Great chips and salsa, solid inexpensive margaritas. But the entree we had was definitely the highlight. Grilled chicken and shrimp served with a cheese sauce. Seasoned and charred on the grill perfectly. Highly recommend. read more

The food was tasty, the waiter was very friendly, and the restaurant had a very nice decor. I shared the Steak Nachos Al Carbon with my uncle and it had a nice temperature to the food, I think it was a fair serving as well. However, the only problem I ran into was that there was a small hair on the bottom of my plate, thankfully towards the side of the plate so it wasn't too big of a deal to me. I would still recommend this to someone who's going through Alabama looking for a place to stop and eat. read more

Upon arriving at Monarcas, we were amidst a shower. We were welcomed with warm smiles and carpet(I'm a sucker for carpet). The ambiance of the restaurant was very nice, a perfect mixture of America's Wild South and Mexican Culture. I ordered the "Hot Chicken Wings," At first, I figured that it may not actually be hot, as in spicy but they have a very nice in-borne seasoning, not too spicy. Overall a pretty good "hole in the wall" restaurant. Their chips and salsa were exceptional. read more

Fresh food, attentive staff, very clean inside - restaurant and bathrooms. We were very pleased and enjoyed everything

Best food in town ! Hot and fast and very respectful service I 100% recommend this place !!

Monarch's is a family oriented restaurant. The service is adequate. When we asked for extra salsa the server brought us tiny plastic containers. The food was fair. I ordered the street tacos with steak. The steak was more like tough ground beef with very little flavor. Last after paying cash the cashier said there was no receipt for customers paying cash . read more

We stopped here on our way home from the beach yesterday and had lunch and stretched our legs. That was unfortunate. When we walked in, I noticed the dingy interior. It looks vaguely dirty and smells a little musty, underneath the sizzling fajita smell. A visit to the bathroom confirmed my gut feeling that this was not a great place. One stall was clogged with, well, you can guess. There is no diaper changing station so there was a young mother in there changing her son's poopy diaper on the sink counter. Filthy. The chips and salsa were good, as was the cheese dip. The rest of our food was horrible. I got the chicken quesadilla and it tasted like chicken cooked in a crock pot with Old El Paso taco seasoning...and they didn't use the whole packet. I make better at my home on weeknights. I ate one wedge and gave up. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. read more

Monarcas Mexican Restaurant - Chicken Quesadilla. Yuck. - Mexican Near Me - Troy, Alabama

Stopped in for lunch because the place looked busy. Wow! I can see why. Salsa was fantastic. Just enough heat. My order came out super fast. The Chimichanga was so good. Probably the best I've ever had and that's saying something, since it is basically my go-to when I eat Mexican. The guacamole and sides were fresh and delicious. Portion was just right and the price can't be beat. Deja was friendly, knowledgeable and kept my big ol' tea glass full. She even hooked me up with a go cup for the road. Don't pass this one by. I know I'll definitely be back. read more

Food is great. Service not as good as in past. The restaurant in Troy al drop some when open a new place in Brundidge Al. The crowd of people is off some. Need to put more work into the Troy location. Build it up again. But I still enjoy this restaurant. read more

Ordinary food and very slow service. I was also lied to by my waitress when I requested a Margarita. She said no alcohol could be served until after 1 PM. In going on line found Troy law said after 12PM. Probably the first time in 20 years I was told no margaritas. I will not be going back as the food was only average and I don't appreciate being lied to. read more

WOW!!! So Great! We were passing through town while we traveled back home from Florida and a patron while we got gas recommended Monarcas. He said he ate there several times a week. What a fortune meeting...Monarcas is some of the Best Mexican food I've ever had! The steak quesadilla was Amazing! The meat and onions caramelized and the steak was so tender and flavorful! The margarita was wonderful as well and we hear they come in flavors....so if you're local something to check out! The service was warm and friendly and fast! read more

Maybe my standards for Mexican are a little different, but I did not find anything overwhelming about this place. I will say this, the margaritas were great and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Don't get me wrong, the food was not absolutely terrible, but it was sub-par compared to other Mexican places I have eaten at around the country. I had a plate that consisted of enchiladas, tamales, rice and beans. The rice was bland and the red sauce was really watery, which not only thinned it out consistency wise, but also thinned out the flavor. It was a mediocre tex-mex meal at its best. Just as the rating implies here, "Meh, I've experienced better". read more

food and service is awesome everytime! highly recommend this place! staff is very friendly everytime! read more

Great food, good service. Fantastic service. Best Mexican in Troy. I highly recommend this.

