Everyone's food was good except mine. I usually love their food and give high ratings but can't this time. Service was good, beer delicious, brisket Po boy was yuck. Not delivered as described in menu. The brisket was chunks of grizzly meat in bbq sauce. Not the delicious sliced brisket but the bad end bits that are probably great in their chili. No mention of bbq sauce on the menu and I'm not a fan of BBQ sauce but slathered in it. I could have over looked the hamburger bun it was served on instead of a proper Po boy roll. Total fail. I told the waitress. She didn't care. She's probably a good waitress but doesn't know how to deal with problems. No replacement item offered and charged me for it. Hop Saint, shame on you! read more

We recently moved to Gardena from Glendale and decided to try to find a new brewpub to call our cheers. We ordered takeout to sample the food. I tried the baby back ribs and my hubs got the chicken and andouille gumbo. The gumbo was incredibly spicy (and my husband likes spice) but that wasn't the worst part. The andouille was the color of beef and even tasted like rubbery beef...not sure how or why pork sausage would take like beef. The ribs were also rubbery and bland. I tried to add my own bbq sauce but the bland flavor and hard texture was still hard to take. The one edible part of our meal was the cornbread muffin. It was more of a savory muffin than a sweetened one and there were big pieces of onion inside. I can't speak to the beer but I think we'll look around for another brewpub before giving this spot another try read more

Amazing!! Award wining Pure Intention beer is awesome. Heading back from Disney to my sister in laws place. My wife just happened to find this gem. Kids ordered the Mac and cheese and the cheese flat bread. We all loved it. Flavors were on point. We decided to order a few apps. Got the deviled eggs, Brussel sprouts and bacon slices. Man was that good. The brisket was on special but felt like it was too much food and we wanted to try a variety of things...... we ordered the brisket to go for breakfast tomorrow morning. I have a good feeling it's going to be amazing!!!! And of course the beer. Ordered the flight to taste. Went with the Pure Intention. It's won some awards. The aroma that it give off on the first sip is wonderful. Amazing flavor. We will be back when we visit my sister in law!! read more

Sunday at 1:30 and 25 of us dropped in for lunch. They have one huge high table and we crammed enough chairs around. The smoked brisket was a perfect balance of smoke, fat and lean smoked meat and was succulent and savory without being overwhelmed. The coleslaw was tasty. We also has the bbq chicken salad which was fresh crunchy tasty and the chicken was also perfectly cooked. We liked the burgers, and the tri tip. The torn potatoes were okay. A 3.4 from me, rounding down to 3 stars. Lots of parking in the back. The ambience is pretty cool. We arrived Friday night, and the place was fairly crowded. The crowd was on the older side, lots of mid aged couples. Not a lot of wheat beer choices, I'm not so much of a hoppy person so the IPA isn't really for me. I got the Hopsaint Cacophony and I really enjoyed it, but it was probably the only beer I would have liked. The biggest disappointment was the food. We got the Bacon Belly bites, Pulled pork poutine, and the Smoked pork back ribs. The meat was on the dry side. Nothing about the food really stood out to me, and the taste was mediocre. read more

