I loved the whole experience. There are two parts to the procedure and in between they put you in a full body massage chair. They numb your eyes with eye drops so you don't feel a thing! I never felt pain or haven't felt pain since and it's only been three days since. The staff is so sweet and Dr Hoopes is a funny guy. I have told everyone about how amazing it was and have convinced a few people to do it that were hesitant before. I would go through the whole experience again. Hoopes vision was amazing! Not only do they do high quality work with the latest technology, but their service is incredible, too. My recovery (if you can even call it that) has been so smooth and I had 20/15 vision the day after surgery. Besides the skill of the doctors and the great technology, they make you so comfortable during the visit. The building is beautiful, they have counselors that handle all your questions and concerns, and the day of surgery you even get to wait in a massage chair so you feel very relaxed when you go into surgery. I have mixed feelings about Hoopes. They have a high quality facility and high quality providers but don't communicate everything that you should know before having an eye surgery. When you depend on your sight to earn a living (as most of us do), you need a realistic explanation of how long it will be after a surgery before you can see well. Hoopes falls short in this respect. They are so eager to sign you up for a procedure that they do not disclose important information. This has happened to two of my family members. My husband went for a Lasik consult and was strongly encouraged to have a lens replacement procedure. He was so convinced that it would be life changing that he scheduled his surgery. Luckily we researched the procedure on our own to learn that he would no longer be able to focus within 17 inches unless he wore glasses and would have significant glare and halos at night and blurriness for months. He depends on his sight for work and could not risk blurriness for months. An important fact to consider. My adult son is physically active and after his consult, thought a PRK procedure would work best for him. The doctor said he would be able to function by the Monday after his Thursday procedure. It is now a week after surgery and his vision comes and goes. This is to be expected for another 2 weeks. This would have been important to know before surgery since he cannot see well enough to work. Frustrating! So do your research. Understand how long it will take to recover. read more

Hoopes Vision is awful not only in the way they do their procedures, but also in customer service. My mom got lasik eye surgery at Hoopes Vision. They made an error in the surgery and permanently damaged her pupil with no explanation or accountability except for stating they made a mistake in the procedure that was not by chance, but rather by complete human error. When we went in to inquire and asked several questions, as we had the right to, the doctors and nurses laughed at our concern after admitting they had made a mistake (no joke). After several appointments go check on her eye, a doctor came in to check on her and said he was writing a research paper on my mom's pupil condition that they had caused, stating that he was taking personal data/photos/other info and passing it on to other doctors around the world WITHOUT her permission and simply came in the room to collect more data. When we stated that they were violating HIPAA laws on using my mom as a research participant without her consent, they quickly tried to change the topic. I will hopefully be taking action against Hoopes Vision but in the meantime recommend to everyone: DO NOT GO TO HOOPES VISION. read more

NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY. I'm 3 1/2 months post procedure. I bought all their expensive eye drops as directed and took them every hour for three months as directed, as annoying as that was. My eyes are still very dry in the morning. They are suppose to be back to normal in 2-3 months. Before the surgery I never had dry eyes, they were very healthy in that sense. There are places that are 3x cheaper than Hoopes, with just as good, if not better, results. My brother went to a cheaper place and has no problems with dry eyes or night halos. He's also had 20/15 vision for 7 years now. His eyes were much worse to start off with than mine too. I now barely have 20/20 vision. I would've liked to get 20/15 like my brother and not have dry eyes. That's what I paid $4,000 for, but that's not what I got. Oh yea also the doctors at Hoopes are very arrogant and not personal at all. read more