I ordered our food almost 30 minutes prior to picking up, was quoted 20. I get there and they don't even have my order, AT ALL.. I repeat the exact same order multiple times while the manager and server both stood there. Manager wrote down my order and took it to the kitchen. I wait an additional 10 minutes, just for them to fuck it up AGAIN. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and a beef burrito. Not complicated AT ALL. They might've gotten our order correct the second time had they not continued with an entire conversation, while asking me to repeat the order. I love monarcas, but that's absurd. It'll be awhile before we go back. read more

I am not entirely sure why people love this place. I am not local so I have no ties so to speak. I can only compare them to rodeo in town. 1st I walked in and had to wait 3 minutes to be seated. I was never acknowledged by the 2 people who passed me one on his way to check somone out. He could have just said be right with you. 2. I was given a table right next to the entrance. Above my head was all the menus on the rail. As I ate dinner people were hovering above me as they waited to be seated. There were 5 other tables that were all empty. 3. I ordered titos they don't have that. Got well instead it was fine. 4. Normally get chicken. I have been tying to eat healtheir. They are extremely limited on chicken options. I decided for chicken fajitas. They were very bland. Just really tasted of grease. The positives were there salsa is good and chips are fresher than rodeo but I will not come back. As I type this I have waited 5 minutes for my check. read more

I eat here nearly every week. The food is decent, and the staff is friendly; what more can you ask for? Oh yeah -- their cheese quesadillas are to die for. read more

Some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. This stuff has absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The red sauce was basically watered down tomato juice. It made my chili relleno, burrito & enchilada soggy and disgusting. I could forgive the lack of cleanliness and the overall dilapidation of the restaurant if the food was actually decent. But it was some of the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten, seriously Taco Bell is head and shoulders above this crap. read more

Is there a way to give this place -4 stars? If so please let me know because that is what kind of service my friends and I received upon visiting this establishment. When I asked to order a drink my sever said "nah" then turned and left. He ignored my friends and I at any request we asked (which was not much). We asked our sever for more chips and he turned and walked away. 15 minutes later he returned with some chips, but proceeded to DUMP them onto our table. Then he left like nothing had happened. By the time our food got to us it was lukewarm at best. The server made this experience one of the best if he was trying to make us never come back there again. When we finally got the checks my group of friends and I were thankful that we could leave. Safe to say if you want bad Mexican food and terrible service this is the place to go. read more

We were in town for a baseball tournament and hungry after a late game. Not much was open in this tiny town but luckily for us, this place was open. Service was quick and efficient, salsa was some of the best I've ever had! I had flank steak flautas - yum-o! The big kid have a steak monster burrito and said it hit the spot. $21 for 2 dinners including really good sweet tea. Great deal for really good food! read more

Absolutely the most mediocre Mexican food I have ever eaten. The restroom was filthy there was some on the floor in the women's restroom and wet toilet paper and paper towels everywhere. The garbage was over flowing. The waitress pointed at our beverage and motioned that we give it to her instead asking if we needed refills. Not a great experience but my belly is full. read more

The Carne Asada was excellent and the service was good. I plan on going back to try other menu items

The King Burrito is excellent if you are hungry and the chicken chimichanga is good also. Service is always good and there is never a wait. The chips and salsa are always good and fresh. Compared to other Mexican restaurants in this price range in the area such as Rodeo, El Palacio, or LA Bamba, Monarcas is 5 stars all day long B! read more

Yummy food the quesadilla and rice and beans is very good this place is a very yummy restaurant.

The food is not great. If you have experienced great Mexican food before this place will always disappoint. The beef sometimes tastes like potted beef. read more

Great restaurant! Food is reasonably priced and atmosphere is calm but festive. Come for lunch.

