The process of prepping is somewhat intensive however cooking is pretty straight forward; 1) put items in fryer 2) take them out when done 3) let rest 4) serve. Foursquare says I checked in 40 mins ago... And I'm still waiting.... For a takeout order. It's not like I'm asking for a poularde de breast en vessie. It's chicken wings and onion rings. Waitresses are nice but this really is rubbish. Sad when Hooters can put you to shame in the service department - that's saying something. To be fair, I probably should have known NOT to order a salad in a wings joint but that's what sounded good. I paid $12 for a chicken caesar. It didn't seem to have any romaine, just a bunch of chopped up iceberg. The chicken was sparse as was the dressing. It was just not worth the money. My table mates weren't too excited about their food either. In summary, when you go to a wings joint, you should probably order wings. Wings can come grilled?! Sacrilege! But of course I tried it. 9-piece grilled hot sauce wings along with the traditional strips of celery and carrots arrived at our table promptly. Tender chicken meat melted in my mouth and then IT arrived milliseconds after the fresh charbroiled introduction....the hot kick. Well done! Spicy shouldn't overwhelm the flavor, and Hot Mama's delivered it spectacularly. My complaint lies in the very sad, very limp, oily fries and the depressingly thin, watery blue cheese dressing that's embarrassingly their own creation. After a few bites of spicy wings, I prefer to tame it with a refreshing and thick coat of blue cheese, which then would follow a couple strings or a wedge of crisp fries that ought to soak any residual fire still lingering in the palate to cleanse it and prepare it for the another scintillating adventure. Went to Hot Mama's for the first time last night with our friends and their little kiddos. Contrary to early reports of a loud, packed joint, Hot Mama's at 6:30 on a Wednesday is apparently a good place to take the family. I debated whether to go veg or try their wings, and I chose the wings after learning that they were free range birdies. Go on, roll your eyes, but this is Eugenia and it's important to me. Not too many wing joints offer that. We went with the root beer and chipotle bourbon wings. All wings are fried; they no longer offer a grilled option. The root beer was sweet and weren't lacking for sauce. I can't say it was my favorite taste sensation, but it was unique. The chipotle bourbon wings were fine. The house made blue cheese was too liquidy and not blue cheesy enough. The onions rings were fantatisic - big onion rings and a perfect, light and seasoned batter. My friend opted to sub a veggie burger and it looked good - it came with what looked like a whole jalepeno sliced on top, and a side of an "insane sauce" that was indeed, insane. Her side salad was big and looked good. Her kiddos got kid sized mac and cheese bowls. I tasted the mac and cheese and was not at all impressed despite the fancy list of cheeses that allegedly went into the dish. I came expecting great hot wings and I wasn't disappointed. What I didn't expect was all of the other delicious things offered on the menu, along with great service. We pretty much stick to basic buffalo wings, but they were done perfectly. We also had Mac and cheese which was delicious and the huge chewy pretzel which was so much better than I thought it would be. The pretzel came with mustard and a beer cheese sauce, and I would probably order anything that came with that sauce! Servers are fast and friendly and seem to know what they're doing. Five stars for the grub, this fact is well-known and well documented. Service is not bad, they are kind but not overly concerned about your comfort. I give this place 3 stars for the ambiance. We asked to sit on the patio since outside was full. She brought us in to three empty tables. I asked if my husband and I could sit at the four top for a little extra space. She said no since they might get more people soon. I was fine with that response and sat at the two topper but to my dismay within 5 minutes the patio was completely empty. There were now 2 four toppers open but I did not ask to move. I wrote a yelp review instead. Sorry. And now they seat a couple at the 4 top, as I am writing this. Two stars. And I am no longer sorry. The sitting space in the patio is crammed and your neighbor's conversations are your own. Not so bad if you enjoy drunk, really drunk, and very loud neighbors! Really, every time I have come my neighbors have been incredibly loud. It is difficult to enjoy your meal with people talking... Loudly... I am sure this is not always the case but it is more common than not. A little more space would be nice, maybe I will try inside next