Dined at Hook's for lunch many times over the years. Consistent quality and service. The HOT BBQ sauce is not for sissies but IS to die for if you like it hot! Picked up a couple meals at the Drive-Thru last evening, just too hot in Troy to fire up our kitchen! Wife ordered Rib Plate (comes with 2 sides, bread and cake), I opted for the Chicken sandwich platter with two sides. The thoughtful gal at the window advised they add 3% for CC now, thankfully I had enough cash.. a rare thing! Just a drive around the building and about a 6 minute wait and we feasted!! I've never tried the ribs but wife had plenty to share,,,, very good; with the hot sauce of course. Smoky and tender! Sides are southern sides... lotsa mayo and milk in that slaw and mayo in the 'tater salad! Ambiance? OK for a BBQ Joint but not a place for private conversation!

I stopped in for what I thought was going to be a great BBQ meal. It was about 2:30 PM on a rainy Tuesday afternoon. After being seated for a few minutes, I discovered that you order from the counter and your food is subsequently delivered to your table. I figured this out after being ignored by the staff and ultimately asking for someone to take my order. I went to the counter and ordered the pulled pork, cole slaw, and baked beans. I was asked for my preference of mild or hot BBQ sauce. I chose the hot. I assumed the BBQ sauce would be served on the side so the customer could add it to satisfy their individual taste. The meal was delivered to the table in pretty short order in a styrofoam to-go box. I told the waitress I was dining in and was informed that it didn't matter, that's the only way they served their food. Okay, no big deal. I opened the to-go box and found a surprise. There was a huge piece of pound cake right on the top. There was a wax paper barrier between the cake, bread, and and the meal, On removing the wax paper, I saw what appeared to be a great meal. I tried the cole slaw first. It was like eating sugar straight out of a bowl. One bite was wall it took. It was easy to sweet. Okay, the baked beans had to be good. Wrong. While not awful, they were very bland, straight-out-of-the-can baked beans. Nothing added to spruce them up at all. That's okay. Not what I expected from a BBQ restaurant, but they were edible. Then the meat. It was saturated in BBQ sauce. I believe the meat would have been much better had the sauce been served on the side. I tried a few bites of the meat and finally just stopped. It was drenched in so much BBQ sauce that I couldn't taste the meat. I digress. I am a carnivore. I can make a meal out of meat alone. I consider sides to be unnecessary elements of a meal to enhance the requirements for what the USDA considers to be a square meal. Back to the pound cake. The pound cake was quite possibly one of the best I have ever tasted. It appeared to be homemade and it was fantastic. As far the overall meal is concerned, the servings were ample and would satisfy the heartiest af appetites. The rest, as stated above, left a lot to be desired. That pretty well sums up my experience at Hooks BBQ. I'll probably try another place next time.

Great dinner at Hooks BBQ. Had the chicken, ribs beans, potato salad combo and it was good. Service was fast and told the work crew to make a stop when in town. The sauce was hot, ribs were cooked perfect and the chicken was spot on the complimentary sponge cake was good too. Thank y'all Hooks BBQ.

Great BBQ! Good smoke with lots of flavor. Had the hot sauce, which is not too hot, but will give you a little brow sweat. Very flavorful. Dirty rice is well done with Cajun flavors and Cole slaw is a combination of sweet and vinegary. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great place!

    Just wonderful bbq!

I have never been to a chick fil a of this quality before. We stopped by this location en route…read morefrom a road trip and wanted something easy, light and quick- that was not the case. AMBIANCE: parking lot spaces are tight and limited. Inside, half of the facility is seating with a play area. It DOES NOT have self serve sauce/utensil area. SERVICE: not great. My cashier was not only very slow in taking my orders but had me repeat every item 2-3 times. I was ordering about 5 different items so as you can imagine, this took a very long time. Ex: me:"Can I please have 3 regular chicken sandwiches with 3 large fries?" 3 minutes later-- waiter: "so you want 3 sandwiches? What kind?" Me: "regular." Waiter: "with combo/without?" Me: "without". Waiter: "did you want fries?" This kind of interaction lasted for all 5 items (3 chicken sandwiches, 3 large fries, 1 market salad with 2 zesty apple cider sauces, 12 piece nugget, 2 large waters. I made sure that the order was confirmed. Guess what order came out.... - Not 3 but 1 chicken sandwich. - not 3 large fries but 1 large fry + 2 small fries - not 12 piece nugget but 6 piece nugget - not Salad + 2 sauces but FIVE sauces. I checked the receipt order and the cashier had FINALLY gotten order correct so I do not know where the mixup was. The workers tried to "fix" this by giving us 2 more medium fries and a random 6 piece nugget + 3 chicken strips. Very very odd encounter.

Food: Tea served with less than a scoop of ice. "Side of…read morepickles" is a cup with two extra pickles and an attitude. You have to BEG for a decent amount of condiments. Service: In restroom, a dear old lady walks in and tells an employee she is basically blind and needs help finding the toilet stall. Employee provided her ZERO help. I mean, this poor little lady couldn't see the stall which was directly in front of her and the employee pretended she couldn't even hear her asking for help. Mismanagement is an understatement.
