One of those afternoons when you are just craving for wings and comfort food, so here we were, at mercy of Hot Mama's Wings at 5 in the afternoon. Lucky for us, we just so happened to be here for Happy Hour, which offered a slightly cheaper price for the food we were planning to order. Overwhelmed by choices, it took all of our will to not order all the sides they offered. We ended up with Mac N' Cheese, Garlic Parmesan Tots, Bacon Bleu Wings and Barbecue Wings. Foreseeing the greasiness of our food, I have also ordered a Raspberry Lemonade to standby. Oh my goodness. I could eat their tots ALL DAY. Given how it was only about 6-7 dollars, I didn't expect this HUGE basket of tots in front of us. Garlic parmesan wasn't just sprinkles of garlic salt and cheese, we could see the melted cheese on top of each tot. YUM! While I was going crazy on the tots here, my boyfriend took the liberty to finish the Mac N' Cheese...Without my knowledge. I don't blame him, it was tasty, not too rich or greasy that filled you up immediately. Last but not least, THE WINGS. Personally, I found their sauce to be a little salty to my taste, and the texture of the wings was somewhat dry. It could be hard to tell with they were covered in sauce. We live in San Diego, relatives live in Olympia and Gig Harbor. Hot Mama's is one of our must-stops whenever we drive from one to the other. We discovered Hot Mama's while one son was living in Eugene as a student. We love wings, and we especially appreciate that Hot Mama's wings are all natural (free-range, no drugs, etc.). During our last visit, I had the "Hot" sauce on my wings (two steps down from the "Kamikaze") which is my favorite. Wife had the special flavor of the day, which was like a Korean BBQ sauce - she really liked them, but they were a bit sweet for my palette. We also tried the chicken-fried bacon for the first time. Pretty good, but a little dry. The key is to use the spicy maple syrup dipping sauce. It is a great flavor combination. We'll try it again during our next visit. read more

I wanted to try this place because I was looking for a good place to get fried chicken, and my wife is a wing fan. I got the chicken tender platter with spicy honey mustard and was blown away by how awesome everything tasted. My wife got two orders of seven wings each so we could get two sauces: the thai peanut and classic buffalo. They were both amazing, not too skimpy, good texture, chicken itself had good flavor! Even things like the ranch and bleu cheese dressings were done well, and getting tater tots was a treat I hadn't had since school days. So as far as the food goes, it was superb. As for the service, it too left nothing to be desired. The waiter knew the beers, helped me pick one that turned out to be exactly what I was looking for(wild hazy ipa). Delicious wings at a local restaurant! The smoked maple bacon wings are tasty and the tater tots are warm and crispy. My wife had the mac and cheese with broccoli and really enjoyed it. The location is easily accessible, but you'll have to settle for street parking as there is no parking lot. I went for lunch and there was no wait, even though the dining room is small. These guys are top notch for sure. I called in an order for their Wings and Tater Tots but got stuck in traffic and was late getting there which meant that my order was sitting there for a while, and then I had to drive to Creswell which is like 20 minutes away which meant that my order was pretty cold by the time I got to eat it. Was any of that their fault? No, of course not, they did their jobs as expected and with a pleasant smile. I sure would rather have stayed and had my dinner there while it was hot and fresh but that day will come again and when it does I'll be headed back to Hot Mama's Wings to feel that wonderful, warm hospitality that they offer. read more

How have I not been to Hot Mama's sooner? I had tried their Oakway Center location but I loved my experience here. It's a small spot with a little enclosed patio on the side and a front patio on the sidewalk. There's a bar inside, booths and tall tables with TVs on the walls for watching the game. Our server was awesome and I loved that we were able to try the different sauces before committing to a few. We ordered the 21 wings and a soft pretzel for the four of us to share. We were able to get 3 sauces and they were all so good! Each sauce has a different spice level and they all have really great flavor to them. I loved the raspberry habanero and the chile lime cilantro but even the Asian honey mustard was great. I think I loved them all. The only disappointing thing was that I ordered one of their Kentucky mule cocktails and the Ginger beer was completely flat. I want to give a special tip of the cap to Hot Mama's Wings because I showed up here as part of a group with two sugar-addled toddlers after a Christmas party cookie binge. We were in the outdoor space, which we had all to ourselves, and the server was so nice as the kids ran roughshod over everything and were complete terrors. Heard good things about this place, so we went yesterday to experience it. We currently have family visiting from another country and thought this would be a great "try out." Let me start by saying this place has its own vibe, very small space/seating. We were a party of 11 and they do not accept reservations. We were on their outside patio for a good 30 minutes until tables in the inside opened. The waiter started out as very helpful and attentive. Once we were able to move inside, it was a different story. 