As good as it gets for authentic Mexican food in Troy, Alabama. I've had better but this will do. They have great drinks for good prices. The customer service is great as well. I would recommend the fajita quesadillas. read more

I found the exterior and interior of the restaurant grungy upon first glance. Yes, the building is slightly dilapidated, but it doesn't appear dirty or unsanitary. I was seated almost immediately, and from there on out, while the servers were a little awkward, the service was great. We received everything we asked for within a few minutes of ordering it. The chips and salsa were terrific, and while I little watery, the queso dip was above average too. I received my order of chicken enchiladas, and immediately realized that the presentation wasn't fantastic, but beyond appearances, the food was pretty good. This restaurant was nothing spectacular, but also maybe something you should try if you are in the area and feeling Mexican food. read more

Customer service was terrible, and they seemed a bit scared to be happy. Taco salad was cold and I was afraid to really touch bc of the attitude. Manarcas is really good in Luverne though. read more

Two of us ate lunch here yesterday (23 March 2018). Both enjoyed the food; service was good; everyone was courteous. Females bathroom (per my wife) was clean and trash-free. Some prior reviewers complained about the bathrooms-yes, they are dirty at times, and it would be great if they were in better condition/upgraded but, I have also seen them get trashed due to folks that eat here during Troy University games; folks passing thru on vacation etc, that don't care about hitting the trash can, and the usual slobs that may eat here (or anywhere else for that matter). Need to bring it to mgrs. attn when see this in their bathrooms. Also-some of the servers do not speak English very well (or at all), and have been embarrassed by their lack of it. So I never take that alone as an insult. If I was a non-Spanish speaker visiting Mexico, I may just point at something too (as a customer) if not in a establishment that caters to English speakers. read more

Great home made salsa and chips. Wonderful vegetarian friendly food and great portions.

We have eaten here for 17 or more years. Have always had good service. Every once in a blue moon we have a bad time but, its very rare

Great selections on the menu! Also, the chips and salsa at this place are sooo good. I judge most mexican restaurants on that from the start and they pass. I ordered the combination enchiladas, which I thought was three enchilada because the menu but turns out it's four. The beef and chicken in them are incredibly seasoned and I'm beyond satisfied. The cheese enchilada and the bean enchilada are lack luster and disappointing, especially cause the cheese one was cold :(. Another upside is the medium marg is huge for the price. Overall happy! read more

Best Mexican in Troy! I love nachos Monarchos and the queso is yummy.

Stopped in today and ordered cheese dip to start. It was very thin, like water. We asked if they could make it a little thicker and the waiter said no, so we sent it back. My husband ordered steak nachos, and they were average, but acceptable. I ordered taco salad, and it was disgusting. It was again, watery and had no flavor. After I mixed it, it seriously looked like dog food with lettuce in it. We asked the waiter if I could get something else, and he responded "If you dont like it, will you pay for it?" We had no problem paying for our food, we just didn't want it to be disgusting!!! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. read more

We went to the new restaurant in the Edison Mall with a group of 8 people. The service was very unattentive and not very friendly and the prices were high for a Mexican restaurant. We were probably one of three other tables, so not too busy. First there was a drink special two for one, but we were not allowed to share the drinks with someone else. Waitress never refilled our water until we finally grabbed hold of someone else. No chips and salsa refill either. One lady ordered a two for one margerita and never got it. One lady had tacos and everything on the plate was stone cold and she had to ask them to reheat it - which the waitress reluctantly did with a sour face . It took about 15 minutes for them to bring it back. Everyone's beans and rice were cold to lukewarm. To top it all, the lady got charged for the margerita she never received, and everyone automatically had a 20% tip added on the bill in small print of course! With the option to add an additional 10% tip that would make it 30% tip! All this for horrible service, mediocre and overpriced food and the trickery of forcing you to tip above and beyond. Will never go back and will never recommend. read more

Complete bullshit. 13 dollars after tax and "gratuity" for dry, lousy sorry-ass nachos. I used to eat here quite a bit because my friends like it, but now if I want mexican food, I'll make it myself, go to Taco Bell, or drive to Ozark and eat at El Palacio. No lie. I would rather drive half an hour to get to Ozark and eat mexican than go to this place. read more
