Wanted a quick afternoon lunch between meetings. Found this place and thought sure why not. Walked in and two girls behind the counter and only one other customer. Stood at counter ready to place order when someone else walked in right past me and placed order. People behind the counter messed it up twice. Now my turn ( I thought ) stood there another minute while they talked with other customer about football. Normally I would join in but they turned attention to their phones to look information up. Finally got to order. 9 minutes later my food hits the counter. Catfish and shrimp. Catfish was under cooked and shrimp were over cooked and rubbery. Add to that a mound of greasy fries and needless to say I can't wait for dinner. Food is mediocre and staff are pathetic. Would never go back. read more

I would u of give this place 0 stars if I could. I ordered door dash tonight through this restaurant. I got the chicken tenders with fries and i added an extra side of onion rings for 4$. I did not receive my fries and my chicken came with some seasoning on it that I am allergic to. I called and they called me an "idiot" when I told them that I couldn't ask for special requests because door dash would not allow it(as seen in the picture below). They also disagreed when I told them that it comes with fries and I added onion rings for extra(picture below). I'm a college student who hasn't eaten all day because I have been so busy with class this place is never getting my service again. Major disappointment!! I was in plantation recently and if you read my review at the hook's there.. I had 5 star oysters.. Smelled Amazing, HUGE, not overcooked, so fresh, and just the best I've ever had! Well, that was my first Hook's experience, so I came to the Deerfield location which is closer to me and ordered them to go again. I had been craving those amazing oysters... Well, I kind of knew immediately they weren't going to be as good from the smell. There was a huge difference in the smell from the plantation ones. I got home, opened my to go box and could not believe this was the same order from a same-named place!! I am including a side by side photo for you to see yourself! They were MUCH smaller, overcooked, and fishy. Won't be ordering them again unless I'm in plantation... Wow, so disappointed.. Even the desserts looked fresher in plantation!! The only thing better about Deerfield was the service was much friendlier than plantation (thus 2 stars instead of 1), but that can't make up for bad food.. I would maybe give them ONE more try for fish or conch???? But not more oysters at this location for me.. I'll be driving to the sunrise location!!!! read more

My dad had been meaning to bring me here for years, it seems. We finally got around to trying it out, and even though the place looked a bit seedy, I decided to keep an open mind. Two friendly guys greeted us as we walked in, and they were patient with us and answered our questions. My dad ordered the tilapia, while I ordered the perch. Now, I'm kind-of weird with seafood. I only like white, flaky fish that doesn't taste too... well... fishy. I also need to DROWN it in lemon juice. Thankfully these guys didn't bat an eye and gave us plenty of juice packets (and I used ALL of them). The food is cooked to order, so we sat in the tiny dining room and watched some football until our meal was ready. I had asked for hush puppies instead of fries, but they gave me both anyway. The hush puppies were quite good... I was just sad I only got two small ones. After trying both dishes, we determined that we liked the breading on the perch more, but we liked the tilapia itself better. I'm glad we tried it out, and I would come back again. But because the neighborhood isn't the greatest, I wouldn't come here alone. read more

Literally the best seafood/chicken spot in south Florida. Conch is amazing but don't sleep on the crab cakes or calamari. The wings are also amazing with their Buffalo sauce along with their chicken tenders which you can get tossed in Buffalo. Their seasoning which they put on everything including their fries is so good. Also don't sleep on their homemade lemonade or their desserts all very good. read more

First and only time. Greasy bag, give 1 packet of ketchup and it had leaked hot sauce all over it. Fried shrimp tasted fishy, probably cuz they use some nasty frozen fish and keep same oil. I was not necessarily put off by the location and exterior of the building. Yes, it is sketchy but it's about the food inside, right? Well, WRONG! I went through the drive-through and despite having only one car ahead of me, it took close to fifteen minutes to get the food. I live about ten minutes away and by the time I got there, everything was still hot. Okay, here is where the disappointment kicks in: I ordered two Number Three combos with red snapper and shrimp, extra fries, no coleslaw. What I was expecting was a WHOLE fried fish where it still looks like a fish. What I got in each box were two snapper fillets on sliced white bread. The only saving grace were the shrimp--they were crisp and tasty. Unfortunately the snapper had absolutely no flavor! The pieces were moist but tasted like nothing. There was no hope even with the provided tarter sauce packet or buffalo sauce (WHY?!) To add insult to injury, the fries were limp and also tasteless/un-seasoned. Maybe I had to specify I wanted whole fried fish but I don't think it would have helped seeing as how the food was bland regardless. I spent almost thirty dollars on food I half ate. I ended up peeling off the fried skin from the fish and feeding it to my dogs. Waste of money, time, and appetite! read more