I had LASIK about 4 months ago and have been very pleased with the outcome. I decided to have eye surgery for many reasons but one of top was that contact lenses had really begun to hurt my eyes. Now my eyes are white, comfortable, and I can see very clearly without correction. I am amazed by my vision every day! Hoopes Vision is a top notch facility. The assistants and doctors that helped prepare me for LASIK were competent and friendly. On the day of surgery the staff helped put me at ease and the surgeon was terrific. I was amazed to have better than 20/20 vision the very next day. I was also impressed to have very minimal discomfort/pressure during surgery and the recovery process was easier than I anticipated (10,000x better than contacts)! I went in for Lasik consult completely ready to make the commitment. However, the entire time I felt uncomfortable there. The gentleman who first ran my tests barely said two words to me and just kept telling me where to go next, with several other people around like herding cattle. Then when I finally got to meet with a doctor, NOT one of the surgeons, he was the most unhelpful man. I needed guidance, and I got shoulder shrugs and was essentially being pushed away from getting the procedure I was more than ready to hand my money over for. Then, once I met with the woman who discusses costs and books the procedures she seemed literally mortified and ran out of the room to confront the doctor I met with and inquire about why he was this way with me because essentially, she knew she had lost a $4,000 sale. Philip Hoopes Jr. Actually said, "Well, my older brother's eye is ruined too" After my enhancement surgery dr Hoopes said "well we will put a contact lens over it" I was in excruciating pain. At my follow up appt he told me he had never seen an eye react this way. Then he quickly reminded me he couldn't do more than set the machine to the right settings which he had. When I complained of dry eyes I was patronized and told it is just the furnace blowing dry air. I tried to go a few times for follow up care and usually was put in rooms and left to waiit, having appointments that lasted over two hours. I wasn't given any kindness or understanding at, not even given a sample of eye drops for my discomfort. When I went back to my opthomologist he said " Wow, your eye is parched and dry all the way to the back. This is neglect. I don't imagine you trust Dr Hoopes. Let me refer you to a very good corneal specialist to take care of these problems." My experience with Hoopes has been very life altering. I opted for mono vision so I wouldn't have to wear reading glasses. Now my "bad eye" is actually much clearer than my "good eye" with horrible astigmatism I never had before. I have chronic dry eye that requires surgically placed tear duct plugs to help my eyes retain some moisture, using expensive restasis drops. I also have horrible light sensitivity that makes me squint, (at my son's outdoor wedding, we can't find one picture wher you can see the color of my eyes, just slits). I can't wear contacts because my eyes are so dry. I have to wear glasses all the time. Their sales pitch is "throw your glasses away" instead I threw allot of money in a rat's hole and was treated with no respect. I have to pay to have these plugs surgically replaced periodically. Go to someone else who has some bedside manner and some scruples. read more

The staff was extremely knowledgeable, confident, and experienced. I felt that I got personalized care at Hoopes after coming to them for a second opinion on my LASIK done elsewhere. I wish I'd gone to Hoopes first and had my procedure done there. My doctors at the clinic I went to completely scared me that my vision (which is not even close to 20/20 after LASIK) was due to wrinkles on my corneas and not fixable with glasses/contacts. They didn't even check me for residual nearsightedness. The opthamologist at Hoopes was able to quickly figure this out. Lol I need glasses not more eye surgery. The cornea specialist (which I was scheduled to see) looked at my eyes for about 30 seconds, was completely bored by my case, and I've never been so relieved in my life! My doctor at the bad clinic seriously told me at my last visit "I see wrinkles. Your vision still isn't getting better. I'm not saying panic but..." What kind of doctor says this! I seriously thought I'd screwed up my vision for life by having LASIK. I'm glad I panicked and came to Hoopes. I will be happy to pay whatever bill they send me for putting my fears to rest. read more

My experience with Hoopes Vision has been nothing short of Top Notch! The service has been spectacular and timely and everyone I've met or interfaced with have been very polite, upbeat, attentive and are excellent in performing their roles for running a very smooth and efficient operation at their vision clinic (...it's like walking into a Lean Manufacturing Toyota Production Facilitiy...for my fellow geeks). All my questions have been answered thoroughly with terminology even I can understand. Good to know when your eyes are going under the laser. I was able to demonstrate better than perfect distance vision at my 30-day checkup (good bye glasses!!!). I had the PRK surgery in December 2012 and it was great. The cost was fair, the surgery itself was easy and everything went smoothly. Their new building is nice and their staff is as courteous and helpful as there is. There's always someone at the front door to greet you and help point you in the right direction. The wait is never more than a couple of minutes unlike most doctor's offices. They even have cookies in the waiting room. I went in for a follow up visit recently and even though I was supposed to be charged because it was a year after my surgery, they didn't charge me because of a previous appointment that I had missed that was before the 12 month deadline. Other places might give you a better deal, but if you want the best care from the friendliest staff there is, nobody beats Hoopes. read more

I'm sure their procedures are A++. They do know what they are doing, but when I went there a few years ago to see if I wanted lasik there, I quickly realized I was the center of a big "sales pitch." I hated the feeling I was being up-sold. Why do they have to show you 7 lasers and take two hours of your time? It just felt like I was at a car dealership. They DO charge more than other places. Try Utah Eye Center or Davis Vision Center. I ended up going to Utah Eye Center in Ogden. It was normal, and felt like a medical office instead of a car dealership. Hoopes just needs to calm it down and focus on the medicine instead of the money. read more

My husband had cataracts removed from both of his eyes 4 years ago. He was extremely nervous going in, but amazed when he came out. 10 mins. in all for one eye, rapid recovery and hardly any issues afterwards. Hoopes is a great place as are their doctors & staff. Very disappointed. My oldest son received Lasik in 2009. His vision is back to the way it was before Lasik. I called to see what they can do and they said he can pay another $150 for a consultation and possibly get an enhancement for quite a bit more money. He is only 32.