Loved it :-) ..... New West Torrance brewery pub in the former Billy's Deli and Cafe space in Anza Plaza on 190th Street has soft opened. HopSaint, a standalone restaurant and microbrewery that holds a ten barrel system and serve all manner of smoked and fire-cooked meats. I like the setup..feels open and clean with three options Long bar, communal tables, and private booths. We sat at the bar and we ordered the 5 samplers 3 beers which they brew and two other we allowed our server to pick for us. We loved all the beers we tasted and ordered more :-) Not only HopSaint has incredible beers it also has amazing food, here are the items I ordered and loved each and every one. Deviled eggs with crispy pork and pickled shallots and chives: Deviled eggs were done to perfection and small piece of crispy pork was a pleasant addition Braised Southern Greens with cane syrup and bacon and hot sauce: This item is a must, we loved it so much we ordered another order of it Last but not least we ordered was roasted chicken and shrimp jambalaya ....Perfect main dish for the greens Service was prompt and super friendly.... Came across this brewery during one of my routinely searches for places to grab a good beer on a Saturday with lunch. I kept reading from others that HopSaint was still in their soft opening stage. Well I'm eager to see whats to come because if the food and beer are any indication at this point, their future is looking great. Greeted, sat and was given a quick rundown of the beer menu. Great way to start this visit out. Me and a friend ordered a couple of Maximum Chaos IPA's while putting in our orders for plates we chose. I really enjoyed this beer. The beer wasn't as thick to the tongue as it appeared visually and was smooth going down with a nice hop flavor. The plates arrived just in time for ordering a second round of beer. The grilled corn bread was sweet and perfect for dipping into the broth of the killer shrimp which gave it some spice. The persimmon butter added more sweet to the cornbread but mellowed with the broth. The brussel sprouts were delicious with the apple and bacon stealing the show in terms of flavor from the dish. The skillet chicken sandwich was a bit dry and very lite in seasoning while the Hopsaint burger was the complete opposite being very juicy, well seasoned and contained a perfectly fried egg with yolk bursting out when bit into. I wasn't leaving without trying their key lime pie which surprisingly was a perfect pairing with the Maximum Chaos IPA more so than the other dishes. This pie was amazing and the beer compliments it quite well. HopSaint is off to a cool start. New microbrewery and gastropub in South Torrance. Hopsaint has been a year and a half in the making. Situated in an newly renovated space with a woody beechy interior that has a long bar with two large LED screens, and a exhibition brewery, Hopsaint is a great neighborhood brewpub if you are lucky enough to live in South Torrance. We actually saw people arrive on bikes of walking down the street. Currently they have only 3 house beers. I had the Bubble Butt Blonde and the Hopsaint Eleven Eight. They do have a Hoppy IPA with a bitter finish, but now that I am older I don't like to pucker. The Blonde is one of those beers you can drink all night at 5% and the Eleven Eight is a brown ale with a caramel palate and would go great with a steak or burger. They also have a 3 beer flight if you want to try all of their beers. Menu wise, since they are doing a soft opening and probably since they have a "farm to table" concept, the menu is very Fall friendly with squash, kale, mushrooms, etc. We tried the wood roasted mushrooms that included tree, brown, and shimeji mushrooms with shallots and balsamic vinegar. The dish was missing something, like maybe some thyme or other herbs since the wood roasting did not add any flavor. The dish seemed like it was added to round out the menu. We also ordered the Turkey Gumbo with Andouille sausage. The server said that it was chicken instead. One of the key ingredients of gumbo is the roux, and the roux gave the gumbo a nice dark creamy consistency with a spicy aftertaste. The Andouille was a pretty good quality since it did not have any gristle in it. I would put their gumbo against any I have had in Lafayette or New Orleans. Our server, Edith, was awesome. She knew about the beer and menu and was always around when we needed her. I could see myself coming here at least once a month, or more often if I lived down the street. read more

Bottom Line Up Front: Plenty of parking, pretty good sized brewery with plenty of tables/seats. Lots of screens which means perfect for game watching. Ambiance is fantastic and what you'd imagine for a cool/chill brewery. Great beer + food selection. Killer Shrimp dish is amazeballs! A good friend of mine had his birthday dinner here on a Thursday night and by the end of the night I couldn't believe this was tucked away in Torrance--I loved it! There was plenty of parking when I arrived but I must say, I was surprised by how busy the brewery was for a Thursday night. They had a pretty good selection of beer and food. I went with the chicken + shrimp jambalaya and although it was delicious with a spicy kick, it tasted more like a gumbo. Regardless, it was fantastic and I would highly recommend the dish. My favorite dish, however, was my friend's who got the Killer Shrimp under the appetizer menu. I pretty much ate half of her dish because it was so tasty! It comes with a loaf of salted french bread for sauce-dipping. If I go back, I'll be sure to order this and only this with a side of delicious brew. read more

I am thankful for the location (close to my place), ample parking, and the look and build out of the place is nice. So it has a good base to start from as a local hangout. So why the 3 stars? - I love microbrews, but I find their beer very mediocre. In comparison with one another, some are better than others, and they usually aren't bad, I just haven't had one standout to the point where I crave one again. - The food is decent but not great in my opinion. Again, nothing has tasted bad, but then again, nothing has stood out to me. This is a place that I want to give 4 stars but find everything about it, including the service to be very middle of the road, and consistently so. That being the case it's never a place that I'll have any issue going to, but it's also not a place pops in my mind as a place we have to go on any given night. read more

New brewery in the South Bay? I knew I had to check out it as soon as possible. It's in an odd location because compared to other breweries in the South Bay that are near the industrial parts or other restaurants, this one isn't. It's close to a liquor store, 99 cent store, and a Starbucks. It was pretty packed for a Saturday night and it's probably because it is still fairly new. I dug the decor and layout. This place certainly felt more like a restaurant than a brewery, which is still cool but not what I was expecting. Beer and wine selection was ok, Get Out The Way IPA had a great after taste to it. I felt the food was overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. $8 for some deviled eggs or $15 for a small bowl of gumbo? Nah, I'm good. I also took a peep at the party next to us who got the steak and the burger, personally it's not worth the price and you'll probably still be hungry. My Roasted Chicken Flatbread was pretty dry and lacked flavor. Honestly, you're better off driving a few more miles down to Del Amo for any of the restaurant's happy hour. read more

