The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but it's easy to find, has plenty of seating and even offers a drive through. And then there's the reason we are here: The food. As a BBQ lover, I was anxious to try Alabama bbq. I picked this place based on the yelp reviews and it didn't disappoint. We both had the ribs & pulled pork combo plates with fries and baked beans. Ribs were good but not jaw dropping, pulled pork was good. The sauce was really good! Skip the beans - they taste like cheap store brand baked beans with a little chopped pork thrown in. Pound cake slice was a nice treat. It was a lot of food - had leftovers for later. From all the good reviews and the steady flow of people in/out of there, you'd think they could upgrade to plates and real silverware. We stopped here on our way home from the beach. We were so impressed at the bbq! It was so tender and no gross fatty pieces. The sauce was delicious and so was the ranch dressing for our fries. My two year old was with us and he was comfortable walking around, waving, high fiving everyone, just like he does in our small town at home. I live bbq. From Carolina to Tennessee to Alabama and ga. Hooks bbq meat is top notch and Smokey. Their pound cake delicious and prices semi resonance for the amount of food you get. They lose one whole star for their lack or sauce selection. The hot sauce based sauce is a reminder from Byrons smokehouse In auburn. Both smokehouses would be better suited to add just one thick hickory catchup based sauce. Other than that the atmosphere and food is worth a stop if you are in the area. 75% of people I've talked to said the one in enterprise is no good. So take that for what you will. read more

Found this highly recommended on Yelp and had to stop!! The smell just walking in made my mouth water!! We are from Kansas City and love our BBQ but this place impressed with their Pork sandwiches and perfectly golden fries. The Sauce is Amazing, it's a vinegar based sauce that you just can't stop. Every time I visit my son at the university, I make a stop and grab a combo! I don't think I've ever had a disappointing experience. Just ask locals! Yes... The pulled pork was great and all of the BBQ sauce that they had tasted amazing. It is really good for kids and there is almost no smokey smell in the restaurant which makes it much better. Alabama BBQ at it's finest. Thus far I have only had their pork sandwiches and a side of their Camp Stew. My first visit included my, then 8 year old grand daughter who is a picky eater, she devoured the pork without blinking an eye. Us adults did the same and our's had their hot, or their spicy sauce. The meat was tender and delicious and the sauce was perfect. The camp stew reminded me of my first introduction to this delicacy years ago while visiting the Troy area. My sister was attending Troy State and our family came to visit. While visiting we dined at a BBQ that was opened up by some area Grandmothers in a home converted into a restaurant. The stew at that time was so good to me as a kid, that I licked my empty bowl clean. We came to Troy for a wedding and at the rehearsal dinner they had BBQ from Hooks. The pulled pork was perfect. The rice and beans were great! They stuff you fill of ribs and pork and some tantalizingly good beans that are jazzed up with pork cracklings and things. Then once you are done and about as full as a beached whale outside a sardine factory they make you eat a free, gratis, no charge, you ain't whistling Dixie bonafide delicious piece of pound cake better'n yo mama ever made fit for the garden club social. Ribs were tender, very meaty, not a shiner in a rack. They had just a slight pull off the bone and a well rubbed glaze. Pork was generously served with a good outside bark and thick smoke ring. Solid BBQ place. I have been to a lot and this one is good. Solid smoke on the meat I have had ribs and pulled pork. The pork is some of the best I have had. I also had their beans and a plain baked potato. It was all solid. They are super friendly at least when I have been and quick to get you your food. The one thing I like is they put everything in to go containers. So if you have leftovers you can bolt. read more

Had the opportunity to stop here for a late lunch while traveling through Alabama. My wife opted for the pork plate with baked beans and potato salad and I opted fro the pork sandwich with cole slaw and potato salad. everything tasted great. The potato salad was very similar to what my wife makes so it was a very pleasant surprise. The pork had a good smoked flavor and the two options for sauce were good. My wife choose the mild and I chose the hot, both had a very good taste that complimented the meat just right. No other barbecue in Troy comes close! Hook's is incredible, and some of the best barbecue I've ever had in a restaurant. The staff is always friendly, and composed mostly of college students from Troy University. Prices are fair, and the barbecue selections are varied. Whether you choose a BBQ plate, BBQ sandwich, or BBQ Potato (my personal favorite) you can't really go wrong. Their rice, which comes as a side with plates and sandwiches is very good, and the plates even come with a slice of homemade-style pound cake! The ribs are also very good, and served in HEAPING portions. You can get up to a pound. TIP: Order the sauce on the side (your choice of hot or mild) and the meat always seems a little fresher. This is particularly true of the ribs, and who doesn't want to control their sauce flow? read more

Some friends and I pulled over at a boiled peanut stand near Troy where the peanut boiler was eating some Hook's BBQ. It smelled and looked so good that we had to stop a few miles up the road to try it for ourselves. I think it is a good rule of thumb to get advice from boiled peanut makers. I got the small pulled pork plate which comes with pulled pork (pre-sauced), rice, pound cake, bread, and two side for about $7. Crazy good deal. The meat itself was really flavorful. The sauce was a nice addition, but the meat hardly needed it. For the sauce you choose between mild and hot. I got potato salad and beans as my two sides. The other options were more rice, crinkle fries, and slaw. The potato salad had an interesting flavor to it. Everyone likes their potato salad differently though and I prefer larger potatoes and more mustard than Hook's version. The beans were great and the home-made pound cake was just the cherry on top of a great lunch. The service is quick and the staff are as friendly as can be. A menu item that I would be interested to try is the BBQ potato. I noticed that several people had ordered them so they must be good. Judging by the crowd here on a Saturday at 2pm, Hook's is a popular local stop. Recommend if you are in or traveling around the area. read more

Everything they have is great. The ribs fall of the bone. The pulled pork is tender but not full of chunks of fat. The only down side is their selection is slim. No brisket and no mac and cheese. Normally this would mean I wouldn't bother going, but since its the only place in town I tried it and I am glad I did. I've been back twice and I'll keep going. read more
