Excellent meal, with upgraded hamburger steak, and fried okra. Definitely worth it if your in the area and or on your way to the beach.

Drove by this tiny town on the way home from the beach and made a stop for lunch. Turned out most restaurants in the area were closed on that Saturday, so we ended up here even though we were concerned it would take too long to get our food and the food would be too messy to eat in the car. Boy, was I wrong! The staff here was super friendly and the turnaround was very efficient. The best part was the food was fantastic! Everything was fresh and cooked well. The prices were reasonable and the portions were big! Not too messy to eat....tho probably can't drive and eat at the same time....which is okay! We took the time to enjoy the food!! The worst thing I ever had at Preston's was wonderful. When we want a steak, we make the hour drive over there; because, we know what we will get. We drive right past Big Mmmm, something or another; because, we prefer quality food and exceptional service over high price and hype. read more

The steak tips were great. Very moist and tasty. Also the fried green beans were the best. Our Waitress was very busy but managed to keep checking on us. Her name is Mattie Claire. Excellent service. The service was great. Very nice lady. The price was ok but the portions are small except for the chicken tenders. The steak sandwich was marinated in so much Worcester sauce that it was all you could taste. The Texas toast was inedible as it had plenty of butter or oil but was soft and not crispy. The chicken tenders were good and the fries were homemade. The grilled asparagus was boiled to the point of being soggy and didn't have a grilled char. The salad was similar to what you might get at Golden Corral with lettuce, store bought shredded cheese, and tomatoes. The fried green beans were good. After a 9:30 AM departure from the beach, we knew we would be somewhere in the south/central Alabama area for lunch. So when hunger hit, out comes the trusty Yelp app. We found ourselves in the town of Luverne and looking for a good bite, when that 5-star rating from Preston's could not be ignored. So we decided to stop in and test it out. Having grown up and around smaller towns for a big part of my life, the friendly smiles and welcoming attitude is something that is fairly standard in places like this. Preston's was no different. Great service throughout. And offering me a sweet tea to go at the end is always a nice cherry on top of an already friendly experience. Apparently, they are only open for lunch on Wednesdays. Lucky for us, that was when we were heading through. Their hours are a little sporadic, but I'm glad we were able to fall in one of those times slots. After reading some of the reviews and trusting my hunger instincts, the steak sandwich was what I decided on. No frills about this thing... but it was REALLY good. I don't know how many people have gotten a steak sandwich and everything falls apart because you are trying to chew through a tough piece of meat. That was not the case at all with this one. Extremely tender, well cooked, and well flavored strips of ribeye were covered with onions, cheese and blanketed by perfectly toasted pieces of sourdough bread. Nothing fancy, just good. The steak fries were pretty standard. Nothing over the top. But a great accompaniment to a fantastic sandwich. With beach trips happening annually and sometimes more, this is a great place to keep on our radar. read more

We saw the five star review and thought we had to stop to see what all the excitement was about. At 11:30 we were the only customers. We were greeted promptly and seated! Nice variety on the menu. Our gang stuck to barbecue sandwiches and fried chicken sandwich each came with a side. The wait for our food was confusing but it came hot and was tasty. The chicken was a winner over the barbecue. We enjoyed a late dinner at Prestons this evening. As soon as my date and I entered, we were greeted by multiple friendly staff members and were seated quickly. Despite the restaurant being quite full, our server brought our drinks and appetizer of fried crab claws (yum!) very promptly. Our salads and entrees also arrived in a very timely fashion. In addition to providing a pleasant dining experience, our server waved down our car as we were leaving in order to return my boyfriend's hat, which he had forgotten as we left the store. Just ate at Preston's and it was excellent! Located on the main road through town with convenient side street parking. We started with the sampler which included fried pickles, cheese curds and green beans.... Delicious.... ! The table had a sample of the menu... Chicken tenders, club sandwich, mahi mahi, grilled shrimp, salad, baked sweet potatoes... All very good but the best thing was the kaley tater-beef tips, onion, bacon, worcheshire, mushroom, butter on a baked potato!! Oh so good! We stopped in during the middle of the afternoon and were personally waited on by the owners who also chatted about their future plans for a new building. Unusual find...great steak house in a small sleepy town in south Alabama. Took wife to Preston's for Valentine. Thank goodness they accept reservations. Arrived on time, huge crown waiting to be seated, but when I made my way to receptionist we were seated immediately. Reputation for rib-eye steaks was not overstated. Hope you are hungry because the steaks were huge and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend their fried green beans. Fresh green beans dipped in batter and fried like French fries. Great food, fast and friendly service. Anyone coming home from the beach prays that their children will sleep through the no man's land between San Destin and Montgomery. The toddler started complaining that she was hungry as we were passing through Opp. She wanted Chik fil a, but alas, the closest one according to my calculations, was an hour and a half away in Montgomery. We couldn't stomach Hardees again, we'd had to eat it for lunch and dinner on our trip in, so I started searching and found this little gem. Two of us had the barbecue special, baked beans, fried okra, slaw, and peach cobbler. Two had cheeseburgers with fries and one had a kids cheeseburger. The restaurant is larger than it appears from the outside, and the seats are roomy for wrangling your toddler/baby. Everyone enjoyed their food. My family arrived in Luvern, Ala for a reunion. After the locals recommended Preston's Steak & Grill we thought we would give it a try. It was the best decision we made other than eating breakfast at my Aunts house. Lol. We ordered the large rib eye, jumbo shrimp, and the Kaley Tater. The meals were outstanding and the service was excellent. You could use a butter knife to cut the steak. We thought we would need a "doggy bag" to take to the hotel but refused to stop eating. We highly recommend this spot during your visit or travels. read more