time, the weather has just been so nice. I came in for an order I called in. I walked up to the bar to pick up my order. I had to ask to be serviced and it seemed like I was an inconvenience to them. I promptly paid and tipped in cash and waited for my order. When I did get my order (which wasn't a long wait time). I thanked the server and wished her a wonderful day. Her response was "I will" not thank you or you too, simply "I will". I was absolutely appalled. I am in town from Las Vegas and was recommend to the location. If this the type of service that is trained I would not recommend eating at this establishment. I could only imagine they type of service I would have received if I was a sit down customer. Is it a compliment to say Hot Mama's Wings fits right into this section 13th Street? I hope so. Hot wings in a tiny storefront, can't say there are too many of those in Eugene. This could be a really nice neighborhood node if 13th Street were a little more pedestrian friendly here. Street trees well defined sidewalks and crossings, you know the whole bit. Cafe Soriah holds down one corner with the Wagonworks auto shop while Bergs looms lengthily across the street with some oldschool Eugene ski shop reputation. Hot Mamas adds a petite or cozy or however one politely says small sidewalk presence next to another mini mart/bodega. Inside is mostly wood booths and barstools but it still maintains a comfortable atmosphere. We tried the Chipotle Bourbon and Chili Lime Basil wings. Wings came out quickly were super saucy with good flavor. Will try some of their other offerings next time we pop in. read more

New review for our used-to-be-favorite neighborhood spot. What changed: New menu = no more corndogs. Sounds small but for picky kids this was one of the only proteins they liked. Actually they loved them. So now they don't look forward to eating there. Also they removed the gluten free onion rings. Some of us are gluten free, they were delicious, and it was one of the only places in Eugene to get them. So in general the food is less interesting there. Service: We have been there three times in the past several months when they were expecting large groups. They gave us a heads up and there was at least 1.25 hours before the reservations. I have been here twice for late night happy hour. The happy hour menu is decent with some good items and $3 pints. The first time I had the mac & cheese and the server was kind enough to get me a side of the 'insane' habanero sauce (although he was reluctant to do so). Quite enjoyable. My buddy enjoyed her wings as well. The second time was vastly different. Slow service. Bland food. Painfully bad music at the Monday open-mic. The wings were overcooked, and the sauce was like flavored water. Honestly, they looked soggy and pale, both the hot and root beer wings. The standard 'hot' wing sauce apparently is also made with habanero which is too hot, with little flavor, no complexity. Habanero should really be saved for the extra hot sauces. I might go back for the mac & cheese. But probably not. I don't trust their lack of consistency in food quality. And don't go on a Monday night unless you enjoy terrible Bob Dylan and Dead covers. read more

This is basically my neighborhood bar, easily within stumbling distance of my house so I never have to worry about driving home when I'm too tipsy. Also, there is a convenience store next door so I can pick up a six pack or a bottle of wine to continue the party at my house if I like. What's not to like? Deep fried bacon with spicy maple dipping sauce? Yum. Fried pickles? Excellent. Lots of flavors of wings, and they have your choice of tots or fries with any sandwich. I also really like the buffalo chicken salad with hot sauce on the chicken and blue cheese dressing on the salad. Drinks are superb, and I often enjoy a bloody mary or other mixed beverage or a cider on draft. Prices are reasonable and service is always on point. Was in town for the weekend and met a group of buddies at Hot Mamas. Wow, it was the perfect venue for meeting the crew and watching some playoff hoops. We had great service and our waitress was on point and anticipated our needs extremely well even though it was pretty full. We all appreciated her giving us advanced warning about happy hour ending. Drinks: Great beers on tap, which we found out rotated every couple weeks or so, and the local brews seemed to be well represented. Our group concurred that pitchers would be a great option, and were informed they might be coming soon. Can't comment on cocktails as none of us ordered any. Food: Loved the "Hot" sauce, it's terrific but really HOT; not overpowering, but definetly slowed me down a little from plowing right through the wings. "Chipotle Bourbon" was a