My first Italian dinner in Italy and my only problem was where to eat. Our hotel were steps from Trevi Fountain and there are--literally--hundreds of restaurants in the area. After looking at several menus, we chose Hostaria Trevi; and what a good choice it was. I've had great pasta in the States and considered myself experienced. My Spaghetti con Polpette was the best I've eaten. The pasta was cooked to al dente perfection. The meat sauce was absolutely fantastic. When I was young, I worked in an Italian restaurant that had spaghetti with meatballs as one of its signature dishes. I learned early in life what good spaghetti should taste like. The Spag MB (restaurant shorthand) at HT was sublime. Maybe being in Rome enhanced my experience, but the folks in the kitchen have some serious skills. I ate my dinner so fast that our Italian server even made a comment--althought it was in Italian. Service was good and our waiter was attentive and spoke some English, which was better than my Italian. The dining area was small and intimate. What I noticed in Rome was many restaurants had small dining rooms and made up for it lots of outside dining. Taking into consideration the city, it's definitely a wonderful way to enjoy a meal in a beautiful city. If you're looking for a place to eat near Fontana di Trevi, you can't go wrong with HT

I ordered the first dish from the menu, and I got the dish like this. For a second I thought I was in the wrong restaurant. I saw one American couple sat down and waited for service, 5-7 minutes later they got up and left. Service was slow, but the waiters were friendly. I didn't expect the food to be tasty at the hot tourist spot, but at least it shouldn't present the false image/menu.

My last meal in Rome did not disappoint here! Randomly stumbled upon this place after a quick visit to the Trevi fountain and Spanish steps. Quickly seated, everyone was so nice and the food was delicious! Simple, hearty and flavorful. The wine was good too! And there was no over pricing or cover charge here due to the location. I would definitely come back here again.

After a long day of wandering and then sitting on the Spanish Steps for three hours, I stumbled across this interesting little spot for dinner in September 2011. Despite the fact that I speak zero Italian, I was able to get through ordering a Birra Peroni and a piece of the housemade lasagna. The beer was amazingly cold and the lasagna was perfect. *Almost* as good as what Mrs. K makes for me. The picture I took just doesn't do it proper justice. Service was good, again that I do not speak Italian was not a problem. My water glass was refilled often and the second beer was just as good as the first.

Overall experience: 3.5 This restaurant is in a great location - right next to the Trevi Fountain. I had seen this restaurant on Yelp and saw it had great reviews. I had been in Italy for the last week and honestly, the Italian food had been nothing special. So when I saw that this place had 4.5 reviews, was family owned, and had great pasta I had to come with my family. Unfortunately, only one word could describe my experience - disappointing. Now, service was excellent. But whenever doing these reviews, I have to be as objective and honest as possible. I saw that the spaghetti with meatballs was meant to be very good. Honestly, it was okay. Spaghetti was a decent texture but the sauce was thin and didn't have a strong tomato flavor. Meatballs were very soft but not too bad. The seafood spaghetti was decent. I had some nice seafood flavor in the sauce, but that was not consistent throughout the whole sauce. The shrimp was good but the clams, squid and mussels were underwhelming. The olso bucco did not look like the picture. The picture in the menu had a brown sauce but in person it was red. Perhaps it may be due to it being an acquired taste, but my piece had too much vein and fat. The sauce was not very flavorful but the potatoes were nice and soft. I really wanted to love the food here, but unfortunately it was not as good as a i hoped. The staff here is very nice and the restaurant is nice and clean. Unfortunately, the food was underwhelming.

I wanted to have the ultimate Rome experience and try cacio e pepe. After reading the reviews for this restaurant, we decided to try it as it's right down the street from our hotel and around the corner from the Trevi Fountain without the outrageous price gouging you might expect. Each meal was 10€ and a large bottle of still water was 3€ which seems to be the going rate anywhere. The cacio e pepe did not disappoint. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce wasn't overly cheesy or peppery. You can tell they've mastered this specialty. My son is a gnocchi aficionado and raved about his dish which was served with the most amazing pesto sauce. The servings were large. I would have asked for bread to sop that pesto up if I'd been hungry still.

NOT A TOURIST TRAP - This restaurant is fantastic if you want a great meal in the Trevi area. Food is delicious, service is classic, ambiance...belissimma! You really cant go wrong. The pesto gnocchi was great: It allows me to vouch for the pesto AND gnocchi. The ravioli bolognese was really good. I saw a few locals come in and get to go plates while we were there.

It's a small hidden gem near the Trevi Fountain. Sweet little place, friendly owner and staff, menu in all languages and it's not too expensive. Clean bathroom is a plus. The first good spaghetti and meatballs I had in Rome. Loved also the accordionplayer that came in later that night. Music, wine and pasta. What do you want more? I'll be sure to come back here again.

We decided to try this spot out because it was close to the Trevi Fountain and it looked like a typical italian restaurant that was affordable. The Italian grandpa walking up and down also helped. The first night I got a lasagna and I was floored. My friend also enjoyed her dish. We had to go back the following 2 nights we were in Rome. I would highly recommend this restaurant. After, you should get dessert at Gelato 54. The gelato tasted so incredibly fresh!!!

Not the most romantic setting, but definitely some amazing food for a great price. I had the Gnocchi al Pesto and I would suggest it to everyone that goes for sure. The pizza was great too, I especially liked it because it wasn't very crispy and had that floury bottom with a crunchy crust. Be sure to stop by here for dinner when visiting the Trevi at night.

Best restaurant in Rome!!! Delicious food, good vibes. The chicken is zesty and lemony and their steak is amazing. Molto bene

When we arrived on a late afternoon, we waited about 10 minutes before getting seated. To start off, we got the Limoncello Spritz (€10) and Aperol Spritz (€10), which were refreshing. For our pasta, we ordered the Fettuccine with Oxtail (€18) and Carbonara (€17). We also wanted to order two more Secondi dishes, but the waiter warned us that the pasta is filling. After we finished the pasta, we did still order the Rabbit (€19) because it wasn't something we usually see on the menu. For the carbonara, the flavor was delicious but not really my favorite pasta shape. It was also quite al dente with a chewy texture. I have to say that the oxtail was spectacular though with its juicy and tender meat sauce. While the rabbit was nice to try once, it was a bit dry with minimal meat. Overall, good spot but nothing worth waiting too long for. Also, I'd stick to the pasta here as it's all handmade. You even see them handrolling them inside. Note that they also charge €2 per person for service fee already.

From the food to the experience, this place is a must when you're in Rome. I'd come back again and again without hesitation.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.
