All of the things I wrote in my original review USED to be true. When we moved to the neighborhood, there were several vegetarian options, here, including a grilled veggie sandwich. They later replaced this with a tempeh Ruben, which was surprisingly delightful. Understandably, over the past several years, this has been a regular dining spot and a place we'd take visitors. As of late, however, the options are too limited for me to want to return. There's no longer a vegetarian sandwich. So, last week, I ordered the buffalo blue cheese (name may be slightly different) salad with tempeh. What I got, for $14.50, was a bowl of 1/2 salad greens to 1/2 fried onion with thinly sliced, tough, overly sauced tempeh on the side, and a side of blue cheese dressing. This might not have been so dissappointing if I didn't know what their offerings used to be like. I'm not going to pay top dollar for a memory, and likely will not return. read more

Craving some wings and not wanting the usual, or not wanting to make our own we decided to try Hot Mama's. We got 12 classic buffalo, and 12 root beer. The service was great, friendly, fast, efficient and the only reason this place is getting two stars instead of one. The prices are pretty much inline for any other takeout/dine in wing place. The wings were meaty but overly dry... I don't know if they were overcooked but they felt/tasted like they had been sitting out for a very long time. The classic buffalo had... well a classic buffalo taste (think franks red hot and butter) The rootbeer glazed were horrible. Excellent idea, poor execution. One star for the food, one star for the service. We might try this place again sometime in the future. Maybe after enough good reviews have been posted, until then we'll continue making our own wings and NOT being disappointed. read more

I am a big fan of bone in wings and it can be hard to find a place that has big juicy bone in wings, well Hot Mama's has just that! I was pleasantly surprised at the big quantity and large size of wings. My husband and I have been back a few times now. We love the atmosphere too. read more

Tried this restaurant at the recommendation of a friend when I was in town a couple of weeks ago for the Stanford-UO game. What a find! I'll definitely make a habit out of this place when I get the chance to visit Eugene. This is not your typical hole-in-the-wall wing shop, nor is it one of those typical franchise types. It's very comfortable and tastefully decorated without being overly fancy - the type of place I like to hang out. Loved the beer selection! I always appreciate a place with some distinctive ones to choose from. The food, though, is what would bring me back. Really enjoyed the bacon-wrapped poppers. Not too spicy, but just good. The salads looked great, but I ended up getting wings (what else would you try?!). Insane was just the right amount of hot for me. Also like the unusual flavors. We tried chipotle bourbon and bacon blue cheese. The bacon blue cheese was the best! You gotta try them. Came here on a whim because we were hungry and this is what we picked out from the list on Yelp. We got here just in time for Happy Hour so that is a plus. Here is what we ordered: 1) Wings - raspberry habanero, chile lime cilantro, thai peanut, spiced maple bacon, and garlic parmesan. 2) Tots 3) Fries 4) various beers The wings were good. I still love the ones the DP grills. I did like the raspberry habanero though. It wasnt as spicy as I like it to be but it was sweet with a hint of spice. My favorite was the tots. I'm updating this review because the owner asked for suggestions. My suggestion would be to offer half orders of the appetizers. Every time I go I want to try the fried pickles or fried cheese but at $8 a basket I can't justify it especially when I just want a small amount go compliment my meal. I have definitely developed a wing addiction with the help of Hot Mama's. I have had just about every flava except Insane and Kamikaze, as I had to pause a breathe between every one of my "hot" wings. LOVE the root beer, LOVE the bacon n blue cheese, LOVE the barbecue, LOVE the chipotle bourbon! I have also had their burger and the beef/pork mix is amazing!! Loved the tempura veggies they had at opening, wish they would come back!! Also adore the jalapeno poppers with thick bacon!! I would kill for their Mac n Cheese. Havn't seen Terminal Gravity ESG anywhere else and I LOVE it! The bartender is insanely sexy and they finally got in Sailor Jerry's as I requested/suggested! We had an early dinner so food didn't take too long. All in all it was pretty delicious but a little pricey. I had the wings with chilli lime sauce & a side of mac & cheese. My fellow patrons had the soft pretzel, the corn dog (gluten free yay!) with a side of tomato basil soup & the pretzel dog with a side of tater tots. I felt like the sauce was a bit meh: it didn't have the right balance of lime (almost tasted like spicy shrimp cocktail sauce) The mac & cheese was good (but needed more seasoning) I tried some of the soft pretzel & it was delicious especially the beer cheese sauce. The tater tots were crispy, tasty and had the perfect spice to it. I have to say that I'm really glad that there a place in Eugene that has so many gluten free options (My partner's mom was especially delighted to have a corn dog, she never thought she ever eat one ever again) They didn't have cider available which is sad but maybe next time! I'm admittedly a chicken wing snob since I grew up in New England. I miss the large, hormone-injected wings from the East coast and have learned to accept the smaller wings offered by the Pacific Northwest. The size and cost of these wings was not surprising-beats making my own from scratch! Anyways, I tried the garlic Parmesan and maple bacon wings. Both were excellent. Garlic parm is one of my favorite flavors and they totally nailed it - garlicky and slightly salty. The maple bacon was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Holy smokes. I thought I wrote a review when this place first opened up, I can't find it anymore so that must mean that I never wrote one! That's probably a good thing, because the first time I visited, Hot Mama's Wings would've got a 3 stars from me. This time around though and 2 years later- I am giving them a solid 5! Their wings got juicer, bigger and more flavorful. Basket of tots or fries are still awesome. Game is always on their many flatscreen TVs throughout. Good selection of beer. One major improvement is their timing and service. Food is served within 15 mins I think and servers are on top of things. We can always find parking nearby on the street. Best place in Eugene to get wings. I heard about this place through the coupon books students get on the University campus. I love wings, but I could never find a local place that lived up to my expectations. So I tried Hot Mama's. Got their Kamikaze, Buffalo, Bacon Blue, and Raspberry Habanero wings. The Kamikaze made my face sweat and my eyes tear up. Have them as your own risk people, it will hurt going in, and it hurt coming out. The Buffalo was perfect, spicy, smothered in sauce, but still crispy. Bacon Blue was really good too, and the Raspberry Habanero very sweet and surprisingly spicy. The atmosphere of the place is very fun, basic wings bar, great for when you wanna have a drink, bar food, and watch a game. The service is awesome. They've started attending the street fairs on the UO campus, keep an eye out for them. Nothing like buffalo wings on a cold day before going to a lecture. Great locally owned Wings place with AMAZING bacon jalapeno poppers. Soooo good! Thursdays are devoted to bacon at Hot Mama's, with great deals, worth checking out if you like bacon. (And who doesn't?) My favorites must-try menu items are the chicken fried bacon (holy moly) and the maple-bacon glaze. Mmmmmmm Friendly owners too, and we've always had very fast service. I also like that they do hormone and antibiotic free chicken, which not that many wings places can say. They also have an extensive gluten free menu. I've been coming to hot mama's about 2-4 times a month for about two years now. It is hands down my favorite restaurant. Many other reviewers add their two cents after only one or two visits but i've been going for a long time. Sure, there are some iffy things here and there but it never ruins my experience as a whole. The service is good depending on who you get. I'm surprised i dont know the waitstaff by name but they know my face and never card me and my friends. I've had every sauce (except the super-hot stuff) and love each of them in their own way. Classic Buffalo-you cant go wrong with this sauce especially when the wings are drenched. The very first bite makes you cry with joy and then later cry due to the mild spice. but keep eating and you'll get used to it and want more. Really good tots and fries, but the onion rings are the best. i have never in my life had rings like this and i crave them all the time. What i love about this place is the buzz. There usually a good crowd of people and there's a lot of energy in this restaurant even with the dimmed lights. Wings goes hand in hand with beer and sports, to which HM's got plenty. We are a very difficult niche to please. I'm allergic to fish and we have a super picky 10 year old. We often have to resort to Applebee's or the like to find something to eat. But we like to eat at local places. So I got on Mr. Google and this little place popped up. We were so pleased with the service and the food from the get-go! I had the BLT and my husband had a chicken tenders basket. The BLT was exactly as it should be and the sauce for the chicken was so good! Tots and fries were excellent additions! Our daughter who was coming off a long day with little sleep the night before didn't like her grilled cheese but that just meant that I had a late night snack to enjoy at our hotel! We have been here before and had a great experience. Happy hour is worthwhile and good prices. Tonight however was a whole different experience... We Walked in with no greeting. Sat at table waited quite a while before we were noticed. Not busy. No water. I asked if we could order drinks. Instead of being asked. Got an over salted appetizer of fried pickles. We have liked in the past but not tonight. Then asked for water for the second time. Was embarrassing to ask again but so thirsty from salty food. We had wings that were over cooked. Crunchy and dry. However the sauce was excellent. I would have complained to say that they were over cooked but nobody came back to ask how we were doing. I asked another server who walked by if we could have more water. She was polite and refilled with a smile. However that was the only thing good about this experience. No water no service and over cooked salty food. I will have to think again before returning. read more

