I've been stopping here for years and it hasn't changed much. Which is a good thing. Delicious, sloppy burgers, barbecue, and more. I got the double bacon cheeseburger and it was way too much for me to eat. Ordered a side of fried okra and fried corn nuggets, both came out very hot and fresh. It is cooked to order but didn't take long to receive our food. Located just off I 65. They have an outdoor picnic area Also. Definitely recommend stopping here over the fast food joints. read more

I stopped for gas on my drive back to the Midwest from Highway 30A in Florida. This BBQ shack was next to the gas station and had an "open" sign lit at 9:30 AM. I could't resist and ordered a BBQ pork sandwich. Being from Kansas City, I'm a bit of a BBQ snob -- this sandwich was delicious! Very reasonably priced (about $8) with a generous portion of chopped pork (not pulled). The meat was perfectly smoked and the texture was amazing. Great subtle flavors to the sauce too. Take away BBQ in the middle of nowhere right off the highway. The pulled pork sandwich and hamburger was really good. Chicken strips were average. Fries weren't great. WOW, who knew that BBQ at the gas station was so good! Okay, it isn't really "at" the gas station, but next door. I had been on the road for hours and needed some food and some gas, so no brainer and there wasn't anything else in the surrounding 50 mile radius :-) I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it came with fries...This is a one and one operated business, one runs the front and one runs the back, so be patient. It took about 15 minutes for my order to be up and I ate it in the car, it was too cold outside to utilize their lovely patio area, but it was good. Now could I be somewhat impartial due to my hunger, yes, but it was still better than any fast food joint! food is bad. service is horrible. bbq tasted like it had been steamed (not smoked), was doused in a sticky sweet sauce (wasn't asked if I wanted this- definitely not low carb if you're looking for that) and it was kind of chewy/tough. slaw looked like it came out of a plastic tub from the grocery store and they didn't even bother to salt the fried okra- it was bland and kind of raw on the inside. the person who took our order was clearly upset we had interrupted her cigarette break and, to add insult to injury- the suggested tip amounts presented when we ORDERED AT THE COUNTER- started at 20% and went up to 40%. We frequent FL beaches for vacation and saw this small shack like BBQ joint with a lot of activity as we exited the ramp and just had to stop. We weren't so much hungry as we wanted to sample a few things. It's not posted on the menu but you can get the chopped meat in a cup and purchase ribs individually (they referred to them as rib sticks) if you don't want a full meal. I ordered a cup of chopped pork, a coleslaw and 3 rib sticks. The pork was smokey, soft and at some points tender. The add a bit of BBQ sauce on top.. that was pretty tasty too that I had to ask for a little bit more to add to the cup. The coleslaw was a bit wetter than I would like for it to be, but it did have good flavor. They included a bun with the food too so you could make a small chopped pork bun sandwich if you like. The ribsticks were good! Plenty of meat, tender with a bit of fat. I was full with my custom made sampler, but I considered buying more ribs to take home. As we go to FL for vacas, this will be one of your stops along the way. It is defiantly worth trying. We were not disappointed. It is a cash only spot. So I am from this itty bitty town called Georgiana in the lower part of Alabama and this is where this jewel lies. This is a small little place off of exit 114 on Interstate 65. They have amazing food. My favorite is the grilled pork chops and corn nuggets, but I have tried many things there. My recommendations would be the grilled pork chops of course, corn nuggets, fried chicken livers, bbq baked potato, fired chicken salad, fried okra and the sweet tea. The hamburgers are quite delicious as well. I'm so sure you can't go wrong with anything you order when stopping by Kendall's. This is a small little place in the corner lot of the gas station. There is no indoor seating. They have a window you walk up to and order and you can wait in the car or wait in the patio area beside the building. This area is also nice for dinning when stopping through for a rest after riding in the car all day and when its a nice day out to catch a breeze. The food is very well priced for the quantity you receive. I usually call my order in ahead to avoid the wait time. It usually takes a little while because everything is made to order. Only bumper is they do not accept cards. Its cash only. There is an ATM inside the gas station. read more

If there were people lining up to get food here, it's definitely a sign of good BBQ... The only 2 things put me off was that it was cash only; my bank doesn't have any branches in Alabama so I'd either have to pay a fee at ATMs or make it a point to remember to ask for cash back for purchases, so I avoid paying cash whenever possible... Also the lady that works the front counter threw her cigarette butt on the floor no more than 10ft from me; I'm no environmentalist, but I hate seeing people litter. read more

Not the worst but not amazing. I think the big thing is their sauce needs work. A little something extra in the sauce would go a long way, heat, sweet, spices, bacon, bourbon, anything really would help it. It really needs just something more than what they are doing now which tastes a bit like ketchup that is the color of BBQ sauce. The meat was juicy and not dry at all which was nice and the tots were hot and crispy I ate a lot more of them than I had planned. Service was efficient and polite. All in all I wouldn't go out of my way but I would give them a second chance if I was there and hungry. Hopefully they will have jazzed up the sauce by then. read more