Their killer shrimp appetizer, jambalaya, and strawberry butter cornbread was amazing!!! Friends and I randomly stopped by here after skating on the strand. And it definitely refueled us all. The killer shrimp appetizer came with a loaf of toasted bread which was perfect with killer shrimp. It wasn't enough bread so we asked for 2 more loaves after we finished the first one. Jambalaya was very thick and saucey. Instead of rice, they put grits in it which adds to the thick texture but I would recommend one more scoop of grits because it just seemed more like sauce after a few bites because the grits were all gone! Both killer shrimp and jambalaya were good with bread. We literally wiped it down to the last drop!! However, the #1 dish was the corn bread. This thing just melted in my mouth. Surprisingly the fallopian of strawberry butter they put on top of the cornbread perfectly compliments the cornbread! Who would've thought. I've never tasted something like this before. My tastebuds got a wonderful surprise! They also have flights of beer (obviously). Pick 4 or 8 different kinds (2oz each) The interior is simple and chic. Space is big and non claustrophobic, windows are large. They have booths. Tables, and bar seating. Will definitely be back! read more

My husband had the pulled pork sandwich- very sweet and smoky, they smoke the meat there on site. I had a flatbread pizza from their wood burning oven, it was tasty. The beers I was most interested in were out at the moment, had a delicious beer that the waitress helped me choose based on my preferences. The waitress knows beer, which is a plus, I am always surprised at restaurants that go out of their way to have a great beers and then don't educate the staff on them. The cornbread was tasty, too. Attentive service, great food, great beer. Just wanted to update my review- visited again and had the most AWESOME desert ever- the sizzling hot brownie enveloped in caramel sauce and covered with toasted marshmallow- WOW! It's kind of a hidden gem because not a lot of people talk about this place. They have plenty of parking here. Never have to wait too long for a table. Pretty good gastropub. I had the bubble but blonde beer and it was amazing! The first time I went here, I tried the brisket. It was tender and well seasoned and the salad was actually good! Usually I dislike salads because of the excess amount of green, but their's was just right. The main item that stood out was the pecan pie, I was told it is made in house and it sure tasted as much so. The ratios on the pie were perfect, not too much middle gooey part and crispy crust. Probably the best pecan pie I have ever had. The second time I went, I tried to get a porkchop (which my friend informed me was a Thursday only item) and then the server informed me that they didn't have it. Don't know if my friend was being truthful or just confused. I ended up trying the BELT. The BELT sandwich is highly spicy, which made me drink an excess of water and made me sweat a lot. It was painfully delicious. I would not suggest their cornbread, it did not taste like cornbread to me; more of a flavorless sponge taste. My husband has been anxiously awaiting this to open. And when they did he did a little happy dance. Situated on 190th close to Anza in a weird outdated strip mall (a Tile Store, 99 cent store). Very cool open and modern space with a long bar and nice mixture of long tall tables, other tables of 4 with long row of bench tables. You can also see the beer making tanks through glass enclosure. Nice neighborhood feel to it, as most of the other Breweries and Brewpubs which are sprouting up all over the South Bay. They currently 3 beers which they brew - the Cacaphony IPA was a great choice for you Hopheads out there. They will also have a number of guest taps offering other brewers beers. As well they have a good wine selection. Go figure.. Didn't eat there, but the Deviled Eggs were very popular around us. Will definitely be back for a beer and a bite. read more

Came here on a Sunday around noon with my friend. We were seated right away. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful. The restaurant is farm to table, so the menu constantly changes. Venue: Modern and rustic mixed into one. HopSaint reminds of the Firestone Walker Brewery down in Venice, but much more open with the huge glass windows. Food: Really delicious and good portion size. What we ordered: 1) Brussel Sprouts- How do you know roasted brussel sprouts? It was nicely charred and came with semi pickled apple and bacon. Very good :) 2) Killer Shrimp- It came with fresh, hot bread. The roasted red peppers were a nice touch and it came with huge shrimps. Surprisingly, the sauce wasn't too heavy. Although this was an appetizer, it could easily be eaten as a meal- at least for me! 3) Jambalaya- Amazing flavor. The texture of the jambalaya melted in your mouth. You could taste cheese in the grits. It was really filling. Beer: We got a flight and a pint of beer. We got the Seeding Red, Next Level, Pure Intention, Figure in Black, and Chocolate Trip Porter. The first four beers that I listed were very easy to drink- not too strong. The Chocolate Trip Porter was light, malty, and creamy. Overall, you should try this place- at least for the food. Next time we come back, we want to try the Smoked Pork Back Ribs and the Smoked Duck and Andouille Gumbo. Tip: there is one entrance- the one with the wooden door. read more