huge hit at the table, with "Chili Lime Cilantro" coming rounding out the top 3. I didn't try the root beer, which bums me out because it seems like they're legit. Onion wings were really good, exceeded expectations. Tater tots were a crowd pleaser as always. We only caught happy hour for our first round and most of our bill was regularly priced, yet I was pretty pumped when the final bill came. Way less then we all were anticipating for how much we ate and drank. I live in LA so it was WAY less than I would have guessed, but the Eugene crew were all excited as well. Went here yesterday and enjoyed some really great wings! We walked in and we seated ourselves, everything was very clean and organized and the resturaunt has a really modern, fun feel. Our waitress Erin was so amazing and nice. The service was great and our food came out really quickly. They have a really great deal on the weekdays until 2:30pm where you can get 10 wings, fries or tots, and a drink for $14. It sounds a little expensive but you get a ton of food and it's definitely cheaper than your basic wing resturaunt these days. I did the $14 deal with tots and the asian honey mustard wings which were sooo good and my boyfriend did the same but with buffalo wings and fries which he really enjoyed as well. Were on vacation but we're definitely going to have to stop by here again before we go back home because they have some of the best wings i've ever had by far. Food was really tasty and I was super happy to see that you can sub in a gluten free bun on any of the sandwiches (the fish and chips is also gluten free) for an extra .75. Service: Every table was taken when we walked in, but the service was good and quick anyway. We waited about 10 minutes for food. The wings came out one short, and the waitress promptly went back and brought us the missing wing plus 2 extras on the house, Atmosphere: Nice and casual scene with a wide variety of patrons at 6:30, from families to singles. Ugh, okay, this place is great. So why have I amended my prior review? So many reasons. First, the owner (or manager, I don't really know) of this place responds to every review. I love that. Even though I was pretty upset with my experience the first few times I visited Hot Mama's, he offered to give us a voucher to come back. I didn't take him up on the offer, but it was still very appreciated. Second, we got dinner from Hot Mama's tonight and everything was outstanding. We ordered a buffalo chicken salad that was AMAZING - fried onion rings on top, tons of bacon, and spring greens. Yum! We also ordered 14 wings (7 hot and 7 asian honey mustard) and the sauces were great. The hot is not a classic buffalo sauce, so be aware of that before you order, but I was very pleased with the flavor. It was spicy, but not too spicy to eat and it tasted...maybe bright is the best word for the sauce. I loved it. The asian honey mustard were another hit. The sauce had a great depth of flavor and the wings themselves were sprinkled with sesame seeds. I also appreciated that there was plenty of sauce in the to-go order. Sometimes restaurants leave the wings sauced with nothing in the bottom of the container and they get dry - not a problem at Hot Mama's! The wings were also plump and very juicy. Third, the ranch and blue cheese sauces are still super flavorful and the perfect consistency. So you win Hot Mama's...you are amazing. Take all the stars, just take them. Edit: I re-tried the inferno wings and they were a completely reasonable spice level (for people who love things spicy!!). I'm thinking that either a.) I've had Hot Mama's a few times (always takeout--my TV is bigger and I don't want to miss the game! ), and while the sauce is always delicious, I've had varying wing quality--oftentimes the meat was a little too dry or tough. I keep coming back because I love wings, and the variety of sauces is great. I got some wings a week ago after a Duck game and WOW! Grabbed six each of the Classic Buffalo, Chili Lime Cilantro, and the Chipotle Bourbon. All of the wings were cooked to perfection--quite the feat considering they varied widely in size! Juicy, tender, yummy connective tissue bits... And the sauces were amazing. Have since tried their burgers, and even being not-a-burger-person, I am allll about The Dominator--bacon and eggs give it a deliciously breakfast-y flavor, without shoving it in your face. read more

