On our way to Birmingham and hungry, we stopped at this restaurant with the parking lot full of cars - one of our ways to guide us to a good restaurant. The menu is simple and limited, but perfect for a homy kind of meal. They offer 1 choice of meat and 2 sides or 1 and 3 sides, and also about 5 choices of specials of the day plus about 4 choices of deserts - we planned for the apple cobbler, but no room in our stomach, unfortunately. Prices are very good, portions were huge. My husband chose chicken fingers and said he never had such a tender chicken. I had the fried shrimp, also very tender inside and crispy outside. The picture I shared was "after" I was finished, so generous the portion is. The ambience is simple but very nice. There are about 3 rooms style; we set in the booth in the front (nice) on the left side, in front of it there's s room with tables, and behind a nicer room with great light, which we will try next time. All customers seem to be returned clients, the happening of the town I guess, very warm and friendly as well as the staff. If you are on the road, great place to stop. Our cross country road trip is close to being done. We came to Troy for the week to visit my husbands family and of course we had to visit as many friends and family as possible. For one of our lunches we met my husbands former coach and family and he had suggested we meet at sisters. Now this is a local place for sure. They have their meats, sides, a few baskets, salads and kids options. Service here for our table of 11 was amazing- attentive, quick and sweet. Now once my husbands coach explained the menu we picked our meal. Hubby went with the salmon croquettes and two sides, my son went with the chicken tender and fries and my daughter got a side of Mac and cheese. For my lunch I decided to go with the 4 side platter consisting of Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes with gravy, cabbage and beans. The menu is limited but simple and priced well. My family enjoys eating lunch here mostly for the fried shrimp and chicken. I had the salmon croquettes which were basically tuna from a canned and then shaped into a crab cake and fried, very dry but was still okay with tartar sauce. The waitresses were very attentive and made sure we had everything and checked in frequently. We usually dine in the back room but it was closed today for some reason. We'd been wanting to eat at Sister's Restaurant in Troy for years and being from out of the area never found it open until the stars aligned today. They were an extreme disappointment! You could have exactly the same quality food from Wal-Mart Great Value canned goods at home but do a better job! They have no cooks there-only can openers! The food was bland, the only thing country was the location, not the food. I asked local friends after we left- they said the food/dining style has plunged in recent years, not like before by any means. The 1 star was for the food. The cooks take care not to over-salt, and they don't over do the dishes, which some Southern cuisine places do to mask inferior quality ingredients. Saw a sign for this place while traveling to the beach and decided to stop for lunch. It turned out to be a great choice! The parking lot was crowded but our group of 4 was seated immediately. The buffet was filled with southern delights. Chicken and dumplings, turnip greens, mac and cheese, fried and baked chicken, hamburger steak, ham, green bean casserole, and more. The service was great. All of the food taste great. There are several dessert options but the favs among my group were the bread pudding, the peach cobbler and the strawberry shortcake (which I missed out on). We had lunch here. I got the vegetable plate and was not disappointed. One in our party had the fried chicken livers. He let me have one and they were good; hot and crispy. It was very busy so there was a little wait time between placing our orders and receiving our food, but it wasn't too long. Especially if you're lucky enough to catch their buffet on Thursday, Friday, or Sunday for lunch. This isn't your Golden Corral or Ryan's. The only way you can get better southern home cooking is if you were at your grandmas house. They treat you like family here too, of course, with that southern charm. They've got chicken, ham, beef, and any southern vegetable/vegetable casserole you want. And their banana pudding...famous! Coming here gives you the true Southern experience, so don't be offended if you get called ma'am or sir, that's just Southern respect. We were a little concerned that the wait would be long because there were so many cars in the parking lot, but were seated in less than 10 minutes. It was Friday so we got to experience the all you can eat buffet. The line got a lot longer right after we got in at 11:30, but still seemed to move quickly. Thanks goodness that my client took us here for lunch. Traveling the nation I find it very hard to find good home cooking. If your looking for a meal like your grandmother used to serve up this is the place. Great meatloaf (no peppers in