Two firsts for me today. Tried Postmates for the first time and it was my first time receiving delivery from Hook. I have been through the drive thru many many times over the years. But what I feared came true. Some restaurants will give you less than their best because you aren't there to see your meal right away. I got the number 3 Snapper combo and a side of oysters. The fries were horrible AND who gives their customer the ends of the bread. I'd rather you left it out and said you ran out of bread. Throwing in the end is like saying I could give a damn what you think. Other than that the delivery was quick and the transaction went smoothly. Having read the good reviews, I went to check it out. Must be under new ownership. I wasn't looking for fancy; but, the place was dirty. With flies, tables not wiped, and the bathroom was unbearable. They were understaffed, made obvious when I said to the guy trying to take orders from people in line and on the phone at the same time, hey my order is sitting behind you getting cold and there are flies buzzing around it. He said "You can see there's only two of us". When we finally got our food we sat down only to find there were several items missing. When I asked about the missing items, his reply was "How's the food?" I repeated "we're missing a few items" to which he again said "how's the food?" I could go on; but, it's pointless. Excellent choice for fried shrimp in the area. They have the REAL jumbo shrimp here (not what Publix tries to pass off as jumbo). You order this from one of the places down by the ocean, and you will be charged twice as much for half of what you get. They have seating, but I really recommend this as a pick up, and take home. After a rather unsatisfying seafood meal at another restaurant, I went driving around to see whatelse was open. This gawdy, campy, "this store as seen 10 owners in the last 10 years" looking place catches my eye....so in I went. To my surprise, this hot dog looking establishment had a wide variety of different fish....swordfish, crabcakes, snapper, etc....and CONCH!. Conch?....here???? So away I ordered..... 1. Conch cerviche salad: This was a cold mixture of cruchy veggies like celery and carrots, tomatoes, and conch pieces marinated in a lemon juice and spices. To my surprise, this was refreshing and quite tasty. At $4 for a half pint serving, this was a steal for conch. 2. Fried swordfish: The fish was done perfectly...moist and not overcooked. The breading was bland and flour like. They need to season the breading. 3. Corn fritters: Good and crunchy. Tasted like how I expect fritters to taste in the South. OVERALL: The portions were generous. Based on the breading I would have given this place 3 stars....but the prices and assortment of available fish "whole fried snapper" and conch dishes including fried conch and conch fritters which I did not sample...come'on...I can't eat THAT much....pulls this place up to 4 stars. A better seasoned breading on the fried foods could have tempted me to give this place 5 stars based on value. read more

THE WORST costumer service ever!!! Will never order from this place again. Took 2 hours to get my food from door dash. When I called to see why it was taking long they said that they gave my order to door dash 30 mins ago. Meanwhile I'm on the phone with my dasher who had been waiting there and never got the order. When I tried to explain that to the rude woman she said she has nothing to do with it and if I had a problem to take it to door dash. So I did and not only did they reorder the food but when I got the food it was the WORST. some of the chicken wasn't even cooked. I placed an order on Postmates for pick-up. I ordered a large gizzards dinner. Which comes with fries. I also ordered fried okra as an extra side for $2.99. When I arrived to pick up my order, I checked it and noticed there where no fries, which comes with the dinner. I alerted the cashier, a female, to the mistake. I showed her my Postmates receipt. She proceeded to tell me my Postmates receipt was wrong and refused to give me the fries that came with the dinner. She also had the audacity to have an attitude. I will never give them my business again. It was just FRIES, but she refused to make things right with the customer. It's not like I was asking for anything I hadn't already paid for. Obviously Hook's doesn't value it's customers. It's really getting old how these people come into our black neighborhoods and take us for granted, all while we're supporting their lively hoods.
