relaxing you all the while. It's a great place for a date with your boyfriend or girlfriend and it's a great place to unwind after a long day from work. Four magic words: Espresso Explosion Espresso Shake. It will change your life. I swear. Imagine some of the best espresso ice cream blended to perfection with two flawlessly pulled shots of espresso. They serve these concoctions with a chocolate covered espresso bean (or chocolate stick) and a vanilla infused whip cream is also available. Chocolate covered espresso beans are some of my favorite things. The creamy, smooth texture of chocolate and the pleasant crunch of the bean is heaven and I greatly appreciate small little details like this. Hot Shots has definitely become my go-to coffee joint. It has a great waterfront location in Poulsbo and is about a block from my office. And as much as I love my shake, I try to limit that to one a week. Sad, since they're divine, but good because it allows me to explore their other coffee concoctions (which have all been amazing). Something about their foam is so decadent. It's rich, thick, frothy and creamy. Their robust espresso is always prepared expertly and has never been bitter. The service is friendly, they have free Wi-Fi, a ton of board games, and packaged cashews called "Rubbed Nuts". I'll be back.... tomorrow.... to be caffeinated... and so I can laugh at the ridiculous product names. read more

A bit overpriced for extras (this is one of those places that charges A LOT extra for almond milk, syrup, etc), but the coffee was delicious. The barista was very pleasant, and this place has a lovely atmosphere. I worked here for a few hours while passing through POulsbo. The wifi was a little iffy, but the place was clean and friendly, the staff were super nice (I love their whole thing with the pasta sit sticks instead of wooden ones...yay for being environmentally conscious!), and the coffee was great. I just wish it wasn't like 75 cents to get some syrup or almond milk :( read more

Very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Workers are so friendly and welcoming. My wife and I passed thru here on a trip up from California. I must say, best white mocha I've ever had was from hot shots. The gentleman AJ was very kind and also gave us some spots to go out to while he was ringing us up. I'm honestly boggled as to why they have been voted "best in Kitsap county." Their coffee is not terrible by no means however it's not incredible either. I've visited the cafe quite a few times since it is one of my girlfriend favorite spots but I have never been impressed. The baristas are never friendly and even the owner herself is somewhat cold. They advertise organic coffee but have no organic milk or syrup options. This I will never understand. I suppose it's a nice little spot to pop into and grab a cup of average coffee and walk the downtown area but it's definitely not one of my go to places. read more

This is a nice coffee shop on Main Street in Poulsbo. They offer soup and sandwiches. Their turkey cheddar panini is delicious. I like that I get a chocolate coffee bean with my chocolate and that you get an extra shot free. I always go for the extra shot!:) Free wifi, books, and games. It has plenty of room too. What a great shop to hang out in and read a book or catch up on work- free Wi-Fi! The coffee was also pretty tasty. I can't complain. The have almond milk and tons of syrups to choose from! Not many places offer syrups or a variety of milks like Hot Shots so I was definitely impressed on that note.