Welcome to the neighborhood, HopSaint Brewing! This Gastropub is still in its soft opening phase. The surprisingly mod restaurant is tucked in the southwest corner of the 99 cent store shopping center at 190th and Anza. It is a bustling shopping center, but there was certainly parking available. From the hostess to the server to the busser to the manager, the service is friendly and attentive. If you server is not around, there was someone else ready to hop in and cater to your needs. The restaurant had a nice crowd on Thursday evening, but we were never rushed. Because of the acoustics in the restaurant and the music, the restaurant is quite loud. We sampled many of the menu's tasty offerings, many of which are served in cast iron and/or appear on little butcher block cutting boards. While I would likely skip dessert on my return visit, we absolutely loved the food and DH loved the beer. We had: Lemonade ($3): freshly made, sweet and refreshing. This is some of the best lemonade that I have ever had. Experimental Stout Batch 1 ($6): wow...DH was in love and even I (the non beer drinker) was impressed. The rich, dark beer was smooth and nutty with distinct coffee notes. Outstanding. Deviled Eggs ($7): two hard boiled eggs are halved and filled with a mild yolk filling and topped with bits of pork, pickled red onions and chopped chives. These were very good but a little bland. I would have preferred a little zing in the yolk filling, because the dish liked some imagination. Roasted Brie ($11): a wedge of Brie is roasted in the smoker and topped with orange marmalade and roasted almonds and served with thinly sliced charred French bread. OMG. The smokey, buttery cheese with the sweet and tangy marmalade on the smokey bread are a delicious combination that is a delight to the tastebuds. They even brought more bread when we ran out (the LOs were eating it without cheese). Next time, I am ordering this for dessert. Wild Mushroom Flatbread ($13): fresh dough is stretched into an oval and topped with celery root puree, parmesan and taleggio cheese and lots of roasted mushrooms and finished with fresh chopped chives. This was my least favorite of the entrees, because it was the most basic, but it was delicious. The crunchy crust, the woodsy mushrooms and the creamy cheese all have a smokey note that make it more than a standard mushroom flatbread. But, there are so many wonderful treats here that I would probably skip this in the future. Chili (special): the cast iron dish is filled with a dark, smokey, meaty chili and is served with a sliced of griddled cornbread. It was finished with aged white cheddar, chopped jalapenos and a dollop of sour cream. It was really delicious...it had tons of meat and a modest amount of beans and had excellent smokey-spicey flavors. Baby Back Ribs ($13): four slow roasted ribs are smoked with a caramel sauce until there is a sweet and crunchy bark coating the fall of the bones tender meat for a rich and well prepared BBQ treat that cannot be beat. These are the best ribs that you can get in the South Bay without crossing the 110 or 405 freeways. The creamy house slaw on the side is well seasoned, crunchy and refreshing. Gumbo ($15): a small and deep white bowl is filled with a dark stew loaded with smoked duck and andouille sausage as well as rice. The tint comes from a dark roux that is lovingly prepared before adding the trinity for this perfectly executed dish. It's a little spicy, a lot smokey and perfectly comforting. The little cornbread muffin along side is great for sopping up the last bits of "juice." This dish and the ribs were the best mains of the evening IMO. Brussels sprouts ($10): halved Brussels sprouts are topped with little cubes of apple and smokey bacon and larger cubes or parsnips. They are then roasted until the sprouts are lightly charred and the apples and parsnips are tender and sweet. I loved this dish, and it is quite large (about 2.5 cups worth) so there is plenty to share. Greens ($6): a little cast iron skillet is filled with slow cooked and tender greens and sliced tender onions that have been prepared with cane syrup, bacon and seasoning for a lightly sweet and well seasoned side dish. I really enjoyed this. Because the food was absolutely off the map, we decided to order dessert. We shared: Key Lime Pie ($8): This was the biggest miss of the night, and I would not order it again. The thin, macadamia nut crust is barely present and has no flavor. The key lime filling has WAY too much gelatin and very little flavor. The result is a brick of curd that has the consistency of jello and tastes like yoplait key lime. Blech. Pecan Pie ($8): a slice of pecan pie is topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The pie has a crumbly crust, a brown sugar filling and lots of nuts rather than being a goopy slice with lots of corn syrup and few nuts. It was very good, but I would rather have the outstanding brie for dessert. I'll be back! read more