it), fried chicken, salmon croquets and a multitude of other main items. Fresh vegetable, too numerous to list, but everything you would expect to find in a Southern garden. I even missed out on the salad bar as I went back for seconds of the fresh veggies. Banana pudding with the vanilla waivers in it like you remember growing up! Fresh iced tea and everyone was friendly and sincere when waiting on you or helping with your order. We arrived at Sisters for a buffet on a Friday around 1:45 p.m. and it was standing room only which we expected it to be directly after graduation. After waiting for nearly 30 minutes we were able to be seated. All of the hostesses were really nice and taking care of what we needed. However around 2:15 p.m. we were still waiting on the buffet to be restocked. We asked a waitress when would they be bringing more food for us to eat and she said "We close at 2." We were puzzled as although we were there before closing they allowed us to be seated. WARNING: GET THERE ABOUT 2 HOURS BEFORE CLOSING OR YOU WILL MOST LIKELY WILL NOT HAVE THE FRESHEST FOODS. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AT 2:00 P.M.....ALLOW YOU TO COME IN BUT YOU WILL NOT HAVE ALL FOODS AVAILABLE TO YOU. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE MANAGER/OWNER IS RUDE AND WILL NOT LISTEN TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY NOR WILL SHE TRY TO MAKE IT RIGHT. However, the food we managed to eat was only chicken fingers, some hard bread and old fried string beans. The food had been sitting out for a while and was picked over and the only thing available were straps and empty trays. They brought out some dressing and more chicken fingers but that was it. What we managed to eat was probably good had it been fresh. When we went to pay, we started to talk to the cashier. She was extremely rude and kept trying to out talk me and not listen and kept saying, "All I can give you is a $1 off." but we never asked for a discount. When I asked for the manager, she looked over at the manager and said, "She's eating right now." Then she rolled her eyes and abruptly went and said something to the manager. The manager jumped up from her plate and huffed over to us and said, "All I can give you is a $1 off." Still again, we never asked for a discount and we only wanted to know the policy on the buffet not being available and having to pay full price. But the manager/owner just turned and walked away. It was the rudest experience in Troy, AL but we were not surprised based on how she treated us and how her staff treated us and considering we were in the deep country confederate flagged south. The ladies at the Alabama Welcome Center suggested this restaurant. Considering it is 90 miles from the welcome center, we figured it MUST be great. Oh how right they were. We happened to go on a Thursday during their lunch buffet. Everything was incredibly delicious as well as fresh. Wonderful hot desserts like peach cobbler and banana pudding (which they are known for and with good reason, it was divine). Tea & coffee are included in the price of $10! $10??? Are you kidding me? This place is a buffet with southern food. Salad bar is a little lacking, and they do a poor job of cutting up the salad fixings at times, but the Banana pudding makes up for it. When I see a restaurant that claims to be a Southern Cooking restaurant I expect SOME fried food but not fried everything... and I also expect fresh country vegetables not canned or Frozen as was evident here. Although, it was apparently seafood buffet night, the reviews led me to believe that there would be some healthy choices available.... not so. The place was clean enough and the staff pleasant enough, however it was quite expensive for the quality of the food and the desserts were almost unrecognizable. I saw the reviews on this restaurant while driving south from Nashville. It was Friday night and, at Sisters, that means it's seafood buffet night. It is an all-you-can-eat buffet which always makes me feel uncomfortable because I feel, as a relatively small eater, that I am there to subsidize the gluttons. So, to the food. It's almost all deep fried. The deep fried fish and chicken (seafood, right?) was nice. The onion rings..meh..the deep fried oysters and clams were nice, the french fries were not so good. There was salad and it was tired and tasteless, and lacked variety. The restaurant does not serve alcohol but does make good iced tea. Desert was included in the price and consisted of the worst looking banana pudding I have seen in a long time. The bread pudding, similarly, looked awful. The peach cobbler also didn't inspire me. For two fairly small portions, and two glasses of iced tea, we forked over $45 + tip. It was poor value for money. However the venue was nice and the servers were pleasant. All in all this is a place which would well suit someone who is very hungry and who loves deep fried food. It is what, in Australia, we would call a 'chew-n-spew'...Here, I guess you call it a 'greasy spoon'. It is not a place I would recommend.