As of today, I have eaten here a number of times. The cuisine is hearty and flavorful at a decent going rate. This joint's interior is also set up very well, simple table scheme with some neat Eugene-themed posters framed on the wall. I felt invigorated during my urination due to the life-size portrait of Bruce Lee in the men's room. The big TVs in there are awesome too. I love TV, especially in a restaurant. To be honest, I prefer the sandwiches over the wings here. They are far superior. The wings are pretty good, lots of sauces to choose from, but wings in general are too gimmicky for me to really enjoy. I branched out today and got a fish sandwich in addition to wings. It was cooked up right. The service there has always been great to boot. A polite amount of table-talk; the servers aren't corny or passive-aggressive, either. A thoroughly mediocre experience. Our server was fairly attentive, but otherwise the experience left a lot to be desired. The food simply isn't good. We got 24 wings: 12 Root Beer wings (after reading the rave Yelp reviews), 6 Blue Cheese and Bacon, and 6 Asian Honey Mustard. The Root Beer wings tasted like someone took a bland fried chicken wing and poured slightly congealed root beer over it. The Blue Cheese and Bacon wings were again bland fried chicken wings slathered with blue cheese dressing and sprinkled with bacon. Admittedly, the Asian Honey Mustard wings were okay, but it still wasn't anything to write home about. You're going to pay about $1 per wing and get the quality of a $.25 happy hour wing with some extra sauce poured on it. The beer selection is what you could get at most restaurants. At $4 a pint, it isn't a bad deal, but it isn't a good one either. There's no reason to go here unless you've got such a craving for wings that you don't really care about price or quality. We've been to Hot Mama's Wings twice now. Both times we've been greeted quickly and told to sit wherever we wanted. They have an extensive beer selection and a full bar. The service was very prompt both times. The first visit, we both tried the hamburger and fries. The fries were somewhat limp and greasy, but you get a lot of them. The flavor of the burger was excellent. However, both of our burgers (which we ordered medium-rare) were VERY drippy. When tilted, pinkish-clear juices dripped from the burger into the basket. By the end of the burger, the bun was soaked and tinted pink. I propped up one end of my basket so the juices wouldn't drain into my fries. The second visit, we both tried the grilled buffalo chicken sandwich with the side salad. Again, the flavor of the sandwich was excellent. But the sandwich was extremely messy. It was made up of three pieces of white meat which fell out of the bun as I tried to eat it. The bun was too thick and dry for this sandwich. I ended up forgoing the bun and eating the rest with a fork. Our very nice server noticed we were having difficulties with our sandwiches. She said they were still working out the kinks with it. This sandwich will be perfect if they use a whole chicken breast instead of pieces. A thinner, softer bun would be best. The tomatoes on the sandwich were red and juicy, and the lettuce was romaine (yay!) and not iceberg. I really want to like Hot Mama's Wings. It's in my neighborhood and I like the atmosphere. Lots of good beer and the well gin is Gordon's (another plus). I hope they make some improvements to their sandwiches so they are less messy. read more

So, I normally HATE eating any meat right off the bone. I blame a horrible childhood visit to Medieval Times. I went here because I was planning on an appetizer dinner and that was a great success! Shared some delicious fried pickles, mac and cheese and garlic parm fries with friends and on a whim decided to try a wing - HOLY CRAP. I devoured the wing and then immediately ordered my own 10 wings to bring home to eat at another time. The wings are crispy, light and delicious and I, boringly, love them plain just because the chicken is so damn good. I live a couple blocks from this place and was really excited to see it open. I went opening weekend and was pumped to get my wing on. Here is what I experienced at this place: Cool decor, nice bar, ok prices. On my first trip I was had my doubts but since then they have gotten the kinks out. I have had various experiences here, close to full on shouting level loud to regular restaurant talking. Only one was frustrating but since it is running smoothly. I have had barbecue, chipotle bourbon, hot, Insanely hot and parm/garlic. The wings originally had very light sauce, nearly dry, but now they are saucy, my one complaint the first time I went here. Tasty chicken, crisp skin with nice original flavor sauces. One thing that has happened more than once is that I have gotten the wrong wings. The sauces are close to the same color, maybe get stickers with the sauce name on it and put it on the paper in the basket? I didnt send them back because I wasnt dead set on what I wanted, so it was kind of a mystery basket. I hope the best for this place, and am gladly upgrading them to 4 stars because I would recommend going here! read more

