What a delightful neighborhood bar! It was packed for a Monday night. People were energetically playing pool. All bar seats were filled. Customers were singing along to the music with the bartender. Enjoyed whiskey with a friend while chilling on the couch in the second room. Apparently there's also a patio. Loved the service. Food was decent. I had a French Dip sandwich with a side of Buffalo Tots. Thank goodness their kitchen is open until 10pm. Makes sense this place is poppin' with all the apartment and condo complexes nearby. This was a great spot for after work HH. Their HH offerings and times have changed significantly since some of the previous reviews I read. However the service was good, drinks were good, and tots were awesome! It's got great vibes and was easy to go to with a larger group and not deal with too much noise or crowds. We ended up here after trying to go to DBar and being turned away because they were too busy. It was raining and we just wanted to get a few more drinks. Definitely a dive bar, but drinks were cheap and service was friendly and fast. I was looking at some of the pics of the inside on here from a few years ago and it looked way cooler with red booths and a pool table, etc. I'm not sure if COVID had some kind of impact on that. Well I already knew from other reviews that this was my place. I also realized there was probably going to be a bouncer. Well We stroll up and see this guy but weren't sure if he was the bouncer so we walked pass him but then he said can I just make sure you guys have IDs? I was like "oh I didn't know if you were the one" and he was like "I couldn't tell if you guys were going to come in or not " LOL. Anyway I walk in I see mystery shot $2. I think to myself oh god this is even better than Mystery Price on chips and guacamole at other restaurants. *Tater Tot Review Included* The best part about the tots at this place is the variety. At 7 different options for tots (besides plain tots), you have quite a few options. I got the Thai ginger, truffle, buffalo, & pesto, with that same order being how I would place them in rank of flavor. Each of them had solidly crunchy taters, with minimal sogginess regardless of the amount of sauce used. Thai ginger was quite novel with some sweet chili sauce and the combination with ginger was lovely. The truffle and buffalo were both delicious with their classic flavors added to tots. The pesto option was lackluster with the shaved cheese and cold pesto. We ended up simply scraping off the toppings on that plate and eating those plain. Every time I visit home (Denver) and stay with my BFF, we always end up at the Horseshoe because it is within stumbling distance of her apartment. It is also an awesome dive/neighborhood bar with consistently friendly bartenders and regulars. The inside is clean, fun, and nicely decorated for a dive bar. They have pool tables, arcade games, and a lot of vintage beer signs which are cool. Prices are great- you can easily get a good buzz on for less than 20 bucks with a healthy tip included. I recently tried food for the first time (I had no idea they had food), and their pizza is amazing! We had a pepperoni/pineapple pizza and I was seriously surprised at how good it was. We also tried the spinach dip, which was average but still good especially at happy hour prices. The only reason I give this 4 instead of 5 stars is simply because it is frequently crowded and there isn't a good method for people to order drinks other than shoving themselves in between people sitting at the bar. I know this is not entirely the bar's fault, but it would be nice if they took away some chairs so that there was more of a space for others to order without spilling drinks all over the people sitting at the bar. Overall, awesome neighborhood bar and I love going there every time I visit Denver! read more

Local dive bar in up town. Prices were a lot more than other bars throughout downtown. A simple white claw was $7 when I kept getting them for $3-$5 throughout town. You would wait at the front to get seated. You can tell the servers were all over the place because one would attend to you then another would walk by and ask if you needed help. It was nice, but way more work for the workers. The drinks were not all that. I did like that everyone kept to themselves and people weren't rowdy. I also liked the fact that they played bay area music (where I am from). We were recommended this place by the gentleman from retrograde when we weren't able to get a table there. They do require you to leave a tab open with a credit card, which I opted out and closed my tab right away instead. Me and my bf didn't stay long, as it just wasn't the place for us. read more

After coming here for the first time with a large group of about 20+ people on Tuesday, I returned tonight to have some drinks, dinner, and a nice time with a friend. Everything was great until "Mike" the bartender asked us for ID's. I gave him mine, he looked at it, and then announced loudly to everyone at the bar that I was now the oldest person in the room. THEN he looked at my friend's ID, then looked at me and called me a "cradle robber". First of all, my age and the age difference between myself and whom I'm with is NONE of anyone's business, and Mike should know this. And it's not very bright to insult the man with the thick wallet who's buying drinks. He was lucky I still tipped him, but we limited ourselves to the one beer and took our good business to down the street to Campfire, where they had a diverse crowd and the bartenders were respectful. read more

Wow I really thought my experience was an isolated incident until I read the reviews. I feel compelled to write this to second what others have said and warn other gay people from going to this place. My partner and I were playing pool when someone came up aggressively screaming homophobic remarks in our faces until we left. To this day it's the worst instance of homophobia I've experienced in my life. The bartender knew her by name and seemed to laugh it off at the time. What an amazing happy hour discovery! Every day till 7 (rare to find), not too crowded, near downtown. They have food on the HH menu too (dips and sliders) and cheap and flavorful tator tots! Although I have been to Jonesy's Eatbar several times (of which I am a huge fan) I had never ventured next door into the Horseshoe Lounge until last night. I liked the comfy, cozy, retro, not-quite-divey, atmosphere. We grabbed a booth on the far wall. It was dimly lit . . . the kind of place one might gather to discuss nefarious plots. Our waitress appeared promptly. She was impressive, like a force of nature (seriously). She helped us make choices, brought drinks and food quickly, and was very friendly. We split a very respectable turkey sandwich (the Gobbler) with chips and some mini corn-dogs (10 wee doggies). This was nice finger food. We also had the Piggie Tots with cheddar and bacon. These delicious, greasy, filling gems are the "dark twins" of the fabulous fries available at Jonesy's. Although they are not quite in the same gastronomic league, they certainly hit the spot. There was a nice beer selection and my Dry Dock Apricot Blonde was cold and delicious. If I lived in the neighborhood, this could easily be my hangout. read more