2 things were awful: My Mom's and Sister-in-law's fish and chips were soggy. Yuck! And our waiter decided it would be ok not to pay attention to his table of 11. My Mom told him in the beginning that it would be separate checks, he did not listen. When he brought the check, I asked him to split it up. He simply stated to initial on the receipt who will be paying what and will take payment there. If you ask me, people go out to relax and not worry about nonsense like splitting up our own bill! Ridiculous. I see it as him being lazy and not doing his job. So I asked for his Manager since he decided to give me attitude when I told him this was a problem. She apologized, but continued to have us initial and itemize our own check! It was over $200 worth of food and you want us to itemize our OWN CHECK? I couldn't believe it. Because of this, we will not be returning. I will gladly go to Buffalo Wild Wings and get my Asian Zing sauce with respectful Managers and waiters. The only thing good about Hot Mama's Wings...their thai peanut sauce. The wings here are very tasty. There are lots of sauce options, ranging in different heat levels. I had the raspberry/habanero. They were sweet and had a decent burn. Although, they were not as hot as I expected. The man do/habanero at B Dubbs is much hotter. What I didnt like is the fact that I wanted a 10 piece and to split it in 2 different flavors. They dont allow this option, which I find a little annoying. Because I could order 2 different 7 pieces. Whats the diff? I also had the fried dill pickles. They were very good as well. Other reviews of the wings seem adequate, so I'll cover some other stuff, like the chili, a hidden treasure, unexpectedly spicy, and reminiscent of the stuff for which Cincinnati is famous. Loved it! Fries and tots are less successful; they are generously portioned, but also served lukewarm, bland and uninteresting, unless dipped in the aforementioned chili, that is. Mac and cheese? Okay, but the pasta is too soft and the whole mess is flavorless and way overpriced. Adding bacon makes it better (well, duh) and even more overpriced. Spare your arteries and your wallet and don't get this. We all have to eat some greasy bad stuff sometimes but I'd suggest waiting for something with more flavor. Drinks? About the same as everywhere, nothing exceptional one way or the other. The service was terrible. The waitress did the I-have-to-go-potty dance servers do when they're trying to hurry you, then screwed up our order, scowled when we asked for what we ordered instead of what we got, failed to apologize, then dropped off our food and made herself scarce the rest of the time we were there. I went up to the bartender to ask for our check and the waitress brought it over with another scowl, apparently unhappy at having been dispatched. I wanted to pay with a card, but our server dropped the check and disappeared again. Disgusted, I left cash...including an undeserved tip. The best I can say is that she didn't spit in my food, as far as I know. Some of this (well, not the rudeness) would be understandable on a busy night, but it wasn't especially busy - the server just didn't care. I'm not sure why restaurants employ people like that. Even if they don't care how their customers feel, don't they want their customers' money? If you factor in value, Hot Mama's could get two or three stars; I chose two because of the poor service. After reading all of the raving reviews on yelp I convinced my husband that we had to go to Hot Mama's! Him and I were both fairly shocked that we had never noticed Hot Mama's as we drive past the place almost daily. That being said, the marketing needs work and without knowing the place is there it's difficult to find. We walked in and there was a wait. My husband and I didn't mind the wait, but what bothers me about any service industry is a lack of communication. You should greet, let them know how long of a wait is to be expected and maybe even let them know you'll be right back to see if they want a beer while waiting in line. None of that went down - and I have to say this is pretty commonplace in Eugene. After waiting about 20 minutes we were seated with a food menu. Waters were brought