There's a lot of food trucks in Austin. There are a few that I consider above the rest and Spicy…read moreBoys is one of those joints. Spicy Boys has four locations in the Austin area, with probably their most popular at Zilker Brewing. They are a spicy chicken establishment and their spicy chicken comes in different shapes and sizes from bone-in fried chicken, chicken sandwiches, and nuggets. I have only ever ordered their fried chicken sandwich and every time, I have been a fan. I always get their middle option in heat, the Hot Gai, which is sandwiched between the OG and the Tingly Gai. It hits every time. The mayonnaise, the pickles, the perfectly crisp chicken: you can't miss it. As a side, I ALWAYS without fail get their Tater Tots. They are consistently crispy while remaining soft on the inside. Sometimes I will get it seasoned with their Tingly Sichuan, but the heat is sometimes too much. I cannot recommend the tots enough. Spicy Boys is one of those places that is always there for you. They are consistently open and the people making the orders are putting a ton of dedication into making them smack every time. The sandwich alone comes at $9.50 with the tots at $3.50, which seems on par or slightly lower than a typical food truck if my memory serves me right. I recommend giving them a shot whether you are at Spokesman in Pflugerville, St. Elmo Brewing, or Zilker off 6th Street. It's in the upper echelon of food trucks. RIYL: peak chicken sammys

It just seemed like chicken chicken to me. No big deal. But then I had been drinking Zilker Brewery's own beer. If the price of protection from Zilker beer was not being able to taste a chicken sandwich, I was definitely ahead of the game.

Extremely disappointing service and an experience that left us feeling discriminated against…read more We had been at this bar for about an hour and had already purchased multiple rounds of drinks. As closing time approached, we went to order one last round, which is a completely normal part of going to a bar. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple interaction turned into an extremely uncomfortable experience. The female bartender, a Caucasian woman with black hair in a ponytail wearing a black tank top, had an attitude from the start. While chatting with her coworkers instead of attending to customers, she was approached by my friend, who politely asked for three Mexican candy shots. Her response was, "I guess," with a clear attitude. When my friend asked if she didn't want to make them, she bluntly responded, "I don't." She then refused to make our drinks. A second bartender, a Caucasian man wearing a Texas tank top and a hat, ended up making the shots. When we questioned the unnecessary attitude, he had no explanation and offered no comment. He could clearly see that we were upset, so he proceeded to take a shot with us and say, "Cheers." We never offered to buy him a shot, and taking shots with customers while on the clock raises another concern entirely. What makes this experience particularly troubling is that we observed white patrons being served without any apparent issues or similar attitudes. Meanwhile, we were met with hostility and an outright unwillingness to serve us. As people of color, it's difficult not to question whether our skin color played a role in how we were treated. The difference in treatment left us feeling singled out, unwelcome and discriminated against. This wasn't about being upset over a bar closing or being denied drinks after last call. We understood that closing time was approaching. We had been there for an hour, had already purchased multiple rounds, and were simply trying to order one last round while the bar was still serving customers. There was absolutely no reason for the bartender to speak to us that way or openly refuse to serve us. If you don't want to work in the service industry, perhaps it's time to find another line of work. Basic courtesy and professionalism should be the bare minimum, regardless of who walks through the door. Management needs to take this incident seriously. If this establishment genuinely has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, then there should be meaningful accountability, not just a slap on the wrist. Customers should never have to question whether they'll be treated differently because of the color of their skin. We came here to enjoy ourselves, not to be made to feel unwelcome. This experience has left a lasting impression, and based on how we were treated, I would not feel comfortable returning.

Really enjoyed Anthem's Happy Hour! (M-F open-7pm)…read more We split a variety of items off their HH menu: - banana daiquiri (sweet and tropical vibes) - Lychee Lowdown (floral and refreshing) - Salmon poke (full sized and fresh) - Itchy Salmon (warm and rich) - Brisket Rangoons (crispy and savory) - Miso Mac Daddy (loved their take on mac and cheese balls!) Service was excellent as there weren't too many patrons on the afternoon that we visited. The decor is cute yet casual. When we're back in Austin, we'll definitely come back!

Definitely has a kick, be prepared if you don't take spicy food well. Thai Hippie Tofu - Good flavor, although there was a little too much sauce and salty for my taste. Char-Buff Cauliflower - Good and flavorful. Hawaiian Shrimp Ceviche - Refreshing and a nice option. Itchy Salmon - Two tiny pieces of sushi, but they were good. Brisket Rangoons - Just okay for me. This was probably my least favorite dish of the night. Sweet Potato Waffle Fries - crispy with good flavor. A fun side to share. Smash Burger - We had it cut in half, which made it perfect for sharing. Good burger and a satisfying way to end the meal. Overall, a fun spot for happy hour if you want to order several different dishes and share. There was a good variety.

Gahdamn this place is delicious! Tried it for the first time and I am already a returning customer…read more I ordered the soy garlic, sweet & spicy, and sweet & sour as well as their chicken dumplings. I ordered to-go but the ambience of the restaurant looked laidback and was very tidy. I was greeted with a friendly smile and promptly handed my order hot ready to go, well packaged there were not leaks, spills, or greasy oily bags. The food is AWESOME, the service from what I can tell is GREAT, the place is convenient and visibly located. I WILL be back!

The skin was incredibly crispy (just how I like it!) and the soy garlic sauce had a great balance of sweet and savory flavor without being overpowering. They definitely didn't skimp on the size either--5 wings was more than enough! I skipped the sides this time because I wanted to focus on the wings, but their onion rings caught my eye, so I'll definitely be back to give those a try. Now...the only downside was the parking. It looked like the front parking lot had been freshly painted because every parking space was blocked off with cones. Everything appeared dry, so I wasn't sure why the cones were still there. That forced everyone to park in the back, which was already super congested. I mentioned it to the staff, but they didn't seem too concerned. Honestly, if I hadn't been determined to try this place--or if it had been any hotter outside or I hadn't gotten lucky finding a parking spot--I probably would've left. Thankfully, the wings made up for the inconvenience! If they can get the parking situation figured out, this spot will be an even better experience. I'll definitely be back...and next time, those onion rings are coming home with me!
