Used to go every week for takeout tikka. They made the first coupla months worth "mild." My favorite restaurant in Woburn and very popular with the desi community. I would just say if you live in the neighborhood and have not stepped inside, you are missing out. I would actually categorize this joint as a restaurant. Calling it just a bakery is not doing it justice. They have some really nice croissants and buns stuffed with Indian fillings like Chicket tikka, chicken curry, minced goat meat, eggs, jalapenos and cheese. I am a big fan of the "goat puff". If that sounds too spicy for your tastebuds, they also have great pastries. Try their black forrest or chocolate fudge cake. I regularly pick up a Biryani (I alternate between the mutton and the chicken each time) once or twice a week. I like their chicken curry as well. It varies a bit from day to day, but I think sometimes it contains coconut and is made in the South Indian style. Their chicken tikka roll and "vada paav" is decent as well. They also have great dosas and yummy, but slightly overpriced uttapams. I recommend the "Onion uttapam" They recently started stocking samosas but not very regularly. I have not yet tried their chaat dishes or paav bhaji. I wish they would start giving me a frequent eater discount! Happy eating! read more

My husband and me have frequented this place many times since we moved to the great Boston area and accidentally discovered it. They have the best Indian snacks I have had in US! The veggie patty and paneer patty is delicious. We also love the chicken panini here. It's really yummy. We had ordered the veggie biryani once but I wasn't a fan of it. That apart everything has been delicious here.The best part is it's cheaply priced and they have great customer service. Would definitely recommend it to others. read more

Oh Man, I cannot begin to tell you how much we love this place. Out of the NYC/NJ area in the northeast, I would say they have the best south indian. Especially Dosas. Its on the spicier side, so not everyone can handle it, but its just the way we like it. And, they are not very expensive. Its not a proper restaurant, more of a take-out kinda place, but they do offer tables if you want to sit and eat. I can never get enough of them. read more

Terrible service with pretty rude people; I never feel comfortable like you should at a restaurant. But the food is pretty decent, I love the samosa pav and the pav bhaji is good. It's insanely unhygienic (which makes it feel like i'm in India again) and the restaurant seems unclean and not up to par with their health inspections and such. I think it is a little overpriced for the quality of their food and bad service but what can you do. If you have eaten street food in India you probably won't mind the uncleanliness of this restaurant. read more

We went to Hot Breads right before it closed on Monday. The jalapeno & cheese bread and mix veg bread was our sit down meal which was DELISH! What a great concept. I go here often, and it's a great little Indian bakery with western influences. They sell a lot of pastries, e.g. paneer masala croissant, goat curry puff (yum!), jalapeno cheese bun, cakes, cookies, breads, etc. They also sell fresh cappati (10 for $4) daily. Their indian savory pastries are good though a tad expensive compared with American savory pastries (e.g. spinach and cheese croissant) but then there are very few of these Indian bakeries around. They also do cook to order Indian food, and I recommend their dosas. Until recently, there was no place to sit and eat. I went yesterday, and they've reorganized the bakery and have put in tables and chairs, so it's now a place one can actually relax and eat vs. standing at their pub style tables to eat (previously). On weekend mornings, this place is very busy with lots of folks getting their dosas and breakfasts there. It's definitely worth a trip. Street parking can be a bit tricky, but if hard pressed, there's a public parking lot closeby that's within 5 minutes walking distance. Overall prices are reasonable here. read more

Wow, their cakes are incredible, and so inexpensive! Tiramisu and mouse cake, black forest and mixed fruit, all for under $3... Cookies, not so good to me, but maybe it's a cultural thing which you need to grow up around. All the puff pastries meals/snacks were delicious also, they make a good tikka croissant. In search of a bakery for dessert while in the area, saw Hot Breads when we were dining across the street so decided to stop in. It was raining and parking was scarce so my friend went in not knowing why type of bakery/restaurant this was. I was in the car Yelping and realized it was a bakery/restaurant serving many authentic Indian faire. She was quite surprised when she went in but the staff was very friendly and helpful. She ended up getting a slice of a yellow cake with fruit and a red velvet cake to go. The yellow cake was light and fluffy, mildly sweet and the red velvet was just OK, not very chocolately though it looked like it would have been. Very reasonably priced. read more

Everything looked great.............Nothing tasted even decent! I did not get a Puff or something from that family so I'm assuming that might be good (hence an extra star in a square). They have three different menus, North Indian, Rest of India (conveniently titled South India) and a menu stuck behind the counters. I tried one from each, and all three reminded me of one phrase - 'Do Not Judge a Book by its Cover'. By the end, I was skeptical even with the drinking water provided there and I was in no mood to try out a delicious looking cake. I had lost faith even in the bottled drinks on sale there. Quite authentic Indian style bakery. Love the Pav bhaji, my other favorites and must try are dosa, idli, most of the North Indian gravies. The pastries are amazing, especially the eggless Black Forest and pineapple, can't even tell it's eggless, so moist and spongy, must, must try. The party orders are very generous and cheap. "Half tray"can easily feed 6-8 people! They can change the spice level according to your preference. The "medium" can be too spicy so watch out! Pani puri is okay and so are the various croissants or biscuits/cookies. Don't really care for their vada Pav or paninis. The chaat is strictly okay too. All in all a great eat, especially at the price! If you don't mind the ambience and Hindi music(which for some of us is a feeling of being right at home) then it is a very good deal!! read more

