One thing that was great is how they took time to prepare the home for the moving process, protecting floors, stairs, and other surfaces to make sure zero damage was done. I worked with a different moving company 2 years ago that left me scarred for life with how rude and unprofessional they were. I ended up having to finish the job myself (moving my giant couch up four flights of stairs), so when I knew I was moving again, I did my due diligence and sought out a few quotes. Another company quoted me almost $800 and required a 3 hour minimum for the job!! $800 seemed steep and I knew the job wouldn't take that long... Along came Bookstore Movers who quoted me a reasonable $470 minimum for two hours of work and a maximum of $680 for 3.5 hours of work (price breakdown: $140 per hour with 2 hour min. plus a $190 truck fee). I received a quote within a few hours of requesting it. There was no deposit required and the date was booked. I received detailed emails leading up to the move about FAQs, tips for a seamless move, and the names of my crew including contact info for the crew lead. Abdul (crew lead), Niiwayo "Y.O", and Milly were SO fast and friendly. They wrapped every single item with care in drop cloths and got to moving immediately. Despite the 90 degree heat and a total of five flights of stairs, the job was finished in 2 hours. I was SO impressed. I was so traumatized by my last move that I literally had to walk away while they moved the couch in but before I knew it, I got a text from my boyfriend telling me they had fit it through the door and our living room was all set up. I was so relieved and happy to work with them. If and when we move again, (hopefully not anytime soon, lol), I will 100% be contacting Bookstore Movers... and you should too!

After reading reviews here, reflecting on my own experience with A.M. a few weeks ago and considering my knowledge of moving and packing I have to give Available Movers a full 5+ stars! If you are shopping for moving companies and you have minimal moving experiences or even none at all. Take some time to educate yourself on the process first and so your expectations are planted correctly in the first place. Originally I got an $80 p/h estimate with a $125 service fee. Ultimately I was charged $85 p/h but only a $110 service fee. The difference is negligible and I did not care about the difference. I have to also add that my original estimate was for a weekend that had already passed and not the same as my move out date wound up being. I'm particular and as I've pointed out already have a lot of moving experience. What I don't have is limitless strength and a 26' box truck. I did all the packing and cleared out small stuff and boxes in the weeks before the move. Available Movers came in moved all my big heavy stuff, I wanted them specifically for no packing, no disassembly and no re assembly. The stairs were a burden and take tons of time away but even still they got me out and back in a place 2 miles away in a little less than 4 hours so I was more than happy to pay for the 4 hours and tip the guys! I would definitely call Available movers again and coordinate another one of my moves with them! Thanks guys!

The company assured us they could meet this deadline and charged a deposit of $880 to my credit card. On the scheduled move day, Thursday, May 15, the movers arrived an hour earlier than agreed and abruptly refused to proceed, citing "dusty conditions." They canceled the move on the spot and did not perform any of the services we contracted for. Because of their last minute cancellation, we were forced to scramble for another moving company, request a one day extension of our move out deadline, and absorb significant additional expenses and stress. Despite providing no services whatsoever, Available Movers & Storage then processed an additional charge of $452 to my credit card, bringing the total to $1,332.89. When we requested a refund, the owner, Laura Khokhar, refused. She claimed the company was entitled to a minimum payment of $480 simply because the crew "showed up," even though they refused to complete the job. I filed a complaint with the Fairfax County Department of Consumer Affairs. Ms. Khokhar responded initially, but after I submitted a rebuttal, she stopped communicating with the case worker despite multiple attempts to reach her. The case worker ultimately suggested that I may need to pursue the matter in General District Court. Before taking that step, I attempted to call Ms. Khokhar directly to resolve the issue. She hung up on me. I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but the BBB also received no response from the company. We have since filed a warrant in debt against the CEO of Available Movers & Storage using the address listed on their website (21530 Blackwood Court, Suite 150, Sterling, Virginia 20166). It now appears the CEO may be attempting to avoid service. Based on my experience, I strongly urge consumers to exercise extreme caution before hiring this company. The pattern of unexpected charges, refusal to perform contracted services, lack of communication, and avoidance of accountability raises serious concerns about their business practices.