I use to drink here all the time. I came here on my birthday Memorial Day weekend with my family and was treated extremely rude. I won't be back. Some people are extremely opinionated about service animals. I have a well behaved 12 lbs service dog and she was wrapped in a blanket because one she started her heat and had a diaper on and 2 she just had surgery. A piece of metal was removed from her foot. The lady said "You can't bring that dog in here like that." I told her she was a service dog. Her attitude was so appalling. Even after I told her she was a service dog she said "You can't bring her in like that all wrapped up if she's a service dog." I will never come here again even tho I like the beer. You can get beer anywhere. This was so fkn rude I can't believe someone talked me like this. Lost a loyal customer for sure. read more

I came here with 6 others on a Saturday evening. Unlike the other breweries in Torrance, this is more of a restaurant. They have a pretty great food menu. So if you're looking to also eat while trying some good craft beers, this is the place for you! The only sad thing is that it's not dog friendly like the other breweries. I wasn't able to try any of the beers since I'm pregnant but I tried several of their dishes and they were all delicious! We all shared the following: - Roasted Brussel Sprouts: one of the better ones I've had! Loved the roasted flavor on these. - Pulled Pork Poutine: meaty hearty saucy goodness. This place was awesome. It had great food at a great price with a very friendly service. My husband eats meat and I am a vegetarian and there were plenty of menu options for both of us! Finally got to try this place the other day and came thinking well we gave it a try, but that was about it. I tried the Vienna Lager and it wasn't bad followed by the Illumination and it was just okay. In terms of the food, if I'm going to be charged $15-$20 a plate for some food then it better be worth it and it wasn't. I went with the Jambalaya and it wasn't anything memorable. The sauce was kind of on the soupy side and not really consistent and the grits just didn't go well with it. I would of preferred possibly rice or pasta instead. The Mrs got the Chicken Sandwich and is was decent. The waitress did say that they would be starting a full menu soon as well as brunch. Overall it was worth a try but nothing that made me want to be a regular. read more

Used to really enjoy this place but I will not be coming back. Did not appreciate the service today, and I typically don't complain about service at all. I work in health care and I deal with patients everyday so I know what it's like to have a bad day. However I asked for a spoon to eat with my chilli. The server who came by said yes and went back into the restaurant. I waited for at least 5 minutes without a response, not even an explanation as I watched her cater to other customers. My friend went into the restaurant to ask about the spoon. The server responded with a bit of an attitude saying that all the washers are backed up and that the spoon will be coming out. What I didn't appreciate was not being provided an explanation ahead of time if that was the case. The server herself did not even come out to give us the spoons after it was available. She had the bus boy come out instead. We relayed to him that we were disappointed with having to have waited so long without an explanation and he deferred to management and stated he was only a bus boy. I understand it may be busy, but I definitely did not feel that as a customer any effort was being made. I remember the service being a lot better here. Very very disappointed with this place. Stopped by earlier in the week. They are still in a soft launch so the menu was limited, and were sold out of the shrimp & grits, and a couple of the desserts. Over all, food was better than average, and the 3 beers sampled were OK, That said, it's my understanding that they plan to expand what they brew, as well as services: lunch, brunch, etc. We started off with corn bread and deviled eggs. Corn bread was more dense than fluffy, almost polenta like, with honey butter. I liked the texture and subtle corn flavor. A mustardy flavor dominated the eggs - I prefer mine to be creamier with a hint of tartness. Then came the mains: Turkey Gumbo & Skirt Steak. The gumbo had a bit of a kick that I appreciated, with complex flavors; very enjoyable, but the rice, which was a bit firm, bordering on crunchy, distracted. The steak was the best executed plate of the night. Requested medium rare, and delivered steakhouse medium rare (YUM!); super tender, and very flavorful. The BBQ sauce didn't over power, but added nicely, and the accompanying sides: arugula and parsnips, were delicious, as well. Service was a bit delayed, and at times, inconsistent. The front door banged shut each time it was used, so if you sit near it, you'll have to deal with that, and might get a rush of cold air, as we did. But, I'm sure they'll sort that and more out as they gain experience. There's plenty of easy access parking, and the upside potential is HIGH. So, I plan to return, likely more than once. :) read more