Really good!! We came on a Tuesday night which is $4 microbrew pint day! The beers were delicious. We ordered the macaroni & cheese, dirty fries, and some wings. The Mac & cheese is good, it has a hint of black pepper in it that gives it a kick of spice. The dirty fries have bacon on it which kicks it up a notch. Our first round of wings here raspberry habanero & Asian honey mustard. These were good but i enjoyed the 2nd round of wings which were all FLAVOR TOWN (credit to triple d) they were the Thai peanut & chili cilantro lime. These were divine and all kinds of amazing! I've eaten here a number of times and so far, I'd say it's my favorite wing joint in Eugene (this may not be saying much). I'm a little surprised by the underwhelming reviews here, however most of the lower ratings seem to be a bit older so perhaps they've upped their game recently? All I can say is my experiences here have been good, I find the wings perfectly cooked and nicely meaty with a great selection of sauces. Even better the sauces are very generously applied and unlike some places I've been in the past, they don't charge extra for blue cheese and celery. At $1 per wing though, it's not exactly a steal, but I do feel they are worth the price. The blue cheese and bacon are one of my favorite's, and both times I've had them the bacon is quite generously applied. Mmm bacon. Also, the onion rings are thin and crispy and I actually seem to be made in house, unlike most places who buy them frozen. I've also found the service to be extremely fast both times I've been there, and the people working have always been friendly. It is however quite small, so it may be difficult to get a large group in there, or get seating during peak hours. But, with a solid selection of microbrews I find it a great place to stop in and get takeout while I enjoy a beer for a moment. read more

My wife, daughter, and I ate here after a nice day at Spencer's Butte Park after a couple of years of wanting to. I was a little apprehensive at first as I had heard mixed reviews and not so good luck with other wing joints overcooking their wings. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the food. We basically wanted to grab some food to go and a quick cocktail while my daughter ate lunch. I had the Kamakazi, Inferno, and Rasberry Habenero. All three were delicious and actually had flavor instead of "lets try to burn you" taste. We also enjoyed the jalapeno poppers (mainly I did, they were a bit too spicy for the missus), deep fried pickles, and she had a buffalo chicken salad. The staff was great and very attentive. We are very critical of staff as we both spent many of our years managing, serving, and bartending restaurants and bars. The staff here gets 5 stars. We will definitely be returning hopefully soon to try a burger (and of course more wings!). PS. The happy hour prices are pretty awesome. We'll have to hit that up too! read more

We came in last night and had HORRIBLE service. The waiter completely ignored us for 15 minutes then practically threw waters on the table while walking by without so much as making eye contact. He then spent another 20 minutes walking back and forth past our table completely ignoring that we were there. Two other tables were seated and served food before my boyfriend basically stood up in front of a waiter to get drinks ordered. When we finally got food they gave us the wrong sides. The only time we were acknowledged or had any kind of reasonably timed service was when they brought the bill. There are way too many great restaurants in this area to return after being treated like that. read more

We love Hot Mama's Wings! It's a small place, and it can get crowded and busy, but if you pick your times carefully, you can have a really nice visit. As for the food, we always order wings, though they have several other offerings, each with its own unique creative twist. Our favorite wings are the blue cheese and bacon and the classic buffalo, though we've tried (and enjoyed) most of the others, save for the really, really spicy ones. (Hint: The spiced maple bacon are CRAZZZZY!) Others have commented on the wings being somewhat chewy and dry. We've experienced that too, but I can say that on our last visit (just a few days ago), the wings were noticeably better -- tender and moist. Hopefully, they've rectified that problem for good. They have several fun starters -- the bacon-wrapped poppers will make your head explode, and the tater tots are just plain delicious. Chicken fried bacon -- are you serious?!? Great stuff! And the newly added deep-fried pickles are a most welcome addition -- hard to find in Eug/Spfld area! And the desserts... oh, just check 'em out. You'll see!