This place is a decent wing place for Eugene. There isn't really anywhere else that seems to be specifically wings. They advertise their wings as being free-range, hormone, and antibiotic free, which is obvious when you look at the size of the things. They're definitely a little smaller than you'd find at a place which is not free of those things. The bone in wings at least. As far as taste goes, they're pretty good, probably not the most delicious wings that have ever been made in the history of wings, but they're good. Just kinda puny. I thought I had the best wings in the world this summer in Portland. Turns out, I was wrong! They're right here in Eugene! We tried 4 varieties, including today's special, Jamaican rub. Although we weren't able to participate in hot wing challenge we did take 10 kamikaze wings back to hotel and they were fiery! Great crunch of coating while they were good. As hot pepper connoisseur the wings were spicy without much flavor. They lacked the depth of fresh peppers they made beads of sweat cover the other half's forehead and lips tingle. I choose the raspberry habanero wings great flavor combination but I lost the heat after a couple wings. Superb customer service by Erin! Hopefully we will be back to participate in wing challenge and watch the other contestants suffer for the 10 minutes, can't wait to own the shirt that would have been his today. I enjoy coming here to get their happy hour or daily specials because thats when the food is most affordable. Wings are some of the better ones you can get in the Eugene area although wing options are pretty slim overall. They have really good flavors and one of the top tasting buffalo sauces that doesn't just taste like store bought, which is nice. Fries must be ordered on the side when ordering wings and they are fairly expensive, luckily they give you a huge amount, so much more than expected. Burgers are good and if you come on sunday i believe its burger and brew day which is a great combo. Small building but added seating outside to help out with space. First tried Hot Mama's shortly after they opened. They had some things to figure out, so I was happy things improved. The wings are really good and they have a surprising selection of healthy options. Great salads and gluten free rolls. And if I don't feel like beer, they have kombucha on tap. The staff is friendly and efficient. A couple of times the wings have been dry and/or on the small side, but otherwise, all good!