shortly afterwards but our waitress wouldn't come for another 10 minutes. She arrived and we ordered a drink and an appetizer that was okay...however, it wasn't jalapeño poppers...it was some sort of hot red pepper with medium-crappy sauce for dipping. The appetizer was brought out by the cook so we didn't get to make our dinner order for another 20 minutes. Typically when I go anywhere for the first time I'm cognizant of the time for future reference. Sometimes it's great to get out and enjoy a leisurely eat but other times you've got places to go! Once we ordered our food it only took about 15 minutes to come out. My husband ordered the chipotle sauce and I ordered the root beer (I always get hot wings but the non-jalapeño poppers had my mouth on fire so I ordered sweet wings). I don't like root beer but the wings were good, it wasn't too much of a root beer taste (impulse buy/I was pretty sure my husband would love them). The only disappointment with my wings was that they weren't grilled. I had forgotten to ask and the waitress didn't offer a choice. The chipotle wings, on the other hand, were just plain gross. I've gone looking through yelp for new places to eat sooo many times I've lost count. I've scrolled past Mama Hot Wings over a dozen times probably. For some random reason I decided that my boyfriend and I should go try it. I found out they have a full bar and a lot more on their menu besides wings! She answered all our questions and made some of the tastiest fresh squeezed cocktails ever! We ordered 7 wings in their buffalo sauce, macaroni and cheese, and their corn dog. My boyfriend enjoyed his wings, the macaroni and cheese was good, and the corn dog was DELICIOUS! Freshly made (they definitely breaded it there) with a hebrew national hot dog. The tots were very light and airy. Really good! The best and our favorite part of this place though was definitely the bar. The first drinks we ordered were a margarita and a lemon drop. I was craving a lemon drop and was unsure if a place like this would even make them. But they do! Both drinks tasted so fresh! After we got them our server let us know that all their drinks are made with fresh squeezed juice... and how could you want anything more than that!? After we drank those Alicia offered to make us anything we could think of. I ended up getting their Raspberry Smash off their cocktail menu with regular vodka instead of sweet tea vodka. I got BBQ, and got to try Bacon and Blue (great if you like bacon and blue cheese and a bit rich), I think Garlic and hmmm cannot remember the rest of this flavor, it was ok, my friend Loved them. I also got to try Thai Peanut I think...they were great actually. I cannot remember if there was another flavor or that was it. Hello grease and stomach pains. If you're stomach doesn't take to grease very well, I'd suggest taking a pepto bismol or an activated charcoal capsule prior to your meal and drink LOTS of water. The atmosphere and service is great, friendly, and quick. Maybe this would be a better happy hour spot than a meal or a good place for a group of people for some drinks. Their wings were underwhelming and had way to much sauce on them to be enjoyable. I assume you could ask to have less sauce. Their appetizer portions are gigantic so don't let your eyes be bigger than your stomach unless you have a group of people with you, then go for it. The prices were a bit high for my personal standards, which was a bit of a turn-off, but the food was alright. The fried pickles needed a better batter, perhaps like they had on the fried chicken sandwich or maybe with some cornmeal added and the option for a half order would be great. The fried chicken sandwich was underwhelming and sort of tasteless. The bun was not great and actually really to big, unless you have a large mouth its near impossible to take an entire bite. I ended up just getting rid of half the bun and messily eating it. Have you ever cooked onion rings an chicken wings? The process of prepping is somewhat intensive however cooking is pretty straight forward; 1) put items in fryer 2) take them out when done 3) let rest 4) serve. Foursquare says I checked in 40 mins ago... And I'm still waiting.... For a takeout order. It's not like I'm asking for a poularde de breast en vessie. It's chicken wings and onion rings. Waitresses are nice but this really is rubbish. Sad when Hooters can put you to shame in the service department - that's saying something. To be fair, I probably should have known NOT to order a salad in a wings joint but that's what sounded good. I paid $12 for a chicken caesar. It didn't seem to have any romaine, just a bunch of chopped up iceberg. The chicken was sparse as was the dressing. It was just not worth the money. My table mates weren't too excited about their food either. In summary, when you go to a wings joint, you should probably order wings.