My experience with hot breads is limited to take out lunch but, on that score, we've been really satisfied. I find their food to be authentic, complex in flavors and ample in quantity - all at a good price. Their goat curry is fabulous - especially when you get a freshly cooked batch! and their yellow dal is the best I've ever had at a restaurant, anyway. The fish curry was also tasty. Their sides are so-so; raita not bad, breads not hot or fresh enough but ok. All in all a good place for good food and good value at lunchtime. read more

I must admit that I am a little bit surprised by the amazing reviews this place received...or maybe a little let down after reading all the great reviews. I got 3 puff pastries filled with chicken tikka for about 7.50 which is reasonable but not what I would consider cheap when you factor in the very minimum amount of filling and the insane amount of grease in the croissant. And by minimum amount of filling I mean so little filling I had to rip the pastry apart to find the tiny amount of dry chicken. On the plus side the service was good and the gentlemen were very friendly. I will probably give this place another shot if I am in this area again but I will not be ordering the puff pasties next time. read more

this kind of gets two stars for the food, and two stars for the weird experience. it took almost 15 minutes for me to get a 'veggie panini' made. it contained cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, and cheese, and some indian spread/spices on round flatbread. i have no idea why it took so long to make it, but it was kind of worth it--flavorful and spicy (even though they made it "mild" for me!), unlike most fast-ish lunches you can get. at least the long wait allowed me to watch some awesome indian music videos (though sadly there was no tunak tunak) and check out the totally dumpy eating area a bit. there were handwritten, misspelled signs; veggie danishes that looked like they had spiderwebs on them (i think it was just cheese, but still); dusty old wedding cakes; a sad baby birthday cake missing two of its three ABC blocks (though you could still see where the blocks had been). overall it was kind of like miss havisham's bakery or something. strange, but wonderful. and probably more delicious than miss h's cake. note: cash only! and they don't ticket you for parking in the bank/blockbuster lot across the street (at least they didn't ticket me... but i guess you never know!). read more

The sides are tasty because it is greasy and rich in cream, cashews. Watching out your health ? Head south Asked for naans and we got flattened buns that tasted yuck !!! Not fresh, did not taste anywhere close to a naan. Jalebis are great mixture was soggy not fresh. read more

I am a fan of spicy Indian food..both North and South Indian... I eat at Hot Breads a lot at least once in 2 weeks. It is not a nicely decorated fine dine-in restaurant but the food here is tasty at a reasonable price and has a Bakery too.. I love the Andhra Spicy Dosa here and Egg Masala is just Awesome!! They served us stale samosa. We complained to the person in charge asking him to at least check it and to not serve it to the people coming later. He was least bothered and said he'll check but continued to sell and bill people. He didn't even apologize and was clearly unfazed. Now we just hope we wouldn't fall sick. This is the second time we came here and even bought friends along but after this We'll never ever visit again! You cannot just serve people stale food and not be bothered! read more

what started out as an interesting name to an indian restaurant, quickly turned into a horrible experience guys, before you all jump to conclusions that this is a nice place. please see and notice following pieces of info. i am posting this after detailed info, investigation and analysis. caps are to emphasize the severity of shit going on out there. 1. first things first, the curries that they offer are not cooked. they have an indian grocery store (the store right across the street from their place) they use those ready to eat frozen curries of haldiram etc and offer that to you all as your aloo mutters, paneer tikka masalas, chana masalas etc. check carefully next time you go. those curries cost $2.49 from the stores and these bastards charge you $6.99 for that readymade reheated piece of crap, which you could heat yourself in your microwaves. 2. pastries are recycled (least are not fresh). exception: pineapple pastries are popularly sold and so they may have some quality maintained. 3. biryani is 2 3 days old and they don't even care to heat that for you 4. appetizers like samosas are kept in open (no cover whatsover) for more than a day 5. kitchen - i wouldn't dare to even recall the sight 6. hygiene standards are at the lowest. my next call is going to the authorities for sure. - my friend and i got health issues after eating their food - kids may be avoided to eat their food. severe risk of health read more

One of the best reasons to brave the traffic hazards of Main Street, Woburn. An unexpected surprise! A combination of American, European, and Indian baked goods. I never would of thought of making sag paneer (a traditional Indian spinach-cheese dish) in a croissant. The Indian-style coffee with cream was a special treat. I look forward to many epicurean adventures. If you can't get parking on busy Main Street, remember there is a lot behind the CVS on the other side of the road. read more
